I am looking for a reliable managed VPS host which has servers/or is based in the UK. I am transferring a high traffic site, and I'm looking for recommendations for a host offering the following:
-Managed VPS
-Reliable servers
-Good support, with native English language staff
-U.K. based data center
Any suggestions for hosts would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone had experience with clustered.net as I have seen they have a package?
I have a client who is looking for a normal hosting which allows him have his own ns1.blabla.com ns2.blabla.com Does such host exist?

Being a VPS my needs are middle of the road. .5-1 gig of ram 10-50 Gigs of space.
I have a VPS plan with DirectAdmin and 3 IPs and I wanted to setup private nameservers for two reseller accounts on my plan.
I have the first IP assigned to the server and the other two as the nameservers for my vps.
So with no free IPs, how would I setup private nameservers for my two reseller accounts? Add six IPs (one for each account and two for nameservers for each) or is there a way to use the three I have to setup my resellers?
I have a dedicated server running WHM 11 Accelerated/ Cpanel
Main IP: 111.11.111.11
DNS1: 222.22.222.22
DNS2: 333.33.333.33
I will be hosting/ building my own sites on the box so I want to assign
each site dedicated IP and custom nameservers.
I have created a base package, now I have managed to create the setup
I want 2 different ways what I need to know is am I right/ wrong, which one
is the best way and if there is a better way.
I create an account in WHM, click the reseller option while doing so with
dedicated IP. So now I have a cpanel/reseller account with
DNS Zone: [url]/ Dedicated IP: 444.44.444.44
In WHM I click DNS Zone / Add a DNS Zone
Add IP: 555.55.555.55
Add DNS A Zone 1 ns1.[url]
Select Reseller
Save
Add IP: 666.66.666.66
Add DNS A Zone 2 ns2.[url]
Select Reseller
Save
now I have 3 zones & 3 IP
[url]- 444.44.444.44
[url]- 555.55.555.55
[url]- 666.66.666.66
The second way I do it is to use the cpanel accounts IP as 1 of the nameservers and end up like this:
now I have 3 zones & 2 IP
[url] - 444.44.444.44
[url]- 444.44.444.44
[url]- 555.55.555.55

I was reading Ross's article on DNS Hosting and was curious to see feedback from others who utilize these services.
We're an UltraDNS customer - Ross refers to them as the ferrari of DNS hosting, which I agree. We've been with them a few years now and I'll admit that we pay a very pretty penny for them to manage our DNS for a few of our larger sites. On the flip side, we've never once had a DNS issue and their support, when we've needed to engage them, has been outstanding.
Are most folks just using their control panel's DNS interface, or is there are larger contigent who are outsourcing their DNS management?
I work for a small services company with a non-server or bandwith intensive that needs a UK based managed VPS with telephone support and excellent levels of support (we are not technical) and great uptime. We aren't that price sensitive, but just don't want to go up to the Rackspace £200 a month type levels of costs. We basically want a Rackspace for VPS's, if you know wnat I mean?
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow the hosting provider would back me up in setting up my vps, support in additional issues etc. with regards each of the above topics.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently with the planet and am happy with them, however as part of a new venture I need to gather a list of hosts as well as the planet that will be able to cater to the ventures needs and go to tender with the requirements.
ThePlanet offer something called a virtual rack. This is cheaper than renting a dedicated rack, allows for Gb networking but doesnt not allow for a SAN. Do other providers offer something similar? The cost of putting a machine on the virtual rack is not that much more expensive than just renting the machine. I guess there isn't too much to these set-ups to be fair.
If not, then we are looking for dedicated racks, with the ability to host a SAN at some point, but starting off with say 3 servers (2 web servers, 1 storage server with raid5 6Tb of hdd). These servers will be dealing with network cameras although I don't think that many will be streaming at once but the network capacity does need to be there.
Who's door should I be knocking on to find out some prices?
One final thing, should I bother looking for co-lo providers as well? We are in the Uk but not precious about our host being in the same country at all (it would be nice but uk prices are ££). Really, all we would be able to do with co-lo is buy the hardware outright to save price as we are not interested in looking after the hardware.
I am considering moving to dedicated server, what are risks with self managed server compared to managed?
Managed servers are very expensive for my needs.
Will the nameservers work if the nameservers are pointed to a parking page?
For example:
I need to change my nameservers to ns1.mywebhost.com and ns2.mywebhost.com
(nameservers are made up)
These nameservers are from my web hosting service provider. When I visit the nameservers, it shows up a parking page from a domain parking service (let's say NameDrive parking page)
Will the nameservers function correctly and will my websites work? I have this question because usually the nameservers that I use, they always point to a CP page or something like that rather than a parking page.
When a colo vendor can consider themselves as a managed colocation provider? What make them different than *normal* colo service?
If you need a managed colo, why not go with managed server? With managed server, your vendor will take care about the server health, including software and hardware too
(I am mentioning to fully managed server vendors like Rackspace, don't tell me cheap managed servers)
I've always had hosting where everything is pretty much already setup. I am now considering getting my own dedicated server. I see most good packages are Self Managed Servers.
I'm not a system admin and never had any experience managing and setting up my own server. Is this a lot of work? Is this something that is also pretty easily learned or does this really take a lot of knowledge?
I have a Server with Centos7 + Plesk 12 and in the service configuration say that the Bind service is not installed, from command line i have install named services and make a manual configuration the first domain, but when I return to the service page in plesk... the problem is the same, the Bind Service is not installed; then the problem is when i want create a new hosting i need to go to the ssh to make the DNS configuration...

