Review: Maximum-Hosting.org - Horrific Experience
this is my experience with Maximum-Hosting.org.
I went there for the low prices to startup my Shoutcast station. At $3 a month, it sounded too good to be true. I got my service, and the owner, seemed like a nice guy. He was very helpful, and was eager to help me get started. This was back in March. The first half of my stent there was great, however, in the last half, downtimes and even a data loss was getting on my nerves. I saw some really personal issues and arguments in the IRC server about the owner and staff, and even some back talk and really personal stuff that I wish I never had heard.
Because of the downtime, the owner did provide me with some free service and features. In these times, I was itching to leave, but the owner lured me back in with something better.
In this time, the service was 'okay', no real big complaints, I was even promoted to an IRCop, on the server.
Four things happened.
1) There was an incident in the chatroom with a regular joke we have done may times was taken really the wrong way. (I did not use my IRCop powers when this happened)
2) After a long outage (last night from 'this' post date), I was the only human on the irc server. In order for me to ask the owner what happened, I silenced a eggdrop bot by banning it from the main room. This was so I can get a new message notification when a real person enters the room. The bot posted every 2min, and it was at 2am in the morning.
3) I actually found a pretty big security hole in the control panel, the owner thanked me yesterday, and was furious the next.
4) because of the top three things, the owner basically got extremely mad and took away my IRCops.
Those 4 things basically were the last pieces of trash I could take. Yes, I forgot to unban the bot I mentioned in #2, but is that a good reason to get me out? Tonight, after a somewhat heated discussion with the owner, my account was instantly closed, all http/ftp pipes closed. I am very lucky I saw the owner start to fall into this cycle he seems to do, I had a full backup of the space I had.
In a nut shell, I would highly advise people NOT to use Maximum-Hosting. If you want low prices, frequent downtime, and the possibility your data could be gone in an instant, this is the host for you!
I can only hope no one else falls into the nightmare I have had to put up with for cheap hosting.

Cubichost.org Review
Day 1/2 - 18th August 2009. Signed up to VPS Mini with discount after reading an advert here. First problem on the first day, the IP and server information they gave me wouldnt work. "it was a routing issue, it was routing to another server. We fixed this and it should be working for you. " This was fixed in ~24 hours, and then I had access. I struggled with the limited RAM, and OS, so I changed to Ubuntu and queried about cost to change RAM amount - decided not to and just used apache to run 4 websites. Day 3 - 21st August 2009 System goes down, "Seemed like your ssh was not running; rebooted your vps now it looks good.", not quite sure on this - as I am quite experienced with *nix, and I dont see why "it wasnt running" but apache was. I suspect there was some routing problems somewhere, but eitherway, it was back up after approx 6 hours of non-ssh downtime. Day 11 - 29th August 2009 Had some issues in the days previous - saw some threads here on WHT. Still decided to upgrade to premium - as was going to be running a demanding MySQL server. Payment taken on 4th September for upgrade, and all was OK! Day ?? - 19th-21st (?) September 2009 Servers all went down, cubic host lost their IP range. Thread on forums somewhere about it. new IP allocation email received on ~24th, 2 days downtime, host unreachable. October 3rd 2009 My VPS vanishes completely, along with all the data. IP resolves to a new server, with fresh apache install. I am unable to log into root. Their billing system had "messed up" during my upgrade: Hey, The billing system say invoice #196 which was issued on 04/09/2009 is unpaid so the system automatically terminated your VPS after a period of non payment. I will confer with my partner that this invoice was in fact paid and will re activate your account. Regards, Gray F. CubicHost.org They responded by saying my VPS had been setup again I created your VPS manually. And for the inconvenience can give you 2 months from this date FREE. Then you will not get an invoice until December 2nd But, sadly, no backups had been kept on their end, and none of my websites or data was recoverable. I was digging around and couldn't find any backups anywhere. The billing system did a good job of terminating, unfortunately. What I could do is provide you hypervm panel access where you are able to configure backups and such. Like I said, you have 2 months from today, on the house; if you wish to use them. username: andyross.vm password: 7HzYn6KXYm you have full reboot access, can change your hostname, and all sorts of the like - Cameron Cubichost.org - Innovative Solutions October 12th 2009 Requested to close account obviously - as I had nothing left there now! Account appears to have been closed - could not log into cubichost.org, or their ticketing system - just email chains left. October 18th 2009 Cubichost take a $5 payment from my account. Dear Mr A P Ross, You sent $5.00 USD to Cubichost for a subscription payment. ----------------------------------- Payment Details ----------------------------------- Subscription name: Mr A P Ross Transaction date: Oct 18, 2009 Transaction time: 05:40:22 PDT Funding source: Credit Card Subscription number: XXXX exchange rate for this purchase is 1 GBP = 1.59235USD I am not quite sure why they have charged me after my account has been closed, but eitherway, it's only $5. Overview Cubichost whilst appearing cheap, and offering what at first may be a good service, in my experience has struggled with reliability and providing a good, consistent service. They managed to give me ~7 days downtime with no-proactive communication (all communication was my-end first noticing service was down), and then deleted all my data due to "a billing issue". They finally, charged me $5 after my account was closed, for what I am not quite sure, but I dont fancy the effort of chasing.

