New Domain Name, How To Point It To My Server 2003 System
I have always been using a no-ips service for a domain name. It was really easy with the dynamic update client because I have a dynamic ip.
I have just registered a domain and would like to point that to my server also. My registrar says it is currently parked, there doesn't seem to be an option to unpark it anywhere. I have also changed the nameserver to my no-ip domain name.
Nothing is happening.
I have also googled dns.. If I want to point my domain directly to my server do I need to go and install Active Directory and then dns or can I just install DNS, do I even need to do this??
Seems like a lot of hassle tbh, this is really frustrating me because i'm pretty tech savvy but am completely lost here..

We are trying to implement a reseller model shopping website for our resellers. The customized shopping website for the reseller will be hosted on our website, say: abc.xyz.com We want our resellers to load abc.xyz.com from their own sub domain itself, like: shopping.abc.com I know that this can be done using a URL redirection, but is there any way that shopping.abc.com will load the contents from abc.xyz.com and still keep the URL unchanged in the address bar ? I'm not referring to URL masking using iframes and note that xyz.com and abc.com are on different servers. Does anyone know whether this is technically feasible?

Setting Up Domain To Point And Mask To The Hosting Service
I have a domain name from godaddy and recently got a host plan in hostgator. As this is the first time I use hosting, it is very confusing how to set it up properly. So far what I figured out and was able to set is the DNS in godaddy and the add-on domain in hostgator. So now I was able to point 'MyDomain' to direct to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/' (names just for example). The problem is that masking is not turned on and who ever clicks 'MyDomain' will get to the right location, but the address will change to 'hostgatorDomain/MyFolder/'. How to do the set up so the URL will not change?

Can I Point MX Record For Third-party Domain To Yahoo Small Biz Mail?
My client has a domain registered at GoDaddy and a Yahoo Small Business email package. The only info I can find on Yahoo suggests I need to redelegate the domain's name servers to Yahoo, and I'd rather not do this if I can help it. Is it possible to simply leave the name servers at GoDaddy and point the MX record to Yahoo's servers? I don't see anything on Yahoo saying it won't work, but then I see nothing to suggest it will either!

I've been trying to change one my domain's nameservers for over 48 hours. it started with a faulty domain modification system that gives out an error for each try you do to change the nameservers and continued with a laggy and unhelpfull chat with support personal (probably outsourced to russia) that couldn't do anything about this problem and eventually told me to open a tech ticket that was solved about 12 hours later and only then chaged my nameservers. this cheap hosting has it's price, whitch mostly is your free time.

The domain you are trying to map this IP to, doesn't resolve back to the IP, and so it cannot be set as the default domain for the IP.

Server Point Review
I've been with serverpoint.com for over a year now and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Last year I negotiated an excellent price for a dedicated box with serverpoint via PM. They delivered my server promptly and even upgraded my CPU since they were out of stock on the one I had ordered. The few times I’ve had to call support (due to issues on my end) they’ve been prompt and professional. My only real complaint is I can’t setup automatic bill pay online. They want my to send a photocopy of my CC and a photo ID, which I’m leery of. I suppose this is a boring review, but in and ideal world isn’t that the way it should be? Who wants a lot of drama with a host provider?

Having Subdomain Point To Different Server
I have my myname.com and I'd like to forward home.myname.com to my home server IP. I'm running Linux and Apache on both the server I lease (that has myname.com set up on) and on my home server (hopefully home.myname.com). So far I've tried URL rewriting in .htaccess, which works, but it fowards to my IP in the browser's address bar- Id like to keep the address bar as home.myname.com. I assume I have to modify the DNS zone for myname.com right? I'm using bind on the leased server

whats up fellers, i'm attempting to point my design site name from whm, to my home i.p address by changing the i.p in whm dns zone editor. I'm doing this because its just so much easier to copy an ad, or web site or whatever i do to the server via my home network so the client can see the project pretty much in realtime (some ads are like 800mb) . ALSO i'm trying to set up exchange so my motorola q will have realtime email. IP From Our Server Company Blocked Because They Do Not Point Back To The Original
We have a server with a fine company, BocaCom. They are who the IP addresses are we use ultimately registered to. It seems we are being blacklisted by secureserver (isn't that Godaddy?) because the IP does not register to us for our outgoing email. It registers to BocaCom. Is anyone else having this problem, and how to we get around it? We've contacted BocaCom and are waiting for their reply. I am using a cpanel for my site. While I am not using the nameserver of the cpanel hosting for my site. I am using a 3rd party DNS server to handle the DNS thing. I directly point www/ftp/mail/... A records to my site hosting's IP address. And everything works well. But there is a problem, I don't know how to set up subdomain. I created a subdomain with my site cpanel. And it automatically created a root directory for the subdomain under /public_html. ( .../public_html/subdomain/) But I don't know how to make the subdomain work. How to set the DNS records to directly point my subdomain to its root directory on the hosting? I tried to add a A record for my subdomain. But it only direct the subdomain to /public_html the main domain's root directory. Untill now, the subdomain is still pointed to the same page as the main domain.

