so signed up for liquidweb the other day, went smooth, everything got setup in like 3-4 hours, however I had some dns questions and a dns issue with cpanel so I opened up 2 tickets. Response time was 4 hours 9 mins, kinda disappointing as I was expecting the "few minute" response everyone was raving about. Anyways, that aside, the answers didn't really help me so I replied back to the emails with a more detailed question, still no response as of yet ... approaching 4 hours and counting. I guess the other reviews about their recent lack of support was right
I signed up with liquidweb 1 months ago and i have vps with them,
Support 11/10 liquidweb support is by far the best I've ever had in my 3 years of hosting sites. It is quick (few minutes or less) and solves the issue the first time., they offer phone support! I cannot stress enough how great the support is.
Price 10/10 You can see for yourself that the prices are very nice. Best bang for the buck.
Product Quality is very Excellent 10/10 i'mn very happy with liquidweb and i Recommend any person to try his services
After 1 year of having a reseller account with Site5, we decided to upgrade to a VPS because performance/support/etc. on Site5 had been declining rapidly over the past few months.
Based on reviews on this board and elsewhere, we made the decision to go with a VPS from LiquidWeb. With the special we found on this board, we were able to get their highest managed VPS2 plan with all the upgrades for only $75/month.
After 1 week, we are very satisfied so far with the service we've received from LiquidWeb. Signing up for the plan was easy online. All the sales people I chatted with before signing up were helpful.
Once the account was setup, I communicated with the support department several times to ask questions or to request installation of software. I was told that php5 came by default on new VPS accounts, but that was not the case. However, they had it installed for me within 15 minutes after calling the support department. They also installed CURL and OpenSLL promptly when I requested it. They helped me get our custom nameservers set up in WHM and registered them for me at the registrar.
I am so glad to finally have phone support! This definitely beats the hours or sometimes days response time that we received at Site5.
I'll come back again in a few months to update my review, but for now things are looking good with LiquidWeb!
I came to use Liquidweb thorugh a string of random REALLY bad luck. From "Managed" VPS that ended up not getting patched and fried due to a security exploit (PowerVPS) to a RAID failure, during a backup, causing total data loss and backup loss (RockMyWeb's VDNet). I was ready to pull my hair out. So I decided to kick out the bucks for a Liquid Web VPS Plan 2 (with a great price from a special found here). All I can say is it was a night and day difference.
The server is fast. Remote access to this VPS is a fast as my dedicated server in the office. I thought moving to cPanel was going to slow things down but this thing flies! Wow!
The service is fast. I call support and a person picks up the phone. No e-mail. No long hold times. I call, someone answers, no need to transfer to a higher tech, it's just fixed. Wow!
The one downfall. And it's only a downfall if it's not what you want. cPanel only. I'm a big DirectAdmin fan, but I'm learning my way around cPanel again.
Until I'm ready to do dedicated (I'm guessing it's coming in 2k8) this thing is awesome!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
1x Web Hosting Talk for hooking me up with Liquidweb.
1x Web Hosting Talk Community for reviewing Liquidweb.
1x Liquidweb for the awesome service!
1x VDNet. It may sound strange but they did answer e-mails faster than anyone I had ever seen (multiple replies in under two mins). They had a great price, but bad luck drove me to change. I'm glad I did, but I wouldn't have a hard time recommending VDNet now that they fixed the problem that caused the loss of my server. (and they did give me a month free) They really did give good value for the price, and offer DirectAdmin which Liquidweb doesn't.
Anyone else care to share?
P.S.
I'm not a fan of emoticons, but I did it out of love for you guys. Feel free to hammer the server a bit and tell me how fast the pages load. They're pretty quick here in Costa Rica: CR Solutions Group Costa Rica Web Design.
