Binding IP Address For Different Sites And Reverse IP

I am having the hardest time binding my domain name to my Apache server. If I use the IP address, I can access it just fine even outside of my network. But when I try to bind my domain name to that exact same IP address it just does not work.
I am running Apache 2.0.64 on Windows 8 and my domain name is registered at Name.com. I have contacted them to and I am awaiting a response but they are really backlogged right now and I thought it wouldn't hurt to post here as well. Besides, I thought it might have something to do with my Apache config file anyways and I wanted to make sure.
I had a site with admo.net. To my surprise the name registration was done in their name and not mine so domain name cannot be taken with you. When your hosting date expires the domain was directed the day it expired to a porn site without a renewal notice or warning. It was not until after I requested the name only renewal that a renewal email arrived. The date on the renewal was marked due over 10 days after it had already expired. In the mean time all the visitors looking for me were directed to porn links.

My /etc/apache/httpd.conf has port 80, but no mention of 443 anywhere, yet netstat reveals it binding to port 443
I have apache 1.3.29.0.2-5 on Debian Linux (knoppix)
My customer has an external facing Apache server that is acting as a reverse proxy to two internal applications. They have:
- external addresses for each app which resolve to different ip addresses, so app1.their_domain.com and app2.their_domain.com resolve to 77.3.170.10 and 77.3.170.11 respectively.
- the Apache server has two network interfaces with ip addresses 192.168.10.10 and 192.168.10.11
- the external ip addresses resolve to the above internal addresses
- the firewall between the Apache server and the internal app servers is configured to allow traffic from 192.168.10.10 to reach app_server1, and traffic from 192.168.10.11 to reach app_server2, both using port 7777.
I have configured a virtual host in httpd.conf for each ip, i.e.
Code:
<VirtualHost 192.168.10.10:80>
...
ProxyPass /app http://app_server1:7777/app
ProxyPassReverse /app http://app_server1:7777/app
RewriteRule ^/$ /app/app1 [R,L]
...
<VirtualHost>
and
Code:
<VirtualHost 192.168.10.11:80>
...
ProxyPass /app http://app_server2:7777/app
ProxyPassReverse /app http://app_server2:7777/app
RewriteRule ^/$ /app/app2 [R,L]
...
<VirtualHost>
This works fine in that the external address are being routed to the correct application, however the firewall is blocking requests to the second app as it appears the requests are coming from the Apache servers 'primary' ip address 192.168.10.10 instead of 192.168.10.11.
Is it possible to send requests using the ip address from the relevant VirtualHost?
Windows server 2008
Apache 2.2
I am using virtuozzo firewall to secure access.
I enter 58.27.175.211/255.255.255.0 for Source Address and Netmask for port 22.
But still I can connect using 58.181.103.217 or 58.27.151.120.
Second is it possible to enter two different ip address in source address?
I just bought a new ip address and want to setup this new ip as my server's main ip, making the 'existing main ip' as the secondary ip.
Which means, this new ip will be the server's default ip address for all services, including when connecting to other server.
I'm using CentOs 4.5 and swsoft's panels: HSPcomplete & Virtuozzo Power Panel, and Webmin.
I want to redirect a website to a particular URL so that the address bar shows the same URL and not the destination URL. I know it is possible via URL masking, however, I want it in such a way that whenever somebody clicks on any link in the website, the address bar should still show the original URL. To put it in simple words, Suppose I want to redirect [url] to [url]. Now if there is a link named contact/index.htm and somebody clicks on it the address bar should display [url]and not redirect to [url]
How can it be possible using URL Rewrite method in .htaccess file?
The problem usually goes like this:
- I can't access the webserver
- I'll try to restart httpd, and I'll get
Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:443
To fix this, I run
[root@www1 ~]# lsof -i tcp:443
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
perl 11307 apache 4u IPv6 476943447 TCP *:https (LISTEN)
There is always leftover process that is causing the restart to fail. Once i force kill the process, I am able to restart httpd properly.
Now it is ok if this just occurs once in a while, but this problem keeps repeating itself almost everyday at 4am server time (cron time?). What can I do to permanently fix this?
is this the proper forum to ask for help with a reverse DNS issue on my co-located server?
View 12 Replies View Relatedi have a dedicated server with 2 ips and i am planning to run a nameserver, mailserver and webserver on the same server. i heard that reverse dns is important. how do i do that?
My questions are...
1. will it work if i setup the reverse zone in my server? or should i ask my host to setup reverse ip for me?
2. Do i have to setup reverse entry to mailserver or domain or nameserver? which is important to have reverse ip.
i had some problem with my smtp server because of my PTR record
i create a new reverse zone and add a ptr record point to my mail.domain.com from my ip(38.100.214.200)
but when i check it from online tools, all of them except zoneedit.com say me that my server has no ptr record.
I'm with a German (dedicated server) Provider and have the ability to personalize the Reverse DNS settings through their CP.
No US provider had allowed me this setting before, so I'm clueless about it. Whats Reverse DNS, what if I change the current setting to like - rdns.mydomain.com? Whats the use?
some clarification with regards to Reverse DNS.
An example ip: xx.xxx.xxx.xx is owned by A Company via a DC. The they have their name allocated to the netname and description when i look up their ip address.
I have my ip xx.xxx.xxx.xx this is me and it currently contains my DC's name throughout when i look it up as the description and netname...
Both are from the same DC however the other company has their name allocated to the ip address and i would like to do the same. Does this require Reverse DNS? It dosent involve domains surely does it?
if my main site hosted in usa and reverse proxy server located in UK or Canada. will my site load still quickly or be slow dramtically? both use linux and apache. or canada user will quickly load my site or still slow? how about usa customers?

