Migration From Cpanel Add On Domains To Own WHM And Cpanels With Individual Accounts
Mar 29, 2008
I have a dedicated server, and I need to migrate a client who has with me an account with Cpanel and add on domains, and now is upgrading his account to one of my resellers accounts plans.
It has now assigned 2 dns:
ns1.maindomain.com.mx IP--> xxx.xx.x.65
ns2.maindomain.com.mx IP--> xxx.xx.x.66
and he does not want to use this dns's anymore, so, he registered a new domain otherdomain.com to have new dns's
I already create the dns zones for that domain and assigned 2 more IP's:
ns1.otherdomain.com --> xxx.xx.xx.17
ns2.otherdomain.com --> xxx.xx.xx.18
(both different from the first ones)
The problem I have is how to separate accounts from the Cpanel add on domains and assigned them individually to a WHM, for my client to create packages and manage his own reseller accounts, without loosing any information at all.
I know that he already has a WHM with the maindomain.com.mx as his main account, but when he signs in to the actual WHM, he see just one account maindomain.com.mx
So, can you tell me how to migrate all the Cpanel add on domains to the new otherdomain.com reseller account (is already created also) with its own Cpanel each one of the 15 domains he has.
Details of my dedicated server:
WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.3-R21703
CENTOS Enterprise 5 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0
Apache 2.0.63
PHP Version: 5.2.5

I'm getting following errors while migrating my accounts from latest version of cPanel:
Code:
Warning:
Couldn't get 'cgi_bin_mode' attribute for domain where cgi-bin dir is '' and docroot dir is '/home/inofash/public_html'. Domain will be migrated in that way as if its cgi-bin directory was located under docroot.
Because of that none of my accounts can't be migrated.

I just tried westhost. Very nice folks, good reviews, worth a shot. I signed up for a regular hosting account that allows multiple domains. That didn't work for email. An email user has access to email under that users name for all domains attached to the account. so you can't have info@abc.com, info@def.com, etc. One info@ per account. I did find a hack for it, but it wouldn't work with web mail.
So now I need to find a host that separates mail by domain WITH webmail.
This is getting so tiresome. I have a VPS with "the planet", but so many things just don't work out of the box. I've been fighting with them about PHP not sending mail for months. DNS problems everytime I setup a new domain. There has to be an easier way!
15 domains, everything needs to work. I don't want to manage anything. No resellers. The company I host with will own the data center.

I am having a site developed that will have a "front end" - ie the actual website with a login members area etc. The "back end" will be a set of scripts that work behind the scenes, including a bot that visits other sites and passes info to those sites.
The concern I have is, if I put the whole lot on one Cpanel, and then it gets whacked by a surge of traffic etc, the "back end" will crash as well.
My question is, would it be better to host the site itself on one cpanel account, but store the Db and the back end scripts on another cpanel, both on the same server. Then even if the site cpanel maxes out or crashes, the processes will continue to run? The site itself would also need to access the Db stored on the second cpanel.

I have a couple questions maybe some of you can help me with -
I have a dedicated server and many hosted customers, I want to setup SSL for IMAP email and their cpanels.
Instead of purchasing individual SSL certificates for each domain. I was thinking to just use my hostanme (eg host.myhostname.net) and direct them to that as I have seen the option in WHM.
My question is can I use an SSL cert for email that will act as a "fleetwide" SSL cert?
For example instead of using mail.theirdomain.com could I just use mail.myhostname.com and would it give them SSL without warnings? Of course they would set their email client to mail.myhostname.com..
Is it safe or recommend to use your hostname? I read somewhere to never use your hostname as a domain.. so not sure.

What is an alternative to help reduce the massive amounts of cpu resources a CPanel Backup Wizard causes when doing generating a full backup?

Is there any reason to have each website on a seperate hosting account(security/optimization etc).
I am with enom and I have bandwidth of 200gb a month for a pretty low price -basically nothing. So at the moment I have 4 websites on this hosting package, each one limited to 50gb bandwidth a month. At the moment I get a couple of visitors a day on each, and when I get more I can upgrade the bandwidth as much as I need to(but even if I didnt upgrade, this 50gb a month would allow me 50,000 visitors downloading 1mb each). My question is, is there any reason to move each site to a seperate hosting package? It is easier to manage all the sites from a single hosting account but I wonder if there is a security issue(like if one site gets hacked they might all go down), or maybe databases would run faster or something?

I hope some of you are using Google Apps and can help me to find an answer to the following question:
I own two different and independent domain names (e.g. domain1.com and domain2.com).
I'd like to use the Google Apps (Standard, free edition) with them to create two different and totally independent mailboxes (e.g. abc@domain1.com and xyz@domain2.com).
But how many Google accounts I need to do this? Can I manage two (or more) independent and fully functional domains using one Google account?
P.S.
Help section contains descriptions of aliases for multiple domains, which are just pointers or shortcuts, but not a fully functional mailboxes, so this solution isn't something I'm looking for.

