Centos Install On Vmware It Keeps Stalling When Trying To Run Sendmail In The Bootup
Apr 28, 2009
I'm trying to boot up a centos install on vmware it keeps stalling when trying to run sendmail in the bootup. All I have access to is the grub command line. Is it possible to remove sendmail from startup using grub?

I've installed the latest version of sendmail to my CentOS 5 server and I need to know where the received e-mails will be stored for the user "tero" for example that has its directory at /home/tero.
I added that user with adduser -s /sbin/nologin tero.
/etc/mail/local-host-names
Has these kind of lines in it:
mydomain.com
mail.mydomain.com

My CentOS 5.1 server has no control panel.
I've executed the following commands on my server:
yum install sendmail
yum install sendmail-cf
I don't know what exactly they did so I need to know what more do I need to do to setup my server so that I can send and receive e-mail. What configuration files should I edit etc?
I'll also install vm-pop3d. At what point should I create e-mail accounts and how?

OKay here is the set up:
I have a CENTOS 64bit running, with 1 guest OS (WinXP) in a VMWare Server. I have tried the following: I have 6 public IP's attached to my 1 Ethernet card in the CENTOS host.
Try 1:
The Guest OS is set to use "Bridged" Networking. This allows full use of the internet, in both directions. Not exactly optimal, but it does work. I can reach the Guest via RD, which is a requirement for this client. The guest OS is mainly assigned one of the 6 public IP's (x.x.x.118). The problem with this setup is the Guest OS can not reach the host. For example the host has a mail server on it, and when the Guest tries to reach the host, it times out.
Try 2:
The Guest OS is set up to use "NAT" and gets 192.168.100.128 as its IP via DHCP inside of VMWare. The nat config file for VMWare is set to open port 3389 (RD port). Guest OS can reach the host with out any problem, and can reach the internet with out any problem, however I can not RD in to the Guest OS.
I prefer setup number 2 for all the obvious reasons, but I just can not get my IPTables rules to work. This is what I thought should work, but does not:
iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -d x.x.x.118 -j DNAT --to-destination=192.168.100.128
iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -s 192.168.100.128 -j SNAT --to-source=x.x.x.118
I realize that would have done all traffic, and defeated the benefits of NAT,but since forwarding only 3389 was not working I tried forwarding everything.
Any suggestions?

My host moved me from a UML VPS to a Virtuozzo VPS and I noticed that:
-My websites load slow at times, fast at times, and sometimes stalling
-FTP transfer is very slow and stalls
-Basically there are times when it loads instantly and times when it loads slow/stalls.
These are the sites:
www.imagewire.co.uk - Stalls when uploading image, sometimes doesn't even load up
www.smsmasters.co.uk - Stalls/slow to respond at times
The load average on the server is very low 0.01, 0.02, 0.0
So I'm guessing this is to do with something else but I'm not sure why. It's only just a few hours ago that I was assigned a new IP to my VPS server so could the general slowness be due to the DNS servers still updating?

I have installed Xen on my CentOS ded box, and now I'm trying to install a Guest OS, also CentOS using the following command:
Code:
virt-install -p --prompt -n CentOS2 -r 512 --file=/vm/centos.img --file-size=15 -l [url]
Now everything starts, I come to the network screen (right after the language selection), leave everything on default, it says it is trying to configure the network with DHCP for eth0 and then hangs there for a moment a does nothing.
How do I continue, how do I configure the network correcly.
I am just starting to learn Xen and would appreciate all the input I get.

i have a 32bit centos running with 8 gigs, but only 7 is registering when i contacted support they told me
Your server does in fact have 8GB of physical memory however the reason it is not being recognized is due to the fact that you are using a 32 bit operating system. By default, the 8GB would be recognized if it were a 64 bit OS however on a 32 bit operating system, you must install and boot into the PAE kernel (physical address extension) for the 8GB to be recognized and utilized. The PAE kernel can be installed through yum when connected to your server as root over SSH. Once you have installed the kernel, you will need to reboot the server for these changes to take effect
i tried
yum pae install
yum pae kernel install
both didnt work can anyone give me a quick step by step guide on how to go about this.

Is there any documentation on what to install for web server use? Is there a cheat sheet out there I can follow?

Been fooling around with red5 too long now. I really need this app to work so I can use the audio/video option on my chat.
I'm willing to pay the person who can make red5 work on my linux centos server. I allready installed ant & red5, the java is just a bit to tricky for me.
Like I said, I'm willing to pay a fee for the person who can make the red5 work.

Does anyone knows how the dedicated server's on hosting companies are customized or installed?

For example, I did not installed the GUI, just to mirror my a server setup.

I have been trying to get mod_rewrite to work on my CentOS server running the BQ.
Now what i need is to be allowed to use .htaccess files to use mod rewrite to allow me to use SEO urls.
Anyone know what needs to be done on CentOs, to be able to do it?
I have done the only instruction on Centos about it:
Quote:
# vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
FIND SECTION BEGINNING
<Directory "/var/www/html">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AND CHANGE
AllowOverride None
TO
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
SAVE FILE AND THEN
# service httpd restart
Although i still get the "500 Internal Server Error" message.
