Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Webmail Horde - Showing Wrong Time

Jul 11, 2014

I have a problem with webmail (horde). Horde Webmail show the wrong time, 2 hours to late. It look like that horde show the UTC time, but not the CEST "Europe/Berlin" of my server. I can change that over "preferences" -> "global preferences" -> "locale and time" and change "Your current time zone" from "Default" to "Europe/Berlin". This will now show the correct time (timezone), but this is not the solution because this will do all webmail users.

How can i change the default timezone in Horde?

Output from shell

#my timezone and this will show in all things but not in webmail horde
[root@www /]# date
Fr 11. Jul 17:32:14 CEST 2014

#this time look like the default time in horde
[root@www /]# date -u
Fr 11. Jul 15:33:31 UTC 2014

Squirrelmail: Email Arrives With Different Time Than Server Time

Nov 11, 2008

This is a rare issue i have on a RHEL 5.2 + cPanel server.

Server time is:

Tue Nov 11 17:02:51 CST 2008
Squirrelmail time show:
Code:
Last Refresh:
Tue, 5:02 pm

So, that is correct too..

But email arrives with -4 hours time, example:

webmaster@xxx.com 1:03 pm testing email

I already rebooted httpd, exim, and imap server, and the server itself too.. and problem stills.

DedicatedBox.net Disconnect Server Before Due Date

Jun 27, 2008

I have a server with DedicatedBox.net. My billing cycle is 26th every month, but they always disconnect my server if I don't make payment before 22th or 23th. I complained to them by email, their helpdesk and WHT PM. They did response to me, but can't have the issue resolved.

In this month, I forgot to pay in advance. They disconnected my server on 23th as always. I sent a ticket #499717 and nobody responses to me. Whether they disappear or just ignore me, it's a warning to me, so I decided to leave them. Luckily I have a backup for all my data.

This is my bad experience with DedicatedBox.net.

Server Response Time :: Network Time Out

Sep 25, 2008

I can't get access to a certain site. I always get the page with:

network time out - server at *** takes to long to respons. More people have noticed this and apparently it only happens to people with certain specific providers. And not all the time. Some times they DO get access eventy to they belong to the same ISP. So I guess an ISP isn't blocking access to it otherwise it would be permenantly/The site administrator insists that certain ISP's are blocking his site. He's hosting it on his own server. The domain belongs is registered at namecheap.com.

If an ISP is blocking this site (if that's possible?), that would lead to that 'network timeout' page wouldn't it?

What is the most likely reason for getting a timeout page anyway?

Apache :: Server Going Down From Time To Time

Feb 6, 2013

The server is going down from time to time, every 12 days or so the site hosted there is no longer accesible, everything starts with the site slowing don and down and then is not longer reachable, what we do is to request a power cycle, and with this we start all over again till next power cycle, so on so on, of course, here are my server details and more info on this:

- MySQL - 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10
- Apache - 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.4
- PHP - 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9
- operating system: Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS

After some time emailing the support guys to barely check about what's going on, we received an email with a few things:

1.- found a few errors that likely would cause issues with Apache. The first error is:
[Mon Feb 04 05:03:10 2013] [error] mod_fcgid: fcgid process manager died, restarting the server and the next error is:
[Mon Feb 04 14:32:34 2013] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting ...

Both these errors seem to indicate that you have a process that is running out of control on your server. We were unable to determine what script on your site is running caused your connections to be maxed out however it does appear that before these errors were generated there was a WordPress plugin referenced in your access logs...

2.- Additionally during our review we did find that your error log for mercadodedinerousa.com is 45 GB's which is excessively large and can cause problems when Apache is trying to write a such a large file.

3.- The majority of the errors being logged are:
[Wed Feb 06 12:12:31 2013] [error] [client 200.76.90.5] Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden: /var/www/vhosts/mercadodedinerousa.com/httpdocs/index.pl, referer: [URL]

WHM: Domain Name Server (DNS) Sometimes Resolves To Wrong IP

Jun 3, 2009

I have a dedicated WHM server (qumbia.org) with several CPanel accounts, among them:

- qumibiao (qumbia.org).
- qumbiaca (qumbia.ca).

Both of these accounts were set to the same ip (70.86.221.122).

15 days ago, I changed qumbiaca to the ip 70.86.221.123

Since, some requests (about 1% of the total according to my logs) for qumbia.ca are still serving up what's in /home/qumbiao/public_html

I know next to nothing about this, but perhaps some ISPs have cached the 70.86.221.122 IP and are directing requests there? Still, why wouldn't WHM, upon receiving such a request, resolve it to the right address, it being on the same server?

My Time to live record is set to 24 hours on my DNS, and the expire header set to 41 days.

Might it be a good idea to set up a new DNS (NS3.QUMBIA.ORG) on my WHM and give that DNS to qumbia.ca? Would this force the ISPs to reset their cache? Or does the problem lie elsewhere? Should I just wait out the 41-day expire period and hope for the best?

Bought Private Domain Name Server (DNS) To Prevent Hotmail Bouncing...am I Wrong?

May 12, 2009

While I am used to reselling and domain registration stuff, I am totally new to DNS stuff..I tried many searches and readings without hope.
that's why I need your help.

We have a problem that makes both incoming and outgoing emails from our website's email server not going or received, without any failure message or error message on both sides: the sender and receiver.

