I'd like to ask if 1GB on a cPanel Dedicated Server is sufficent to run a starting up web hosting company? How many low-mid traffic sites ( for eg. blogs ) could it possibly handle?

What Kind Of Website Can 1GB Ram Handle
I'm not quite sure how much of Ram I need for my vps, But I'm going to get 1GB Vps from wiredtree.com Anyone can tell me what kind of website I would be able to run on such an VPS? If it's just wordpress driven website... Maybe anyone can share how much traffic your site have and how much ram it's using? At the moment I have website with about 40k uniques/day and ~100k pageloads per day hosted on shared hosting but they have gave me 3days to find another hosting because they say I use to much of their traffic...

Mid-level (1GB RAM) VPS With Strong Support
My university runs a website to help students find rentals in the general area. We recently ran into some billing issues with our current VPS host, and we're trying to move to a new VPS. I have some experience finding cheap VPSs (I use Slicehost for a 256MB RAM VPS), but this one has different requirements. Our current VPS provides us with 1GB of RAM, and we don't want to go below this. Also, the VPS we use gives great tech support to my boss (who only knows the very basics about technology). We'd also strongly prefer a VPS that comes with Cpanel. Does anyone have any recommendations for other VPSs that meet these requirements?

RAM Usage: Dedicated Server Vs. VPS
I have never rented a dedi before but have used and continue to use VPS for my websites. With a hostinabox VPS with lxadmin control panel and apache for web serving I have seen idle ram usage at around 100MB. My question is am I going to see a similar amount if I move to a dedicated server ? I ask this because I remember reading somewhere that dedis have a higher RAM usage by the OS compared to VPS. So does a dedi at idle use more RAM than a VPS at idle?

Shared Hosting RAM Vs Virtual Private Server (VPS) RAM
I have a reseller shared hosting plan that allows for 50 sub-accounts and I'm using about 20. I am looking at getting a VPS with between 256 - 394 mb RAM and am wondering if I were to move all of my accounts to the new VPS would I be ending up with less RAM to use for all of my sites. To put this another way how do most reseller plans manage RAM usage? Do each of my sub-accounts have access to say 64 mb RAM so that if I were to use all 50 sub accounts I would have access to 50*64 mb. From what I've experienced and read with shared hosting my thought is I could end up with less access to server resources, CPU and RAM, with a VPS plan - though with VPS the resources are more guaranteed rather than being dependent on the usage of other accounts on the server. The reason I am looking at a VPS account is that I have a site that will likely have 1000s of users with a server intensive script (Moodle) and I know it would violate the reseller account agreement. So maybe my plan should be to keep the reseller account and use it for my database driven sites and use the VPS for the server intensive site and my html based sites. Also, my VPS choice seems to be narrowed down to Liquidweb, JaguarPC and Zone - has anybody heard of any negative experiences with Liquidweb? I can't find any.

I've had some people trying to sell me dedicated recently with cpanel for €30, unbelievable that too with core duo 2.ghz, 100mbps unmetered, 250 gb, ofcourse i said no but strangely they were offering cpanel with it. Now that is unbeilievable, when i asked what cpanel, they said they installed Cpanel VPS on it. It was quite astonished there and they said it was common practice. I can stay for a long long time, and thus building a strong server by upgrading whenever I have the spare cash to do so. What I'm thinking is a service where it's possible to buy more HD space, RAM or CPU by paying a ONE TIME fee. Hyper-V Dedicated RAM
I am currently in the search of a new windows 2008 vps with hyper-v, I noticed that most hosts offer "Guaranteed RAM" which is great, but I found another host which will ask you to pay an additional monthly fee to guarantee this ram, even on Hyper-v, I am curious to know if not getting this will affect performance of my VPS. We are looking for a 1GB RAM server since we only host around 6 websites with very small traffic, and only one of those has database connectivity, but still gets very low traffic. We will need to host DNS, IIS, Mail server to start, so, is 1 GB of ram ok for this and should we guarantee it?