2+ Years Experience - Blurstorm (review) - Need Suggestion For New Hosting
I've been with Blurstorm for 2+ years and I can say alot of good thing about the company and support. I even gave them a 5 out of 5 of webhostingjury and went as far as to say I would give them 10 out of 5, so you can imagine how happy I WAS with their service until this past week. I has been an absolute hell. First the server kept blocking my ip and locking my session, when I would try and upload files with filezilla. They suggested to try a different ftp software which I did and it worked. At first I thought it was my computer/isp/router, so I tried it from my friend computer, same thing. And by the way, I never had this problem before. So I didn't make a big deal out of it, even though I prefer filezilla. Now a couple of days ago, seems every time I would browse the pages or try and use the admin section the site would go down, or at least that's what I thought. After sending 8 hours going back and forth with support(Robert) through their support ticket system, because there is not live chat, Robert tells me there is nothing else they can do because they dont see any errors happening and I would have to pay a 3rd party monitoring service to find out what the problem is. I mean I completely understand that if they cant find the problem but the site was working couple of days ago and I havent done anything different, so something must of happened on their end. Also I uploaded the site onto a friends server with a different hosting company and the site works perfectly with no problems. Now being left high and dry with no help from Blurstorm, I did a couple of more test and found out that the site was not down but was blocking my ip and locking my sessions and the only way around it was for to renew my ip and to try again, but that would only help me for a couple of mins before it locked it again. Again, I also tried it from my friends computer and same thing. So I know for a Fact that it has to be from Blurstorm's end. I told that the server was blocking my ip and locking my session and haven't heard from them for over 16 hours, which is horrible customer service compared to the way they were before. The main reason I stayed with blurstorm was for their support and quick response and I've referred them a boat load of business, and this was not the first time i've had problems with the server and support but I didnt make a big deal out of it and from now on no more referrals. Well there is my review, sorry it's a little lengthy but just wanted to give an indepth review. Second part - need suggestions for new hosting From what I've gathers from searching that are reliable precision effect jaguarpc innohosting which would you recommend from those or any others? And my site is based on joomla 1.5 + virtuemart so it should work with it.

UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

HiVelocity Experience Review.
I had decided to transfer 1 server into Hivelocity. It was a low $200s server with Hivelocities Platinum magagement plan. I was attracted to the pricing and the options available to configure my server how I wanted. I also liked the fact that they are somewhat local to where I live. I had placed the server order with Drew. The server was delivered to me in 4 days, I was not in any rush so I did not mind. We started the migration process and went with out a problem until we went live. According to the tech the hard drive cable was bad and was replaced within 2 hours. These things happen and I still was not upset. I was thinking to take advantage of the annual pricing offered and bring over the other servers until one morning I get flooded with phone calls chats and emails. I immediately try to log in the server to no avail so I contact Hivelocity. I was then told to contact the abuse department, well the abuse department does not take phone calls so then I was to told to log in a ticket. What had happened was 1 of the hundreds of accounts hosted on the server recieved a copywright complaint and the server would not go back online until deleted and a ticket respond. I always comply with any complaint however I would appreciate at least a few hours to resolve, rather them an immediate disconnection. When you sell shared hosting you will always have a few accounts that are bad. No hosting company is immune to this. The server went back online 2 hours later. Similar scenarios happened 2 more times with excessive down time in the first month that I was with them. Needless to say after talking several times with the GM Steve, I learned that he promises you one thing and either does another thing or does nothing as promised. For ex: will call you or will give a few hours to resolve any future complaints. To compile further worries I learned that Hivelocity was terminating servers with out allowing transfer, including one host that was in business over 10 years. I do not know the non-bias details of those scenarios but I do know those things do not happent at the Planet, Softlayer or any other major datacenter, otherwise it would have been posted all over the net as was with Hivelocity. In closing, my impression of the place was that their servers are ok, the bandwith is a bit spotty, the techs are ok, albeit one being a smart ass, the GM is a great speaker and the abuse guy is trigger happy. I do love the Hivelocity banners though. It's too bad as I thought I had found a company that can save me alot of money however it ended costing me much more with loosing good clients.

3ix.org
I am hosting two websites with hosting comapny - [url] They provide hosting for as low as $1 per month and this was the reason I thought to host with them just like thousands of other users who have hosted with them. I was stunned to see that my domains hosted with them has doorway subdomains with adverisements and malware. I checked my cpanel and amazingly there were actually no sub domains in cpanel. Those subdomains were actually created secretly through DNS entries by 3ix.org so that they can serve advertisements and malwares without being caught by HOSTING USERS. So I did a Reverse DNS lookup and found that all domains hosted by them are suffering from the same issue. They are cheating their users and now all the sites hosted with them are in danger as this will be considered as spam by Search engines and all sites can be banned anytime. I would strictly advice to stay away from this web hosting company....