WHT reviews and foru input have been a great help for me in figuring out what new VPS hosts to go with. So I'm posting this to offer similar insight and helpful information. Based on reviews here and other research, Final 3 picks
1. KnownHost
2. PCJAGUAR
3. LiquidWeb
(was also considering wiredtree but they only been around since June 2006)
Factors: Servers, support, price, complaints
All 3 host where about the same for servers, support and price-wise they all in the same ballpark.
Knownhost - no complaints found The other 2 - yes complaints found
The main reason we chose LIQUIDWEB:
faster ping test, has phone number for support, replied to complaints properly.
VSP setup - 1/2day
SUPPORT ISSUES:
1- Sonar Service Monitoring states: Error retrieving monitoring information
1 hour 15min. for un-automated reply and issue fix in 15 minutes
2- ERROR WHEN LOGIN INTO WHM OR VPS PANEL website certified by unknown authority - security error: domain name mismatch security certificate error and Nameserver problem
15 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.
1st issue - The certificate error that shows up when logging into CPanel/WHM is normal, as it is a self-signed cert. You can just tell your browser to accept the certificate and you should not receive the error any more.
2nd issue - The hostname entry can be fixed by simply clicking the button to automatically add an A record in WHM
3. E-mail being returned problem with its delivery.
15 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.
It appears that an udpate was made with your registrar yesterday which may be causing this issue. (My domain registar was taken a little longer than usually in DNS propagation)
6 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.
So far, network availability has been excellent and the support team has been helpful. I only wish that thier Knowlege base was a little more expanded for VSP functions are not setup by them that are optional and should be properly configured to tighten up the server further.
Will updated again about Liquidweb in a month or so.
also have a reseller account at Hostgator for about 2 months now after switching over from fatnetwork, good so far.
With the launch of my new web services company, I needed a dedicated server (of course). I have been a diehard SoftLayer customer for a long time, but LiquidWeb was highly suggested and recommended by a friend, and I figured it was worth a shot.
Here's everything in more detail Support: Sometimes my tickets took a bit more time than I would like, however I will say that it was worth the wait - They were pretty friendly (although the guy that helped me with my tickets was kinda grumpy, lol), and they knew what they were doing without any problems. All I could say is a slightly more personal/friendly service would be nice, but hey, I'm not complaining overall.
Network/Hardware: Not much to say other than the server was set up in about 20 hours, which is reasonable, with all the specs I ordered. The network is fast, hardware is good, no problems at all with either of them, awesome reliability.
Speed: The network speed has a few glitches here and there - sometimes a site will take a while to load, but all-in-all I'm not worried at all - everyone has problems.
Friendliness: Of course, LiquidWeb is a large company, which makes a "personal" level of support hard to provide - The people who helped me were pretty nice, although they all seemed a bit grumpy or tired of hearing the same old dumb questions, which I suppose is reasonable. The sales dude was awesome, he got me a free ram upgrade and port upgrade and I was happy.
Professionalism: Although not the friendliest most "cool" guys, the support team gets the job done in a reasonable time, which is all that really matters in the long run.
Everything was done well, time for ticket response was reasonable, etc.
ALL IN ALL: I recommend LiquidWeb to anyone looking for a great network with reliable networks, hardware, and dependable support. I wouldn't quite call their support team "heroic", as they advertise, but their pretty close. I plan to stay with LiquidWeb and possibly buy a secondary server in the future with SoftLayer before I move on looking for a colo provider.
We signed up for a VPS II plan with LiquidWeb on behalf of a client just over 6 months ago. I posted an early review here, and this is the promised 6-month follow-up.
Right now, we have two staging and two live hosts on the server. One live site is fairly low-traffic (although that will change over the next several weeks), and the other launched yesterday. Traffic is minimal so far (averaging under 2 page views per minute between the two). If increased traffic begins to affect performance, I intend to follow up about that.
Performance Well, since we resolved the bizarre FTP issues (documented in that previous thread), everything's moved quite snappily. We have yet to put the server under load (that won't happen until the holidays), but for the time being we're quite satisfied.
