View 3 RepliesSister company recently asked me to start offering VPS reseller accounts as part of our product range but after researching how other companies are doing this, i fear i may have gotten this wrong.
My thinking on the VPS reselling process was as such, like a reseller account, as in, the customer buys a chunk of space/ram/bandwidth and then cuts it up into however they like and sells it at profit.
However, i have realised this is not the case with other companies, they give you a discount per how many VPS's you order, or do the whole affiliate referral scheme.
We have the "advantage" of using HyperVM where we can setup clients to have a certain amount of ram/clients/ip's/bandwidth/disk space, hell, they can even setup vps's accross different nodes. Im sorry if this sounds like a sales post, the main part im trying to get at is, why do others companies not provide this? Am i missing an important security issue?
I wanted to offer my clients vps hosted by me, but because of the time, effort and risk factors.
Beacuse of this I am interested in vps resell. I need a few things:
I will handel support,
The sever will have to be unbranded, no way of the client knowing it is a resold server,
Windows OS.
I am looking to buy from the provider at around these prices:
512mb ram, 20gb HDD, 300gb bandwith - $20 per month
256mb ram, 10gb HDD, 200gb bandwith - $10 per month
Is there any good companies that allow people to resell their VPS's and offer discounts to the reseller?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've noticed a lot of VPS hosts that use other control panels besides cpanel, but what I'm looking to do is get a reseller account and have WHM/Cpanel on it. I haven't seen a host offer to install this for me when setting up the VPS, are there any companies that do this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just contacted support at my current VPS provider about an issue I had when setting up a reseller account and here the (partial) reply I received.
Quote:
You are reselling? You are not allowed to resell with the package you are on. VPS packages can't handle this much as its still a shared environment.
Supposedly the server is a Dual Xeon 3.0ghz with 2mb cache, 8gb RAM, 15,000 RPM SCSI drives in RAID 5 and hotswap, triple redundant power supplies and it can't handle reselling? WTF?
I'm not even actually reselling as the reseller account I setup was for my wife so that she can manage her own domains!
I think the VPS package maybe a rip anyways at $114/month:
20 GB HD, 2048 MB (384 MB Guaranteed), 300GB/Month, Cpanel w/ WHM, Full Management, Monitoring, Root Access, Daily Backup
The only reason I even am using this particular host is that I used to have a dedicated with them and was looking to downsize due to some cash-flow problems.
I am looking on reselling VPS packages, i have had a look around and the prices seem very high and the commission they offer is quite low.
Preferably would like sell US and EU vps packages, so a company who does have datacentres in both continents will be ideal.
is there such a thing as game reselling and could some one suggest a provder?

View 14 Replies View RelatedWindows reselling is more complicated to run than Linux one and starting it I'd like to have it from the company that has a quality support team.
I have heard that aspnix.com is one of such companies.
A lot of the web hosts I Come across are resellers. This is understandable, but is it possible to find out who they are reselling for? Also, is it possible find out who the registrar of a domain is? I know of whois, but it doesn't seem to tell me the original host/registrar.

I'm thinking about getting into reselling dedicated servers, and would like to know if any of you here have done this in the past or present and what your experience was or is doing it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI currently have a series of websites hosted with HostGator. The thing is, having a series of shared hosting plans starts to add up after a while. What I was considering was purchasing a reseller account (which will save us about $15/month) and then just hosting all our websites from there, obviously, not reselling the plans, just using them internally. For the savings, it seems like a logical thing to do. When we purchased shared plans, I bought bigger plans than we need, expecting the sites to grow (which some have, others have not).
Has anyone done this? Do you suggest it? Would there be a better way than buying a reseller account (We can't afford a dedicated server quite yet)?
For what you used to use Dedicated Servers?
For your hosting purpose or for reselling them to your hosting clients?
I currently run 16 boxes which I rent from various data centers, mark-up and resell. Conventional wisdom says that it's time for me to start colocating my own servers. I've got approval for capital (loan) so it's no problem for me to just buy these boxes and colo them. But... how the hell does anyone afford it?
I mean, I can get a cabinet in H.E. with 10Mbps burst to 100Mbps for $600/mo (through EGI). Which is an insanely good deal until you realize that it only includes 15amps of power. So (I think) that means that I can really only run about 15 or 20 Celerons at the most. So much for filling up the rack.