KnownHost.com - Honest Review And Experience
I recently transferred to Knownhost after my previous host ask me to leave their server because my websites eats 35% of their system, not the bandwidth and not the diskspace but the CPU. I have several clients running SMF forums with less than a hundred users at the same time. After days of searching through the pages of WHT and through the suggestions of other members for me to get a VPS, I signed up with Knownhost.com. That is after asking them a lot of question regarding VPS and their packages, AUP and TOS. Pre-sale is fast, chat support answered all my questions with precise information and the same goes with their sales when I emailed them. Since I don't know anything about VPS, I asked a lot of question ranging from stupid to more stupid question. Should I delete incremental backup or full backup ? what is Apache backup ? Can I delete Apache archive ? Can my client run mod-rewrite ? What is wrong with their .htaccess ? What DNS entry should I change for wildcard? What should I do to fix system resource problem as it reached 35.92% ? As you will see, all this questions and the other questions that I throwed to them were answered in a very professional and precise manner. I must admit that I am really impressed on how they handled my problems and how they explain everything that I need to know. This may seem small issues to others, but for a newbie on VPS like me it is a great help. They are not just simply efficient, but also very effective in delivering the solution. All the help that I need was given to me to run the VPS from scratch, me having no knowledge about it. Honestly, at first I thought they were trained to be polite, but it seems the support are really polite in nature. Not like other support I encountered from other host that were trained to be polite yet their evil nature goes out when you asked something unusual and off their manual and they can't solve it. It's been more than a week now, but everything is running smoothly. I may have had a few downtime but loss is immaterial for everything is being resolved in reasonable time. Reasonable in a way that minor problem are resolved instantly while major problems are carefully evaluated to give not just work around but rather a solution to the cause of the problem. I experienced this when they fixed the problem of my PHP configuration that conflicts with the memory requirement of SMF and also regarding the wildcard DNS that my client need. I can't tell how long Knownhost.com support will be like this, but as long as I got the same quality of service from them, then I will stay. I saw more than 35% usage from virtouzzo panel and it is indeed a spike. In the event that the quality of support change, I'll look for this thread and post it here.

ZONE.NET Review: My Experience
We bought a VU200 VPS two days ago since we want to have a server in a stable environment mainly for our web site and email. We run a small Information Security consulting firm in the Silicon Valley. Our experience with Zone.net has been a total disaster! Zone.net installed a very bare CentOS 4; when we tried to use yum to install Dovecot IMAP we got a series of errors due to some missing libraries! Not a good sign. We contacted customer support and after they complained that this is an unmanaged server (like it is our fault they don't know how to install a stable system) they eventually agreed to install imap for us. If they installed a solid system in the first place we wouldn't have this problem . After we received an email from them saying that imap was installed, we login into the system and sure enough imap was not intalled! What a joke. We then decided to reinstall the VPS from the Virtuozzo panel, since we figured out that these people at Zone.net are incompetents. The new installed system was even more bare: no yum , no imap, nothing. We called support again and ask to have access to the CentOS distribution via NFS for example. We don't want necessarily to install yum or other packages using rpmfinder, which would not be very clean; nor we want to have to upload a ton of rpm packages to the server, which would be a huge waste of our time. We talked to Jeffrey about it and he came up with a bunch of excuses why this is not possible, and why it is the way it is since this is a an unmanaged system. It was clear from the conversation that this yahoo is incompetent and he is just a button pusher. Furthermore he was unwilling to help whatsoever. We have taken this matter to our credit card company and have them reverse the charges that Zone.net posted on our account and barred them to post any future charge on our account. We strongly recommend not to use Zone.net!

3ix.org - What A Disappointment!
A few words of warning. I came across 3ix by googling the net. Compared it to a few others and thought, hey, they're cheap. I'll host my site with them. They offer a US $ 1 dollar package (minimum 6 months subscription) for a small site and US $ 3 package (minimum 6 months subscription). I chose the US $ 3 a month subscription which equals US $ 18 a month. The reason I chose the $3 package over the $1 package is because I was and still am pretty cluelesss as to how to design my site and the $3 deal came with a site builder called "Click Be" and templates. Nice templates. the only problem I could neither edit existing buttons in the menu nor remove them. I e-mailed 3ix.org about the problem and got no answer. I visited Click Be's authors, a company in the Nehterlands and indeed on their forum I discovered that others were discussing and complaining about the same problems they had with Click Be. A few replies as well from the Click Be authors on that same forum confirming that indeed the buttons in the menu can neither be edited nor removed and that they're working on a newer version of Click Be site builder. Fair enough. however, this wasn't described anywhere on 3ix's site and none of 3ix sales staff had told me about this flaw. 3ix's site builder Click Be was touted as the latest and most powerful site builder on the net. they also advertise money back guaranteed within 2 weeks if not satisfied. I have e-mailed them at least 5 times before the 14-day trial period ended asking them to either fix the problem or arrange for a refund. Never heard from them again. Cheap does not necessarily mean good. I was duped by 3ix.org. Buyers beware!

Jailtime.org Xen Images
Has anyone here gotten any of the Xen images from jailtime.org to work on CentOS? I've figured out what the heck I'm doing since my last question [url], but they still won't boot. And the more I Google it, the more people I find asking the same questions. It looks like they're depending on a bunch of non-standard images in their initrd, and, unless we have some of these unknown modules, the darned thing won't boot. Mine ends up failing like this: Code: NET: Registered protocol family 1 NET: Registered protocol family 17 Using IPI No-Shortcut mode XENBUS: Device with no driver: device/vbd/2049 XENBUS: Device with no driver: device/vbd/2050 XENBUS: Device with no driver: device/vif/0 md: Autodetecting RAID arrays. md: autorun ... md: ... autorun DONE. VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) The xen.conf for this particular VM: Code: # This points ta real Dom0 kernel! kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.1.13.el5xen" memory = "256" name = "Ubuntu-Matt" vif = [ 'mac=00:01:02:03:04:07, bridge=xenbr0, vifname=vif1.0' ] # Set the disk... disk = ['file:/home/matt/vms/ubuntu-7.04/ubuntu.7-04.img,sda1,w', 'file://home/matt/vms/ubuntu-7.04/ubuntu.swap,sda2,w'] root = "/dev/sda1 ro" This is driving me bonkers... Has anyone gotten these to work? Would I be better off just installing from an ISO?