Sometimes individual frames of cPanel-integrated software (AWStats, phpMyAdmin) will fail to load, but a refresh on the frame in question usually brings them up. We haven't seen any similar issues with our actual sites, so for now, I'm going to lay the blame on WHM / cPanel.
Uptime Aside from some spurious notices of downtime from a buggy uptime monitor, we haven't seen any downtime whatsoever. Yay!
We now and then get notices overnight that cpsrvd failed and was restarted, but it never seems to affect anything else.
Support LiquidWeb's techs have been friendly. They are competent and very familiar with their standard systems, and they seem to have people with good system administration and networking expertise. The front-line staff were able to address all except a few rather specialized issues (notably the FTP problem mentioned above), and they don't appear to have the sort of bureaucracy that makes it difficult to get assistance from someone with additional expertise when necessary.
On two occasions, they've helped us install software that is not included as part of their standard package. One was a PHP extension. The other was Subversion (installed from the latest package available for CentOS). They were not comfortable helping us configure Subversion after installation, and they had already gone above and beyond to install it, so we muddled through ourselves.
As has been discussed frequently in this forum, phone support is very quick, while email support is slow but reliable. Email tickets are always answered within the time specified in the SLA, and usually within 4-6 hours, but often it appears that they aren't checked more than once a day.
As it happens, phone support is more to our liking for urgent issues anyway, and email for less-urgent items that may require documentation or exchanging paths and shell commands, so we've been very satisfied with the support.
Software I'll say right now that I can't stand WHM / cPanel. It's nice and easy for beginners; and experts can muck around under the hood without it... but for someone like me who's at a more intermediate level of understanding servers, it's a big pain in the rear.
For example, it insists on adding a "www" to the domain name when you set up a new account, and the non-www version is aliased to that. This mucks with some of our PHP scripts, and since there's no way to adjust it through the control panel, I had to edit httpd.conf to change it, which scared me because I was afraid it would mess up some of the cPanel integration, or be overwritten the next time cPanel wrote to the file.
Even worse is how shell accounts are handled. If you give a new account shell access, its user is automatically added to the "wheel" group, which is absurd.
Conclusion So far, we're very happy with LiquidWeb. The one reservation that would make me hesitate to recommend them to other clients for future projects is the control panel. But for anyone who likes WHM/cPanel, I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.
We purchased a VPS II plan with LiquidWeb about a month ago. Since I'm waiting for client feedback before launching the site, I thought I'd stop by and offer some first impressions.
Setup
Setup went very smoothly and fairly quickly. There was a bit of a mixup because they called my boss to verify the use of his credit card, and I'd used a different one than he anticipated. However, the problem was resolved quickly, and I appreciated that they had verified it. We made the purchase in the morning, and had access to the server by that afternoon.
Tech Support
So far, I've had reason to contact tech support three times:
IMAP
When we first got account access, I logged in and quickly looked over setting and server status. One thing I noticed was that IMAP had failed and would not restart properly, but I was not concerned, as we had no plans to use the service.
Two days later, my inbox (on another server) was suddenly flooded with approximately 3,000 IMAP failure alerts all arriving at once. Apparently our server's mail queue had been backed up. And now, since IMAP still would not restart, I was getting additional new alerts approximately every 30 seconds.
I submitted a support ticket and also called at the same time. I waited about 15 minutes (a bit longer than I would have liked) before the phone was answered -- by a very friendly and competent tech. She said there was nothing they could do to track down the mail queue problem now that it had apparently resolved itself, but she walked me through disabling IMAP and IMAP monitoring via the control panel. Since we didn't need the service anyway, I did not ask her to attempt to get it to start properly.
Hostnames
Our automatically assigned VPS hostname clashed with an existing hostname the client had in use. I, being an idiot, tried to use the WHM panel to change this, and promptly caused WHM to lock me out with "invalid license" messages.
