Can I Make A Subdomain To Open With Www
May 26, 2009can i make my sub domain name to open with www..
ex: www.hosting.domain name.com
can i make my sub domain name to open with www..
ex: www.hosting.domain name.com
how can I make my subdomain secure?
I am using Ubuntu 8.10 with apache2 and I want to know how to make my subdomain secure? do I use virtual hosting or what?
I have an ecommerce store. dns at godaddy. A record www points to the 3dr party hosted shopping cart solution on ip a.a.a.a. I also have a blog. A record blog subdomain points to another server b on ip b.b.b.b hosted away from the shopping cart server a completely.
So www goes one place and blog goes to another.The problem is I need to somehow make the blog appear within the main site as URL...blog instead of as a subdomain blog.domain.com.
I cannot access or modify the hosted shopping cart server in any way. I cannot load wordpress there, that is why it is on a completely separate server.I've been told this is perhaps possible with a reverse proxy configuraton on server b where ip b.b.b.b is.So that even though blog. points to server b it can appear that the url is www.mydomain.com/blog and the blog pages off that directory as well.Can this be done via reverse proxy?
Wordpress installation (WPML with 3rd level domain es. site. com, fr. site. com).
I need to redirect page from subdomain to a new subdomain
Example:
esp.site.com/oldpage -> es.site.com/newpage (different subdomain)
esp.site.com/oldpage1 -> es.site.com/newpage
esp.site.com/oldpage2 -> es.site.com/newpage
Source site is very chaotic and there are no clear rule for redirection (no regex )
So I need to redirect every page but syntax:
Redirect 301 esp.site.com/oldpage http:// es.site.com/newpage
doesn't work!
which is the correct syntax ?
Can I manage all from one .htaccess file in main root (www) or should I create "esp" directory (and point old subdomain to it - one for every language) and put .htaccess in every directory with redirection ?
Is there a way to exploit openssl? someone came to me asking me for a job on hostparlor.com and i said no. They then uploaded a remote view script to exploit perl and gain access. I patched that. Then he again said that he can exploit through openssl. I thaught open ssl was security itself? He then told me that he can gain access through php sites to root? Is that possible? We have phpsafemode set to off because we run whmcs and it requires it to be off. He said he can hack us through that aswell. Is this guy just bluffing or can this seriously be done? Like i said this is why i have 2 server admins...

Any help is very much appreciated.
i would be interested in knowing like what would you prefer for your dedicated server? i.e Behind a firewall or on public network. Can anyone experienced provide pros and cons on this one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat is the purpose of making the switch. If i were to get "unlimited/umetered" shared hosting with cpanel, how is that different then getting a vps with cpanel?
Other then getting large amounts of traffic, what is the purpose?
I bought two Dell R200 because they was extremely cheap.
My target is Open Source SAN with active/passive setup.
Now i was wondering what RAID-level I should go for.
I will use 1TB SATA-II disks.
1) RAID-1 in both servers and mirror each other with DRBD.
With this setup i have like double RAID-1 so i lose lots of disk space.
4 disks -> 1TB
2) No-raid at all and i will mirror data with DRBD.
4 disks -> 2TB
Then there is change to go for RAID-5. Theres enough space to put third disk in that case
3) RAID-5 in both servers. Mirrors data with DRBD.
6 disks -> 2TB but more performance.
But in every setup i lose space more then i would like to.
Actually i dont need space more then 1TB, but i would like to get best possible redundancy and most space available i could.
Also need to remember that those servers does not support hot-plug HDs so in case there is disk-failure i need to be able to shutdown one server and iSCSI should still be up and running.
Of course theres change to make it active/active.
I was thinking that if I go for the RAID-5 I will make LVM-VG on both nodes (san-vg1 and san-vg2) and use it 50/50.
In case of fail both VG's will be used from working node.
Im going to use Debian Lenny I guess..
I was looking for OpenFiler because of the GUI, but im familiar with Debian and have always done everything from cmd.
i have a linux machine with centos5 64 bit. I have a firewall and would like to know how to open and close ports? I have tried several different things and cant seem to open a port?
Is there a command line i can use in ssh to open a port? Or is there something i can addon to cpanel to control ports?
My site has total 5GB data + MySQL database.
I tried make a fullbackup in cPanel but failed.
Then i tried create a zip file from folder but it's don't allow over 500MB a file.
How to make a backup now?
I was just wondering and searching for it but i couldnt find the estimated answer, anyone who have made one or operate one can answer me.

