SSL Not Working On Apache 2

I have Fedora Core 6 with Apache 2. Im trying to generate a local SSL certificate but the folders ssl.key and ssl.crt are missing from the /etc/apache/conf folder. I installed mod-ssl and openssl and still same issue. What am I missing? Im installing everything through yum. I searched the whole drive and there is no folder called ssl.key or ssl.crt anywhere on the system. And right now I cant get port 443 work via the virtualhost config in httpd.conf:

NameVirtualHost *:443

<VirtualHost *:443>
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/mainsite
ServerName mainsite.com
</VirtualHost>

After restarting apache and going to the mainsite via https it gives me the normal this is not a trusted certificate, I click ok and it takes me to /var/www/html/ instead of /var/www/html/mainsite. I was assuming because I dont have ssl setup correctly.

SSL Not Working
I've been working on a script which requires SSL, and in doing so, I've realised that my SSL is playing up for all domains on my server. I receive the error message: "An error occurred during a connection to www.pxlabs.net.au. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)".

I am using Apache 2.2 with PHP 5.2.10 along with cPanel/WHM. It used to work, but I assume maybe one of the updates have messed it up? I haven't actually touched anything in the configurations apart from going about the regular updates for cPanel.

I had a look in the httpd.conf, and I can't see any entries for virtual hosts on port 443.

SSLCertificateKeyFile /usr/local/home/pm42/privkey.pem
SSLCertificateChainFile /usr/local/home/pm42/finalcert.pem

but I dont know what to do next.

Apache Not Working
I am currently using cPanel 11.0 E360 build.
Apache 1.6.9

This morning, I used the "Modify Apache Memory Usage" , as suggested by csf/lfd.

However once it is installed, my Apache can not be started/restarted.

Is there a way to uninstall the Apache MemLimit script?

Cron - Not Working - Apache
I did not realize the significance of the Apache sub-forum. I thought perhaps this would be a more general Server management query, but I realize now I should have posted in Apache forum.

I have been banging my head against the wall for the last couple of days trying to get cron jobs working. It's actually making me quite depressed, a lot of people are waiting on me to get this working, and for the life of me I see no light. I'm not a stupid person, i'm a PHP developer, and have some linux skills. This is the single most annoying issue I have had to deal with simply because I cannot find any troubleshooting methods to my issue.

I have tried every different combination of command under the sun and I cannot get any sign that the cron is running the commands.

I own a "virtual" dedicated server with a hosting company, I have full root access. Linux / Apache

The script file is a PHP file which simply mail() an email saying that cron is working, I am yet to receive this mail that was executed by cron.

I have ensured there are no errors in this simple PHP file, I have executed the script from the shell and all is well there..

So, firstly I tried to setup the cron table from CPanel, on the account where the script resides.

I used the following command combinations:
Code:
0-59 * * * * /usr/local/bin/php /home/username/public_html/cron.php
0-59 * * * * php -q /home/username/public_html/cron.php
0-59 * * * * php /home/username/public_html/cron.php
0-59 * * * * cd "/home/username/public_html/"; php cron.php
0-59 * * * * wget [url]
with time combinations of:
* * * * *
to get the command to be executed evey minute, for testing purposes.

All these commands work fine when executed through the shell.

I set the mail address for cron output to be my mail address also.

I do not get any mail from cpanel with an overview of the cron executions.

I then gave up trying to get cron to work on that account, and decided to go root.

I logged into the shell via root, checked the cron table for root. I edited the root cron table (that contains commands for various cpanel scripts etc) to include a command to execute the php script, even with the script residing on the root directory.

I also added MAILTO="myemail@email.com" to the first line of the cron table.

I do not get any emails of the cron actions.

How can I check if the cron scheduler is working when I get no sign that the cron commands are being executed, and when I do not receive any cron emails? What methods are there for me to troubleshoot this issue?

Could it be possible that cron shedular is not active on my server?

I have lurked the net with great detail to find any method to troubleshoot my issue, and all the related pages I find are to do with troubleshooting the commands. I know my commands are fine, there is some other issue here.

