CPanel Dedicated Server And 1GB RAM
Dec 14, 2008I'd like to ask if 1GB on a cPanel Dedicated Server is sufficent to run a starting up web hosting company? How many low-mid traffic sites ( for eg. blogs ) could it possibly handle?

View 11 RepliesI've had some people trying to sell me dedicated recently with cpanel for €30, unbelievable that too with core duo 2.ghz, 100mbps unmetered, 250 gb, ofcourse i said no but strangely they were offering cpanel with it. Now that is unbeilievable, when i asked what cpanel, they said they installed Cpanel VPS on it.
It was quite astonished there and they said it was common practice.
Of course i know it is scam but they actually showed me a screenshot..
Here I got a sshd issue, which confused me a lot. I just purchased a dedi yesterday.
cPanel11+WHM panel, Fedora7 system. When I use top -c to check the system, most of the times I would see four or five sshd processes "sshd: unknown [priv]" are running, and about 5 minutes later they will disappear.
Details can be viewed from this snapshot:

I am interested in the options to split a dedicated server so one might offer a selection of VPS containers and also a selection of cPanel packages.
Is there a free package that I can install on a Linux box to allocate resources for VPS alongside a cpanel/whm installation or would cpanel have to be installed on one of the vps containers?
What sort of response might I get if I split a box like this or should I have 2 seperate servers one with cpanel/whm and the other with a VPS splitting solution...
i just moved all cpanel backup from bluehost to my new dedicated server running cpanel. i restored the backup and i am getting page showing cpu exceeded error.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I offer cPanel to a dedicated server customer or any kind of CP?
I checked out cpanel.net and they have a "Rent or Buy licenses" and also "Purchase license" link. Those seem expensive. But how do the rest in the industry charge only $10 or even $5 for a cPanel install for dedicated server customers?
I can stay for a long long time, and thus building a strong server by upgrading whenever I have the spare cash to do so. What I'm thinking is a service where it's possible to buy more HD space, RAM or CPU by paying a ONE TIME fee.
Other requirerments is:
- It must come with cpanel/whm
- CentOS or linux OS
- I would prefer if the server is managed, and unmetered.
The server should of course be used for everything from having image host, to downloading via bitorrent. Obviously I'm looking for a host who doesn't put their nose into my business.
Budget: 100-150$

Is that as cheap as it gets? I dont need support. Any opinions or suggestions?
I have an account that is going from a shared hosting account to a dedicated with theplanet and I want to transfer it. Concerns I have is that the site is using an SSL. What things do I need to watch out for when transferring. Since I don't have root access I will have to do this transfer with the account function, correct?
This site has a database and SSL, so I thought it would hopefully be easier to use the cpanel account migration tool
What is the difference between Dedicated Virtual vs Regular Dedicated Server?
Also what are the pros and cons of going with Virtual?
to move from shared windows hosting to Dedicated windows hosting. This will be our first dedicated server and experience with dealing it too.
Someone suggested me Rackspace. But they were charging premium rates 440 USD for entry level windows server.
I am currently using a shared hosting but due to increasing traffic and server load my existing host is not able to provide reliable services and I am planning to upgrade my hosting service.
While I was searching for Dedicated Servers, I learnt about Virtual Dedicated Servers but I am not very sure about their reliability? Are Virtual Dedicated Servers useful? My website current serves over 2500-3000 visitors a day resulting in 30,000 pageviews and I am expecting the traffic to grow by atleast 2 folds in the next few months as I start some PPC campaigns and Email Marketing for my website. Can a Virtual Dedicated Server cater such needs assuming my website to be more of less dynamic website written in php?
I have Plesk 11.5 (service provider mode) on a Windows 2008 server IIS7.Most of my sites are developed in .asp and therefore i use a custom 500-100.asp error page that check s the IP of the visitor then displays either a friendly error, or if its my IP a full error of what has happened (it also emails me the error). This allows me to debug pages easily whilst developing and to keep an eye on anyone trying SQL Injection hacks on my sites (as the error and email also have session variables and IP address).I dont have root access to the server as it is a Webfusion dedicated server.I have following the Plesk documentation -
1) Switch on custom errors for the subscription
2) Look in virtual directories and navigate to error documents
3) Find the error in question (500:100) and change it to point at either a file or URL
FILE - I had the data centre add in the 500-100.asp error page in to the virtual template so that my page is available in the list of virtual files - this didn't work but that maybe because its not a static page??
URL - when i add the path it says its incorrect, if i add a fully qualified address, it accepts it but it doesn't work.give me a specific example of the URL that can be entered relative to the root as the format in the documentation isn't accepted. The last step is to restart IIS which is also an issue as i cant seem to do this from the Plesk panel..It is as if it isn't catching the 500:100 error, and only catching the general 500 error??