I submitted a helpdesk ticket. About 45 minutes later, a tech updated the license for us.
FTP
We were having trouble connecting via FTP (credentials were accepted, but further communication timed out or was refused), and traceroutes -- from any network we tried, including third-party servers in other states -- were failing after they reached Liquid's network.
Oddly enough, HTTP was working fine, and tracerts from the Windows command line completed perfectly normally.
I received a fairly prompt response from a tech, who tried some standard things to resolve the problem (asking us to try passive FTP; updating and restarting the FTP service; changing settings; etc) over the following few days, without any progress.
I was frustrated that the FTP ticket didn't get any responses when they weren't making any progress on it, even after I reminded them that it was extremely urgent and asked whether I could provide them with any further diagnostic information -- I felt as if it had been abandoned.
With a deadline looming, I finally called support, and within seconds had another tech on the line. He reviewed the ticket, and I walked him through the problem and some of the things we'd tried. He couldn't reproduce the problem on his end, and we went back and forth for perhaps half an hour trying to identify what was going on.
Finally, he asked me to try connecting using a "www.subdomain.domain.com" instead of "subdomain.domain.com". Which worked. As far as I can tell, this is just a strange quirk of WHM/cPanel. The traceroute mystery remains unresolved, but FTP access is now painless.
Overall impressions
So far I'm reasonably happy with the service. Their front-line staff is quite capable and friendly, and initial response times have ranged from excellent to adequate.
I was rather frustrated at points by the lack of communication about the FTP ticket, but in the end it was resolved quickly once I called. I will probably use phone support more readily than the helpdesk in the future -- or at least follow up more aggressively on the phone.
I'm not enamored of WHM / cPanel, but that's not the host's fault.
I haven't had an opportunity yet to judge uptime or server or network performance. I'll try to check back in with a 6-month update that better covers those aspects.
I help a not-so-much-tech-savy friend running a busy wordpress website (50-70.000visitors each day) and a bit busy vbulletin forum (100 to 350 users online, 957 record), which is hosted at LiquidWeb since a month.
I got the server with a WHT special, is a AMD X2 5000+ , 4gb ram, dual sata raid1 hardware + third backup disk, cpanel fully managed.
I am not usually in the market for fully managed dedicated servers, because I am quite expert in running unix boxes, but as my free time begins to decrease I had no longer the time to help my friend every day, even for a simple httpd.conf vhost configuration change, so I thought to switch to a control panel fully managed server, so when I am not available he could write to support to have issues solved, without him waiting for me.
I decided to choose LiquidWeb for this project for several reason:
1) Sales person (M.Leven) replied to my pre-sales question very fast, and in a convincing way. 2) Network speed test was good 3) Price was very affordable. I used to pay 260$/mo for a dual core, 2gb ram, 2x160gb sata disks (raid software), unmanaged, no control panel, hosted in the UK. For 1$ less than the previous price at LiquidWeb I got: - Slightly slower cpu + Double Ram + Control Panel license + Hardware Raid and an addictional backup disk (3disk total) + Fully management. And the network differences with europe DC are not so big like I thought before. 4) It's a big solid company, they own all their equipment. While this is not a factor by itself (look at some horrible big companies like godad and 1und1), it's a plus if you're already sure of the quality, compared to a smaller/personal company.
So, order process went smoothly, I have got my server in maybe 8 hours after a phone call which welcomed my friend to liquidweb (and verified the identity). We have been happy to not need to provide a ID scan (as most previous hosters who lost my business did), because we are afraid of identity thefts and I won't ever send my IDs overseas. A phone call is enough (landline phone number is on the white pages anyway so it would easy to match with a name and more secure than requesting a easily-fakeable ID digital copy).
After I got the server I have begun setting everything up, and moving the data using rsync. I enjoyed the PIMS user area where you have a complete breakdown of your server load, bandwidth graphs, reverse ip control and else, with stats updated every minute.