Fivebean.com VPS - Initial Experience, Planned Ongoing Review
Fivebean.com VPS - [url] Although the domain was registered in 4/15/08, I could find next to nothing on WHT or the ‘net in general in the way of reviews on FiveBean. Saw a lot of specials and things they have been running off and on at different venues and boards, but couldn’t find a review to save my life. I did search pretty thoroughly. No web cache on web.archive.org either. So, I’ll be the first to post one (that I know of), with a special they are offering, it’s very affordable, if the service turns out to be good enough, then I have another node at a great price J. The more, the merrier. Win / Win 4 all. (FiveBean also offers shared hosting, so not exclusively a VPS provider.) Hardware nodes – From their site: “VPS Nodes are built with Intel Core2 Quad Processors, Premium SATA Disks and RAID Protection powered by CentOS 5.x and MoxieVM. Each VPS server is backed up daily and we provide 2 full backups to our customers.” Although I never rely on provider’s backups, it’s good to see them offered as standard. Could come in handy. They offer 5 plans; I ordered the middle-of-the road “Starter”. All VPSs appear to be OpenVZ based. Ordered Plan - 512M / 1G burst 40G HDD 450G BW 1 IP CentOS 5 for initial load Initial order, small issue - Placed order at about midnight, got my welcome email at 7:40 AM. One issue was, I did not receive any emails from their ordering system, other than the PayPal-originating receipt. The emails were listed under the Client Area, so I still had access to read. Since I own and admin my own mail servers, I checked logs - Emails from ordering system were sent from a non-FQDN domain. From SMTP logfile: RECEIVED: MAIL FROM:<fivebean@kona> SIZE=3560 Mail server rejected because of the incomplete domain. This appeared to be an issue with the sign-up process only. All support ticket replies came from a FQDN. I described this problem in a support ticket, curios to see if they really do look @ and fix. Maybe on my second order? Everything initially ordered during the process was delivered, with no follow-ups required to correct anything. That's a little rare, from my experiences. They offer online chat support, but have not caught it online as of yet, although I haven’t checked before 9PM on any given day, so not a fair eval on that aspect. FWIW. - On to the goodies - Control panel - Apparently, FiveBean previously used HyperVM, but has since disabled and rolled out their own self-spun VM manager, "moxieVM". It's a simple, yet effective, web interface that allows me to do everything I need to, and everything works. That's always a good plus! moxieVM control panel contains the following: VPS list facility / user profile control / pass reset VPS Controls -- Reboot / Start / Stop / Rebuild OS / Set Reverse DNS Report (simple) shows -- OS currently installed / Monthly BW Usage total / Current Memory Usage / Action Log of previous control commands Noteworthy - when you select "reboot / start / stop" there is no confirmation, action is queued and executed immediately. Good info to know. Rebuilds - FiveBean offers 13 OS rebuild option w/ 6 Flavors - Ubuntu / Suse / Slackware / Fedora / Debian / CentOS, 32/64bit in most. Reload of OS (From CentOS 5 to Fedora 10) took about 4 minutes. Note - keep your original root login password! On OS reload, the pass is reset to the original you receive in your VPS welcome email, NOT whatever you have currently changed it to. I can see this being an issue if it’s been a while since you have reloaded and end up digging out the old email. A little different than HyperVM. Network - Ping times are consistently 15-16ms from/to Austin, 21ms from/to Atlanta, 12-18ms from/to Kansas City, MO. Traceroute to node (69.162.118.226) puts them behind Limestone Networks in Dallas, Tx. One thing I can report, their network seems to be very peppy. I've had a hard time hitting anything from / to the VPS with more than 20ms. I haven't seen a 30ms yet. From anywhere. An I have VPSs from coast to coast. VPS / Initial Order- Hostname was set properly right off the bat, both initially and on OS reloads. Reverse DNS PTR self-set worked without having to put in a ticket, a first for sure! I just entered the rDNS PTR I required, waited about an hour, and it was set and propagated, ready to go. No muss, no fuss. Although I haven't put any load on the system, the CLI is responding very fast, and pings / traces / nslookups are very quick (as stated above). The only issue at all so far was the aforementioned order response email non-FQDN flurb. But, stuff happens. Small beans (pun intended). AUP No porn, excessive violence, hate, deception, illegal IRC that causes no disturbances is allowed. I really prefer non-IRC networks, but they have a long lecture about it in the AUP, so it appears they watch activity pretty close. I’ll post follow ups as we go along.

