Infrastructure Web Access goes down, and I cant see this page [url], than I have to run this command /etc/init.d/vmware-mgmt restart, after I run this, I can see this page and consoles come up.
Has anyone setup a low cost virtual desktop infrastructure using multiple Windows XP installs on VMWware Server, and if so did it work out for you? If you have any tech specs could you put them here as well.
I am looking to install 10-20 XP installations across a VMWare Server (the free one) Running on 2 or 3 physical servers with probably 384-512mb Ram per each one.
Then the users would just use RDP to connect up to them. The clients are located in 5 offices within 60 miles of the datacenter they will be in. So latency on RDP won't be too bad.
I have winXP pro as my OS and am running Fedora Core 7 as a guest operating system on vmware. I am trying to ssh from my winXP to FC7. Any thoughts on what I could check to see why I am getting connection refused? I have already turned off the firewall and selinux. Any other ideas?
Also, if possible i would like to see apache2 on my main machine. I would like to be able to turn on and off the viewing of what I am working on.
I will have to transfer my files from my old server to my new one but I am wondering what is the best way to do so :?
Quote:
Server 1: 11.11.11.11 SSH port: 22 login: user_server1
Server 2: 22.22.22.22 SSH port: 1234 login: user_server2
So how can I copy all my file from server1 including .hidden files and all directories to a new old_server/ directory on server2, which is not using the usual SSH port
I tried ssh'ing into server1 and then scp from there, but I always got a connexion refused error as it was not taking into consideration the alternative port
I am currently looking for a managed hosting solution for a small start-up.
The site will have a repository of articles in it, these will initially solely consist of documents (av. 2mb in size) and (based on performance) may be expanded to containing video/audio, however this is not likely to happen within (at least) the next six months.
The site will be running on a Linux server (we will not be considering any Microsoft products), using PHP 5 and MySQL 5. There will be a registration form and users will (based on performance) eventually be able to upload articles to the site.
We have contacted various hosting providers (am in talks with Rackspace, Rochen and Network Redux) and have had everything from SAN to a 500GB (RAID 1) recommended to us.
As the site is still currently in Beta with nothing in it and proposed launch date is March 09, I would be grateful if anyone who was in a similar position could inform me how their infrastructure evolved as the site demanded more resource.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read my query.
I've just downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC and the Internet Explorer 6 Application Compatibility VPC Image containing an XP installation for testing sites with IE6 [url].
Everything works fine, I chose VPC Shared Networking (NAT) and I can access the internet from the VPC as well as my Apache development server which runs on the host OS (Win XP) by going to the host's IP address which is [url] in my case. And here I have 2 problems:
1. I want to access [url]on VPC just by typing [url]. I added the following line to the hosts file:
192.168.52.141 localhost
But this doesn't work. Interestingly, any name other than localhost works fine, for example:
192.168.52.141 localhost.localhost or 192.168.52.141 local
This is not a major problem but I'd prefer localhost. Any ideas how to do that?
2. And the more important issue: on my host OS I have some development sites which I have set up to be accessed by subdomains, for example [url], in httpd.conf:
Code: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.3> ServerName perfekt.localhost DocumentRoot C:wwwperfekt DirectoryIndex index.php index.html </VirtualHost> and in hosts file:
Code: 127.0.0.3 perfekt perfekt.localhost And now I want to access this site from my VPC too by using subdomains like this! How can I do that? The address 127.0.0.3 seems to be local to the OS and VPC can't see it. I have tried setting other IP addesses in httpd.conf but nothing outside the 127.x.x.x range works on either OS. I suppose I need to make each of my sites to be seen under a different IP from the outside network so that VPC (which is "outside" the host OS) can access them - then I just set up the appropriate subdomain names in VPC hosts file -
I created a new virtual site and cloned an existing to to the new docroot to have content. But when I access it I receive the Access Denied you do not have permission to access . . .I've checked all my entries and unless I'm blind I cannot figure out how to remedy this on my Windows 2003R2 server running apache 2.2.x
We have been trying all day to resolve a very annoying issue with iptables, more info below;
[url]
After following the above guide, PIM became not available but clients were able to start their firewalls without any issues.