The day after (once the rsync was done) I tried to setup the websites, and this is where I encountered my first (and unique at the moment) problem with LiquidWeb.
Their server "custom engineering" was not so good as I expekted.
Mysql was very slow to run, even at importing files, because was using default settings (very conservative on a 4gb ram server!) so I created a custom my.cnf file and everything went smoothly (I hope they're able to do this on request for customers, since they're a full managed provider). After I switched DNS, I realized SuPHP/PHP-cgi was causing extremely high loads, from 7.00 to 15.00 ... So I compiled Apache 2.2.8 (now updated to 2.2.9) and PHP5.2.6 dso (mod_php) with my custom options, and cpanel built-in eaccelerator support, now my average load is 0.60-0.70
I understand that if you want a more secure php environment you need to bear a performance tradeoff, but this was too much (10-20x)!
I think that the only liquidweb fault is not stating clearly that if you choose their sever-secure package with su-php / php-cgi, and you run an intensive PHP application, then your performance would be severely degraded.
I hope this is not a way to upsell better hardware to customers, but I am confident it's not the case as most people won't buy a load balancer and a couple of addictional servers for sure, they will simply go away, so it's not in their best interest to provide slow servers.
I think they should provide a choice or at least a complete information if you want an hardened server: 1) Slightly hardened (apf+rkhunter+someotherstuff), but with mod_php and without those very restrictive mod_security rules: best for performances and compatibility. 2) Highly hardened, with php-cgi, strict mod_security, with a warning for the user of the possible performance problem if they run really busy php websites.
Anyway, once I optimized my apache and my websites, I had not any further problem, and my website is running smoothly. So that's the only negative thing i can warn any users about Liquidweb.
Support: Always very responsive, fast and competent answers. Unlike most provider claiming "fully managed" this is really proactive. Once I was upgrading apache and forgot to turn 80port monitoring off. They proactively contacted me in less than 5 minutes to ask what was going on, and to request my (changed) root password if I wanted them to check. When I reboot my server or shutdown apache for a while I often see their ssh login from a .liquidweb.com box.
Network : Well, the surprising thing is I am really happy with the network. It's surprising because I live in southern europe and I am never happy with most USA locations (why not host in Europe? Because is too expensive indeed, dollar is so cheap nowadays). Liquidweb facility is amongst the fewer ones I have been happy with in several years (the other ones being Ashburn, VA; NAC, NJ and Fortress ITX, NJ), so I hope they keep a premium network this way. I push 3.5mbit/s on average, with 12-20mbit spikes.
So in the end I would raccomend LiquidWeb for the overall price/quality ratio, if you are in the market for a fully managed dedicated server with a control panel.
I hope our experience will keep being good as it is. If this will not happen you will be the first to know ;-) I have almost never been sweet with hosting providers in the past on this forum, but at the moment really I have nothing to complain about LW service, so let's hope it all keeps that way.
Last year, I wrote my 1 year review so I figured I would come back and add my two year review (since the old thread is a bit dated now). You can see the old thread here: [url]
The domain I had verified at that time is no longer in use, however I assure you I still have an account with them (my main domain was registered in 03 and is still there). If you require me to verify the domain with the mods though I have no problems with that.
Alright, time for the review. I'll break this down into sections for easy reading.
My situation: I have since moved up to a VPS as I have out grown the shared reseller account environment they offer at sonet7.com. I've run my own dedicated servers before, am in fact quite familiar with them, however I have scaled my hosting according to my needs. I will more than likely upgrade to full dedicated servers with them again in the coming future.
1. Service
I still stand behind my original review. Their service has remained consistently top notch. You get exactly what you pay for and exactly what they offer. Ticket response times have actually improved and whether I put in a ticket at 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, they are generally answered within 10 minutes and resolved in under an hour.
After they migrated my accounts over to the VPS there were a couple hiccups (nothing too big) which they quickly resolved. So far everything has been smooth and I've gone over the VPS very thoroughly to make sure that the server isn't overloaded. My load averages are consistently 0.01 - 0.08 at the highest.
