Does anyone know the step by step procedure for compiling apache with phpsuexec enabled and making apache recognize php on a non-cpanel server?

I Have Just Compiled Apache Using Phpsuexec

Feb 23, 2007

is there anything I should do now?

everthing generally seems fines but I have a strange thing going on with an images folder that a php script puts users images in (so my users can upload files). this folder was previously 777 and now phpexec has been installed the images are not showing up. I get a "You don't have permission to access" message on the image files. I tried chmod'ing the images folder to 766 and 755 and the same thing happens. This has nothing to do with the php script as I can't even access the image files by typing in the URL in a browser.

What Would Cause Apache To Restart And Not Compile PHP

Apr 22, 2007

Today I got the devastating and heart-stopping news that all administraters fear most: "I'm looking at your website, and something's terribly wrong!!!"

The person went on to say that each page was just "filled with code ro something." When I finally saw it myself I discovered that my raw PHP pages were being served to the end user with no compilation --all of my top secret code; a real nightmare.

I went to look at the error logs and found that for several restarts Apache had not been compiling PHP.

It usually looks like this:

Quote:

[Wed Apr 18 18:35:11 2007] [notice] bandwidth monitoring enabled (mapping file: /etc/virtualhosting/mappings/apache.domainmap)
[Wed Apr 18 18:35:11 2007] [notice] Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a mod_fastcgi/2.2.10 mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.24_01 PHP/4.2.2 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b configured -- resuming normal operations

[Wed Apr 18 18:35:11 2007] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized (pid 16385)

But now it looked like this:

WTH?

I could be WAAAY off base, but my first reaction was that I'd been hacked -- someone had found a way to disable PHP so they could find sensitive information in raw PHP pages. That could be totally wrong.

At any rate, even if I never learn why Apache sometimes will compile without PHP (and some other modules) without me telling it to do so, I'd like to be prepared for an embarassment like like this.

Is there any way, say, in the .htaccess file (or anywhere, anyway), I can tell Apache not to serve **ANY** pages unless the PHP module is present?

Yum Etc Vs Manual Compile - Specifically Apache

Jun 2, 2009

We run CentOS for our web servers (not providing hosting) and manually compile Apache, PHP etc. What would be the benefits to using Yum rather than compiling the software ourselves?

The way I see it, Yum allows Apache etc to automatically update to latest versions and saves time. When compiling myself though, I can specify exactly where to install to and which modules etc to install with the software. Is there any reason we should be using Yum instead?

Unable To Compile Apache Under Ubuntu

Jan 4, 2007

A little background on what I'm doing here...

I'm setting up a Linux machine specifically for use as a VNC here at work.

The IT Manager said he'd used Ubuntu before but left the distro up to me.

I set up my test machine with Ubuntu but need to compile Apache for portions of it to work. I've never had any problems building Apache before, but this is what I'm getting here. I have a feeling that, since I've not used Ubuntu before, that I'm just missing a step. I also noticed that the "make" command doesn't work. Does that need to be installed and compiled as well?

Bizarre Apache Compile Error

Recently purchased a new dedicated machine from a Savvis wholesaler, with intentions of using it as a backup server, CentOS 5.0 default install with default install of cPanel/WHM (not configured by the DC) -- Went to recompile apache with the appropriate addons and modules and this is why I get, any ideas?

If you have an older version installed you wil need to
Dump your databases to a file and then restore them
after the install as 7.3.x is not backwards compatible.
If you do not have any databases, you can just run:
mv /var/lib/pgsql /var/lib/pgsql.old

Can Not Compile Htppd Apache Because Of Apache APR

Aug 6, 2008

I am trying to install dedicated web server on my Slackware 12.0.0 machine. I am a novice in Linux, but succeeded in MySQL & proFTPd installation. The problem now in httpd compiling.

I downloaded the latest Apache 2.2.9, but it needs Apache Portable Runtime 1.3.2 installed. I downloaded 1.3.2 version and run ./configure

Plesk And Phpsuexec,

Oct 29, 2007

Searching a while I learn that phpsuexec is not native in Plesk. But it's years or months ago. I'd like to know if now is there any easy way to install phpsuexec (or any alternative: suexec, suphp...) in Plesk?

I have a VPS with Virtuozoo and Plesk, and it could be better if scripts run with owner's permissions. There're 2-3 users on the VPS and I don't want to config Apache to run with special user apart from nobody.

PHPsuexec Good Or Not

Dec 5, 2007

for servers to have PHPsusexec enabled or not? Is it advisable?

Btw I know Apache has the phpsu module. Is it similiar to PHPsuexec? if i didn't compile Apache with that module, does it means when i enable PHPsuexec through cPanel, it won't work?

I was wondering if it is the script problem or the settings problem. I have a script that upload and create files, however it always have things created (eg. folders) in nobody's group and owner. However when I do it in FTP, the permission was set to the user's. Can anyone advise what problem it is?

PHPSuExec & Blank Pages

I am running Joomla on a server and am trying to get phpsuexec to work with it, so far without success. From searching the web and forums I managed to get rid onf my 403 and 500 errors, but now I am dealing with blank white pages on all of my sites where the page being loaded is a php file.

I have all of my php calls removed from .htaccess and put into a php.ini file.

