Pointing Domain Name Towards Another Webhosting Service
I want to point on of my domain name towards another webhosting service. My registrar is different from the webhosting service. I have done it many times, it works perfect except for one. Could the old webhosting service be preventing the domain name from pointing to another one?

What To Do About Another Domain Pointing Toward Your IP
We recently moved one server to a colo provider and were issued new IP's. One IP is causing us trouble. We have been getting blocked from sending email to AOL and other free email companies. When we contacted AOL we were told that they had received complaints about our IP and it was blocked. Upon doing a RBL check and IP check, it seems that the former owner of our IP is still pointing his domain via eNom to our IP and had at one time sent spam. If you reverse DNS our IP's. bad domain -> our IP our domain -> our IP We contacted the eNom legal department (bad domain's registrar) about the problem. They responded that they could not do anything about it, only the registrant could. The spammy domain registrant obviously does not respond to our contacts. What is the best course of action?

(Background) Looking for some advise on domain pointing currently I have a UK server hosting my billing system which is replicated each evening over to my US server I want to sub domain my primary domain to uk.yourdomain.com & us.yourdomain.com As redundancy I would also like uk.yourdomain.com to point to the US server should the UK one fail - giving me redundancy, I figure in the next few months I can do this on our AU - creating au.yourdomain.com and replicating our billing system to that datacenter too. (question) - can this been setup and configured from server level, ie on my primary server WHM dns zones OR should this be created on a registrar level?

Domain Name Server DNS Pointing
Hello all, hope someone can help. I have a domain incl. hosting (fanferwalde.com) and three extra domain names, fanferwalde.nl , fanfalingasate.com , fanfalingasate.nl (all three without hosting) who I want to point to fanferwalde.com. Before I bought the extra domains I asked the provider if I could point the extra domains to the “head” domain (fanferwalde.com). Yes, that was possible they said so I bought the extra domains. I asked the provider to help with the configuration to point them to the head domain but they refused, I must do it by myself…………………….. There is no possibility they do it when I pay extra for it so I feel pressed to take also a hosting for the extra domains; then I can make a redirect on each index page. All domain names have an own DNS control panel. I have full access to this. The first picture is the DNS from the head domain. The second picture is the DNS from one of the extra domains I want to point to the head domain. What must I put where so the website from fanferwalde.com will appear when I write fanferwalde.nl in the browser? THANKS in advance!!! (Sorry for my bad English, I’m Dutch)

Someone Else's Domain Name Is Pointing To Mine
I'm designing a site, www.streetsmartscooters.com, to (obviously) sell scooters. Just yesterday I saw on my Google Analytics that people were getting to my site by searching for X-treme X-10, a particular brand and model of scooter. I typed the keywords into Google to see what my rankings were, and I was on the fourth page. But the green URL in the search listing showed up as mamafocka.com. When you go to mamafocka.com, it's all the same information as my website, and changes I make through my FTP login update immediately. If you go to streetsmartscooters.com, you can click on the "Electric Scooters" link on the left nav and it will keep you on mamafocka, but give you the exact same page as on streetsmartscooters (I set that particular link to be relative in the includes file). My site is hosted on a Windows 2003 virtual server from GoDaddy. SelfSeo.com says that mamafocka.com and streetsmartscooters.com both have the same IP - 208.109.99.16. I just signed up for a dedicated IP address tonight from GoDaddy, but I'm not sure how long it takes to propagate. Will getting a dedicated IP fix this problem, or have I wasted 6 bux? Is there any way to block that domain name from pointing to my site? It doesn't look to my novice eyes like this is a redirect. Also, I installed FreeFind on the site earlier this week, I believe. Could somebody have messed with something through that?

Pointing Domain From Yahoo To Go Daddy Servers
I have a customer who registered his domain name with yahoo he now wants to point that domain to a hosting account that I have started for him at GoDaddy. Should be simple but it has been anything but. He has emailed Yahoo several times with no response, he has called their tech-line only to be told he needs to email them instead. We finally figured out through GoDaddy that Yahoo registers through Melbourne IT. He has tryed calling Melbourne they are in turn asking for a 12 digit registration number that my customer does not have. Melbourne told him he needs to get this from Yahoo, Yahoo says they do not give registration numbers out. This leaves my customer with only 2 options, either register a brand-new domain through GoDaddy or go with Yahoo for hosting. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you ever finally get through and get things transfered?