Optimistically, if I can run 20 Celerons which I've priced at about $700 each including shipping -- plus a switch, KVM, spare parts and bank interest over 24 months -- that's about $800/mo for the servers plus $600 for the cab, plus about $200/mo for remote hands in case I need the DC guys to do something. I'm looking at about $80/mo per server which I have to pay whether it's rented or not.
I can easily find celerons for $80/mo which include some level of support and I can very easily cancel whenever my client does and buy a fresh new one whenever I get a new client.
I was all excited to go colo -- but the numbers don't add up. What am I missing here? What's the big advantage to all the extra hassle of owning your own?
if its possible to find a VPS reseller that allows you access to their HyperVM or Xen installation, soo you can add/remove/update accounts instant with out going through their management system ?
I really think this type of service has potenial, if its possible to do this in a safe way and low cost.
Is there any recommended hosts that offer Dedicated Server with Virtuozzo License. What are the things to look for when choosing a provider for VPS offering. What is the recommended hardware for average VPS hostings.
I remember The Planet used to offer Dedicated Servers with Virtuozzo license a few years back but I couldn't find this information anymore there. Who are the lead players for dedicated servers for VPS currently in the industry?
I'm thinking this is all I need.
- unmanaged
- Debian Etch
- 100gb transfer
- 128 to 256 ram
- around 5 gigs disk space
- 1 IP
- CPU... within reason but nothing special required
I don't need any proprietary control panels or any of that stuff. I'm perfectly fine and more comfortable on the command line anyways. Just give me the base net-install of etch and SSH listening and I'd be happy from there.
Basically all I want it for is as a backup MX with postfix/clamav/amavisd-new/spamd and secondary bind. Maaaaaybe apache from time to time for a little bit of personal stuff but nothing special. Shooting for cheap here because I don't really 'need' it, it would just be nice to have so I could supplement my other server off site rather than running failover how I currently do it.
I'm looking into purchasing a VPS, and I saw unmanaged are cheaper.
What would I need to know/learn to do maintain an unmanaged VPS?
would like to move to a VPS plan, many has already mentioned that managing VPS is not easy in which it is kinda scary for me! but may I ask what are the main things that I need to know to manage a VPS host.
from my experience on a shared host with cpanel I know how to manage domains, subdomains, backups, traffic-analyze, mysql-databases, myphpadmin, ... etc.
Now if I get a VPS host with cpanel, do I need any extra experience to mange it? if so, what are they ...
What additional services do I get with a managed VPS account? Does it depend on the service provider?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a java-based instant-messaging server application, which I need to host on a VPS.
This server application comes with its own Java Virtual Machine.
I do not need any other software than that, no web server, no database, no PHP, no multiple domains or whatever, because that stuff is hosted on another server
So I assume, I will just need an unmanaged VPS. Am I right or is there more to it?
Do I have to install and manage firewall and security on unmanaged VPS, or is that done by the provider?
What about monitoring? Any other issues I need to take into consideration?
do I want a Managed VPS or unmanaged vps?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have read about all of the things you have to do with an unmanaged server, and how beginners shouldn't even try. I am pretty smart though I have a lot of experience with cpanel, and I am not worried about getting my feet wet.
This is the system I want:
Celeron 1.7 GHz
1 GB RAM
80 GB HD
1500 GB Bandwidth
cPanel / WHm
Full root access
How much time would it take to keep the thing running? How do you monitor the server? How do you know when software updates, and patches are available? Can all of the software needed be found for free? What kind of problems would I encounter, and would this be way over my head?
As I've been reading these threads there seem to be plenty of unmanaged Linux VPS providers (e.g. Slicehost/Linode), but I'm not sure I've seen even a single mention of unmanaged Windows VPS providers. VPSLand, WiredTree, KickAssVPS all are managed. I'd like to know everyone's recommendations on good unmanaged Windows VPS?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat are the differences between managed VPS, semi-managed VPS, and unmanaged VPS?
I've always used shared hosting w/ a cpanel in the past but I'm leaning towards a VPS.
Of course Unmanaged is much cheaper than full managed and I decided to try with unmanaged plan.
what should I do to run my vps? what do I have to install or somekinds of that?
so my business partner (the IT person) is recommending we go with an unmanaged VPS over a managed VPS....
Now, I'm blonde...so kinda feelin dumb...what's the difference between a managed and unmanaged?
I would like people explain the differences as I am starting to get confused reading each company 'own definition' of manages and unmanaged services.