2. Quality
Their network always impresses me. I have some contacts in France and Belgium whom I've asked to do speed tests on the site to see how their connection was. They consistently get quick download speeds even from over seas, which is impressive to me considering the distance. My sites always load quick and downtime almost never happens. Truth be told, if any of my sites have been down any time recently I haven't noticed it. And I get a fairly high volume of emails, so this would be something I would notice fairly quickly.
3. Pricing
Their prices are a bit higher than a good number of hosts out there. I'd say they're about the mid-tier in pricing. Is it worth it? Yes, most definitely. I would rather spend an extra $20 or $30 a month knowing that I have nothing to worry about in case the network goes down or the server I'm on has hardware failure. They won't accidentally delete my data, lose my backups, bill me for things I didn't purchase, give me the run around, etc. You pay for quality and quality is what you get.
4. Overall
I can't recommend LiquidWeb/Sonet7 enough. It's because of their continually exceptional service that I continue to give them raving reviews. They have yet to do me wrong and after 2+ years of service (started service with them 06/01/2006) I don't see myself leaving any time in the foreseeable future.
I have been at liquidweb for a about a month and I HAVE to say. These guys are the best.
I have no affiliation with them and I feel obligated to post a review because I was jumping from one provider to another, trying to find a good VPS solution, until I found liquidweb.
Oh my god, I have posted more than 30 different tickets at the helpdesk and NONE took more than 10 minutes to be answered. Also, none took more than 25 minutes to be RESOLVED except one, which took about 8 hours to be resolved:
For this ticket, I request help with a third party application (clipshare). The technician said: Sure I can help! Poor guy. We exchanged more than 60 (sixty) emails in 8 hours. He worked together with me for 8 straight ours until the problem was completely solved. I actually felt sorry for the guy. I actually thought: "what if this guy have to go? does he have a family?".
I have never seen something like that. The only way that liquidweb.com can be better for me is if I don't have to pay for my VPS. Actually, if they double the price of their VPS, I will gladly pay.
I found that the do not provide good first. I ordered a new VPS1 plan with their promotional offer on WHT. Ordered was setup on time after getting verification call from them. I selected fantastico in order form and now I found there is no fantastico installed. I asked few other query like bind is failing since server setup and there is no reply. My tickets are pending since last 4 hours. There is only Sales people are on web based support. One of them connected me to the technical support through phone but it's been another 30minutes and there is no reply.
I highly suggest not to go for LiquidWeb for VPS. I am checking if they provide moneyback as I need to use this option ultimately.
I currently have a shared hosting plan at Liquidweb, and am considering upgrading to a VPS. After reading countless threads, I narrowed my potential hosts between Liquidweb, and Knownhost. Liquidweb won out mainly due to my extremely happy experience with them, though I do have a couple of questions.
I have been using shared hosting exclusively for years and it has served me well. I am now running a site that is gaining popularity and find that shared hosting is insufficient for my needs. Problem is, I know nothing about having to manage a VPS. I have read horror stories about having ones box hacked or exploited for some sort of zombie spam machine.
That being said, having a “Fully Managed” VPS sounds great. I read through the tutorials, mainly the “HOW TO: Secure and Optimize your VPS” and feel even more overwhelmed due the vast amount of tweaking that needs to be done in order secure a VPS.
While looking over the specs of VPS #1 on the Liquidweb site, they mention that their VPS’s feature “ServerSecure”. My question is:
Is “ServerSecure” secure to the point where I don’t need to manually add the myriad of tweaks listed in the above mentioned tutorial?
This is all new to me. I am interested in learning how to take care of a server, but I don’t want to be exploited in the mean time.
Also, my site is running two installs of Wordpress with a moderate amount of plugins. I run one for production, and one for testing puposes. I also run Mint. All have MySQL databases. While I do not currently have wpcache installed, I do plan to install it after moving to a VPS.