Building A Scalable Webhosting Service Platform
We have a small web+email hosting and data center business in Africa. We've been providing hosting services to our clients using Plesk on Dell-based servers (connected over a Fiberchannel interface to a SAN). Our data center is connected via an STM-4 and multiple STM-1s to 2 different upstream providers. The problem we're having is (as a result of our own lack of knowledge) that our solution is just not scalable in the current configuration. We essentially buy a Dell server, install Plesk and keep provisioning customer domains (web and mail hosting) on it till capacity runs out (we max out on average at 400 domains per server) and then buy the next Dell machine and repeat. What we're looking for is advice on building a more scalable and automated solution. Essentially we're looking for a software and hardware solution (blade solution with web and mail software that is able to harness the power / redundancy of multiple blade servers) that enables us to provision thousands of customers at one go (and simply add more blades servers as needed).

Domain Name Server (DNS) Service For Clients
So my the other day one of my clients rented a Windows 2003 server. Has no idea on how to run DNS server on it and demanded us to do something about it. Since he had no management plan, we let him know that if he got himself a management plan we could help him out - but looks as though he was on a tight budget and couldn't opt in for it. Same thing happened last week and again one yesterday! To help these customers out I was wondering if I could start a DNS service. Each client would get access to it for free regardless of their operating system or management plan. They could point their domains to the nameservers and use the DNS service to point the domain's A records to their servers. From the start, I have been using EditDNS and still using it. But coming to think of it, its getting more unstable day by day even though they have 5 servers spread across the globe. I am planning on to move to EveryDNS. With this move, I'd like to use their services for my clients too. Rather than running my own DNS servers - I feel this could work out more efficient and reliable. So what I am planning on doing here is more like creating private namesevers to mask EveryDNS's nameservers. Then have a custom script site built to interact with EveryDNS's APIs. Sounds like a good idea? Then my customer uses the script's interface to create/delete/edit records, etc. Anyway I need some advice, suggestion or help in this matter. Has anyone tried this stunt out before? If so, how successful were they/you? How are your customer's reaction towards this (satisfied or not?). Does it stay efficient? (both in terms of money, time and energy spent). Also, if anyone could suggest me any programmer who could do this for me (someone well versed with DNS/EveryDNS on PHP/MySQL) it would be nice. Edit: I guess ServerBeach/Peer 1 already has implement this. If anyone really knows whats going on there - please share.

We're an UltraDNS customer - Ross refers to them as the ferrari of DNS hosting, which I agree. We've been with them a few years now and I'll admit that we pay a very pretty penny for them to manage our DNS for a few of our larger sites. On the flip side, we've never once had a DNS issue and their support, when we've needed to engage them, has been outstanding. Are most folks just using their control panel's DNS interface, or is there are larger contigent who are outsourcing their DNS management?

Registrar's Domain Name Server Service For My VPS?
I'm wondering is it possible to use RegisterFly's DNS server for my VPS. I only have 1 website on the VPS, but I want to increase the reliability of my site overall and thought if it were possible to give the DNS operations to my Registrar, who probabily really does have seperate DNS servers, this would be a good move. Since it would allow me to disable BIND (freeing up resources/memory), and put the DNS operations to quite possibly a more reliable set of servers (since my 2 DNS servers are actually just my 1 VPS) What are the Pros/Cons of this type of arrangement? So I need to know, can it technically be done, and what zones entries I need to create.

Setting Up Domain To Point And Mask To The Hosting Service
I have a domain name from godaddy and recently got a host plan in hostgator. As this is the first time I use hosting, it is very confusing how to set it up properly. So far what I figured out and was able to set is the DNS in godaddy and the add-on domain in hostgator. So now I was able to point 'MyDomain' to direct to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/' (names just for example). The problem is that masking is not turned on and who ever clicks 'MyDomain' will get to the right location, but the address will change to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/'. How to do the set up so the URL will not change?