I’ve been reading several posts about cpanel vs. directadmin and the difference in RAM usage. I understand that cpanel is a resource hog that uses more RAM... so here is my noob question... How and when does this have an impact on my site visitors? Meaning... 1. Does this ONLY have an impact on ME while I’m using the control panel? Or.. 2. I have a website which has about 20K users, and now I am using VPS plan at LunarPages. However, I have encountered a trouble of out-of-memory. Although I have configured my Apache and MySQL carefully, the 512M memory is not enough. Therefore, the users' expirence is not good these days because my site is very unstable. I contacted Lunarpages, asking them whether I can upgrade my VPS to bigger RAM, but they said the ONLY way to get a RAM bigger than 512M is to upgrade to dedicated hosting plan. CPanel Or DirectAdmin Using 8GB RAM
I'm trying to decide what panel to get, I've used cPanel and DirectAdmin before so trying to figure out which is best suited for me. Obviously cPanel has more features but uses more ram. Do I really need all the features of cPanel or can I get by using DirectAdmin? The server I'm going to get will have 8GB RAM so does it matter that cPanel uses more memory because there is so much ram anyway?

I have read that cPanel consumes a constant 258MB of RAM. That seems like a huge overhead for the convenience it provides. Plesk consumes less? How much? Which Would Be Faster? Ram = 128 With DirectAdmin Or 256 With Cpanel
I have heard that Direct Admin is much faster then cpanel & require much less resources then cpanel... I was just wondering if I get vps with 128 ram with Direct admin on it, would it be better than vps with 256 ram with cpanel installed... I am running 3 websites with almost 10 to 20 users at a time (at max 50).... I like both cpanel & directadmin but was thinking if 128 ram with DirectAdmin can give more speed on 128 then I won't spend more money on 256 with cpanel... MySQL Optimization, Intel E8300, 8Gb RAM, CPanel
I'm trying to optimize a server (Intel E8300) with 8Gb of RAM and WHM/cPanel administration panel. Now the server has only 46 accounts in WHM, and about 10.000 unique visitors / day As mysql is always on top for CPU ussage I have edited 2 values in my.cnf, but this was done in 10 minutes and not to much research, any more help will be appreciated. On this server as I see it's been using MyISAM for storage engine and maybe just a few tabels with InnoDB ....

I tried to put as much as possible into the title I've had asmallorange for like 6 years now, was great host but lately uptime seemed to suffer a bit. Searching for some new one to try. Could You recommend a cheap less than $5/mo shared hosting? What I need: highest uptime available, 99.8 or above would be great use more than 10 websites with them, addon domains feature. bandwidth above 1 gig, maybe above 5, not sure. support doesn't matter that much, cause I almost never ned to contact them, lol another thing I'd prefer is to use company's details in WHOIS info - that's really kind of important. UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

Windows: 2GB Physical Memory - 1.2GB Used - 1.1GB Page File Usage : Normal
I have a Windows 2003 server with 2GB ram running IIS and SQL 2005 express. I noticed that the server only uses around 1.2GB of its physical memory (been a few days) while page file usage seems high at 1.1GB. SQL server has been allocated a maximum 1GB of memory while IIS has no limitations on memory usage. Server doesn't really show any slowness at this point (not a lot of traffic). But to my understanding other than the proccesses that always use some virtual memory (around 400mb usually), page file should be only used when there is insufficient physical memory? So is there something wrong with my memory usage, 1.1GB on page file while there are still almost 50% available physical ram?

Dedicated IP(cPanel)
I have a VPS with a few IP addresses in the pool. I am creating new users with a dedicated IP for each one. Scenario: There is a user (call it john999) with an IP address assigned (different from the main shared IP). So, john999 has several scripts, one of them is mail();, another downloads some files from other servers etc. Problem: When a script that belongs to john999 communicates to the other servers, they see the same IP address (I guess our main shared IP) that they would see if that script would belong to joss888 or root111. Are there any settings (apache, bind, cpanel or smth) I can change so each user gets the full 'control' over its IP, is fully responsible for it and does not 'share' it with others? All accounts are shared cPanel accounts.