Apache SSL
form last three days my server stopped responding and after restarting everything becomes normal. I am using Plesk 8.4. I found the following SSL error in /var/log/httpd/error_log

Apache + SSL
Recently I've been setting up a subversion server running with apache 2. I have the system setup and working great on my internal network (192.168...). I run into a problem when trying to get the rest of the world to see my apache server using SSL. I have created a self-signed certificate and when viewing my page internally it works flawlessly. When I try and view the server from my home, I get a blank page in firefox with a certificate that doesn't remotely look like the one I created, and IE just gives me the "page not found" error.

Is there something else I have to do to get SSL working so I can access it from the outside world?

- I can view the standard apache page when viewing over port 80 internally and externally.

- I've tried changing the IP in my virtual host to 127.0.0.1, the internal IP, and the external IP address. No luck

- I've placed entries in my /etc/hosts file to map my domain to the ip.

- recap: internal network SSL works perfectly, outside (rest of the world) can't connect via SSL.

Here is my apache virtual host:

<VirtualHost *:443>

DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/Documents"
ServerName <mydomain.com>
ServerAdmin <myemail>
ErrorLog "/private/var/log/apache2/error_log"
TransferLog "/private/var/log/apache2/access_log"

SSLEngine on

SSLCipherSuite ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:+LOW:+SSLv2:+EXP:+eNULL
SSLCertificateFile /SVN/setup/KeyGen/newcert.pem
SSLCertificateKeyFile /SVN/setup/KeyGen/webserver.key

<FilesMatch ".(cgi|shtml|phtml|php)$">
SSLOptions +StdEnvVars
</FilesMatch>
<Directory "/Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables">
SSLOptions +StdEnvVars
</Directory>

BrowserMatch ".*MSIE.*"
nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown
downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0

CustomLog "/private/var/log/apache2/ssl_request_log"
"%t %h %{SSL_PROTOCOL}x %{SSL_CIPHER}x "%r" %b"

</VirtualHost>

I've been at this for days and at a bit of a loss.

Used Apache Update/some PHP Scripts No Longer Working
Having some issues here, I used Apache Update to install WHMCS as I didn't have Curl installed. Well had some issues using the username and password as it couldn't connect to the database, my modernbill and phpnuke scripts still work but some other scripts like joomla, some shopping cart software, and other MYSQL scripts are not working.

I've run test scripts to see if I can connect to the database, got the following error with the PHP test script

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'data_invoice'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/data/public_html/test2.php on line 4
I cannot connect to the database because:Access denied for user 'data_invoice'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Also attempted it in SSH and getting a similar error that access is denied. Username and password are correct. I believe I upgraded PHP which my guess is what caused this. I've searched the forum for a few solutions and I had the problem in the past which I fixed it, but it's been a while.

Great Success, Apache Is Working After Subdomain DNS Configuration
So here's my situation: I have a rented vent server, that I wanted to point vent.mydomain.com to the IP of said vent server. I put an A record in the dns pointing to the server and all is well. When I type vent.mydomain.com into a browser it take me to the cPanel/WHM page saying "Great Success, Apache is working". Is it possible that I can somehow have that get redirected to the main site or no?

Basically if Im connecting with the vent client, I want it forwarded to the vents IP, otherwise I want to have it redirected to mydomain.com.

Configuring Apache With SSL On Windows
i couldn't find a more suitable category to put this post in: I am setting up a development server local to my office here, so that we can develop projects using an SVN app, but the SVN system needs SSL for logging in. i am now going round in circles where httpd.exe cannot start as a service from the apache monitor, with the following error:

The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> httpd.exe: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 192.168.1.84 for ServerName
in the windows event viewer.

I'm using:
Windows XP Home edition, SP3
Apache 2.2.9
full computer name is devserver
workgroup is WORKGROUP

I used openssl bundled with this version of apache to generate the SSL certificate, and they all seem to be ok. When i change the line

SSLEngine on

in the httpd-ssl.conf file, the apache service starts when the SSLEngine is off, but not when the SSLEngine is on.

i have trawled the internet but not found any answer. ive checked thru httpd.conf and httpd-ssl.conf several times but i just can't see anything wrong (although im not entirely experienced!).