We talked to our webhosting company- they do not own, but host on a dedicated provided by Iweb in Canada - and they told us a quick solution for this:

To buy a private IP address, therefore our websites with them will not get blocked as spammy IP, setting us away from the dozens of sites they have on the same server IP (as domaintools reverse IP reported: xx other sites hosted on this server).

The company I work for agreed on this solution immediately as we are loosing customers for this problem.

They charged us 8$ a month for this "private ip".

We had the same problem for another day after their solution, when I checked domaintools, I found our websites are still on the same IP of the company. I called them, and the Admin there told me: it's a hidden CNAME setting that is not shown to public because it's "private" and the delay happenned because we had to contact Hotmail staff and wait for their reply to include it in their safe list, but others as Gmail and Yahoo do not require contacting them and will go through automatically."

My question is:

- What is Private IP/ Private DNS?
- Why and how it is used to prevent false blocking/bouncing?
- Does that mean they had to sell it to every domain, while their IP is not on blacklists (I checked it).
- Is Private IP just an internal setting or it has to be bought from a large ISP
like regular/public IPs? and if just some settings, is this price fair? we pay 120$ annually for hosting one site with them.
- They told us they put our other two sites on theis same new private IP. How can this be possible?
- I cannot understand: Hotmail can prevent our emails from reaching inboxes, but can it also prevent its users emails from reaching us?? Is this issue a Private-IP related??
- What do you think the real problem is, and what advice(s) should I follow to have our emails going and coming smoothly in the future?

Note: We don't send unsolicited emails ever. We only have a 1500-member mailinglist that we send a newsletter to, once every few months.

Our daily email traffic is about 10 to 20 messages in and out.

How Do I Keep An Up-to-date Backup

How do I do this? I've heard of rsync, but I don't know what it is or how it works.

Changing Date On A VPS

Aug 27, 2007

to change system date back and forth.

Of course 'date -s' doesn't work on VPS. Using zic and timezones > /etc/localtime could help up to (almost) 24 hours, but dates are out of range.

Some systems can enable something like defying "Time Drift" as on some Xen versions (as shown below), but unfortunately my provider apparently doesn't support it.

# set independent_wallclock
# echo 1 > /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock

Is there any other way to change date on a VPS?

DNS Poisoning - Is Your Bind Up To Date

Jul 9, 2008

Vendors form alliance to fix DNS poisoning flaw

An alliance of software makers and network-hardware vendors announced on Tuesday that they had banded together to fix a fundamental flaw in the design of the internet's address system.

The vulnerability in the domain name system (DNS) - the distributed database that matches a host and domain name with the numerical address of a computer server - could give an attacker the ability to replace the addresses of popular websites with that of a malicious server, said Dan Kaminsky, director of penetration testing for security firm IOActive. Kaminsky found the flaw when he was doing non-security research on the domain name system (DNS) more than six months ago.

"It is a fundamental issue affecting the design," Kaminsky said. "Because the system is behaving exactly like it is supposed to behave, the same bug will show up in vendor after vendor after vendor. This one bug affected not just Microsoft ... not just Cisco, but everyone."

On Tuesday, a number of software and network-hardware vendors released patches for their products. On its regularly scheduled patch day, Microsoft released updates for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 to mitigate the issue, which the company ranked an important vulnerability, its second highest grade of severity. Internet Software Consortium, the group responsible for the development of the popular Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) server, also released a patch, confirming that its software contained the vulnerability. Both Cisco and Juniper also acknowledged flawed systems.

Vendors have also provided the fix to certain large clients. Yahoo will be upgrading its name servers from BIND 8 to the latest version of BIND 9, the Internet Software Consortium stated during the conference call. Internet service provider Comcast has already patched its servers for the issue, according to internet infrastructure firm Nominum. Finally, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Coordination Center has contacted some other nation's response groups to inform them of the problem.

For the most part, however, internet service providers and companies each received the fix on Tuesday, said Sandy Wilbourn, vice president of engineering at Nominum. The goal: To have every major service provider and company apply their software patches in 30 days.

For that reason, don't expect immediate action, Wilbourn said.

"For key customers on our network, we have made a special effort to get them an early release to help solve this problem, and a number of them have finished deployment," he said. "But the nature of this patch is that we wanted to get the vendor side covered and then have deployment over the next 30 days. Anyone that is not patched by today or tomorrow is not doing anything wrong."

The domain-name system (DNS) has been a popular way to attack the internet in the past - it's an ill-kept secret that the DNS system is insecure. The way that many software applications, such as browsers, handle DNS requests has opened up users to attack. Microsoft has fixed a few vulnerabilities in the way Windows handles domain names - issues that could have lead to easier eavesdropping or simpler phishing attacks.

Changing System Date

Nov 8, 2007

We have a server located in USA. We have hosted an application for online booking of travel tickets. The customer wanted to change the system date to IST instead of EDT which we did. Now, if we try to change the system date to a future date in order to test our application, the date automatically resets to the current date. This happens only if we have the timezone as IST. If we change the system date to EDT, then after changing the system date, it does not reset automatically. It changes only if we modify it manually. However, if we change the timezone to IST, then the system date resets automatically back to the current date. We have stopped the W32 Time service and also blocked the port 123. We have also disabled the automatic synchronization with the internet time server.