I have tentatively decided on VPS #1. My only worry is the amount of RAM included in the package. I found the “LiquidWeb: 10 Year Anniversary Special” thread in the “VPS Hosting Offers” forum and noticed that the RAM is upgraded from 256MB to 384MB, but I am worried that it may not be enough. I would like to have the specs of a VPS #1 server, but have the RAM (512MB to 768MB) of a VPS #2 server. The thing is, the VPS #1 configuration page does not allow me to upgrade the RAM beyond 384MB.
Will Liquidweb allow me to upgrade just the RAM of a particular server?
I realize that I could contact Liquidweb sales reps and ask, but I thought I would bundle this with my other question here first in the hopes that someone might know.
I just got a second server with them and all was fine until I logged into WHM today and got some message about missing A-Hostnames?
This was never there before. All seemed fine for about 2 weeks.. Things still look OK I think..
I ask for support but the support is really confusing and they dont explain things. My first server runs like a champ but it took them a month to sort out hostname issues with my first server.. They configured wrong....
Now here we go again...
to ensure things are properly configured..
Also, Im running a script on the first server that works fine...
On the new server it just doesnt work.. The script company is saying curl and ssl aren't enabled on the new server? I'm not sure what this means..
I paid for a VPS server for one month on LiquidWeb last week which didn't work from the off. After spending many hours with their support, they wouldn't fix it and made some excuse up. I requested to have my account cancelled and a refund on Day 1 but all week they've been making excuses up and are refusing to cancel my account, let alone give me a refund.
What should I do here? I don't see why I paid them $60 via Paypal for a VPS that didn't even work properly. I want a full refund.
I have about 30 websites under my belt right now with ixwebhosting.com. I have 1 account but nearly 30 sites linked to that account - yes yes, means it is VERY slow because a) it's on a shared server, and b) there are literally thousands of sites on my server (did a reverse Ip lookup)
I've just recently started a new forum which has taken off, to the point where the database cannot be pulled up half the time because soo many people are on the server. This is NOT good. I'm missing out on revenue that could be gained, and since I'm advertising/marketing this site, it sucks even more!
So my question is - I'm goin to move all of my websites to a dedicated server. I thought about a VPS, but for $30 more monthly I can have a dedicated with a gig of memory, yadda yadda yadda...
Should I use 1and1.com? They are $99.99/monthly, or should I use someone else? Who else can compete at that price? I get everything I need with 1and1, including enough hard drive space, enough ram (for now), control panel, etc...
I'm a n00b in the dedicated server world, so help would be great. I plan to purchase a dedicated server within the next few days, and so far 1and1 has been my best bet when it comes down to money.
I need some quidance and suggestions to pick right provider
My main and important basic needs
-fully managed (because i dont have much knowledge about servers) -Quick response and good support (very impotant) -best uptime(very important) -space least 20 gb -ram 512 -Budget round 50-75$
PS: Eapps giving me plus point if i host my existing java small application or do just some practice
Let me first say that I'm a big believer that (in todays age) buying something should be simple. It shouldnt be complicated or difficult. If I want to give someone money, then I'd hope they'd take it and provide me a service.
Not at liquidweb.
After reading a bunch of different opinions, we finally opt'ed to try out LiquidWeb's VPS service. The price was decent, the services looked right, and the reviews on WHT were really good.
I submit my order - wait for my confirmation call.
I get that call, but it is left on my office phone (the number I used to sign up with). No problem, I call LW back at the number they left and proceeded to complete my order.
The person who answered said they needed to call me back on the number that was submitted with the order. My office is 45 minutes away, and I asked if it were possible to leave me a message or something else so that we could play with the VPS over the weekend. No.
<conversation> So my only option is to wait until Monday?
Yup.
Could I cancel the order and resubmit with a phone that I'm sitting next to?
Yup.
So what's the difference?
