Setting Up Domain Forwarding?

Dec 26, 2005

I've taken a reseller account from ResellerZOOM which came with WHM/cPanel. I've my own private nameservers(meaning I got my own IP). I've a domain that I want to be forwarded to my wordpress.com blog, just like domain registrars offer domain forwarding but the registrar I registered my domain with doesn't give domain forwarding. so I was thinking that maybe I can point the domain to my nameservers & then have it forwarded to my wordpress.com blog. The thing is that I haven't used WHM before & I don't know how to do it, create some DNS zone maybe!!

The only way I know is to create an account for that domain, allot it some diskspace & then redirect via .htaccess file, which would be overkill IMHO. I know it can be done without creating an account, some other way.

Domain Forwarding Vs. Domain Parking

May 18, 2009

I am moving content from old.domain to new.domain

However I am at the same time retaining the old.domain to keep the older links working

I want that the old.domain/link redirect to new.domain/link

Please advice what would be best to do for the old.domain -

1) Domain forwarding
2) Domain parking

or Both the above

(The other thing is that I would like to do 301 redirect - would this happen automatically by activating the above options - or something else has to be done)

CONFIX Domain Forwarding

Sep 4, 2008

I registered the following domain: spirit-of-georgia.net and created a re-direct (forwarding) through our CONFIX panel to this URL: http://www.english-test.net/forum/ftopic27561.html

Then I realized that this URL shouldn't contain the hash (?) and that the correct URL should be http://www.english-test.net/forum/ftopic27561.html

So I removed that forwarding to that address. However, the forwarding is still in place. I've used this script: ........

Domain Cloaking, Masking, Forwarding

Sep 18, 2005

just a quick question, i have two domains www.abc.com and www.abc.co.uk.

With web forwarding typinng www.abc.co.uk will get me to
www.abc.com and from there i have browse the www.abc.com site.

However I want www.abc.co.uk to be the duplicate of www.abc.com. So i can browse a www.abc.co.uk.

Therefore typing www.abc.co.uk will stay on there and i can browse (www.abc.co.uk/aboutus.htm, www.abc.co.uk/contact.htm....etc).

Do i just need to change the namserver tags or do i change the DNS.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Domain Forwarding With HTAccess

Jun 14, 2014

I have re-built a website on a new domain. Now I want to redirect http://www.olddomain.com/anything or http://olddomain.anything to www.newdomain. Because the file structure is totally different, I want all redirections to go to the Home Page of newdomain.

Initially, I used Standard forwarding in the Plesk CP but that attempts to keep the filename the same. So www.olddomain.com/wibble tries to go to www.newdomain.com/wibble. But wibble dies not exist on the new domain.

Should I use htaccess with physical hosting instead on olddomain.com? Is the following correct?:

Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.newdomain.com [R=301,L]

Will that basically cover any request? Anything that people have saved or which appears in Google searches, no matter whether http:// or http://www.

And for neatness on the new domain, I would like to add www to any request like http://newdomain.com/whatever to go to http://www.newdomain.com/whatever which I think means that Google analytics will report more accurately.

So would my htaccess file on newdomain.com be like this?:

Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^newdomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Search Engines Continue To Pickup Domain Used For Forwarding

Jan 10, 2008

We have a bunch of domains we use to forward into various locations on our site, so for instance: [url] would forward to [url].

I am currently running a Windows 2k3 Server with IIS6. The way I achieve these forwards is to set up another site, put the forwarding domain in the host header, then have it forward out to my desired directory. However, now Google has been picking up my forwarding domains with their robots, and getting addresses like [url],
which does not exist, just [url]does, so people are getting returned a lot of 404 errors.

How can I stop this? Am I setting up the domain forwarding wrong?

If I have already added a subdomain, I cannot change the hosting type of the master domain. Also it is not possible to add a second domain to the subscription anymore.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Standard Domain Forwarding Does Not Forward Https Connections

Apr 29, 2015

URL....We are running Plesk 12 on a Linux VPS where we have multiple domains running.Multiple of these domains should redirect from www. domain name. ext to https://ext.domainname.com.This is configured with the Domain forwarding in Plesk, with hosting type Forwarding. But as described in the 2 links provided above, whenever you go to https://www.domain.ext, it does not redirect, and actually shows a Security error, since the domain doesn't have the SSL-certificate installed (because it should redirect to the https://ext.domainname.com).

Clearly we don't want visitors on the website to receive the (incorrect) Security error, and we want all traffic to http(s)://www.domain.ext to be redirected to the appropriate subdomains. allows us to redirect both the https/http connections to the domains, without forcing us to have the domains have a Website hosting add redirect them manually with (for example) .htaccess.

Setting Up Domain With Lighthttpd

Jun 9, 2009

its been long time since I have set one and its been really bugging with the feather theme interface, which I haven't used before

now, here is the pt.

I have 3 ips , I want the main ip to be unique
i.e assuming .2, .3 and .4 are the the ips we have ben provided with, where .2 is the main ip of the server (lxadmin)

now, in the dns template, I have 6 options where ip has to be assigned, as -
base, cp, mail, ns, ns1, ns2

I have set the base,cp, mail, ips to .3

I don't have a clue on what to set for the ns, ns1, ns2

I want .3 to be shown as the pinged ip when site is pinged.

We have set .3 and .4 as the nameserver ips in the registrar, so do I need to provide .3 as the ns1 ip and .4 as the ns2 ips or both the ips have to be .3
and what should be the ns ip?

