for setup and configuration instructions for setting up mail server on a Fedora Core 6 server. I googled it and most of the links are described with steps while installing OS, but i need to configure a mail server on a server where my site is already running.
I've virtual dedicated server with goDaddy and i need to upgrade the server Operating system from Fedora Core 4 to Fedore Core 6 and for which i need to backup my site. I am usually doing like this.
1. make a tar ball of all the files and ftp to my local Fedora core 7 desktop 2. Running MySQL administrator from my local Fedora core 7 desktop and connecting to my site database server and finally saving the .sql file.
Now i need to go for upgrading operating system on the hosted server and i would like to make sure whether i'm doing the right way for backing up my server. Will i be able to restore back my site?
how to install Ubuntu (either 7.10 or 8.04) as a XEN domU guest on a CentOS 5 / Fedora Core 8 XEN dom0 server?
I have tried installing Ubuntu as a fully virtualized guest, but the Ubuntu CD doesn't even bootup. I get the Linux bootloader, and that's it,it doesn't continue to boot. Odd.
When trying to install a Paravirtualized guest, I had to use the debootstrap method, but can't get it to boot up.

I want to setup a mail server on a CentOS box on a cable connection via comcast. We have a commerical account with one IP address only but the server will be behind a router.
Will I have to manually assign the server an ip address? As of right now I cant see the server from the outside. What will I have to do to have email route to that box?
I work for an ISP providing service to several thousand customers...
We are now taking on multi-millions of emails everyday (sometimes over a billion) (we purchased a couple of smaller ISPs and moved them to our mailserver)
Since the move from their old servers to the new... our uptime on our pop3/smtp server ran about 11... we had to institute a mail filtering server... it was getting around 2500 concurrent connections to the server and running an even higher uptime, and delaying emails around 8 minutes per message!
Our POP3/SMTP server is Redhat 9 (I know its old, but it still runs good) (Dual Xeon 2.8 HT 2 GB RAM NO RAID)... our frontend filtering server is FreeBSD (Dual Xeon 3.06 2 GB RAM RAID5)
Needless to say our current setup cannot handle the amount of email being processed... We need to implement amavisd back into the filtering equation so that spamassassin will filter mail based on the user preferences and delivered to procmail to our POP3/SMTP server so that it has no load basically...
SO what I want to do is this (please correct anywhere im going wrong):
I want to have a main incoming mail processing server (does RBL rejects and anything left over it will pass on to another server)
But the kicker is, I want the mail processing server to do this (we will call it mx1.troubledisp.com):
Incoming Mail->mx1.troubledisp.com
mx1.troubledisp.com->mx2.troubledisp.com (But I want 3 servers in the middle, mx2, mx3,mx4)
Basically I want one message to go to one server, one to go to another, and so on... So basically EVERY message that comes in will go to a different mx server, not just loading up 1 server until it cant process anymore....
Then after it is processed it needs to go to the original mail.troubledisp.com
i try to install ispconfig panel con my vps fedora core 6
but i see this error