I had a linux server (CentOs 5, mysql5, php5, directadmin). I had problems with apache few days ago, that's why i hire sys. admin who tweak the system (install the PAE kernel), and some more configurations, and during last 7-8 days server work w/o any downtime (before this server had 1-2 downtimes per day-> OOM killer.) Now i had only ssh access (emails, directadmin access - give "wrong password" answer). As told my sys.admin It became read only system. Why Is RAID 1, Just Use A Backup System/server
I haven't yet broken into the realms of dedicateds, although I have a decent VPS and am anticipating the need to get a dedi in the future. Hence I'm wondering briefly why exactly RAID (insert some random number?) is recommended? System To Control Server Load On Cpanel
a good method to have processes controlled in the resources they use, in a shared cpanel environment? For example, it appears that the cpanel backup (compressed) made the load skyrocket to beyond 60% cpu and 95% memory usage today, and this server is beefy to begin with. I want some system to kill processes immediately if they exceed X amount of resources or kill processes that spiral out of control (X amount of processes from same user). I'd like to be alerted of this action as well. How can I set this up?

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Most people probably run Linux on their media servers, but since I don't know much about Linux and the media server we have is unmanaged, I was wondering how you guys feel about running Windows Server 2003 Std on a media server instead of Linux. We'll only be using the server to host Flash video files (.flv) and we'll be serving those vids on websites hosted on other servers, resulting in approx. 50,000-100,000 media views per day (filesizes range from approx. 5MB to 10MB). We don't want to run Windows Media Services, just a Web server (IIS6) and have the Flash video players on the external websites take care of the streaming/downloading part.

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. VMware Server Under Windows Server 2003
I yesterday installed VMware Server under Windows Server 2003 x64, Enterprise Edition, and have this morning noticed the message 'Service unavailable' when browsing to a website hosted on the server under IIS. I have briefly looked into the problem and found the DefaultAppPool stopped, but after restarting it, it resets back to the stopped state when I once again browse to a hosted website. Does anyone have any experience of this problem and a workaround?

I have home network of 5 computers and 1 server running server 2003. I'm trying to use the IIS on the server to run multiple sites (for design purposes). i've installed DNS and setup my primary zone "shane.com" in "forward zone" i've added Host(a) and called it "test6" in IIS i've set up a new site and in host header value i've put test6.shane.com. everything works great on the server. when i type in [url]in the browser the page comes up without any problems. however when i do the same thing on the other workstations it pulls up the page some some other page from the internet and not my LAN as if it wasn't connecting to the primary DNS (which i changed to my server's ip 192.168.1.2). what am i doing wrong? why does it work on the server but not on any other workstation on my LAN?

DNS- Server 2003 WE
I have just recieved a new machine from leaseweb. I have no other machines in any of their datacenters so this may be something specific to there firewall rules. The machine came with leaseweb dns server entries, they wouldnt resolve any addresses so i changed them to openDNS addresses for the time being (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.222.220) These DNS servers I know to work, however they still fail to resolve addresses either by nslookup or through a browser. (DNS Request Timed Out) the server can ping the opendns addresses. I have verified that the DNS Client service is started. I dont know of any dependancies of the DNS client service - although I have noticed that leaseweb disable a lot of services on their default install. - Could it be a service that isnt started thats stopping DNS from resolving? I dont want to configure the Microsoft DNS server on this machine although I will if neccesary.

Windows Server 2003 Installation
I work for a big organization that has a check list for standard windows server 2003 installation. The list includes stuff such as , removing some users and adding some domain users, changing system name, windows update, ie7 installation, adding the system to the domain, installing norton anit virus from file shares and so on. Is there anyway to auto mate this or atleast everything to do with system settings including windows update ? (Minus norton install) I am sure one can make an answer file but i am not convinced by that answer as the post installation changes require editing regedit and other local security policies.
