Migration Of A Website To A Different Server

Nov 2, 2008

I installed a working website created in a php4.4.6, Apache3.33.39, MySQL3.23.32 server to a php 5.2.6, Apache1.3.33, MySQL2.9.2 server.

.htacess worked fine with the following code on the old server for its dynamic pages:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)-s.html$ index.php?section=$1

Website Migration - Win+ASP To Linux+PHP

Oct 2, 2007

I've been charged with migrating an existing live website (about 70,000 impressions per day) written (very badly) in ASP and hosted on a windows box (well, 2 boxes, load balanced, running IIS) over to a new system, which i'm currently designing in PHP to run in a typical LAMP environment.

My main goal for the migration is to do it transparently. Currently the site, and associated 'web services', are used by several affiliates and related businesses, and I want to move them over to the new system without them even knowing anything's changed, to minimise any potential upsets or overall downtime.

So my first task is to find a way to make a request for file.asp on the windows box be silently passed on to file.php on the linux box, and the results passed back up the chain to the original HTTP request. i'm slightly familiar with IIS and i've looked around but short of 300-series HTTP reponse codes, which won't work, i can't see any method of redirection built-in to IIS. Is there something i'm missing, or is the only way to achieve this going to be adding code into file.asp to go off and call file.php over HTTP itself, as a sort of 'pass through' function?

Apache :: Website Migration To New / Identical Webserver

Sep 12, 2013

I moved a tomatocart website with its database, www-root. + keeping all its file and folder permissions. The username on the new server is the same, same id same name same permissions ect. The database name is the same the passwords are the same, location of www-root server same.

The website works it fetches and stores in the mysql database. At the old server with the same tomatocart website you could browse to example domain. ex/1-catagory-bananas and you would see a nice grid of bananas you can order. But there is no folder 1-catagory-bananas on the old or new server you just stay on the index.php but the url goes exampledomain.ex/1-catagory-bananas and the viewed website reloads

On the new server with the same URL i get a "NOT FOUND /1-catagory-bananas ect."so the website works perfeclty on the new server?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Full Server Migration To New Server With Same Hostname?

Jul 20, 2015

I'm wondering whether it is possible to perform a full server migration to a new Plesk server with the same hostname or will Plesk give an error about the hostname being the same?

The new server would not be accessible by hostname (only via IP) until DNS and glue records were changed after the migration.

I received this emails from Leaseweb

1st:

Dear Mr.

I would like to inform you about the planned migration of your shared hosting account to a new hosting environment. This concerns the domain xx***********. The migration will start on: 29-10-2009 during business hours.

Are you OK with us to give it another run tomorrow? Please indicate a No in case this is inconvinient to you, if there is noanswer we assume that there is not a problem and we will work on thetransder again tomorrow.

3rd email:

Dear Customer,
The transfer of your webpackage to one of our new shared hosting servershas been completed.

--------------------------------------

Now my Oscommerce site is down:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in /vhosts/xxx***********/httpdocs/catalog/index.php on line 314

I checked line 314 of index.php does not have ';'
My site admin side is working.

Server Migration, Need To Sync DBs

Aug 24, 2007

I have a web app that uses MSSQL Server 2005 as it's DB.

I am moving this web app to a new server (new IP addresses)

Once the DNS progation is complete, I need to then syncronize the data between the old DB/server and the new DB/server.

how to sync two MSSQL 2005 dbs?

Or is there another migration technique? (my hoster won't do any IP forwarding in their hardware)

Server Migration...... Seeksadmin Support

Jul 5, 2008

I Foolishly entrusted a server migration to seeksadmin recently... however they seem unable to provide the required level of support to complete this task... Up to now the average response time per query is between 12 to 24 hours... amazing as we have paid for one hour response package.

We have a small window of opportunity to complete a seemless migration tonight... but again seeksadmin are nowhere to be seen...

We have coordinated with our datacentre and informed our customers that the move will take place tonight, however seeksadmin are either asleep or just can't be bothered to respond... which leaves us with no other option than to try and locate an alternative support company to assist with this migration...

