Crontab Permissions

Mar 18, 2008

In trying to setup a cronjob on a new server I notice that cPanel tells me that usr/bin/crontab permissions are wrong and that they need to be changed to 4755.

When I log in to the server with WinSCP and attempt to change the permissions it just doesn't do it ... it looks like it's doing it, no errors, but it just leaves it the same!

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: FTP And File Permissions Are Incorrect?

Jun 4, 2014

Whenever I setup a new FTP user in Plesk and then configure my FTP client with exactly the same username and password and transfer files and folders onto the server then the file permissions allocated are incorrect. Folders get allocated a permission of 700 and files a permission of 600, whereas I want all folders to have a permission of 755 and files a permission of 644. How can I change my setup so that files and folders get the permissions I want ?

Rsync Backup - User Permissions

Jan 18, 2009

I have a problem with my rsync backup

First of all my setup is thus:

I have a Linux box at the office which has an rsync cron on it which pulls from my web server as a backup. It pulls websites, mysql, conf files etc.

My web server is running debian etch LAMP etc.

When I originally set it up I used root user to log into the web server, and setup keys to authenticate, this worked perfectly.

I then decided that having direct root access to the web server was a bad thing so I have turned off root login (PermitRootLogin no in sshd_config)

I then setup a backup user which works fine for the website files but fails on permissions for the mysql data files (/var/lib/mysql)

How can I get over this without granting root access to the backup user which would defeat the object of not allowing root access.

I have been told about host authentication based on ip address but I have dynamic address at the office so that would be no good

Upgrading To VPS - User And Group Permissions

Jul 23, 2009

I've finally made the leap to upgrading from shared hosting to a VPS. I'm still setting up my configuration before I point the domain name to my new server, but for now, I have the site mirrored and I'm ensuring that all is running well. For the most part, everything is working, but I am running into a few permission issues...

As of right now, all the files in my htdocs directory are owned by root, and I am logging into my FTP client as root. However, I'm pretty sure that this is not how I should be doing this, because I need to allow write permissions to some folders from my php scripts.

I was just curious, how do you you guys set up the users and groups on your linux servers (running apache). I'm just not certain of the best way to handle it. Should I make a new FTP user, and if so, what group should it go in? Should that user be the owner of all the web files? When is it safe to set folder permissions to 777?

MySQL Forgetting User Permissions

Jul 5, 2007

Does anyone know what could be the cause of this issue? I located a few others over at cpanel.net that have this problem, but no solution has been found.

[url]

I am running a VPS server with the following:

WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.1-S14304
RedHat 9 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0
phpMyAdmin - 2.9.0.2
MySQL client version: 4.1.10
mysql version: 5.0.27-standard

I have a database user that needs "Super Privileges" and so this was done. However, when Cpanel is updated the user permission is reset automatically from "ALL PRIVILEGES" to "USAGE".

Here's a look at the database permissions from phpMyAdmin.

Code:
User Host Password Global privileges Grant
hello localhost Yes ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
hello_ % No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes
hello_ localhost No ALL PRIVILEGES Yes

The user "hello" loses its "ALL PRIVILEGES" and switches over to "USAGE" if an update is triggered. Updates to cpanel, creating/removing a database/user, and updating the account password will cause the switch.

What Are Common MySQL User Permissions

Jun 29, 2007

I want to use something like PHPBB forums and using one MySQL user and database. Just wondering, what are common user permissions I should set for the user? I want to try to minimize any permissions that can cause big risk to the server security.

Here is a full list of permissions I can grant to the user (via Webmin):

-Select table data
-Insert table data
-Update table data
-Delete table data
-Create tables
-Drop tables
-Grant privileges
-Reference operations
-Manage indexes
-Alter tables
-Create temp tables
-Lock tables

How To Edit FTP User Permissions On A CPanel Account

May 15, 2008

My Pink Floyd website has a photo section of rare concert pictures that our members upload. We have about 3,000 of these pictures, that our members upload via an FTP server that is hosted on a simple cPanel web hosting account. Someone logged into the account and not only deleted all the pictures, but uploaded obscene pictures and index.html files to some really nasty stuff.

We delete all the obscene stuff, but before we re-upload all the pictures I need to know...

On a cPanel account is there a way to have the FTP User only able to upload files and not edit/delete/change? Somehow we can edit their permission?

I asked HostGator about this and the ChatTech said this cannot be done, and I was a bit surprised. I could easily do this on my own server, but i'm not sure where to start at the user level.

Plesk Automation :: Change Of Permissions For User

Jul 2, 2014

I believe the product we are using is Parallels Operations Automation.

We have a customer that we want to be able to give the right to unlock user accounts. The only way to do this seems to be to enable "Billing" as one of the privileges. Unfortunately this gives them more access than we really want to. Is there some trick we can use to give this user only these rights?

Granting MySQL Command Line Permissions To A User

Sep 3, 2007

Is there any safe way to grant command line permissions to a user/specific account? One that only allows them access to databases on their account.

The problem is that this user intermittently runs queries that cause their database to hang (including PHPMyAdmin, so they can't view the processlist through there), and I have to manually kill that process, because they can't.