Don't know.
Ok - let's cancel the order and I will try another host that wants my money.
Ok.
Do you need my name?
Sure. </conversation>
And that's it. I asked for an email confirmation, and we'll see if I actually get the account cancelled or if this evolves into a nightmare.
It may sound like I'm being hard to deal with. I certainly can appericiate the value of validating an order. However, tell me that, or give me a way of proving an alternate number or verification mechanism (maybe to read the CV2 number on the card?).
First impressions are everything for us.. In a day and age where there are literally hundreds of vendors who can provide the same thing, I'd think these kinds of issues would be a thing of the past.
Say what you want about 1&1, but they have always given us what we needed when we needed it.
Mosso - samething.
Now that we have ruled out Liquidweb, anyone have any suggestions for a good VPS provider? We were also looking at Virpus, but decided against them with the recent talk of all the "migration" troubles.
I am looking at a dedicated server from serverbeach or a vps from liquidweb
"web stuff" i run a website in which only my friends could access the site is using gallery with about 3,000 pictures from local car shows
the monthly visits is under 80
"email stuff" one important thing is eye candy which one has a better email gui because i am willing to pay up to $100.00 per month for a flashy email gui
currently hosted with gate.com and they suck and my friends showed me 2 programs called zimbra & smartermail which look so cool and they told me you need a server or vps
and if you are wondering i am a college kid so that's why this post sounds so stupid but it's real
So, I plan to switch to one of those two dedicated server hosts. I am not sure which one is better. I kinda like them both, but have no experience with them. What do you think?
Liquidweb.com offer:

Wiredtree.com offer:

I am leaning to Wiredtree because they are new and small company (i think) and I think these new companies are quite nice to their customers in fullfiling their needs but that is non objective opinion. Both companies have good reviews out there. So it's simply choice of user experience with them.
So, in your humble opinion which one should become my favorite host for the next few years.
Hello everyone, i would like to know if the forum has users from Europe and that they have dedicate server at Liquid Web. I have few dedicate servers at liquidweb and in past 12 months I have big problems with speed with these servers, and with speed to them. Speed download / upload sometimes does not exceed either 512 Kbps and sometimes download or upload from liquidweb server can be only 10 kB/s.
Loading of some pages can take for 1 minute. I opened a ticket for this problem, but the Support feedback told me that this is quite normal for my distance which I consider totally unacceptable. It is acceptable that the ping must be large, but low speed is simply unimaginable.
I was wondering what people thought of Liquid Web, my friend has his site (twivo.com) with Liquid Web and says they are absolutely amazing. But I want to know what other people think of them.
I work for a medium sized non-profit organization. We are currently looking to upgrading our hosting. These are our requirements:
- 2 gigs of storage
- 15-20 gigs of bandwidth
- PHP/MySQL
- SSH access
- As fast and reliable as possible
Our budget is up to $30/month, but I'd like to pay a little less if possible. Most importantly, we need the hosting to be fast and reliable. Our website is built with PHP/MySQL, and right now it takes forever to load anything. It seems that Medialayer and Liquidweb keep coming up as reliable and fast hosts, so I'd like to hear your thoughts as to which you think would fit our organization best.
We need to move couple of sites from their current platform. If you had to pick either HostMySite or LiquidWeb, which one would you choose for shared hosting?
we have a vps hosting package through liquidweb which offers 200gb of bandwidth.
Recently we got a bill with an overage fee of $2527.5 for 3370GB additional bandwidth. I looked at all the cpanel logs and since we had the hosting account we never went over 10gb including the month they said we went over 3370 GB. I put a ticket into liquidweb and they said we launched "Multi-media services" during the same month of the overage, resulting in the overage. We did no such thing, the only thing we did was add content to our website. In the end they want us to pay the bill without offering any log or idea where the bandwidth came from. I'm just wondering if theres anything we can do other then just taking a bill for $2500 of unknowns.