Experience With GoDaddy Hosting?
I'm new to building websites. Hope someone can help with answering a few questions about GoDaddy. 1. Has anyone had experience with GoDaddy hosting? How good is their service and pricing? I heard that they have a proprietary control panel, which may make it harder to switch hosts down the road if needed? 2. When I compare GoDaddy's hosting plans, with a Shared Hosting plan, for $14.99/month you can get 300GB diskspace and 3000GB Transfer. With dedicated server, for $79.99/month you get 120GB diskspace and 500GB Bandwidth. What exactly is the difference between "Transfer" and "Bandwidth" in this case? And based on the numbers, it appears that the Shared hosting plan allows more diskspace and transfer than the Dedicated server plan? What am I missing here? 3. If I have a website that is mostly text-based with virtually no pictures, graphics or video, what type of traffic can I support with a Shared hosting plan that offers 300GB diskspace and 3000GB Transfer.

My Experience With Cirtex Hosting
To preface, I used to own a web hosting company but sold my customers after I came to college. I started hosting various websites with Cirtex Hosting and my experience has just been top notch so far. With such incredibly low prices and after experiences with numerous hosts over the past 5 years, I didn't think that Cirtex would render the outstanding service that it has provided over the past year. I have uptime monitored for my account and I'm amazed to see such a high uptime percentage ... much better than all the previous companies I have hosted with. I'm not hosting mission critical sites, but it's still wonderful to receive mission critical service for my small sites (at a cheap price to boot!). Support is very competent and responsive. My support requests are usually answered within the day and issues are mitigated quickly. All in all, my experience with Cirtex has been top notch, and I would recommend them to anyone. Hope someone might find this review helpful ... really do appreciate a good host when I come across one ... after being in the industry I know its hard to deliver a quality service, but Cirtex definitely delivers.

Nexplore Hosting - My Experience
Because of the great experience I have had with them I decided to post this here as they definitely deserve a good word put in for them. I have never had a website before so I was not really sure what I was doing when I looked around for web hosting. I found this forum and I have been browsing it for a while, and I saw the link in the reseller advertisement forum and decided to go for it. I am so glad that I did! I signed up for the special offer and my account was setup within an hour and I received a friendly email from Mark who is a member of staff welcoming me to nexplorehosting. I am in Australia but I get very quick loading times to the UK server. Great experience and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to start a website for the first time!

My Experience With Site5 Hosting
Have been with Site5 since 2006 and last 2 months the support has significantly degraded. Had 3 outages and 2 out of three times it took them longer than 24 hours to respond. Earlier this month web access to my sites was locked due to high resource utilization. Again they didn't respond my proposed solution. My sites were down for two days as the result. Migrated to a different hosting provider and asked for a refund since I just renewed my 2 year contract with them in July. Was told no refund is possible since I am not a new customer (they have 60 days money back for new sign ups). Will probably be settling this with the help of my credit card company. Any one had a similar experience? Any tips on how to handle the case when you sign up for a long term and the hosting provider doesn't deliver on the promise?

In my search for a new host, it seems like they're ALL the same. It's so hard to tell from reviews because they all have good & bad reviews. I'm trying to stay away from the ones who claim to give you "unlimited" space/bandwidth. I found one that I can't find many reviews on called aTech Hosting. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I definitely want to go with a hosting company that will be around. Anyone have any experience with aTech? [url]

Experience Of VPS Hosting
currently I am on a managed VPS: Processor, Equal Class-Based Memory, 768 MB with cPanel @ 625$ a year. paid in advance. I have no issues with the providers. We run couple of php/mysql sites. Fine. BUT when I started to move my sites to Drupal CMS, problem started to come! Every now and then the server crashes. I need to go to the port 4643 and restart! So finally I had to move out the drupal sites to my another reseller account located at DreamHost where I pay about 120$ a year for about 400GB! No issues of running Drupal CMS sites at DreamHost Besides, I dont want to spend more money to buy more RAM (as suggested by the VPS support guys). So, will move out from VPS ... back to a Reseller Hosting provider.. may be in another 6/7 months. Well, pinpointed couple of good providers, including MediaTemple.

Bad Experience With Xila Hosting
A month or so ago I tried Xila Hosting for a trail website I was making and I canceled the account and asked for a refund. Never got a reply to it. They have rubbish support. I never got the refund. A few days ago I got billed for hosting I don't even have. Its one of those things where it automatically pays for itself. I never knew it was there as I must have forgot but they never told me to cancel it. They have not issued a refund for that either. I have opened a PayPal dispute a few days ago and they don't even reply to that.

WANSecurity - Fully Managed Hosting - My Experience
Some of you may remember when I was asking for help on a good dedicated hosting company. I looked around for a month and finally found a great company to host my websites, WANSecurity. I received at least 10 dedicated server offers, but chose to go with WANSecurity because of the server and service they offered me. With so many options out there, I thought it would be helpful for me to share my experience with some of you. I have been on shared hosting for about 10 years and have never messed with dedicated servers. I had no idea there was so much work with dedicated servers until I got my hands on one. I was used to getting everything set up for me at Lunarpages. Although I love Lunarpages, their dedicated servers are nowhere near those offered by WANSecurity. Robert, the WANSecurity founder, has been particularly helpful. I received a recommendation from a WHT forum member telling me to get in direct contact with Robert for the "best managed hosting" offer out there, and guess what... I think I got it. Robert and WANSecurity moved all my files, installed Apache, Red 5, set up my mail servers, configured all of my large databases, and did so much more. Although I am new to dedicated hosting, their managed plans are world class and their servers are very reliable. No issues in the last 6 weeks for me. If you are new to dedicated hosting and don't feel comfortable running everything on your own, trust these guys. They do a great job and they are flexible. Their managed hosting plans are new but they have been around for 11 years. They know their stuff and most of all, they care about you. That's the great thing when you are a big fish in a small pond. They truly care for you and therefore offer you the best service. If you are experienced with servers, they are still a great choice. They will give you a great deal on a server even if you don't need all the managed hosting services. Check them out at: [url] You can also get in touch with their founder if you are interested. PM me for his email. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'm open to give you my personal feedback.