I made some changes and PIM and clients firewalls were fine but certain features in PIM are not functioning, as seen below;
----
Cannot create Containers on the "linux.x86_64" platform as no suitable Hardware Nodes are available.
Possible reasons All compatible Hardware Nodes are offline. No OS templates found. Possible solutions Try again and select another platform or Hardware Node. Install at least one OS template for this platform. ----
There is 100's of templates and I was able to create containers before I made the iptable changes.
I have been in contact with Parallels but it seems they don't know how to solve it either as they haven't replied for almost 4 hours. (they were replying instantly until gave them the above)
I'm in the process of installing PPA on infrastructure running Parallels Cloud Server. Each container has 2 interfaces, one public facing and a private interface for inter-server communication.
No problems installing PPA 11.5 (specifying IP's on commandline) or adding service nodes however, the firewall rules the documentation speaks of are nowhere to be seen? i.e.:
Important: After the installation, PPA creates the special firewall chain PPA-SN-Rules-INPUT used for communication with service nodes. Do not change it, otherwise, you will not be able to add service nodes to PPA.Click to expand...
Has this been dropped from PPA 11.5 ? (I recall seeing the firewall settings in 11.1) There is also no sign of the ppa.firewall tool that is also mentioned.
The only rule I see inserted is for Postgres on the management node, and 2 for pleskd on all of the nodes (open to world!).
I would like to understand what is the difference between VPS and a VDS. I understand they sound the same, however from a cost stand point VPS is way cheaper than VDS, and I am not very sure of the reason.
Does anyone here use VMware server on a dedicated server to run Windows or other OS? And in terms of IP address how would this work? Do you need to set the VM as being NATed, or does it have it's own external IP? In terms of performance on a typical 100$-200$/mo dedicated server, how good is it? All these factors depend on a lot of things and I realize that, though. (what apps run, etc)
And do server providers even allow to install something like this? I've never leased a dedicated server before but I'm thinking of getting a linux one, but also running a windows VM for a RunUO server, and unfortunately that only runs in windows. I want a linux server as I prefer LAMP for hosting, and I'd try to get a few clients on the server just so I can pay it off monthly. Also Linux servers are generally cheaper monthly and I like the idea of using SSH tunnels rather then straight RDP, which gives me chills just thinking of, from a security perspective.
Not to start a flamewar, but I was curious about real world scenarios, and peoples experience with and recommendations for either.
I have been asked to plan out a smallish virtualization environment (10-12 Dell hosts, iSCSI Equalogic backend), and when reviewing the cost of going with VMWare over Citrix, I can't seem to justify the costs. I figure since Amazon runs on Xen, it must be pretty decent, but am I missing something?
we have problem with increase HDD for VPS in vmware
when i increase HDD show this error:
"Reconfigure Virtual Machine" failed to complete OK If these problems persist, please contact your system administrator. DetailsOperation failed because file already exists.
Does anyone think this is feasable? For instance, we all see web servers hosted in the "cloud", as well as pay per user exchange and other mail servers.
Now, what if I wanted to host all my servers (web, email, file, domain controller, and several application servers) at a data center using Vmware.
I did some research and found out that the cost of creating a private cloud (VMWARE licensing alone) would be prohibitive. Is there a way to rent/lease a "private cloud"? Or perhaps I would not even mind if we shared space with others on the server(s) on a "public cloud".
Any ideas on if VPS (or other types of) hosters that could provide this service?
I'm not sure how many people here use VMWare, but I'll give this question a shot... I'm looking for a solution similar to Winrar that can view the contents of the .vmdk file. Either to extract any files, or just view the contents without having the have the virtual machine online. I checked Google as well as VMWare's forums/website with no avail.
All these are free but which is best. What are the pros and cons? Have been using Virtuozzo and I love it but thinking about offering cheaper solutions with GPL software.
Which VmWare product allows me officially to use it for VPS hosting business (ESXi does not allow that)? Do you have a link to document where they specifically authorize use of their software to make and sell VPS? Are there any legal limitations? What about vSphere standard?
What about Xen, what are limitations of free version? Which payed version is best for VPS hosting, are there any legal limitations?