I want to make this through my resellerclub managed DNS service
We're starting a new video sharing project much like YouTube, so there will be lots of video conversation taking place, as well as high volume traffic on a website driven primarily by PHP and MySQL. It is very important that the company be able to host adult content.
We are looking for a managed VPS under $40. This is not a hard cap. We've been looking at EarthVPS but would like to check out more companies before making a decision. The price point that EarthVPS offers is relatively in the right spot. We are looking for comparable resources as well.
EarthVPS offers 50GB of space, 1000GB bandwidth for $35 a month. Keeping in mind cPanel is $12 more per month.
What is EarthVPS' reputation? Are there any other companies out there that offer a managed VPS service at around the same price point with roughly the same resources?
One of my sites needs a vps of its own... the hosts ive tried so far have not been very satisfying (uptime wise) but i will not list them because they had a 30day refund policy and that alone is enough to say thanks and a friendly goodbye.
What im looking for in a vps... (atleast)
-10gb filespace
-200gb bandwidth
-Managed
-Cpanel
-Unlimited domains/sqls (would be nice to add on some domains)
-Reasonable setup time
-Money back garuntee (not a must but id lean more towards hosts that offer)
-Reasonable uptime (i know 100% isnt possible.. least 80%?)
-Located near southern california is a plus
I think i nailed pretty much everything im looking for unless i forgot something.
Thanks for the recommends in advance!
My budgets about $50 by the way.. (can pay more depending on the host)
I'm having a little trouble with setting up DNS. I'm not sure if it's setup right, and it's acting slow the *first time* you connect (but normal until you reconnect again, wait 3 minutes).
3 domains at 000domains.com. 5 DNS each domain at dnsmadeeasy.com. Reseller plan with dedicated IP at polurnet.com.
- At dnsmadeeasy I enter the domain daemn.com and IP.
- At 000domains I register n1-ns5.daemn.com with my 5 DNS IPs.
- At 000domains I update daemn.com's DNS to n1-n5.daemn.com
- At 000domains I add A record with daemn.com's IP.
- At WHM I edit daemn.com's DNS to ns1-ns5.daemn.com
- At WHM I change daemn.com's A records ns1-ns5 to the 5 DNS IPs.
I repeated the same for the other 2 domains. Looks like they gave me the same DNS IP's for all 3 domains though.
On top of all that, I added subdomains in cPanel (which added A records for them) and they still haven't resolved (5ish hours). Didn't take this long before. I wonder if I need to add A records at 000domains too, or I did this all wrong.
I'm looking for Managed VPS in Europe (for example UK, can be DE but with english website and support) or ultimately in USA (DC in east coast) with DirectAdmin panel.
I need about 10-20 GB hdd, 60-80GB transfer/month. The company should be already several years on the market...
would like to move to a VPS plan, many has already mentioned that managing VPS is not easy in which it is kinda scary for me! but may I ask what are the main things that I need to know to manage a VPS host.
from my experience on a shared host with cpanel I know how to manage domains, subdomains, backups, traffic-analyze, mysql-databases, myphpadmin, ... etc.
Now if I get a VPS host with cpanel, do I need any extra experience to mange it? if so, what are they ...
Glowhost.com offers Managed Firewall on their dedicated servers.
How effective is this software?
What additional services do I get with a managed VPS account? Does it depend on the service provider?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI see some hosts provide fully managed VPS. If that's the case, what does that mean exactly? Does it mean the host manages updates and backups and that kind thing? what other maintenance does full managed VPS can provide besides updates and backups?