Our Experience With RapidSwitch Managed Rack Hosting
About us first, we do cPanel shared hosting and also (however you want to put it) fully-managed proactively monitored dedicated hosting - due to this we need access to our equipment all the time so we host it locally. Ed from RapidSwitch contacted us via live chat on our website at the start of September to introduce the company, he offered us a rack from Ł650/mo, mentioned we could take it upto 32A power (obviously not for that price!). We're based in Maidenhead (in the town centre), 5 minutes walk from RapidSwitch and 5 minutes drive from BlueSquare, as we use power-hungry Dell PowerEdges and the DC is closer to us we thought we'd have a look. We arranged a tour. On the tour we were told about their dual diverse dark fibre, diverse power, how their staff support cPanel, how the rack would be fully managed by them but we'd be able to pop in anytime to do work, how they'd let us move in our kit during the night, sounded great. The following day the whole Poundhost vs RapidSwitch thing went down, soon after RapidSwitch themselves went down too, which was slightly worrying. We moved in, or tried to First time we asked for DC access it took 1 ticket, a wait of 60+ mins, then an angry phone call from me to get it sorted out, it was sorted out for the following day -- okay, strange? We moved in the next day. Some days later we decided to move some of our live kit at BlueSquare over to RS for the evening. 4pm - I open ticket saying I need access to rack some live servers as per our verbal agreement when I signed up, and I get a reply saying No, as they don't accept hardware or visitors outside the hours of 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday. 4:30pm - I phone Randeep (sales guy) and talk to him, he talks to a Manager, arranges an exception, says a note will be put in my account regarding tonight and the other server moves we had discussed before I signed the contract. 4:50pm - I follow up this ticket to make sure they're ready. 8pm - Again, I follow up this ticket to make sure they're ready. 8:45pm - I arrive at BSQ after having sent them one ticket. 9:05pm - I leave BSQ after going through security, meeting a BSQ tech, unracking a box from BSQ1 and BSQ3, signing documentation, etc. 9:15pm - I arrive at RapidSwitch, no one answers the buzzer, so I phone. A member of technical staff (seems friendly, etc) takes my hardware, I ask "Can you rack this immediately?", I am told "No we're really busy", I mention that I had arranged this earlier, he replies "Well I wish they had told us!!!", I am then told "Management always arrange maintenance tasks at the same time and never think of the fu****g monkeys (he said this!!) that actually have to do the work, there is no communication at all"... He then goes on to talk about only 2-3 people being on shift in the evenings, how they have too much work, etc. I ask "Can it be done in the next hour?". Am told "Uhhhhh I'll try but Ive got a mountain of jobs to do". Tech then walks off with the servers, forgetting to take the rails, network cables and power cables. I mention this to him, he says "Oh, I'm not used to this Managed Rack malarkey". He then says "I'll update your ticket to say we took delivery of your hardware". 9:28pm - I drive off. 9:34pm - I arrive at my office, no ticket update. I wait around a bit and reply to the ticket asking if it can please be done ASAP. No reply, I then phone and ask what the deal is, am told on the phone "ohh we'll do it in 10-15minutes, when (unaudible) comes back, but usually colo orders are racked within 48hrs, we're really busy!" (so basically am told that what I'm asking isn't acceptable and they're too busy to cope -- not what you want to hear from someone who's supposed to be managing your hardware) 9:50pm - I phone up and ask what the hold up is. Am told your staff are too busy still, am also told that servers are racked within 48hrs of delivery. (So, basically I'm pushing my luck). 10:27pm - I get a reply saying your staff will do it as soon as they've finished their current jobs. 10:40pm - By this time I am getting customers shouting at me as this is taking too long, too right! I sternly reply to the ticket asking again to please rack them, once again explaining my situation. 10:49pm - I get a reply saying the servers will be racked as your tech has finished his other jobs. 11:08pm - I get a reply saying the servers have been racked but not plugged in, asking how I want them cabled - fair question, if not a bit obvious. 11:20pm - Servers are pinging 11:25pm - I have reconfigured the servers to work on the new IP range, so my job is complete, I then emailed them back asking if they're cPanel trained - turns out they aren't, although some members of their team might know bits and pieces - not what I was told on the tour, not useful to me at all. I had a think about it over the weekend -- I wondered, if we can now only access our equipment 8am-8pm Mon-Fri (30% of each week) and they won't even allow a Dell engineer in out of hours, plus their staff are too busy to handle our requests in a timely manner -- what do we do if something goes wrong? Worst case scenario is if a server physically broke at 5pm on a Friday and we didn't have the necessary spare part. We have 4hr SLA with Dell so they'd arrive at RS at 9pm but not be allowed in until 8am on Monday. I decided it would be unwise for us to use a data centre which only allows us access to the building for 30% of the week and we should have been told before we signed our contract that we'd only be allowed in during those times. Being told their staff were cPanel trained bugged me too, especially if what they're selling me is a 'Managed' rack. I wrote a long ranty email to them to nullify the contract, Paul Tacey-Green phoned me, we had a chat, he said they'd change the access time rules (but he hasn't yet), he mentioned that 2/4 of their staff on that shift had taken the night off sick and offered me some time free to show their commitment, I wasn't interested, I got the contract nullified and arranged to get out of there. I then called BlueSquare, they provisioned a new rack, got me a new IP range sorted and assured they'd help with whatever I needed. Getting out of there was interesting, a week later I opened a ticket to go there 19:30 one night, they made an exception to allow myself and a member of my staff in at the same time (only one visitor on DC floor allowed usually as their racks aren't secure). We got in there really quickly, the tech guy was nice. (But there seemed only to be 2 techs on site, Paul, on the phone told me there should be 4 during night shift) Anyway, we get to our rack and find the servers they'd racked the previous week weren't done properly, firstly they'd randomly been racked in the middle of the rack rather than on top of the existing ones (at the bottom of the rack), and then, quite scarily/hilariously, the bottom one they'd racked (in the middle of the rack), the rails weren't put in at the back, so it was defying gravity and mysteriously HANGING at about a 15 degree angle in the rack! We packed up our stuff as fast as possible, got out of there. We got into BlueSquare 10mins later, by the time we reached the door there were already BlueSquare techs waiting for us! They immediately took all our equipment out the back of my car and put it next to the rack so we could get it all installed. Anyway, I thought I'd just share my experience of RapidSwitch - Im sure they have lots of happy customers. I'm just happy we got out of there before we moved in too much kit. I couldn't handle the thought of giving them another chance, them failing and us being forced to move out some busy shared servers at 7:30pm one night! We'll be staying at BlueSquare from now on.