Subdomains Pointing To Different Servers
I have a high-traffic domain & I want to create subdomains of this domain and point these subdomains to different servers. Each subdomain will have different content. For eg. music.domain.com will have music relatd content, videos.domain.com will have videos etc. The purpose of this is to spread the traffic and hence reduce load on each server. Website Hosting ... Pointing To Server
I dont know where else to post this, but I am having a weird problem that I do not understand. I have this domain, that I am pointing to a VPS hosting service. I currently have 2 domains pointing here. my main domain, works fine. I go to the domain, no issues (www.whiteazn.com) but the 2nd domain, is where i am having problems (firstbaptisthenderson.org) It is pointed to the same server. but the problem is, it seems like the server change, never "propogated" throughout the internet. So, while MOST of the time, it hits the server as I expect, there are times where it goes to the Generic Network Solutions Page Not Found Error (you know, when you just buy a domain, go to that domain and see some generic page there?). and refreshing, clearing cache, etc, still shows for like 1 minute, then after a bit of refreshing, will see the normal page that should be there. this happens ever so often. I dont go to it everyday, but i think it does it periodically. I dont know what the issue is? Both my domains are pointed to: DNS1547.DIZINC.COM DNS1548.DIZINC.COM The change to the DNS servers was made like 6 months ago, and this issue has always shown up.

I have a server running IIS that I have a primary website hosted on, let's call it...foo.com So foo.com is hosted and setup through IIS, resolving fine. Now, I have created a site on a different server (not on the same network) to run a subdomain called 'local.foo.com'. How do I get IIS to point all traffic for local.foo.com to the IP of the server hosting the subdomain? I tried adding a hostname to the primary domain in IIS through "Properties" > "Web Site" > "Advanced" but I am stilling getting the Invalid Request Bad Host Name error.

Pointing An A-Record To A PLESK Server
I am currently having a few technical difficulties with configuring my PLESK server to accept an A Record from another domain. Perhaps I have been going about this all wrong but I will explain what I am trying to do and how I have currently been trying to get it to work. Hopefully you might have a suggestion for me to try. We currently run an On-Demand web design platform. This CMS can be completely rebranded for our Partners who can then sell this facility to their clients. There is only one installation of the code base but we need to give our partners a their own web address to access the cms. For example: cms.altstudio.com.au cms.pcgraphicart.com.au cms.pcgraphicart.com.au has been set up as a domain alias. The reason this is working is because the primary domain pcgraphicart.com.au is also hosted on this server. So I thought if the partner has their domain delegated elsewhere then I could simply get them to create an A record for their chosen subdomain and point it to our IP address, then I could configure the domain alias again for their particular A record and hey presto. Unfortunately not so easy. Here are two of the examples of what is happening cms.newlight.com.au - their root domain is delegated elsewhere, but they have created an A-record for that subdomain and pointed it to 202.60.87.185. Now it reaches my server as I see a PLESK error page at that address. At this stage I don't really know what to try to get PLESK to register that entry. I have created a domain alias for cms.newlight.com.au on the cms.altstudio.com.au account but it didn't pick things up. Another example is cms.abconsulting.com.au

My subdomain links.example.com still points to old site when example.com points to the new site..... Should I delete that subdomain at the old host? Should I just be patient? How To Hide A Subdirectory Pointing To A Subdomain
On most servers using a vhost you can make a subdomain point to a subdirectory. so www.host.com/stuff would be stuff.host.com That works fine for me. I now want to avoid people being to access the www.host.com/stuff and always have to go via the subdomain. If I create a rewrite rule I'll get an infinite loop as the subdomain and subdirectory will keep on going to each other. What is the proper way of disabling access via the subdirectory?

