View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a client on a dedicated IP, today we needed to downgrade the web hosting plan. As the web hosting plan puts users on a default shared IP, this plan change also changed the dedicated IP to the shared one causing some propagation issues for a small period of time.
I have contacted WHMCS about this asking if they had a way of changing the clients plan but keeping the IP address intact as this could lead to some very undesirable outcomes. They explained that it is not their fault and to contact Parallels.
I know I can change the plan directly in Plesk however by initiating the plan change via WHMCS, everything is automated.
Has anyone helped clients transition from one domain to another? Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created.
2 Issues:
#1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect
We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file
Redirect 301 / [url]
The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. OldWebsite.com/contact.html) redirected to their new website (i.e. NewWebsite.com/contact.html). Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on???
#2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? What's the easiest way to do this? So what people see in search engines is:
New Company
Short Meta Description
www.OldDomain.com
What steps did I miss in this transition?
What steps do I have to take on their old website/old web server to control it's appearance on search engines and make sure people get to the new website?

i've set all folders, sub folder and files under this folder to be 777 since it is a folder for my users to upload attachments~
however this is the problem. users all failed to upload because the permission of the new folder created by apache for the users to store their attachment are set to 755, which i wanted them to be 777. (those 777 folders were from old server.)
if u take a look at the pic attached , you know what i meant. does anyone have any idea of how i can change the permission for this whole foder to be 777 even with folder created by apache?
i tried chmod -r 777 attachment, but it says operation not permitted @@

I only have SSH access to the server. I wish to use CoreFTP to transfer some webpage files to /var/www folder. I can login the server using CoreFTP's SSH/SFTP and it displays all the files and directories, but I do not have the permission to write.
My question is, how do I give myself permission to write? Here is the id of my user:

The weird thing is, when that error comes, will appear on all other forums in the same time in his reseller!

I own a website for free online game and I really need an answer for this.
Is it illegal to take a game that people shared on newgrounds, or some other "Free
Online Games" website? I'm not making any money off the game, there is no affiliate, nothing. I'm just adding it to my website for more people to play.
It's like Promoting their game, and I don't take any credit for it whatsoever.
Is that illegal to do with out any permission?
I was wondering: say I have a website where users discuss different articles and when a user wants to discuss a specific article, he/she will be able to link to that article and then say what they have to say.
Certainly, copying and pasting would violate the site's copyright but simply including a little link sounds like a legal alternative. Is it really? Or, technically that would still require me as the webmaster, or the user who posted it to request permission just for linking?
I know nobody would care because it only gives more traffic to the site but legally, would permission be needed?
I'm trying connect to the server via ssh and i get an error -
Permission denied (publickey).
Following information has been provided for me help to access the server, but it seems i'm not familiar how to use that info ....
I noticed very strange file permission behaviour, which not always intherid child permission from parent. Detailed problem description is below.
I have "c:File" directory with IUSR permission.
If I run one .NET application(exe) from Administrator account and try to create new file with that application in c:File directory, the newly created file with that application do not has IUSR permission.
If I run notepad and save txt file into that directory, it has IUSR permission.
Can anyone explain what is going on? Why file created with first .NET aplication do not inherit permission from folder?
I have problem with a file permission on FreeBSD.
The permission of that file is 0000, so I tried to change that
permission using chmod command. However, I got the following error:
chmod: file.php: Operation not permitted
I know that I have to check for file attributes. In redhat I used to
check that using lsattr command. However, I couldn't find it anywhere in FreeBSD.
Anyone here aware of an equivalent command that check file attributes?
I made a copy of my forum's root folder using SSH command: cp -r forum forum123
Then I tried to update the new (forum123) folder with the latest files from vBulletin.
And it gave me a permission denied error. For test purpose, I went to the original folder and uploaded one of the new files there and it worked flawlessly.
Why am I not able to upload files to the copied folder? I've been doing this since like for ever, this is the first time I've encountered such an error.
what folder permissions should be set to so that:
php scripts can read/write/delete files and browsers can see them.
Would it be 744?
I'd like to know how to secure an SMF site. Is the default permission good enough?