I'm trying to create a directory, "hello", so I log in via SSH and CD to /proc, as this is where I want the directory to be. I type, "mkdir hello" and I get the following;
mkdir: cannot create directory `hello': No such file or directory
I've searched around for the error, and I've found two mentioned problems;
Persmissions
Parent directory doesn't exist.
However, the parent directory; /proc does exist and it has the permissions 7777.
I've tried everything under the sun to try and close the open dns server issiue on my box but nothing seems to fix it.
Here' what my named.conf looks like...
----------------
controls {
inet 127.0.0.1 allow { localhost; } keys { "rndckey"; };
};
acl "trusted" {
1.2.3.4; 2.3.4.5; 127.0.0.1;
};
options {
directory "/var/named/";
allow-transfer { IP's that are allowed (slaves/master);
// query-source address * port 53;
version "not currently available";
allow-recursion { trusted; };
allow-notify { trusted; };
allow-transfer { trusted; };
};

an A/V kind of solution, that allows me to use my own custom signatures, etc. just wondered if such a thing existed.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to configure PHP, as I really need to turn magic quotes off and raise the memory limit. i don't want to use .htaccess - too many sites
I got plesk 8.2.1, php5.1
well, to make it short, I ran 'phpinfo()' to see where php.ini was: etc/php.ini
I change that, restart httpd, nothing happens. restart the server, nothing still. my changes are not applied when I run 'phpinfo()' again.
i try 'locate php.ini' from the terminal, there are a few!
/usr/local/psa/admin/conf/php.ini
/usr/local/psa/admin/conf/php.ini.def
/usr/local/sitebuilder/php.ini
/etc/php.ini
/etc/php.ini.
/etc/php.ini.saved_by_psa
/etc/php.ini.rpmsave
... plus some in the opt folder (that should be just the cache, uh?)
the problem is that I tried to open all of them, to see where the hell php was getting the settings from, but none of them seem to reflect php's settings.
meaning, I don't know what file I can use to configure PHP.
all of them, for instance, say 'memory_limit: 32M', but php is set at 8M, and phpinfo() tells me memory_limit 8M.
any idea why this might be happening?
does Plesk have some tool to configure PHP that makes PHP ignore my changes?
the data center tell me we use a lot of bandwidth,
and i check from the mrtg they offer to check,it reach about 80M,
my server really used a lot of bandwidth,
but i login whm to check the bandwidth of accounts,
and it looks likely my customers did not use a lot of bandwidth,
i worry if my server is hacked to attack others or other things,
how can i check this?
Is it possible to purchase a VPS, add MANY ips, to reverse DNS, and a cpanel, to make a shell reseller effect? Using the ips as vhosts, cpanel to setup other shell accounts etc?
Also, does anyone know of a provider who sells many cheap IPs with VPS's?
I created a (dv) account with Media Temple and my starting domain name becomes my name servers... Now they setup on there DNS server a reverse lookup for mydomain.com, but not for any of the domain names which go under it.
They won't setup a reverse lookup for any of your sub domains, unless they have a dedicated IP address, which costs $1.00 per month per IP address.
So what this means is say one of your sub-domains sends an email to myclient.com and it so happens that myclient.com like many other domains does a reverse lookup on incoming emails to verify its not spam, but since the reverse lookup doesn't exist, your sub domain gets an error message saying the email can't be delivered.
I emailed them and there first response was ....

I am looking for a opensource ftp client so I don't have to license a million computers with it. Any body have any good ones they can list?
View 14 Replies View RelatedBasically mysql is behaving very very intermittently. Crashes were every 4 hours, I've brought them down to once every 8 or so hours but mysql keeps dying.
the error log will show the same routine each time.
on mysql start:
Quote:
091101 21:58:03 [Warning] option 'open_files_limit': unsigned value 120000 adjusted to 65535
091101 21:58:03 [Warning] Could not increase number of max_open_files to more than 65535 (request: 200110)
091101 21:58:03 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: ready for connections.
Then we'll see errors due to crashed databases:
Quote:
091102 0:33:07 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Incorrect information in file: './<nameofdatabase.frm>'
following this a heap of:
Quote:
091102 0:36:35 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't open file: '>another database here.frm>
091102 0:36:36 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Sort aborted

091102 0:43:00 [ERROR] Error in accept: Too many open files
If your happy with your current hosting provider why change? Maybe you have found a better deal, but is it really worth it to switch to save a few bucks if your happy, I would say no.
What if you have noticed major changes in loading time?
What if there has been downtime?
What if they dont offer the support you need when you need it.
If a hosts changes prices on you?
What is the port used for OpenVZ VPS login?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like set backup for my vps in a specific way but it seem is not possible..
I would like set weekly backup for the whole vps accounts. This can be set easily by choosing "weekly" and by ticking Retention option Monthly..Like that daily and monthly backup will be not performed and only weekly backup will be done...well. Now I would like allow for some specific account more interval like also daily or also monthly or also daily and monthly...
This seem to be not possible under WHM....I see only the option to choose some specific account to make or not backups...but not to choose more interval..
So I must probably do that manually and set a cron job for the specific account I need but not see exactly how I must do..In fact am not very confident with SSH and I don't know exactly what code to type...
I've recently ordered two new servers with Windows OS, and am wondering how I go about making sure the hard drives I ordered are the ones actually installed, and the RAM i ordered is the ram actually installed.
I know the amount of ram and amount of diskspace is correct by Properties and My Computer but not sure how to figure out the others.