View 12 Replies View RelatedWe recently decided to move all our DNS to a service called DNS Made Easy and also our sever box. We setup what they call Vanity DNS with ns0.domain.com and ns1.domain.com so our clients did not have to change their nameservers.
Our records for all domains are now setup and looks like they are beginning to propagate. Here's where the question is:
IP - 1.1.1.1 is for domain1
IP - 1.1.1.2 is for domain2, domain3 and domain4
IP - 1.1.1.3 is for domain5
All domains have MX records pointing to a either Google or Mailtrust.
what is the best way to setup Reverse DNS and PTR's for this setup and what should we ask our ISP to do for Reverse DNS in this case.
if I do a reverse lookup on my server's IP it returns a host assigned by the data center. So is this something I should even be managing too or is that always left up to the DC? I run my own DNS for the forward lookup zones.
Also just a technical question, when you do a reverse lookup, how does it know where to look to get the host? I'm not sure I fully understand how these work.
what are the techniques used to find out the domains pointing to a particular IP?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble pinning down exactly what I am doing wrong with reverse DNS at HE.net on a /27 subnet.
Example host:
65.19.156.29
master1.ipcoast.net
It looks to me like HE.net has properly deligated the subnet:
# dig -x 65.19.156.29 @ns1.he.net.
;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
subnet0.156.19.65.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN NS ns2.ipcoast.net.
subnet0.156.19.65.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN NS ns1.ipcoast.net.
And I have the zone file on both of those servers. But still won't resolve from outside coming in.
I researched a few options and have come to this conclusion use Ultramonkey (LVS + HA Proxy) -> apache2 mod_php/ mod_python (serve php / python)
-> lighttpd (serve static files)
-> mongrel (ruby server)
I have a VPS with the hostname myhost.domain.com, with four IP addresses, one of which is assigned to a shared hosting account (using WHM/cPanel) at sub.domain.com.
For email delivery purposes (I'm sending e-commerce receipts (that MUST be delivered) from PHP apps running on sub.domain.com), do I need to set up reverse DNS entries that say their IP addresses belong to myhost.domain.com, or to sub.domain.com?
I am trying to do Reverse DNS and PTR of my server, but it the documentation from cpanel.I followed the Documentation till Editing the Reverse DNS Zone from here. URL... My Server has IPv4, the problem is the First and the Third Step, and in that result image shown on cpanel site, it has shown like 1 , 2 ,3 so Do i have to write their 123 in even in my cpanel or write the IP or reverse IP.

Does deploying a reverse proxy in front of the web/db server reduce the threat of SQL injection?
Emphasis on 'reduce' the threat - or does it provide no help at all?
I have a mobile email application (for Zimbra) that is not compatible with HTTPS, only with HTTP.
Is it possible to configure a Reverse Proxy so I can bypass the SSL? Something like this:
[url]<-> REVERSE PROXY <-> [url]
I was able to configure a Reverse Proxy but when it comes to https, something does wrong! here is my vhost config:
Quote:
NameVirtualHost mail.domain.com:*
<VirtualHost *>
ServerName mail
ServerAlias mail.domain.com
ProxyPreserveHost On
ProxyVia full
SSLProxyEngine On
ProxyRequests On
<proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</proxy>
ProxyPass / https://mail.domain.com/
ProxyPassReverse / https://mail.domain.com/
</VirtualHost>
I have all mod_proxy modules (and its sub-mods) load. If this is possible to achieve, I think it's only a manner of configuration lamess.
Have someone configured anything like this before?
