I set up a new account for a client using my reseller. He went to change the password and he is getting this error
There was an error manipulating the password file. This generally means you entered your old password incorrectly.
Changing password for user xxxxx.

(current) UNIX password:
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
The thing is, he is putting the password in correct. I made sure of that
I am able to change it in whm and i am able to log in to the account, i just cant change the password from cpanel

Permission denied: /home/airtrade/etc/airtrade.com.tw/passwd passwd this is the error message obtained upon trying to create email accounts in cpanel.
the present permissions of the passwd file is 644 and ownership is username nobody i tried changing it to username.mail but still the same error

The domain is very new, and only known to me. it has http authetnication setup so you'd have to know the username and password to login to access the site.

"Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client"
I upgraded from MySQL 4 to 5 and everything was fine for about a week. On Monday, I get the error above. From what I've read, this is the oldpassword/new password hash error that I can fix in about 2 minutes on my server. However, this is on a Parcom server, and Parcom has been sloooowww to react.
Can anyone think of another reason why this would be coming up? It's running fine on 3 other PCs that I run as a backup. I've dropped the database twice and rebuilt it twice, still with the same error. Ditto for the user/pass.

installed on CentOS 6 and Plesk Version 12.0.18.
I initially had trouble where everytime i tried to load webmail.domain.tld i would have a DNS error, I've resolved this by correcting the DNS settings on my domain and now i can login to the webmail and recieve emails. Now, whether i use Horde or Roundcube i get this authentication error for my SMTP. I'm very new to this stuff and i'm not sure where my log files are or what the issue could be or even how to fix it.

I'm currently experiencing a lot of problems, using Horde. Users are not able to log-in due to this error:

I've already tried re-installing Horde, but without success.
There's an article in your KB, but `/var/lib/php/session` does not exist and `/var/lib/php5/sessions` has the required perms.
I've also tried to set session.save_path to `/var/lib/php5/sessions` in `/etc/psa-webmail/horde/horde/php.ini` and after a restart, sessions are written into that directory. But the problem still exists.

We have more than 10 domains on the same webspace, sharing the same document root. When we try to add a new domain on the same web space (sharing the same document root) Plesk takes a long time to create it (about 10 minutes). While domain creation, all the other domains sharing the same document root and web space get an authentication error. When Plesk finishes, all domains work again.

i been wonder today when i try to login my account @box by SSH 21
the password is changed i think!
and when i see the logs files there is no stranger ip!
and there is no email about changeing password for my mail!
i tried to log in by another account in my server and trying to su root permission by my password
but passwd incorect!
and i change the Mysql root passwd and same thing
my support they sleep before 3 days so i should to figure my problem alone...

I have been googling this for a while but am not getting anywhere. Curiosity has gotten the best of me, what are the passwd- and shadow- files used for? The date and time stamps for both the passwd- and passwd files are exactly the same, as are the shadow- and shadow files.
Are they automatically-created backups of the passwd and shadow files?

We have CentOS and WHM 11 on the server. Also we have PHP 4.4.4 and open base dir enabled on the server . We have a shared server with many website configured on it.

It there any good way to stop using from reading /etc/passwd?
I have suPHP enabled and open_basedir enabled by WHM too. But it seems susphp ignores open_basedir restrictions?

Scripts are running with user's UID, and that is fine, but it can still read /etc/passwd file for example.
How to fix that? Is it really open_basedir value is ignored by susphp? It works fine if I remove suphp and run scripts with nobody uid.

We've had a customer do something strange to their server. They were playing with /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow or similar (not quite sure of the details) but the upshot is booting the server into single user and trying to reset the password via passwd gives

Replaced /etc/passwd* and /etc/shadow* with a copy from another server
Turned off SeLinux
/etc/pam.d/passwd is fine

I'm running a server where I have my SSH key set up with the root user so I can log in without the password.
I also have an account called "jmaskell" that I use for everything, and I'm trying to add my SSH key to this. I've done exactly what I did for the root user and have my key in the .ssh/authorized_keys2 file. Unfortunately I'm still prompted for my password everytime I log in.
Is it possible to have the same SSH key stored for two different users?
The server is running CentOS 4 with OpenSSH 3.9.

We've been having some trouble logging into our Intranet here at work. Essentially it is set up to use Integrated Windows authentication but for some reason that was disabled last week and so no-one could log in. That was easy enough to fix and everything seemed to be back to normal.
However, I installed ModX CMS into a subfolder but when it comes to logging in to the admin backend I am repeatedly asked for my Windows ID and ultimately told I am not authorised to view the page. I can see the login page and I can enter the ModX admin details but it won't let me further than that.
The strange thing is a colleague with the same (admin) rights can log in no problem!

I am using WinXP Pro and IIS 5.1. When I try to access an asp file using IE 7 using a URL like [url], it always brings up the login dialog, and nothing I enter in it works. So, automatic authentication is failing. I verified that the Directory Security settings are correct.

I have a machine at home running the UniformServer wamp package on Win2K3 Standard server and I'm hosting a simple family picture gallery using Gallery 2.3. I put the gallery in a subdirectory of root so I could have a public homepage and a gallery that is password protected. I did this using .htaccess and .htpasswd.
My issue is when I browse to mydomain.com and click the link to the gallery [url], the password box pops up, and when I enter the appropriate credentials, the domain name reverts to the IP and another password box pops up. If I log in a second time, I'm fine. If I cancel that second login, it still lets me in, but prompts me to login that second time for every click going forward until I authenticate.

way to centrally login our FTP clients. We currently run ftp1/2/3/4.[url]and would like to have simply [url]which would authenticate the user and push the user to the relevant server.
This would hopefully work in the same way as a Radius Proxy.
Is this possible on either windows or linux?