I am planning to host my personal website which will be a bunch of static pages for the time being with the possibility of moving to PHP/Pearl CMS later. For this, I think that a basic hosting plan of about .5-1GB space and 5-10GB bandwidth would be well enough. Don't Use Namecheap Webhosting
I've just received my second suspension from them, for having 5 visitors on my website, which was abuse of their resources. I had issues with them last month, they claimed I was using too much resources and had to upgrade to Business class. I've paid for two years there as it is. Every time I would get these notices, I'd work with them and it was found that one comment bot was hitting my site repeatedly (one post several times in a row which really shouldn't cause any problems anyway) and would cause things to raise. In their email, their support said: Quote: Your account is unsuspended now. Please check and prevent future overloads. Also we can block ip addresses of your referrals, when all connections is from one ip instead of suspending your account. Should we block 92.48.193.58 and similar? I'm just sick at they way I've been treated there. Whatever you do, don't host with namecheap. I'm truly sorry I did. And if anyone wants to verify that I host with them, it's hauntedlights.com, obviously a really exploitable site. It's about haunted lighthouses.

WebHosting UK - Unbelivable
I have been with web hosting talk for just this month and in the past 8 days I have had down time at least 1 everyday for around 2-3 hours. I just contacted the VPS support to see why I am not even able to start the server using Virtuozzo Control Panel and this is what they said: 'We are facing a network issue at the moment. Our engineers are aware of this problem. Efforts are on to restore service at the earliest. We apologise for the inconvenience.' And then I ask them the simple question, Why was I not informed about all this downtime and errors on the system - This is what he said to me: 'We have already posted this on our forum. You can have a look at http://www.webhosting.uk.com/forums/network-status/4724-network-issue.html' So I say to him: 'So I get expected to look at your forums every time I have downtime or any problems with the network' 'I think this will be the last month of me paying for this server.' As generally i stick to hardware...but anyways i have encountered this problem.. I have installed WAMP on my sever I have opened up Port80 to it(port forwarding) I can enter both internal address (address of server 192.1068.1.108) and external ips (my external address 220.239.199.48) into my browser on another computer in the network and it works but as soon as you try on a computer outside my network on the internet some where it just times out....

I am setting up a web server (2-3 websites, colo) but am wondering if setting up a mail server (IMAP/SMTP/Webmail for 4-5 mailboxes) alongside is a good practice? Thawte SSL And Webhosting
I am currently hosted at by a webhotel that does not offer SSL security. I have purchased a Thawte SSL123 certificate which I need to have installed on my webhost due to security while handling online payments. What is required is the ability to setup subdomains. Some hosted exchange would be good as well, as to running a smallsized business. which webhost I could move? Would it be possible to use Godaddy.com and install the Thawte SSL certificate on their hosting? How about the requirements for setting up a secure webserver by yourself? Prices for the hardware/software etc.?

Webhosting Provider Pointers
For the last few years I have run my own webserver from home for personal uses(I'm on an 'always on' dsl cable provider in the UK and using dyndns to get around being on dhcp). I have always resisted hosted services in the past as however, after a recent fatal hard drive crash am considering moving to hosted providors instead. As its for personal use (photo album, personal website etc) I dont want to spend too much (considering £3-£5 a month), my requirements would be: 1. needs php 2. mysql 3. ssh 4. ftp 5. space - will be storing photos etc, so initially maybe 500mb Imagine my surprise when i started seeing many 'unlimited' data transfer offers. I was impressed looking at JustHosts, but after digging around found they oversell, (don't they all) but have created their own review sites and list themselves at the top! For personal usage would these 'unlimited' data transfers offers still be a good one? I just need something that will stay up, with reasonable access time for visitors. I cant find any details on backups in general - is it a done thing where data backup of the web site / data is your own responsibility?

Webhosting Solely For Hotlinking
I am a graphic designer/photographer who creates designs for music artists, producers etc. on Myspace (I know, I know). This obviously involves lots of hotlinking, and that is why I am here. I provide customers with hosting for their layouts so that they don't have to go out and search for one. I am currently hosting the images on a friends private server, but it's fairly slow and I want something more reliable. One layout usually has around 20 different images (background, headers, banners, etc) and I try to make sure it comes out to a little under 1MB, so I don't need to worry that much about disk space. I'd say bandwidth might be the only issue if anything. I enjoy the work but it's mostly a side business and doesn't create much revenue, so I'm trying to go for around or under $10 a month. That said, I also want to make sure things are fast enough for the visitors and am willing to up the budget if required. I was going to go with 1and1 or Hostgator but heard alot about overselling.
