Shopping For Host To Support Multiple WordPress Blogs
Sep 26, 2009
I am using aplus.net to host a WordPress blog and want to create more blogs.
Since aplus.net took 26 hours to restore my blog when somehow it was corrupted (no explanation on what they did), I have decided I need to host it someplace where I have full control.
I would be prepared to reinstall WordPress on my own. I also want to have the ability to control redirects. aplus provides a handful of very weak tools for managing the site.
I'm looking for a host that would allow me to manage multiple domains, and multiple instances of WordPress. I'm prepared to manage the MySQL db (if I have to, though I would prefer it if I had support for this).

Let's say a dedicated server has following specs:
Single quad core 2Ghz Xeon cpu
4Gb ram
250Gb SATA
100Mbps connection
and each blog has latest WP version and some plugins(without supercache) installed, 100 unique hits/day.
so how many blogs can I plant in this box?
(bandwidth is not considered.)

I've been doing a lot of research for webhosts lately, and that is how I found this forum. I'll cut right to the chase.
I'd like to order webhosting for my small business soon. My requirements are:
UPTIME, PHP, MySQL (basically, it just has to support Wordpress for now)
Storage isn't a big deal really, but I'd say we'd need at least 50 gigs just in case.
Most hosts seem to be pretty generous in that department.
Traffic is my biggest concern. The business will not be very active until August, when traffic should begin to increase at a rate we just cannot predict. Should an event happen (like being Slashdotted), the traffic could be insane because we would be most likely hosting video content (not adult content). I can picture the overage charges now, and it would be a nightmare. That is what I'd prefer to avoid.
I've looked into Yahoo and their promise of "unlimited" bandwidth. I'm thinking that might be the best choice at this point. It sounds like they will throttle your site but you won't be hit with any overages charges so I'm OK with that. I am not worried if MS buys Yahoo.
Which hosts would you recommend though? My budget is $0-25 per month until the business grows. Then I may consider VPS and dedicated solutions, but that is for the future.

A really nice feature has been brought to plesk with the native support for multiple PHP versions now.I tried it out, but there seems to be an error in the session.save_path of PHP 5.5.23 (the one I tested).sessions.save_path points to /var/lib/php/sessions but the default before seems to be /var/lib/php/session so the folder does not exist. For now I simply worked with a symlink to solve the problem:
cd /var/lib/php/
ln -s session sessions
Not sure if other PHP version or other OSes (besides PHP 5.5.23 and CentOS 6.6 are affected).

I am hosting a Wordpress blog that currently uses 30GB of bandwidth per month. I want to introduce a forum as well so will probably need 50GB per month for now. But would like it expandable to 100GB in the future.
My requirements are:
No hidden CPU Limitations/No unreasonable resource usage restrictions.
Equipped to handle large surges of traffic.
No Overselling, able to use full allocation.
AND PROBABLY:
LiteSpeed - Does it really make a difference?
I have looked at MediaLayer, but they only provide upto 50GB transfer.
SecureServerTech looks good but uptime is only around 99%
At the moment Steadfast Networks looks the best.
My budget will be $20 for 50GB tranfer and $40 for 100GB of transfer, but this is not fixed and I would prefer quality over price.
Control panel does not mater but uptime does.

I'm currently hosting my wordpress blog with dreamhost (yuck). It recieves 2000 unique visitors a day, which amounts to about 10,000 page hits per day. Storage is around 2Gb at the moment and monthly usage is about 20Gb however both are likely to increase.
Please suggest what sort of hosting and a provider for me? Budget is pretty much anything (within reason). I would prefer not to spend more than $25 a month but can if the consensus is for something a little bigger. Reliability is important to me so I don't want the site to be down coz I was asleep when the server went down.

I've setup a shopping cart and payment gateway and I've been completey customizing everything (working very hard for the estimated launch date for my new hosting company at the end of this month). However, someone setup an account under the name "John Doe" with root@localhost as the email address. It appeared to have been setup almost immediately once I setup oscommerce. This is odd because I've never TOLD anyone about my web site and haven't even begun the marketing portion of it yet.
I am SO happy I don't have automatic account creation otherwise I would be so stressed out right now!
Has anyone else experienced this? What does this occurrence mean and how can I stop this from happening in the future? The one thing that bothers me is the root@localhost email as I don't want anyone accessing anything that has to do with the root directory.