I have created many addon domains in my cpanel account. I have 2 websites which require SSL certificates and hence they will have dedicated ip each (i.e. total 2). But is it possible to assign 1 dedicated ip to my cpanel account website and another dedicated ip to the addon domain website. Is it possible. I feel that it is not possible. Also can't my 2 websites with separate SSL certificates share the same Dedicated IP of my cpanel account.

Server Has 7 GBs Of Free RAM
Current server has 4 GB ram, all buffered by linux. Code: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 4054 3917 137 0 99 2139 -/+ buffers/cache: 1678 2375 Swap: 4094 0 4094 The buffer has 2375 MB of free ram. However this is a heavy mysql server. I want the empty ram be used by mysql so it becomes faster. We are currently moving to a 8GB ram server, and the free ram will be around 7 GB if we use the exact same configuration. I want the free ram to be 1 GB at most, why pay for 8 GB ram if I'm going to use a fraction of it? What optimizations should I attempt? I know about harddisk I/O bottlenecks, I have two SATA drives in the system, and a SAS drive dedicated to mysql, that's all we can afford currently. All mysql databases are for SMF forums, and currently using MyISAM tables. Switching to another storage engine is a possibility, if it won't create problems in restarts and hot backups.

Subversion Server RAM Usage
I have a low traffic VPS, with fairly limited resources (most notably only 256mb RAM). This runs fine for what's currently being hosted - one low traffic site (with 1-10 users on at any time, usually 2 or 3), and several other essentially dead sites. Everything runs smoothly, and generally RAM usage remains below the 200mb mark. However, I've been contempating setting up a Subversion server on the same VPS, and I'm unsure if this will top it over the limit. Does anyone here have any experience running a SVN server? How memory hungry is it? If I do set this up, it won't be very active, with a couple of checkouts a day, and a max of 2 or 3 users connecting at any one point, more often than not no one will be connected. Can I do this with the resource limitations listed above, or should I start looking at alternatives?

VPS Or Dedicated Hosting With CPanel
I have started a website for guitar players that has achieved immense growth. In just 2.5 months I was getting more than 6'000 daily unique visiors and 25'000 daily pageviews. I was running this website on HostMonster and a week ago I started getting "CPU Exceeded Errors" several times a day, because the hosting wasn't capable of handling the load. In fact, I was getting so many errors that the website has been unavailable for 10% of time or something like that. GoogleBot obviously got tired of that and my number of visitors just collapsed. So, I really need a decent hosting that could support at least 30'000 daily uniques or 3'000'000 monthly pageviews. What would you recommend, a VPS (Virtual Private Server) or a dedicated server? I would love to be able to host multiple domains and to use cPanel and phpMyAdmin. Basically, I am looking for something similar to HostMonster service, but way more powerful. Could I get that for $50 - $100 per month?

More RAM Or CPU Power For The Database Server
Given the choice which is more beneficial. Some of the things I've read say Database servers use up more RAM and others say they use up more CPU power. I'm just not sure. Also, what HDD should be used for the database server? I have a choice for SATA or SAS. Some benchmarks are showing SATA as faster I believe, but that SAS is more reliable? Can anyone comment intelligently regarding that as well?

I have a VPS. And have had an issue both when it was 1Gig and now I recently downgraded it to 768m, because I am moving some sites to a dedicated. However, the part I am having trouble grasping is that when I look at graphs from Munin, it will typically always show 200-400MB free memory (and free -m and top agrees with munin), but Munin shows 'committed' memory that is above the total Ram on the VPS and once the 'committed' ram exceeds the VPS limit, processes start failing. So, why is 'committed' memory exceeding the RAM on my VPS, when Munin, free -m and top all show there is free memory available?
