I've bought an VPS recently but now I have a problem. It didn't come with yum installed so I need to install it on my own...
Now, I have a problem.
When I try to do:
Code:
# rpm -Uvh yum-3.2.19-18.el5.centos.noarch.rpm
This comes out:
Code:
warning: yum-3.2.19-18.el5.centos.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: N
OKEY, key ID e8562897
error: Failed dependencies:
yum-fastestmirror is needed by yum-3.2.19-18.el5.centos.noarch
So I suppose I need to install the yum-fastestmirror first.
But when I try:
Code:
# rpm -Uvh yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-13.el5.centos.noarch.
rpm
This comes out:
Code:
warning: yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-13.el5.centos.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DS
A signature: NOKEY, key ID e8562897
error: Failed dependencies:
yum >= 3.0 is needed by yum-fastestmirror-1.1.16-13.el5.centos.n

I'm wondering if anyone here has successfully used PHP 4 and 5 on CentOS 5 with cPanel.
I believe the OS does not have official RPMs for PHP4. Would I run into any problems if I use 3rd party RPMs?
[url]
I know it can be done, I'm just looking for any insight from someone who has tried it.

I am on a softlayer server with centos 4.x installed. I have a custom php 4.4.6 installed along with eaccelerator 0.95. This is what I need:
PHP 5 with:
zlib
jpeg
mysql
freetype
gd
my current configure string is:
'./configure'
'--with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs'
'--with-mysql'
'--enable-wddx'
'--with-ldap=shared'
'--with-mysql--enable-memory-limit'
'--enable-shmop'
'--enable-calendar'
'--enable-dbx'
'--enable-dio'
'--enable-mbstring'
'--with-zlib'
'--enable-exif'
'--with-gd=/usr/local'
I want to update to PHP5, but I want to make sure I have all the extras I need. I'm also worried that if I install PHP5 that eaccelerator will break. Will that need to be reinstalled?
Could someone walk me through this procedure? I can ask SoftLayer to upgrade PHP5, but I doubt they will touch eaccelerator.

I'm using Apache2, MySQL5, and PHP5 with CentOS4.6, cPanel 11.
When recompile Apache2 and PHP5 from WHM, there are no options for mbstring, so now my PHP5 doesn't has mbstring.
I tried to install mbstring as below, but I got this message:
Quote:
root@mybox [~]# yum install php-mbstring

I also tried:

Are there other ways to install mbstring for PHP5?

1) Download PHP 5.x and do the usual
cd /usr/local/src
[url]
2) Compile php as in a new directory such as /usr/local/php5
Use the same ./configure line required but with the following changes:
--prefix=/usr/local/php5 --exec-prefix=/usr/local/php5 --program-suffix=5 --enable-force-cgi-redirect --enable-discard-path
3) Compile and install
make
make install
IMP Steps :
cp php.ini-dist /usr/local/php5/lib/php.ini
cp /usr/local/php5/bin/php5 /usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5
chown root:wheel /usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php5
4) Edit httpd.conf and add lines below::
AddHandler application/x-http-php5 .php5
Action application/x-http-php5 /cgi-sys/php5
Just use .php5 and it will invoke php5.
# CGI configuration for PHP4
Action application/x-httpd-php4 /cgi-sys/php4
AddType application/x-httpd-php4 .php4 .php .php3 .php2 .phtml
# LibPHP5 configuration
LoadModule php5_module modules/libphp5.so
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php5

CentOS - I had php4 running and php5 as cgi but then decided I wanted to have it the other way around i.e. run php5 standard and php4 as cgi.
php5 is now running fine but php4 bombed with this error:
Code:
Unexpected character in input: '?' (ASCII=15) state=1 in /usr/local/cpanel/cgi-sys/php4
I fixed it by doing the following:
EDIT php.ini file:
Normally in /usr/local/php4/lib/php.ini
Under
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Paths and Directories ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
UNCOMMENT this line
Code:
;cgi.fix_pathinfo=0
(i.e. remove the ";" infront)
and
CHANGE 0 to 1:
Code:
cgi.fix_pathinfo=1
This is for Linux and must be done with root via SSH
Not sure if this will help anyone, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

I have installed Xen on my CentOS ded box, and now I'm trying to install a Guest OS, also CentOS using the following command:
Code:
virt-install -p --prompt -n CentOS2 -r 512 --file=/vm/centos.img --file-size=15 -l [url]
Now everything starts, I come to the network screen (right after the language selection), leave everything on default, it says it is trying to configure the network with DHCP for eth0 and then hangs there for a moment a does nothing.
How do I continue, how do I configure the network correcly.
I am just starting to learn Xen and would appreciate all the input I get.

i have a 32bit centos running with 8 gigs, but only 7 is registering when i contacted support they told me
Your server does in fact have 8GB of physical memory however the reason it is not being recognized is due to the fact that you are using a 32 bit operating system. By default, the 8GB would be recognized if it were a 64 bit OS however on a 32 bit operating system, you must install and boot into the PAE kernel (physical address extension) for the 8GB to be recognized and utilized. The PAE kernel can be installed through yum when connected to your server as root over SSH. Once you have installed the kernel, you will need to reboot the server for these changes to take effect
i tried
yum pae install
yum pae kernel install
both didnt work can anyone give me a quick step by step guide on how to go about this.

However, after extracting it, when I run the setup (./setupLinux_x64.bin -console) I get "Bundled JRE is not binary compatible with host OS/Arch or it is corrupt. Testing bundled JRE failed."
Can anyone give me the steps for installing 3dm2 on a centos/WHM box?
The card is a 3ware 9690SA.

I'm planning to rent a Dedicated Server soon, but before I would like to deploy my application to a VMWare appliance on my local machine.
The OS that i'm planning to use is CentOS 5.1
Does anyone knows how the dedicated server's on hosting companies are customized or installed?
I'm installing in on my machine, but there are many options to select.
For example, I did not installed the GUI, just to mirror my a server setup.
Any idea how is the best way to mirror a dedicated server installation, for learning purposes?