Win 2003 Apache 2.2 Virtual Ssl Hosts
I have been tearing my hair out over this, I have a small problem, I am trying to set up multiple virtual hosts using ssl on port 443. I have followed instructions and set up IP based hosts with my single network card having two different IP's. but the problem is that the second IP is not recieving any requests from the router as it is using the certificate from the first host and diverting to the result of the first sites authentication process.

any one know how I can do this, the first router forwards all requests to the second more secure router which then forwards to the server which is working fine. I need to get this to work and don't know how. both routers support NAT and ther servers first IP address has been assigned a NAT IP.

I can't include the conf file as the board won't let me until I have posted 5 times....but if you need it I can email it or something

the virtual hosts on port 80 are name based....does this matter?

SSL And Non-SSL Files In Same Folder
My web host sets up public_html for http and public_ssl for https traffic.

So, if I want my whole site to be secure, I place everything in public_ssl.

However, I am using a shopping cart system inside a CMS.
I want only certain parts to be secure - e.g. the last stage of the checkout procedure.

At the moment, I can only achieve this by having two copies of the CMS/shopping cart, one in public_html and one in public_ssl.

Whilst this approach works (at least from the shopper's point of view), there are lots of problems from a content management point of view.

My host is of the opinion that "this is the only way it can be done".

Is it possible to enable ssl on public_html, have a single copy of the cms there, and then switch between secure and non-secure mode as needed?

If this is possible, can you provide me with a technical description of the setup that I can pass on to my host?

How To: Disable SSL 2.0 And Use SSL 3.0
Our security comlience test got failed due to following reason

Synopsis:
The remote service encrypts traffic using a protocol with known weaknesses.

Description:
The remote service accepts connections encrypted using SSL 2.0, which reportedly suffers from several cryptographic flaws and has been deprecated for several years. An attacker may be able to exploit these issues to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks or decrypt communications between the affected service and clients.

Solution:
Consult the application's documentation to disable SSL 2.0 and use SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 instead. See for Apache.

Apache Procs Constantly Rise, Until Apache Is Restarted
I've had this problem a long time now with my hosting network and decided to ask here hoping I get some good solutions, or if someone is willing to looking at this (I'll pay if they want).

Here's what I mean:
[url]

Problem is as you can see apache processes constantly rise infinitely, at least until I restart apache (/etc/init.d/httpd restart). The point of restart is shown in red lines.

And after restart, it goes down again for X amount of hours then eventually rises again infinitely until it's restarted again.

But the fact that after restart it remains down, it means it had the potential to be down all along.

So my question is: what could be causing this and does anyone have solution to keep them low at all times (as per graphs)?

Performance: Apache 2 Prefork Vs Apache 1.3
I'm building a new server for a predominantly php5/mysql5 website and was wondering which version of apache to put on. I know there are some issues with PHP and Apache in MPM, but what's the performance comparison between Apache 1.3 and Apache 2 Prefork?

Apache 1.3 And PHP4 With Apache 2.2 And PHP5
I have apache 1.3 and PHP 4.4 installed on my CentOS 4.4

Can I install apache 2.2 and PHP 5.x on the same server? I want to test my scripts for compatibility and also to check the performance.

I dont want to break my current setup because it's a production server.

Is My Mod_cband Working
I install mod_cband on apache server running on linux CentOS

I put these directives on the files
/usr/local/directadmin/data/templates/custom/virtual_host2.conf

<VirtualHost |IP|>
ServerName www.|DOMAIN|
ServerAdmin |ADMIN|
DocumentRoot |DOCROOT|
CBandScoreboard /var/www/scoreboard/|DOMAIN|.scoreboard
CBandSpeed 1536 15 30
CBandRemoteSpeed 728kb/s 3 3
</VirtualHost>

Then I echo "action=rewrite&value=httpd" >> /usr/local/directadmin/data/task.queue
and restart apache

But when I look at the mod_cband status page
why does the Remote clients still have speed more than 728kbps
and the request per sec is also above 15.

Is my mod_cband working?

Indyahozting Working Or Not
I hosted many of the domains in indyahozting and registered some of the domains also. There is a guy named Ravi, who supported a lot to host all the details. Now his mobile is not reachable and if I am sending any mails to support@indyahozting.com, there is absolutely no response. The company sent a mail stating on 15th May, 2008, stating there is a change in the management. The mail states that
"Also, Mr. Ravi Iyer, who has been managing the company all these days in all aspects, has moved ahead to look after the other businesses of the company, and will regretfully be attending to indyahozting and its clients no longer.