DNS And Domain- Setting Up DNS With DirectAdmin

Jul 23, 2009

I've got DirectAdmin installed, and my domain name (misacampo.org) hosted with XeoDomains.com.

I'm wondering how I set up my DNS so that whenever I point more domains to my VPS their DNS will be set to ns1.misacampo.com and ns2.misacampo.com.

Would it be as simple as pointing my domain to my VPS IP, then setting up this in DirectAdmin?:

Add Zone
Domain Name:
IP Address:
Name Server 1:
Name Server 2:

Would I enter:
Add Zone
Domain Name: misacampo.org
IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Name Server 1: ns1.misacampo.org
Name Server 2: ns1.misacampo.org

Then point my domain to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, and set it up my domain at XeoDomains.com like so:

Add New Child Name Server
Host Name: ns1.misacampo.org
Ip Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

and

Add New Child Name Server
Host Name: ns2..misacampo.org
Ip Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Would this work? I'm looking to do a quick shift from my old CPS (LXAdmin) to my new VPS (DirectAdmin) with at little downtime as possible. Do I need to set up any other records for the domain for my email accounts to work, or would DirectAdmin take care of all this?

The server is in a .local domain environment. Does anyone have any info on how I should setup DNS for the web server if the domain itself is not getting any DNS info from the outside?

Is it just a matter of adding new A and NS records or do I need to be in a FQDN domain for it to work?

I thought all I had to do was add the Hawk Host name servers to my Name account but that doesn't seem to be helping. I don't have any webpages up yet but I do have some files uploaded to be used as a redirect for a game server. The redirect isn't loading properly most of the time and when I type my domain name into a browser my directory won't show up either, just the parking page. I ordered both of these last week.

Domain Name Server (DNS) Redirection / Setting Up Zone(s)

Oct 24, 2007

I have a quick question about some DNS zones I'm trying to set up for a customer. I figured I would try asking the community before bugging our top-level admins (they have enough to do already, and I'd rather learn this myself).

We have a customer for whom we are managing their DNS. The site is actually hosted elsewhere, but the DNS originates on our server.

They have another site that is hosted with us, and they would like to set up a subdomain redirect from the remotely-hosted site to the site hosted on our hardware. So, the situation looks something like this:

example.com : hosted elsewhere (primary IP not ours), DNS with us
FooSite.example.com : redirect this to www.FooSite.com

I could edit httpd.conf, but it would be easiest (for firewall reasons at the moment) if I could enter in the proper zones via WHM zone editor. I'll be able to see the results either way. I tried setting up the 'A' and 'CNAME' records, and I got as far as directing the 'A' records for the subdomain to the local IP, but I'm not sure how to finish it off (assuming I'm going down the right path). My own knowledge level in this regard is somewhere between novice and intermediate (which is why I have partners and admins ).

Setting Up Domain To Point And Mask To The Hosting Service

Apr 10, 2008

I have a domain name from godaddy and recently got a host plan in hostgator.

As this is the first time I use hosting, it is very confusing how to set it up properly.
So far what I figured out and was able to set is the DNS in godaddy and the add-on domain in hostgator.

So now I was able to point 'MyDomain' to direct to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/' (names just for example).

The problem is that masking is not turned on and who ever clicks 'MyDomain' will get to the right location, but the address will change to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/'.

How to do the set up so the URL will not change?

Apache :: Setting Up A Local Domain With Working Override

Feb 25, 2014

I'm trying to accomplish two goals: First, get "Pretty Links" to work on my local Wordpress instance; second, to set up a local domain for the site.I have a fresh install of Apache 2.4.6 running, and I'll I've done is enable the rewrite and vhost_alias mods. Nevertheless, here's my apache2.conf: URL....

I need to have AllowOverride set to All. This, I gather, allows .htaccess files within the subsequent directories to alter the apache config. To try one thing at a time, I'm accessing the site from localhost/var/www/dhae/Wordpress (foregoing the domain). I tried altering the 000-default.conf to oblige this: [URL] .... -- all I added was the <Directory> section. This didn't work, and neither did changing the AllowOverride to All in the apache2.conf.

I wondered if perhaps I needed something more specific to the directory, so I tried using my second goal to accomplish this. I wrote the dhae.conf: URL....

I've also added the following line to my HOSTS file:127.0.0.1 dhae.dev

This hasn't worked either. I've tried virtual host config stuff as much as I could find, and I'm just not having any luck. What I have even came from this site (URL....).

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Setting Up Separate Mail Accounts For Domain Alias?

May 6, 2014

I've got a situation in which I need to have a set of mail accounts that share a domain name with a domain that's already in use as a domain alias and because the domain is already in use, I'm unable to create a new account using that domain. I tried explicitly adding "www" to the domain alias so I could keep the www.domain.com address as an alias and reserve the "domain.com" name for use as a separate account, but Plesk won't allow for that.

How to address this? The idea I'm currently considering is to delete the domain alias and then create the new account and manually set the DOCUMENT ROOT of the new account to refer to the other domain's document root. I'm sure this could create some difficulty in Plesk so I'm looking for input before trying it. I'm actually not even sure exactly where I would be able to redefine the document root with Plesk allowing the change and not overwriting it later.

If all else fails, I can setup a new account on a different and unrelated Plesk server, but I'd prefer not to do that.