Server is 2.4.21 with MySQL 4.0.27, admin is cPanel WHM.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Webspace System User And Rsync Permissions

Nov 21, 2014

I have just used rsync to backup a dedicated server to a new cloud server. I put the files in a plesk webspace 'Backup' folder for ease of use (gui). In File Manager for that webspace it shows the folder user and group as root, which is obviously correct as rsync maintains users etc?

Thats fine, I just wanted to be able to back them up along with the rest of the server configuration and content.

However, when I run backup it says "For security reasons, backing up is performed on behalf of subscription's system user. This system user has no read access to:" and "So it was not backed up. All other data was backed up successfully. To fix this issue you may grant access read/write to the file or directory for system user "(username)" or "apache"."

I don't know how to give read/write access to the system user? Through file manager there is no option to change permissions.

Pico Etc/crontab VS Crontab -e

Sep 12, 2006

I have been searching for an answer on this for a couple of days and have yet to find one.

I am running a box with Centos.

If I Pico etc/crontab I get this type of output;

SHELL=/bin/bash
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
MAILTO=root
HOME=/

# run-parts
01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly
02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily
22 4 * * 0 root run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
42 4 1 * * root run-parts /etc/cron.monthly

If I crontab -e I get this type of output;

44 21 * * * /scripts/upcp
0 1 * * * /scripts/cpbackup
*/15 * * * * /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/bin/dnsqueue > /dev/null 2>&1
2,58 * * * * /usr/local/bandmin/bandmin
0 0 * * * /usr/local/bandmin/ipaddrmap

Why different?

I am taking it crontab using -e is not the same file as etc/crontab?

WHMCS CronJob

May 14, 2008

I have a reseller account with Reseller Zoom. My problem started 72 hours ago when I noticed my WHMCS was not working on my website. I was also recieving Cron Daemon emails stating:

Site error: the file <b>/home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php</b> requires the ionCube PHP Loader ioncube_loader_lin_5.2.so to be installed by the site administrator.

at this time i was using the standard WHMCS cron: php -q /home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php

RZ told me they made a custom php.ini file and placed it in my directory. Then said to change my Cron job to

php -c/home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/php.ini /home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php

At this point i noticed the WHMCS was loading again on my website. However I am still recieving Cron Job errors.

Delete A Cronjob Via SSH

Mar 23, 2007

I have a cronjob that is still entered in my server, but due to my own lack of knowledge i deleted the domain from my server without removing the cronjob and now i keep getting the emails from my server

Code:
/bin/sh: line 1: /home/userID_Removed/public_html/cgi-bin/script-removed/cron.cgi: No such file or directory
I just need to know how to remove the cronjob via SSH, i logged in as Root to my SSH and then did crontab -l and I see the two cronjobs I want to remove, but can't find the code to do so anywhere via Google.

There is 3 total that I want to remove but there is about 10 cronjobs setup there so i want to remove those three and make sure the other 7 stay running as they should.

Cronjob Doesn't Run

Mar 2, 2007

I have a strange problem with cronjob - it doesn't run. I added a cronjob using webmin to run twice in one hour:

Command:
/usr/bin/php /home/site4/public_html/maintenence.php

It's a php script with some mysql queries. For testing purposes in the end of script I added command to send me mail when cronjob is done. I never get mail.

If I click on "Run now" in Webmin interface, everything works fine - cronjob is done and I get mail. So, I am sure that there is nothing wrong with script, but for some reason my cronjob just doesn't run.

This seems like an application for a cronjob. Anyway, it looks like you can only have cronjobs run every minute, not seconds.

Crontab

1) #> nano /var/spool/cron/root
Then type in the cron entry and save it
#> service crond restart
It cannot work if have not restart crond

2) #> crontab -e
Then type in the cron entry and save it

3) #> nano /etc/crontab
type in the cron entry and save it

I can use above three method without any problem.

However I cannot use crontab [filepath] method

4) #> crontab /home/admin/domain.com/www/testing/crontab.dat
*crontab.dat is a cron entry.
after type in this line,
I use crontab -l and see cron entry has been added to /var/spool/cron/root
However, the cron job will not run even I restart crond.

Crontab

Aug 20, 2007

It's been nearly a year i'm running several cron jobs on my CPanel hosting. The format for the command i used is as follows (putting aside the timing info):

php /home/account/public_html/subdir/cron/cron1.php

A few days ago, all cron jobs stopped working, probably because of a certain setting that my host changed. I contacted my host, and he replied that the format i'm using for the commands was not proper, and he gave me the proper command as:

GET [url]

I tried it, but it didnt work....

I googled the problem and got tens of commands... i simply wanna run a PHP file (the file itseld is functional if i browse it) every now and then, so what is the command i should be using?

How does one run crontab effectively?

I have been trying to start up a new cronjob. I wrote the line command chmoded it to 755 and put it in a folder cron.x

In my crontab I input the following:
30 23 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.x

the first is minutes
the second hours, right?

At 23:30 on my server time, nothing happened. >_<;; I'd like to have my cronjobs emailed to me so that if there is an error, I can see it.

I've been combing google with little avail (can't find much other than unrelated blog junk on that engine nowadays anyway >_<) I figured WHT would be more useful.
