Oct 16, 2013I have Plesk 11.5 (service provider mode) on a Windows 2008 server IIS7.Most of my sites are developed in .asp and therefore i use a custom 500-100.asp error page that check s the IP of the visitor then displays either a friendly error, or if its my IP a full error of what has happened (it also emails me the error). This allows me to debug pages easily whilst developing and to keep an eye on anyone trying SQL Injection hacks on my sites (as the error and email also have session variables and IP address).I dont have root access to the server as it is a Webfusion dedicated server.I have following the Plesk documentation -
1) Switch on custom errors for the subscription
2) Look in virtual directories and navigate to error documents
3) Find the error in question (500:100) and change it to point at either a file or URL
FILE - I had the data centre add in the 500-100.asp error page in to the virtual template so that my page is available in the list of virtual files - this didn't work but that maybe because its not a static page??
URL - when i add the path it says its incorrect, if i add a fully qualified address, it accepts it but it doesn't work.give me a specific example of the URL that can be entered relative to the root as the format in the documentation isn't accepted. The last step is to restart IIS which is also an issue as i cant seem to do this from the Plesk panel..It is as if it isn't catching the 500:100 error, and only catching the general 500 error??

May 10, 2009I am going to be buying a dedicated server from kimsufi Most likely the 2XL Package.
My streamers will be using my server aswell, On weekends we will be running 3-4 streams at a time, weekdays 1-2 at a time.
Spreading all the streams out, at anyone time we will have 300 viewers.
I need to know your advice on this before i go spending money.
How do i convert my dedi into a flash media server, i need red5 or something, thats all i know so far. My streamers wil be streaming to server with FME, And i also want it coded so that my streams can only be embedded on my site.
Basically i dont have a clue where to start, how long would it take me to set up etc....
In addition, what kind of server do i need, windows / linux / traffic / burstable / standard etc..

While I was searching for Dedicated Servers, I learnt about Virtual Dedicated Servers but I am not very sure about their reliability? Are Virtual Dedicated Servers useful? My website current serves over 2500-3000 visitors a day resulting in 30,000 pageviews and I am expecting the traffic to grow by atleast 2 folds in the next few months as I start some PPC campaigns and Email Marketing for my website. Can a Virtual Dedicated Server cater such needs assuming my website to be more of less dynamic website written in php?

which is better ? to go with VPS ? or dedicated server ? which provider do u recommend ? how much am I expected to pay for my required setup ? what about CPU ?

It's already up and running with static IP address, however hosting offers a "Static IP Address", which doesn't really make sense, cause I already have one?

Now we have planned to move from Server A to Server B to avoid/minimize server loads caused on Server A due to heavy traffic.
How should we begin ?
How can we minimize the downtime in migration. ?
How can we transfer our awstats logs from last 2 years to new server ?
We are mainly concerned about domains/dns setup where we have least knowledge these are only on Server A. We are also using custom nameservers and Servint nameservers for some domains respectively.

Jan 2, 2007I currently run a couple of forum-heavy websites on a Pentium D950 (3.4 GHz 800FSB Dual Core 2x2mb cache). The sites use most resources for mysql and php (via apache), plus some more for email and serving images via tux.
So now I'm looking for an upgrade. I've grabbed the following off the Softlayer website:

Now what do I make of this? First of all, I'm having a hard time relating the CPU speed to the clock speed. The 5050 seems alright to me, but I've read somewhere that Dempseys are already regarded as outdated, so obviously I'm underestimating the importance of clock speed? (Do I get the performance by basically multiplying the clock speed with the CPU speed?) Also, what's up with the quad core? Is that something worth considering for the purpose mentioned above, or will it be wasted on the four cores? What about the lower CPU speed of the quad core - will the faster dual core actually get the same or even more work done?
Or am I looking at the wrong brides and should rather run and get myself two cheapo servers with php on one and mysql on the other? (Or go with one of the above and just take two disks?)

Differences Between Router, Switch And Hub
Feb 15, 2007differences between a router, hub and a switch.
I have set up a file/print server using samba on my home network that just uses a simple 4 port linksys router, so I'm relatively familiar with routers.
Its my understanding that a hub, is kind of like a router but w/o a "to modem" spot. So you would use a hub if you just wanted to connect some computers to have a LAN party or something, right? Where there'd be no internet connection. Is this correct?
As far as switches, I get the feeling they are like routers, only better? Because data centers and companies mostly use switches, not routers? Or am I way off? What exactly is different between a switch and a router.
As a supplamental question- I will be starting college next fall, and a friend of mine said that dorm students are not supposed to use routers, but rather switches. Any idea why this would be the case?
And also, along the lines of college networks. Say I wanted to take my server with me to my dorm, how would that work? I know this depends on the university, but how would such a large network like that work- would each dorm have its own public IP address? Or would the dorm have one public IP, then each room have an internal IP? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've really only worked with simple home networking

Feb 10, 2009I have been given a fairly high spec dedicated server and I would like suggestions what I could do with it.
Briefly the spec is: Dual Opteron, Two 360GB HDD's, 4GB Ram, on Unmetered Bandwidth located in Germany.