All support queries may be placed on our website thru the ticketing system, or by email to support@indyahozting.com, and billing and sales queries may be placed at billig@indyahozting.com and sales@indyahozting.com respectively.".

I tried for renewal of a domain, it is also not done. Sent lot of mails to support@indyahozting.com. I tried to contact Ravi, only one time I contacted him, stating that he is looking for other activities. Unfortunately, a growing company missed a techie and I think the company is going to close. If a hosting company is like this then what to do?

This is my php.ini file

;;;;;;;;;;;
; WARNING ;
;;;;;;;;;;;
; This is the default settings file for new PHP installations.
; By default, PHP installs itself with a configuration suitable for
; development purposes, and *NOT* for production purposes.
; For several security-oriented considerations that should be taken
; before going online with your site, please consult php.ini-recommended
; and http://php.net/manual/en/security.php.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; About this file ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
;
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
;
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
;
; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
;
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
; | bitwise OR
; & bitwise AND
; ~ bitwise NOT
; ! boolean NOT
;
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
;
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
;
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
;
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
;
; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin
; defaults (that is, if no php.ini is used, or if you delete these lines,
; the builtin defaults will be identical).

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Language Options ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; Enable the PHP scripting language engine under Apache.
engine = On

; Allow the <? tag. Otherwise, only <?php and <script> tags are recognized.
; NOTE: Using short tags should be avoided when developing applications or
; libraries that are meant for redistribution, or deployment on PHP
; servers which are not under your control, because short tags may not
; be supported on the target server. For portable, redistributable code,
; be sure not to use short tags.

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).
output_buffering = Off

; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
; is doing.
; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".
;output_handler =

; Transparent output compression using the zlib library
; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size
; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)
; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP
; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.
; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard
; output_handler, or otherwise the output will be corrupted.
zlib.output_compression = Off

; You cannot specify additional output handlers if zlib.output_compression
; is activated here. This setting does the same as output_handler but in
; a different order.
;zlib.output_handler =

; Implicit flush tells PHP to tell the output layer to flush itself
; automatically after every output block. This is equivalent to calling the
; PHP function flush() after each and every call to print() or echo() and each
; and every HTML block. Turning this option on has serious performance
; implications and is generally recommended for debugging purposes only.
implicit_flush = Off

; The unserialize callback function will be called (with the undefined class'
; name as parameter), if the unserializer finds an undefined class
; which should be instanciated.
; A warning appears if the specified function is not defined, or if the

Working With IBiz
Helping someone with their website and it seems they use this company as a web hosting provider. They wish to move and asked me about retrieving their content.

Is there a pretty easy way to do this? It seems they might not provide FTP access but they are somewhat of a CMS but not a somewhat easy access to get the information

Why Is My IIS NOT Working
I'm a MS Access 2000 guru, and I'm trying to build a web page in Access. As per the instructionsin your article on [url], I've installed the IIS through the Add Windows Component section of the Add/Remove Programs application in the Control Panel. But after building the ASP file, as directed, and putting it in the C:Inetpubwwwroot folder, the browser gave me the standard "Page Not Found" display.

PhpMyAdmin Not Working
My PhpMyAdmin is not working properly.

Everytime I try to use it, it tells me:

"Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly."

My PHP install is perfectly fine, and session support is enabled.

Subdomains Not Working At All
I have one domain that no matter what I do, cant use subdomains.

I create test.domain.com, john.domain.com, etc, they simply dont work.

httpd config shows:

Code:
# DO NOT EDIT. AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED

<VirtualHost SERVERIP:80>
ServerName john.domain.com
ServerAlias www.john.domain.com
DocumentRoot /home/johnuser/public_html/john
ServerAdmin webmaster@john.domain.com
UseCanonicalName Off
CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/john.domain.com combined
BytesLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/john.domain.com-bytes_log
<IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c>
User johnuser
Group johnuser
</IfModule>
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/johnuser/public_html/john/cgi-bin/

</VirtualHost>
named.conf shows both A entries correct at domain.com.db:

Code:
john 14400 IN A SERVER-IP
www.john 14400 IN A SERVER-IP
The subdomain was created 2 days go, so this is not a dns propagation issue.

Im using latest cPanel RELEASE version, and RHES 4.
