Is there a way to tar a compiled apache/php installation and move it to another identical server?
If on the first server I specify all the configure options for both apache and php to point to /usr/local/apache2 for example, and then tar apache2 dir and untar it on another server will everything work just like it should? Or do I need to compile apache/php from scratch on the second server.
It would be nice to just be able push the apache/php tar file on to the new provisioned server and be ready to go.
Has anyone done this before, what is the best way to do this and are there any issues to look for.
I am trying to deploy siteminder web agent on apache web server. They have a pre-req which says that while installing apache server, "install as a service, available for all users" "When an Apache-based web server is installed using a single user account, the Agent configuration cannot detect the Apache-based web server installation."
I don't see any msi installer anymore for apache web server, which had this option to select while installing. Now all i see is a zip file and i just have to unzip as part of installation. With this when I install httpd as a service, it is not detected by siteminder agent. So how can I set this "install as a service, available for all users" after installing from zip file?
when i check apache status, i see one domain send many request to server, for example: domain.com 10.20.30.40 domain.com 10.20.30.40 domain.com 10.20.30.40 domain.com 10.20.30.40 domain.com 10.20.30.40 - - - how can i prevent this problem? this problem tease me and my server, because induce apache to work unremitting. Ram Usage is: 65%!
When I go to the [URL] ... is loads the index page just fine. When I go use the [URL] .... it still loads the index page, I don't want it to do that, I want it it to load test.php. When I click on a link (for say [URL] ....) on index.php the url stays as [URL] ....; I actually want it to show [URL] .... (while I test things at least). Is this a .htaccess issue?
As you can see my apache is full of Reading connections..... they are filling up my server dening legitimate users to browse trought the websites hosted there... I think this is what is happening to me: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_...l.gmail.com%3E

Is there some sort of limit to the size of a file that apache will serve?
We have three virtual hosts on our Apache 2.2 installation on Windows Server 2003. For some reason, I'm unable to open log files (error.log and each virtual hosts-specific log), even though I have full administrator rights. (The log folder is full access to admins.) Every time I try to open the file or even copy it to another location, it just says "Access Denied." I temporarily solved the issue for one of the logs by adding BufferedLogs On
I'm wondering whether it is possible to perform a full server migration to a new Plesk server with the same hostname or will Plesk give an error about the hostname being the same?
The new server would not be accessible by hostname (only via IP) until DNS and glue records were changed after the migration.
I'm going to be moving to a new server soon. Does anyone have a list, or recommended reading describing what one needs to do when moving to a new server?
I can't seem to find any info on this.. probably because i'm not wording it correctly
I have a dedicated server plan for a few months now and host a few sites. I noticed my IIS log files were rather large and found that its loaded with 404s - over 50,000/day.
Based on the referrer data in the log file, one domain in particular was the main culprit. After contacting the webmaster, he replied that he used to have a dedicated server (same provider) with the same IP address as mine. I don't know why but a lot of his web content used explicit IP address rather than domain name. He purged a few bad references but the problem is he had a gaming site using flash games and there are literally thousands of swf files distributed in many places all referencing my IP.
I guess my question is - Is this a fairly normal occurrence and simply just a nuisance?
I estimate that it's costing me < 10GB/month in bandwidth based on number of 404s and the size of the 404.htm (2k). Should I be taking other action? Sorry for long-winded explanation.
I have a VPS with cPanel/WHM version 11,and since 2 days ago for now apaent reason I cant access the WHM/cPanel interface.I contacted my webhost and they suggested to reinstall the Apache.Could someone tell me the command to do so via SSH?
What is the fastest way to move all accounts from old servers to new servers with minimum downtime for customers' websites? Both servers are using WHM/Cpanel and i need to keep reseller priviledges and packages also, which system files should i copy to new server?
I've been with LayeredTech and my yearly renewal is up. Their pricing went up significantly, so I'm shopping at SoftLayer amongst others. My site gets roughly 700k unique visitors and 1.8 million pageviews. These numbers will likely go up. I run vBulletin and Joomla dbs. I have two identical servers (one has cPanel). They are configured:
The webserver uses Litespeed as an apache replacement.
Q: They are offering upgrades to either Xeon 5320 or 5335. Does anyone have a recommendation on either?
Q: I've heard that database servers don't necessarily need as much spec wise as webservers. Should I upgrade my webserver? Downgrade the mySQL server?
Unfortunately, I need to make this move today to get the pricing and put the wheels in motion, so I don't get billed by Layered Tech for 1 year of service.
I have purchaseed server hosting with with domain, now I want to move this site on another server I asked my old server administrator to give domain registration detail but he said he can't because there are lot more site he had registered from that account Can any one give me solution on this?

I was just wondering is it possible to move a directory to another server through SSH?
I bought a website a few weeks ago and I have all the files on the server except 30gb of content, now I've tried to put the folder into a tar archive but every time I try it brings up this error:
So I need a way to drag that folder from the old server to my new server through SSH because it will take me ages downloading and uploading all the content.