Experience With Savvis And Net2EZ Hosting And Connectivity
I am interested in finding out any experiences people have had in the last year or so with Savvis or Net2EZ. I'm primarily interested in experience with the IP connectivity they provide, as well as their co-location, reliability, etc. I have experience with Savvis from quite a while ago, but presumably that experience may no longer apply. It's likely we will end up buying transit from multiple carriers and deal with BGP, etc. But I am also interested in hearing about Savvis's Diverse Internet availability product. As for Net2EZ, I'd be primarily interested in hearing about their colo services and if anyone has had experience connecting to Carriers in the next door Equinix facility.

Hosting Review Site Or Top 3 Hosting Co. For Shared Hosting

I have a friend of mine who wants to create a church website, and is looking for the best deal. I use Netfirms which I have never had an issue with, but I didn't want to be bias, and would like give him other options to choose from. Is there a good WebHosting Review site, I could check out, or maybe someone could recommend their top three. I reading threw the forums here and I noticed there are not that many complaints with Hostgator. Again, I just want to see if there was anything out there better.

Expected Maximum Traffic For Yahoo Small Business?
I am a customer of Yahoo Small Business unlimited hosting. I am running Joomla (CMS) with jreviews which uses PHP and MySQL. I now need to expand my review and rating website to earn some profits. According to my business plan, I would need atleast a 1000-2000 unique visitors a day to actually earn off the website to afford a VPS. My question is, can Yahoo Small Business "Unlimited" hosting plan sustain that number under the usage of Joomla? I have been trying to find an answer to this for a long long time but to no avail. I know that "unlimited" is actually a marketing tactic and that one must move to VPS or Dedicated servers for serious traffic. But I cannot move to a VPS before I earn something from the website initially due to lack of funds. Can I expect to be tension free till the range of 1000-2000 uniques/day?

Maximizing Linux (CentOS) For Maximum Concurrent Users
I am running lighttpd and eccelerator. I have stripped the php-cgi. I have tried forking anywhere from 50 to 300 to 1000 fastcgi children with PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN (through lighttpd, I'll attempt to do with same with spawn-fastcgi and fpm) Server stats: Intel Core i7 920 12GB DDR 250GB 7.2k RPM SATAII 16MB Cache I am using to lighttpd's lighttpd-status to estimate concurrent connections. When I refresh the panel, it shows that there are around 100-150 connections and around 150 requests/s in the last 5 seconds. My vmstats show that CPU is 98% idle. Blocks written/read is neglible. MySql key_buffer set to 2gb and I'm pretty sure it's not mysql. The overwhelming majority of requests do not access mysql. EDIT: Uh oh, I just realized that tcp_mem could be a huge bottle neck. I just set it to: net.ipv4.tcp_mem = 4096000 87380000 4194304000 It was previously: net.ipv4.tcp_mem = somenumber somenumber 393,216 <<<--- WTF! x1000 for my read values (it's an access server only). I can't benchmark the server right now so let me know if you have any suggestions besides this. I do think that this was the problem. When under load images could not be accessed either.