All accounts are copied... it is just a case of hardening the server and installing third party softwares, ensuring all data is up to date and addressing any issues which may arise...

Can anyone suggest a tech/support company who can help out at short notice? Migration will start at CET 01:00 and needs to be completed during the night before my users come back online in the morning...

CPanel Data Migration And New Server Security Setup

Dec 4, 2008

I just signed up for dedicated server at Softlayer with cPanel, mySQL and CentOS. I'm moving a site that is on a VPS with WHM. I know that cPanel has a transfer site feature.

I was considering hiring a service to migrate my site and to harden my server. Is this necessary or should I simply move it via cPanel? Things are tight and I don't want to incur an unnecessary cost if I don't have to. I defer to the members here at WHT for your recommendations.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Domain Migration To New Server / What To Do With Email During DNS Update

Jun 4, 2014

I have upgraded to a new server and need to move all domains, users, and most important all email accounts to the new server.

Both servers run Plesk 11.0.9 on CentOS. The migration manager works great, no problems with that.

After migrating, I change my DNS settings at an external DNS provider to the new IP. The problem is, DNS changes take time. I then get emails on the old server and on the new server until DNS information is spread.

I was searching for a way to let the old server forward to the new one, but changes for specific domains in plesks DNS system (MX record) on the old server did not work. The mails still arrived at the old server.

What can i do? Can I uncheck "Activate mail service on domain" and will all emails be rejected until DNS points to the new server? Or will that lead to bounces?

Plesk 12.x / Windows :: Backup And Restore - After Server Migration Some Settings Not Copied Across

Dec 22, 2014

After a server migration, some critical Plesk settings were not copied across, even though the option to backup/restore panel configuration was used. e.g.

skeleton (vhosts.skel folder)
php.ini (Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskAdditionalPleskPHP5* folder)
Default site (vhostsdefault folder)
health config (Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskadminconfcustom-health-config.xml)
Additional Administrator accounts

Is there a way to get these things to backup and restore that I am doing wrong?

Are there other important settings/data that I have missed from that list? I am still paying to keep the old server in case I discover something else!

Using Plesk Backup & Restore for disaster recovery will lose these settings unless they take extra steps. e.g. I now have a simple batch file that copies these files to a private folder on one of the domains before the daily backup kicks in.

Plesk 11.x / Windows :: Migration - DNS Server Does Not Support Networks In Transfer Restrictions Template

The records with network IP addresses in the DNS transfer restrictions will not be restored."

I've gone to Server, DNS Settings, Transfer Restriction Template and added the new server's IP to the list of allowed networks to no avail. I also couldn't find any documentation on what the cause might be.

Plesk 12.x / Windows :: Migration Tool To Move Websites From Old IIS6 To New IIS8.5 Server

Jan 23, 2015

We are migrating an existing multi-site Windows2003/IIS6 web hosting system with

CFusion8
MS Access backend databases
SQL2000 backend databases
http and https site access

to

Windows2012 R2/IIS8.5 with
CFusion10
MS Access backend databases (not updated)
SQL2014 databases
http and https site access

On the new system we are looking to add Plesk12 to give users easier management of their own websites.I am about to install the trail version of Plesk12 WebHOST.I have the following questions:

1. Can we use the plesk migration tool to move the websites from the old IIS6 to the new IIS8.5 server?
2. If not, am I right to think we would migrate from IIS6 to IIS8.5 manually and then import these websites into Plesk12 from the new server?
3. Can I migrate the existing websites piecemeal over onto the new server and into the Plesk control panel at the same time as creating brand new websites under the control panel?
4. Once Plesk is installed on the new IIS server is there a KB article on how to add all these existing websites to Plesk - I could not find one.
5. Is the local windows administrator account used for the install used to run any services?

Website Pop Up Issues On Server

Apr 20, 2007

I am having pop-ups issues on my website. Previously I tried to solve it out but wasn't able to because due to 64 bit of Windows 2003 most of the softwares were having compatibility issues. But now when I have switched the server to 32-bit, on the new server, the website is still having the pop-ups. I have tried a couple of softwares to detect them, but in vain.

I am getting out of ideas now. Can someone help or suggest me something in this regard?