Spreading all the streams out, at anyone time we will have 300 viewers.
I need to know your advice on this before i go spending money.
How do i convert my dedi into a flash media server, i need red5 or something, thats all i know so far. My streamers wil be streaming to server with FME, And i also want it coded so that my streams can only be embedded on my site.
Basically i dont have a clue where to start, how long would it take me to set up etc....
In addition, what kind of server do i need, windows / linux / traffic / burstable / standard etc..

Is it possible to upgrade a kernel on a dedicated server? I have a dedicated at Server.lu.
I opened a ticket with them, it was open for about a month with no reply.
How can I tell if GRUB or LILO is on the server somewhere?
I'd like to know, how do you backup a cPanel dedicated server to a remote FTP server? WHM's backup only allows you to backup the client's accounts, but not the cPanel settings, or the stuff in /etc?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a a JAVA software developer and it happens that I need to configure a dedicated server running Win 2003.
It's already up and running with static IP address, however hosting offers a "Static IP Address", which doesn't really make sense, cause I already have one?
Other thing is domain name. Current domain name is registered with a different company and we don't really want to transfer it from that company. Can I get away with importing a domain name and changing MX records in the domain control panel?
Last thing is an email server. What do I need to set up an Email Server? I have a domain name with few POP3 email addresses. I thought about using hMail server for windows. What else do I need to do, pay for?
i want to know what is the difference between dedicated server and shared server. I was relaly confused in these services. Couls any one please let me know in detail about these servers?. I will be choosing one of these service.

I need to allow this 'virtual server', to host up to 10 domains, and for them to use their own nameservers, not the ones used on my dedicated server.
I have 2 IPs to spare, but I have no idea on how to do this.
Any help is much appreciated, or if you can guide me on where to get info on this.
i need this new reseller NOT to be identified with my own server (IPs)
I have a VPS with a few IP addresses in the pool. I am creating new users with a dedicated IP for each one.
Scenario: There is a user (call it john999) with an IP address assigned (different from the main shared IP). So, john999 has several scripts, one of them is mail();, another downloads some files from other servers etc.
Problem: When a script that belongs to john999 communicates to the other servers, they see the same IP address (I guess our main shared IP) that they would see if that script would belong to joss888 or root111.
Are there any settings (apache, bind, cpanel or smth) I can change so each user gets the full 'control' over its IP, is fully responsible for it and does not 'share' it with others?
All accounts are shared cPanel accounts.
I have started a website for guitar players that has achieved immense growth. In just 2.5 months I was getting more than 6'000 daily unique visiors and 25'000 daily pageviews. I was running this website on HostMonster and a week ago I started getting "CPU Exceeded Errors" several times a day, because the hosting wasn't capable of handling the load. In fact, I was getting so many errors that the website has been unavailable for 10% of time or something like that. GoogleBot obviously got tired of that and my number of visitors just collapsed.
So, I really need a decent hosting that could support at least 30'000 daily uniques or 3'000'000 monthly pageviews. What would you recommend, a VPS (Virtual Private Server) or a dedicated server?
I would love to be able to host multiple domains and to use cPanel and phpMyAdmin. Basically, I am looking for something similar to HostMonster service, but way more powerful. Could I get that for $50 - $100 per month?
Does anyone know a fast dedicated server with 160 or 200 gb with cPanel that cost around 50 dollars a month?
