my server will revert to its old host name and stop working. Old host name was (in) and the new one is (zonto). Then, the server will eventually crash HTTPD. There is enough ram, there is small cpu usage. HTTPD is restarted and then it says it can't connect to local host blah blah. I checked EVERYWHERE, the new host name is set. Is there a host name issue some where else? I change it via the hostname command and changed all of the files.
i am using seperate server for sql .But my httpd server failed many time when i checked maximum number of httpd connection then my sql server using too many connection what is the reason of this problem . Is my sql server using as a slave in a ddos attack or sql server need http connection?
The last 2-3 days my websites on my vps all started acting funny. Randomly throughout the day they will all just stop loading. If you go to one of my sites they will just load and load and load and eventually time out after 5 minutes.
To fix this problem, all I have to do is reset Apache in my WHM. Everything will be fine for awhile until it decides to stop loading again.
I've been talking to tech support for 2 days. They're out of options. They tried banning some IPs as they thought I might be getting hacked. They tried moving me to a different host machine. They've checked all my logs... there are no errors or problems with the vps. The server load is always very low. Memory is always very low.
I run about 15-20 websites on this VPS. Two of them are vbulletin (v. 3.6.4 and v3.6.8) and all the rest are wordpress).
My VPS is hosted with ServInt.
Server Version: Apache/1.3.39 (Unix) PHP/5.2.4 mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 mysql (5.0.45-community-log)
I get these emails all day: httpd failed @ Wed Jan 9 06:10:42 2008. A restart was attempted automagically.
I am completely out of ideas and options. Can anyone think of something? Think outside the box... make random suggestions. I don't care, I need to try something.
I most recently added 3 or so brand new websites to my vps about a week ago. However, they are just running wordpress so I can't imagine they're the problem.
I am not being able to restart the server, or MySQL or httpd via SSH.
PHP Code:
root@server [~]# /etc/init.d/httpd fullstatusLooking up localhostMaking HTTP connection to localhostAlert!: Unable to connect to remote host.lynx: Can't access startfile http://localhost/server-statusroot@server [~]#
PHP Code:

For my website I have a server which houses all of my gallery IMAGES of my user profiles. There are over 100,000 images on the server and it's only purpose is to provide those images with http.
However, the http server also has PHP installed, and it's only purpose is for uploading new images. Therefore users eventually get redirected to the images server where they can upload the image.
This all works, but in the future I want to remove the PHP side to the server. I also want to change the whole server program from Apache to Lighthttpd. This is because, lighthttp is a very low overhead web server program, but also provides very little features.
So I was wondering, if I was to do so, and since PHP is not installed, then I would have to make the upload pages on the main http server (which has PHP and Apache). Then I would have to make the main server send the uploaded image to the the lighthttp server via some sort of the scp system call, via PHP. I know that this IS possible, but when it comes down to security holes and so on, would this method really be worth it?
Generally I want to have the lighthttp setup only because it eliminates having to have any dynamic content. Obviously this can also be done with apache (removing dyanmic content), but lighthttp may be more efficient for static content.
As you can see.. there are LOT of connections, checked the network traffic with the NOC, and there is no attack to this server, also, load average is just fine ( fine to handle thos 24000 connections ) :
I have a server that has server load showing at 25-40 (once it was even 53!), running like that for hours. The server has 4 cpus - and yet the sites on the server seem to run fine when I check them. What I'm wondering is, what exactly is load in this context; and how can load run so high like that without the server crashing?
According to top, the load is caused by httpd processes running under user 'nobody', that often take up double digit CPU percentage.
Does Apache always run under 'nobody'?
Is there any way to trace an httpd processes - which account it's for, or which physical script or URL is calling it?
And for top itself, the TIME field on one server of mine is in the format xx:xx (e.g. 3:25), on another it's TIME+ and in the format xx:xx.xx (e.g. 30:02.77). What exactly does this mean? I would asume it's minutes:seconds and minutes:seconds:hundredths, but while watching top it doesn't seem to correlate with that.
a topic long time ago that my server load is frequently high.
I'm talking about something like this Server Load 158.86 Memory Used 28.2 % Swap Used 99.57 %
[url]
The only way to solve this problem is to identify the load earlier and kill all httpd process. What I did was
#killall -9 httpd #killall -9 httpd #killall -9 httpd x 30~40 times until no pid process found & the server load is back to normal.
On previous thread, I tried to update mysql & php and it works,
Right now again I am experiencing high server load again...
I'm very sure it's caused by httpd but I am still unable to find out the real cause of the problem and which account user is the culprit for causing this high load.
Can someone assist me by telling me where/how to begin with?
My Dedicated server is being slow - hopefully someone can give a helping hand
Processor: AMD Single CPU Dual Core Athlon 4200 Memory: 2048MB RAM Primary Hard Drive: 160GB Operating System : CentOS 4.x X86_64 Bit Control Panel: CPanel uplink port: 100
We have a VPS Server from one of the most reputable VPS Provider. We have 384 Guaranteed RAM and 1GB Burst. We have Dual Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 265 - 1795.503 MHz with 1024 KB cached allocated to our VPS.
It is only hosting 2 average forums (10-15 concurrent users in total) and 30 small websites, low traffic websites.