Maximum Page Views Per Month A Shared Plan Can Handle
By shared plan I mean affordable $8 per month shared plans offered by most cheap hosting providers. By using wordpress without wp-cache plugin, what's the maximum daily pageviews / page refreshes a shared plan can handle? I mean, in terms of CPU load, before having to upgrade to a VPS plan or sth. Can anyone give me an approx figure? I'm thinking, if you got 1 visit every 3 seconds, it's 28800 pageviews a day? Any shared plan can handle that right? No other crazy stuff at all, just one domain on wordpress with pure text posts. I know things vary host by host, but can you give me your own estimation on this?

MonkeyWrench Hosting Review - Three Year Review
MonkeyWrench Hosting review - Three year review I've been hosting my personal sites with MonkeyWrench Hosting for around three years now (coming up in January I believe), and I figured I'd share my experiences with them! I've gone through a few hosts in my time, and some of them have been pretty rough. After using paid hosts, a niche free host started up that I stayed with for around a year before they eventually closed down. I switched to MonkeyWrench Hosting at that point as a place to host my sites and store my files, and I have to say that I've been impressed throughout the time I've been with them. Uptime/speed: Fantastic! The sites have been perfectly reliable and speedy whenever I've gone to access them, and I haven't had any complaints from users. I did come across MySQL going down on one of the servers (I have two accounts for different purposes that are on seperate servers) in the past, but it was resolved quickly before I even needed to get help. Support: I've used the support a few times, but not for anything critical since there's not been the need. However, everything that I have asked was answered promptly in a professional manner. Pricing: Again, no complaints here. The pricing is pretty cheap, especially for the quality of service receieved. They aren't the cheapest on the Internet by any means, but you generally get what you pay for. I'm aware of what my realistic space/bandwidth needs are anyway, and I'd rather pick a host that clearly advertises what you'll receive over an 'unlimited' host. All in all, MWH have been a fantastic choice and I couldn't have hoped for anything better. So, thumbs up to Jonathan, and keep up the good work! I'll report my domains for the moderators to check them out. =)

Burstnet Review - Burstnet / Nocster Experience
I used Burstnet dedicated service for more than 2 months & would like to post a review here: Initially I ordered a server before two months from Burstnet, Burstnet (Nocster) took more than a week to setup. After waiting for a week I got the server. Never received remote reboot port , though they billed me for it every month. Initially it was working fine. After 7 days approx , my server was inaccessible , I added a support ticket to reboots & got reply that my server was suspended due to lack of reply of the abuse warnings they sent me , while I had got an abuse alert before a day informing me about spam mails somebody sent from a vps, I had already replied to the alert that I suspended the vps of spam mail user & had also got email from Burst saying: " Thank you for taking the time to contact the BurstNET Abuse Dept. BurstNET in no way condones any spam related........" it was confirmed that they had received my reply for abuse alert. I informed them this in ticket, they replied they did not receive any reply from me. I provided them email headers & it was clearly showing that the mail was delivered to burst, later they said that the mail was delivered but was not reached to their support desk & they reactivated my server. There was 5 - 6 hrs down time , while there was no fault from me. See the screen shots below: ....

My Review To CH Hosting
This is my opinion and experience to CH Hosting or chhost.net after purchased their VPS promotion plan. Not long ago, just almost a week. I has been read thru again the threat that I asked in WHT regarding any existing review to CH Hosting before i purchase, and now I aware about the connection speed which is shared among the VPSes (anyway i'm just a beginner to VPS after reseller world, wanna sharing the performance of this host). The first impression to me of this host is, the fast activation speed after payment make. I had received the activation email with details of login info and ip within 10 minutes. However, at start i'm not able to access to my vps via ssh until i tried few more times after another 5 minutes (maybe the their system is creating the vps? that's why not able to access ssh at start, i believed). Besides, I also try to access to their vps control panel. They are using solusvm, which is famous now in the forums. In the control panel, clearly stated the dedicated and burstable ram, bandwidth used, what OS and ip address. There provide few OS template for end user to select such as centos5 32bit, centos5 32bit with webmin or cpanel ...etc. I had selected the OS centos5 with webmin (wanna try something "new" to me before cpanel and I reload it just with a click. YES! reload completed, I successfully access to the webmin admin page within few minutes! So far, after almost a week, there was no downtime occurred (touch wood, i don't want this anyway!). But, only that, some times, when i raised support ticket, the respond was a bit slow, about 3 ~ 4 hours respond time. They still need to improve on this. Anyway, their stability is good.... My scoring to CH Hosting: VPS Quality: 9 / 10 (so far no issue yet, anyway only almost a week. Still have to evaluate further) Support Quality: 7 / 10 (slow respond sometime observed, but normally in 3 hours) Attitute to customers: 9 / 10 (the support staff - Jeff is nice and always willing to help) Reliability: not sure, only almost a week with them, i'll stay longer with them to evaluate their performance further. As I mentioned earlier this is my personal opinion and experience with CH Hosting. Never try never knew.

Signed on with [url] sometime back to give them a shot after seeing their signature here on WHT. The sign-up process was very simple and fast. They accept all major billing methods. I submitted 2-3 tickets over a course of 6-months. All of them where general questions, nothing was wrong with the service. There response time each time was under an hour. The servers are always up and and the company notifies of any updates regularly. Im very impressed with this company. Since ive signed up i havent had to worry about a single issue or downtime. Been with them going on 1-year and i have no intentions of ever switching. Best experience i have had with a hosting company so far.