I just want to use a server for file sharing, it will have nginx and that's it. I'm looking at centos, or freebsd, but I been using centos forever now and I'm not sure how to use freebsd, should I just stay with centos?
Do I tell my hosting provider to just install the OS and give me ssh action and that's it? Don't install any control panels or any other stuff? I want one domain and one subdomain on it though and ftp action.
After being screwed by Dawson and fumiNET, my server was reinstated by BurstNET (thanks BurstNET). However, the few interactions I had with them gave me the impression that I would be better off with a slightly higher level of support, so I decided to go with PC-Core.net. Cody is a decent sort of chap, and was very patient and helpful during the pre-sales period. I wanted to just transfer my BurstNET (nee' fumiNET) box to PC-Core, but that couldn't be done - so, a new box was deployed and everything was transferred from the old box to the new box.
However, things just never seemed to click right. I cancelled my server with PC-Core due to the following reasons: initial configuration was incorrect (misspelling of domain/host name, mistakes, incorrect settings) box was assigned banned (dirty) IPstech support informed me that I would have to report these myself to the banning agencies support tickets regarding this issue were closed before being resolved
after Cody's intervention, new IPs were finally assigned, butthe IPs were assigned on the day that I requested that it not be done configuration of box with new IPs was incorrect (misspelling of domain/host name, only one of 5 IPs was configured, incorrect settings)
box was down for nearly a week (which must certainly have exceeded the stated limit in the SLA)no compensation for downtime was offered my request (twice) for compensation was ignored
To be fair, during this whole process, Cody was always available and intervened to get things on track. However, Cody's intervention should not have been necessary, and worse, my requests for SLA compensation (sent directly to Cody) were ignored. This is unfortunate since the box (just before cancelling) finally seemed to be OK. I just got to the point that I had had enough - and I certainly felt that I was entitled to compensation for the headache and downtime.
I nearly decided to shut down my operation due to frustration, but I decided to give it one more shot and decided to try a fully managed VPS at WiredTree. I will post my impressions in the VPS forum regarding WiredTree - but in short, WT is ** AWESOME **.
Yes - capitalized, italicized, bolded, underlined, and flanked with stars.
I must also mention Josh from VolumeDrive. During my despair, and the search for another host (before just packing it in), Josh provided valuable advice and insight. Months earlier I went through a pre-sales process with him before eventually deciding on fumiNET, and in spite of this, Josh just picked up from where we left off - even though it was fairly evident that I wouldn't be going with him. I'm hoping that my sites become successful, just so that I can justify getting a server with VolumeDrive. THANKS JOSH
About to pickup a server strictly for use with MySQL databases.
Right now there's zero price difference between the Intel 5110 dual core and the 5310 quad cores. Looking around a bit online, it seems like the quad core is of no benefit (or lesser performance) than the dualie. That sql cannot take advantage of it yet.
Is this accurate? If so, where do quad core CPU's shine at this point in time?
I getting this error when our clients are sending mail from outlook but they are able to send mail from webmail.

Now the core files for example (core.18920) files are filling the server, here is a shot
-rw------- 1 someuser somegroup 3.9M Mar 17 16:15 core.18920
all server account have that files, all users how running php files in there websites have the core.**** files and all websites quote are going to be excceded
I guess the problem from apache, i do rebuilf using whm, but the same problem
I have 1 server so I setup dns as ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com ip address pointed to server1. So, now I just bought another server. Can I setup ns2.mydomain.com pointed to 2nd server. Also how to setup more servers ie. 10, 20 server because I can only set up to 6 dns in one domain name.
to setup a OpenVPN server on a Trixbox Server I'm running and tell us how to setup a Linksys router running DD-WRT Firmware to connect as a client. We need to make it so remote Cisco IP phones can connect to Trixbox.
I've not posted feedback for past providers that haven't been so good, but due to bad service and a lack of refund after nearly 2 weeks, I really need to post my situation.
The site is pc-core.net, and they have had some fairly decent offers going on WHT.
After 5 days of good service from the dedicated provider PC Core, I ran into possibly the worst 10 days of running a website I’ve ever encountered and a further 12 days without a refund.
Here’s my story.
I signed up for a dedicated host in September, and my machine was made active on 25/09.
The server went down 5 days later on 30/09, and it took more than 24 hours to get it back up. So now we’re running on late 01 Oct 2008, but slow and sometimes unresponsive. The site then goes down completely on 05 Oct 2008. A response on 06 Oct 2008 saying they’re looking into the situation. Had to then wait 2 days, and post 3 replies to get a response on 08 Oct 2008.
One last response on 09 Oct from support, then I had to update the ticket 10 times to get another reply on 14 Oct 2008.
The server was down for 9 days with little to no response from the tech support, despite me continually trying to contact them.
Server back online briefly, then down again on 15 Oct 2008. On 16 Oct 2008 I placed a ticket applying for a refund, which should be instant and my account cancelled instantly. Refund request finally got through on the 18th, server down but my account on their site is still live (so I’m still being invoiced via PayPal).
Their refund policy:
If for any reason you are unhappy with our service, and wish to leave during the first 30-days, PC Core will refund your purchase price less applicable fees in full.
It’s now 30 Oct and as I write this I’m still waiting for a refund (12 days waiting for a refund, still no response), still waiting for my account to be cancelled and I’ve posted numerous tickets asking for an update during the last 12 days.
I was told that they may pay me for the remaining days I had left after cancelling.
Surely a full refund is in order? Or at least the downtime and remaining time for the month.
I’ve been with 4,5 dedicated providers in the last two, three years but I have never seen any take more than 5 days to respond to server downtime, it’s appauling. The only thing going for the provider during my month with PC Core was that the staff were kind and helpful when they were around to give it.
I have a server running Fedora 4 and WHM/cPanel. I would like to upgrade the linux kernel to the latest version, so mosey in via SSH and type "yum -y upgrade". It downloads a few things and tells me everything is hunky dory.
Now, the version it says it is currently running is: 2.6.17-1.2142_FC4 #1 Tue Jul 11 22:41:14 EDT 2006
Is that the really the newest version available? Maybe I'm confused as to how this works, but if I go to kernel.org it tells me the most recent stable version of the kernel is 2.6.24.3. Is this because I am running FC4?
I have a big problem with this company. check this ticket:

Hi Marco,
I am sorry to inform you, but the data center screwed up and reformatted your server and reinstalled Windows. They misunderstood what we were telling them. We were talking about another server. I apologise and am seeing what I can do.

this is possible?, that I can take measures against this action because it hurts me greatly to my business
Interested in buying server quad core or even better 8x.20 or more with 8-16 GB ram, 1gbit ethernet port, more ips, if posible 255, no filters and if posible hardware router to prevent ddos problems, can someone suggest anything? The best solution for me would be somewhere in Germany/Austria/France/UK/than USA ...Europe is primary...
Approx how many COD4 slots do you think i could get on the following spec server
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz (1066FSB) 80GB Raptor 10,000RPM 2GB DDR2 RAM Linux OS or Windows XP Pro (not sure if I will fork out the extra for windows or not yet)
I have been shooting away a lot of questions on these forums lately, but you guys have been very helpful. Thanks.
My problem is this. We are going to get rackspace. Then we are going to purchase two servers. The first (WEB) is a httpd, dns, ftp, smtp, pop3 server. The second (DB) is purely a database server which will run mysql and mssql.
The first server (WEB) runs a asp/php applications that need to connect and talk with the database (DB) server.
I was thinking of only connection the WEB server to the physical internet through the co-location drop. Then connecting the WEB and DB server directly via a CAT6 cable. Both servers will have gigabit NIC cards. Then in theory in the asp/php applications all I have to do, is point them to the local ip address of the DB server as this should work.
Is this a good solution? Will speed be an issue, the delay from talking to the WEB server and talking to the DB server?
I was thinking this is more secure, because the WEB server is the only machine physically connected to the internet, the DB server is not. Though, is it true, if hackers compromise the web server, they then would be able to compromise the DB server as well via the WEB server?
I am open to suggestions though, and better ways of setting this up.
I'm running a message board and it looks like I've outgrown the low end xeon 3040 1.86GHz dual core server, and the bulk of the CPU load is going to mysqld. I'm debating between offloading the DB to a dedicated server vs upgrading the existing server and hosting the web server and db on the same machine.
Any thoughts on the better approach? fwiw, the load from apache seems next to nothing right now, but I am also planning on adding an SMTP server for user registrations and general support email.
I'm also not super familiar with dual-core and dual processor machines. Does shifting mysql to a dual core or dual proc machine help (vs a single core/single proc machine)? since there is just one mysql daemon, does having a second core or proc. buy me anything?