I'm trying to use the "mysqldump" command to get a copy of all databases on the server...
but I need each database to go into a "databaseXYZ.tar.gz" file.
Does anyone know how to do this? So far, I can only get all the databases into a single file. But I need each database to have its own file.

I have a total of 3 web servers:
x1 gateway.domain.com:443 (Using as a proxy to web1 and web2)
x1 web1.domain.com:443
x1 web2.domain.com:443
I was able to have gateway.domain.com play nicely with a wildcard certificate and handshake perfectly with web1 and web2. Now currently, web1 and web2 have their own SSL certificates while gateway has a wildcard cert for *.domain.com. Is it necessary to have certs on all 3 servers or just have the single wildcard cert on gateway.domain.com?

I tried to harden our plesk servers and encountered a problem with switching to individual dh keys.We are running Postfix version 2.9.6-2 on Debian 7 boxes with Plesk 12.First I removed SSLv3 and limited the Ciphers as proposed on the Guide to Deploying Diffie-Hellman for TLS. All excluded Ciphers won't be served. Never the less the newly created individual 2048bit DH key under /etc/ssl/dhparam.pem would not be used.
The test-tool: [URL].... can check for ports. So when I check port 25, I get the message, that the server is not vulnerable, but that I should turn on ECDH.I checked the postfix documentation. I´ve kept the master.cf as is and changed the main.cf to this:
smtpd_use_tls = yes
smtpd_tls_security_level=may
smtpd_tls_cert_file=/opt/psa/admin/conf/httpsd.pem
smtpd_tls_key_file=/opt/psa/admin/conf/httpsd.pem
smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache
smtpd_tls_mandatory_protocols = !SSLv2,!SSLv3
[code]....
Do I have to modify the master.cf as well?Here I found entries for every domain/ip:
plesk-domainname.com-1.2.3.4 - unix - n n - - smtp -o smtp_bind_address=1.2.3.4 -o smtp_bind_address6= -o smtp_address_preference=ipv4 -o smtp_ helo_ name=domainname.com
Do I have to add the -o smtpd_tls_dh1024_param_file=$submission_tls_dh1024_param_file to those entries? I want to keep the setting permanent. I experienced in the past, that plesk tends to overwrite the setting I´ve made.

I have a really urgent problem.
I signed up for a new WHM/CPanel reseller account, and want to transfer my sites from an existing reseller account (also WHM/CPanel) with a new (very well-known & positiviely-reviewed) provider.
(I'm moving because the new host offers services my existing host doesn't.)
Now, I have moved a reseller account from one WHM/CPanel host to another before without any issues.
But this time - moving from my current host to the new account - it doesn't work.
This is the error my *new* host got when transferring one of my clients' accounts:
*********************************************
/scripts/restorepkg /home/migrate/backup-10.27.2009_06-42-18_abiaheno.tar.gz
Using backup archive
cPanel restorepkg 2
cPanel user: abiaheno
Force Mode: no
Reseller Privs Restore: yes
Searching /home/migrate....
Found backup-10.27.2009_06-42-18_abiaheno.tar.gz !
Extracting tarball...................
Done
Extracting Domain....Done
Sorry, the copy failed. Unable to find the cpanel user file. Is the archive missing (cwd: /home/migrate/cprestore loaded backup-10.27.2009_06-42-18_abiaheno/cp/abiaheno)?
checked 6 files.....
***************************************************************
They told me to ask my current host to fix whatever's wrong. I did so, and his response was, (paraphrasing) "I'll submit a bug report to CPanel, but it will take quite a while for us to get an answer, and we backup and restore websites every day so I don't think there's a problem."
I'm very frustrated, and desperate to get this migration done. I've notified my own hosting clients that a move is imminent, and they are all holding off on updating their own sites until the migration is done. This was all supposed to be done yesterday, so I'm getting so anxious and think I'm losing credibility with my clients every moment.
my question is, does anyone have experience with this type of issue, and what can cause the error mentioned above?

I´m gonna migrate my server with Plesk 8.4 to Cpanel 11.24 in the next days using a manual method (account transfer failed in my test, i guess it is not fully functional).
Creation of accounts and migration of databases is already done, but i have some doubts with email account transfers:
1) Cpanel and Plesk, share the maildir format for messages. A transfer of email messages should be smooth, just copying the data of this directory´s.
Plesk directory: /var/qmail/mailnames/domain.com/user/Maildir/
Cpanel directory: /home/domain/mail/domain.com/user
Is it ok?
2) Is there any way of migrate usernames/passwords to cpanel without recreate accounts (with a new password) and copy the email messages?

Although I can easily migrate the databases and website data, I am not certain what I should do with emails, as I have four clients whom all use emails.