The problem we are having is, almost 3 times a week, the cPanel, named and apache services keeps stopping. I am monitoring our server when this is happen and prior to the event its only using about 300MB RAM and low CPU..
What could be causing this problem? Do I need to upgrade our RAM?
Our server is running; Plesk 11.0.9 and CentOS 5.7 it has a Q8200 CPU @ 2.33GHz and 2GB of RAM. Now there are just two websites on the server plus a couple of redirects/forwarding domains, although lots of domains are still on the server but turned off in Plesk. Both websites are OSCommerce sites and I just need to keep these sites going until the end of the year when we will switch to our new Joomla based website.
We have seen an increasing number of server crashes and after various checks of the logs, fitting a new BIOS battery, check of the hardware by EasySpace who host the server, installation of ClamAV, LMD and RKHunter (which did find some Trojans and Suspect software), I have traced it down to some external Http activity that is taking all of my CPU time and RAM. Here is a screen capture of the Htop listing and when I killed these processes the CPU and RAM went back to normal. The problem is that I usually have to restart the HTTPD service and sometimes things get so bad that the server crashes and I have to request a power cycle.
We currently have a web based apllication running on a web server, in addition we have two servers running as back up. The application running on these servers is business critical, so important we have 100% or near as up time.
We were wondering what is required to run these servers from within our own office, i.e. is it possible/practical/affordable.
We are only a reasonable sized company so cost is important.
Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so what costs might be involved, what we want is total physical access to our servers.
I was wondering if it's possible to transfer your site from a server to an addon domain on a webhosting plan at hostmonster.com? And is it possible to restore it back?
Like for an example I bought a dedicated server and setup the domains:
I have a project coming up to host a self developed database app on a web based SQL server. We have received the prepayment for the server rent for 24 months already and are currently looking for the best possible provider.
Requirements: Uptime and service response is critical for us. We want an unmanaged server but require the best possible response time in case of hardware defects or network issues (DDoS).
In the beginning the user base (small) will mainly be in Europe but with the tendency to grow more continents. I’d like a US east cost location with a speedy connect to EU but would consider an EU provider with a good rep.
Server specs:
I7 processor for fast RAM access 12GB DDR3 RAM (probably more later) 2 x SSD 80GB in Raid 1 (planning to go RAID10 on 4 disks later) Hardware Raid controller 2 TB traffic /month Windows Server Std 2003 x64 SQL Server 2008 Unmanaged. No help needed with server config. We intend to keep the same hardware for 24 months. So rent to own might be an option Large upfront payment are ok to reduce monthly costs. Hardware SLA would be nice KVMoIP would be nice
Firewall: Dedicated unit would be nice but we have no experience here and would need full support.
Im trying to find the most reliable webhoster on the wed. Im looking to start a business where i can offer regular hosting as well as reseller accounts. Im looking for a good server with a low price.
I was thinking about getting a core2duo for a vps node and I was thinking that I need quite alot of IP addresses and was hoping that the delivery time on the IP addresses were quite small. I need it for hypervm due to the fact that its alot cheaper than Virtuozzo.
I have been running a dedicated server for years, first with Carolina Online, who then sold it to HostOnce.
Today at around 6PM my server, that was working fine and I was actively working on all day, suddenly disappears off the Internet.
I go to Host Once's ticket system, and they have a message up that they moved their servers from NC to NJ, that all the servers were upgraded to Windows 2003, and that they would be very busy with the migration, don't submit multiple tickets. (Host Once seems to mostly have reseller hosting accounts, not many dedicated servers.)
I start pinging IP addresses and everything in my server's IP block is gone (the furthest a tracert goes is 64.70.48.3 - everything under that is gone.)
This is bad.
I'm worried that they may have bought new boxes in NJ for their reseller accounts, transferred up the data, and abandoned the old boxes in NC ... is this something they might do?
Also worried that the block of IPs their old servers were on may have somehow been reassigned... can this happen?
In any case, waiting to hear back on my ticket but looking for advice. Does anyone know the datacenter Carolina Online / Host Once used in Lumberton, NC? Want to start tracking it down if my box may have been left behind.... Any other insight on what in the world they might be doing / what happenned here?
I want to know that my main site smsbucket.com and smsbucket.com/forums are both hosted on same server.
But in future when my forum will grow I will need to switch host because my current hosting provider doesn't provide big disk space so in future can I just host /forums on different server? and keep smsbucket.com on my current server?
I've just bought a server and installed Windows Server 2003 O/S.
My website(with PHP) is currently hosting at another hosting company. and I want to move this website to new server and cancel with that hosting company.
It will also be a server for office network to share files.
I am moving my company's website from a shared hosting environment to a dedicated server. i need to know the best way to do this. i can afford 2-3 hours of downtime to do this. I am familiar w/ lowering the TTL and such, but what is the best actually procedure for doing everything?
Im new to all this trying to get a feel/grasp.. I want to create a website and host it from my own server... first I have no idea how a server even runs... i know you can run one from your comp but i wanna do a whole seperate server dedicated to this. second which language is best to create a server in how is HTML? I dont know much about it so i need to know where i could get info on the language or any good books that could be recomended would be great..