I currently have one blog on wordpress (a sub domain like name.wordpress.com).
I want to purchase a domain and also move it to a paid host. I am not really technically knowledgeable to do this. Have visited a few step by step guides but find them quite confusing.
guide to do the move/transfer of the blog, more for a beginner? And by the way is it simple to do or actually more for a professional?

I have a dedicated server with a shopping cart and I have had a very few people say they were buying and at the order completion stage the final page would not load.
This happens very rarely and I actually cannot reproduce it.
How can I even begin to trouble shoot this type of problem?

I was wondering what kind of web hosting I need to have to build an online shopping cart site? Does a shared hosting package work? The site will need to process credit card transactions so it needs to be secured. I'd appreciate some recommendations.

So with a VPS you can host multiple websites?
Do certain packages come with WHM where you can make an account for each of your domains?
Also, what is the importance of having more IPs? Does having 1 IP allow me to have only 1 site hosted?

Is there a hosting provider that can host my private proxy (for myself only) with cgi hosting (for cgi proxy - I'd like to stay away from php based proxies) and provide multiple ips? Preferably different class C ips?
I want to host SQUID proxy on it too.
Price, of course, as low as possible, but I understand with these specific requests that low price is really last on my list.

Our dedicated server runs our virtual machines for us and the NAT option is terrible...the virtual machines work REALLY well when they use a Bridged connection. The problem is that our virtual machines have to acquire an IP address somehow, and the hosting provider we currently use says they only give one IP address to our server which is fine if the NAT within the software worked really well...is there a webhost that can provide a setup where they have a router hooked to our dedicated server so if we need more local IP's they can be given/assigned by the router. This would then allow us to run our virtual machines much better. Does anybody know of a dedicated server host that will do this?

I notice that some forums are run by multiple web servers.
They offer choices for visitors from different regions so that they can enjoy a better speed when browsing.
e.g. Visitors from USA use www1 , visitors from Europe use www2
My question is: how to synchronize the contents and files between different web servers?
For the dynamic content, one database server can be setup. So that all php scripts on different web servers can retrieve from the same database source.
But then, in a real-time forum, how to synchronize the files between the web servers? For example, one user from www1 uploads a file. This file will go to www1's filesystem. How to make this file appears in www2's filesytem?
I can think of 'rsync' every minute between servers. But still it's not real-time, and there may be problems if sychronication can't be finished within the minute.

I'm looking for a free web host to host my portfolio. I need:
1) Php/MySQL Support
2) .htaccess support, so I can have search-engine-friendly URLs.
3) Preferably I'd like there to only be a text/graphic ad at the bottom of the page, or to be able to pay a small fee and have the ad removed. (No popups)
Is there any such host available, or can any of you guys here who sell web hosting set me up with one such account?

I know this sounds a difficult question, but any rough answer is better than none. I am sure there are rough expectations.
Will it be 10's, 100's, 1,000's, 10,000's etc.
I am looking at a dedicated server Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.0GHz, 1GB memory with network speed of 100mb (with gigabyte burst whatever that means).
[url]- bronze package - if anyone is interested)
I will run one site only. The site has very heavy database usage and normal page views with average images.
Video / most photos are hosted and delivered with a seperate, top-quality CDN.
Your answer might be... "You should get about 1000 surfing, using database etc. before you notice a slow down" etc.
I suppose the thing is.. at what stage would I need a second dedicated server / package upgrade / what will this server get me?

I currently run a website which is hosted with storminternet.co.uk and, while I can't fault their reliability, the (lack of) performance is undermining the usefulnes of the website.
Key features of the website are:
- completely MySQL/PHP driven so the host needs MySQL support and processor power . Some of the MySQL queries are fairly complex and call upon multiple tables of large datasets.
- monthly bandwidth is much less of an issue than speed (if that's not an oxymoron) as the number of visitors is currently <250/day.
- most if not all of the visitors are from the UK
In terms of budget I would be willing to go £150+/year if the service was top quality.