What else am I missing here? Is there a conflict in my apache build maybe?

Alternative To SuPHP (phpsuexec) For Plesk

Jul 25, 2009

As all we know suPHP or phpsuexec are coded to let apache run the script with file's owners name and not the "nobody"

1- Plesk does not support phpsuexec but its possible to setup suPHP on plesk! Any comment, suggestion experience?

2-My alternative
I create a group for each single user named "apacheUSERNAME" and will assign both apache and the user to this group.

Then I will change the group for any file/directory that needs 777 permission.But instead 775.
Again suggestions are appreciated

3-Final comparator should be server load; How will be the server performance(load) with or without suPHP or phpsuexec

Phpsuexec, Forum Uploads On IPB Not Working

Aug 12, 2007

We have a server that we just changed over to PHPSUEXEC. On this server, we have a large IPB (Invision Power Board) forum that we have not been able to get uploads in the forum back working again. Users are getting the message that they don't have permission, and to contact an administrator.

I have looked on IPB's forum for PHPSUEXEC related issues, but can't find a solution. Of couse, before phpsuexec the "upload" folder had 777 file permissions, but under phpsuexec this must be 755. It isn't working though.

Anyone had experience with this with IPB and know how to fix it?

Installing CentOS Manually

Jul 8, 2008

how to install CentOS by not using the installer. This guide should be great when installing over networks, don't have a graphical console available (for installing over serial), when you're not content with the installer's job, installing CentOS from another distro, or plainly want to learn more about how CentOS works.

Requirements:
* Have a host OS that has the "rpm" package manager available. Some distributions have it in their repositories (even if the package manager for the distro itself is not rpm), and knoppix (a linux live/rescue CD) has it aboard too. You can use the first CentOS ISO CD too (use linux rescue at boot), and it has all the necessairy packages aboard
* Access to the CentOS base repository. It's on the first CentOS ISO CD
* Use your BRAIN. This guide is ment to be interpreted, not copy/pasted

Code:
# First, setup your disks to your liking. You can use whatever you want here,
# RAID, LVM, etc... Remember your disk configuration because you'll need it
# to configure grub, menu.lst and fstab. Using RAID, LVM, or others will require
# more configuration than this guide covers. To keep it simple I'm using a
# single disk. An example:

$ fdisk /dev/sda
$ mount /dev/sda3 /target
$ mkdir /target/boot
$ mount /dev/sda1 /target/boot

# Depending on the host OS you're using, you may need to initialize the rpm db
# on the host OS
$ rpm --initdb

# Use the following command to install the packages. I'll be addressing this
# command as $rpm.

$ rpm --root /target -i

# Use your shell's tab completion to complete the package filenames. I
# deliberatly left out the versions so these instructions apply to a wide range
# of versions

# Let's install some basics
$rpm setup basesystem filesystem

# Install bash first, this is needed for post-install scripts
$rpm bash glibc glibc-common termcap libgcc tzdata mktemp libtermcap

# Install some dependencies (this is mainly to keep the next command smaller)
$rpm grep pcre libstdc++ info ncurses zlib gawk sed ethtool

# Install the bulk of the system
$rpm coreutils libselinux libacl libattr pam audit-libs cracklib-dicts
cracklib libsepol mcstrans libcap chkconfig python db4 openssl readline

net-tools module-init-tools e2fsprogs e2fsprogs-libs glib2 mingetty

# Install package manager
$rpm rpm beecrypt elfutils-libelf rpm-libs sqlite

# Install YUM
$rpm yum python-elementtree rpm-python yum-metadata-parser python-sqlite
expat libxml2 python-urlgrabber m2crypto python-iniparse

# You may also want to install your favorite editor
$rpm nano

# This provides /root with some defaults, like color highlighting on `ls`
$rpm rootfiles

# Right now you have system which you can chroot to, so we can start setting up
# the basics

# Mount directories for chroot operation
$ mount --bind /dev /target/dev
$ mount -t proc none /target/proc
$ mount -t sysfs none /target/sysfs
$ chroot /target

# This constructs /etc/shadow
$ pwconv

# Configure fstab
$ nano -w /etc/fstab

# Installing the kernel. Do this back outside the chroot in the host OS system
$ exit
$rpm kernel mkinitrd cpio device-mapper-multipath dmraid gzip kpartx lvm2 nash
tar less device-mapper-event

# Install the bootloader, grub.
$rpm grub diffutils redhat-logos

# Let's chroot again to configure our bootloader
$ chroot /target

# We start by configuring the bootloader. Open /boot/grub/menu.lst, and put the
# following there

<<<MENU.LST
timeout 5
default 0

# (0) CentOS
title CentOS
root (hd0,0)

# If this command gives an error, you can safely ignore this because it's not
# of importance. What is important is that grub-install copied the right files

Manually Force DNS Change

Jul 24, 2007

we're using a subdomain to point to one of our server's IP. (gaming purposes).

And people use this subdomain to connect to the game server.
However, We are going to move to a new server soon with a different IP.

I know, only thing I have to do is change the IP of the subdomain to point to the new server, however I know this will take like 1 to 48 hours to fully work.

Is there a way to force people who's still connecting to the OLD Ip to go to the new IP?
