My company is on the market for a new dedicated provider/server and I need to know what the best processor is to go with?
I'm looking for something in the multi-processor/multi-core range, basically an enterprise server that can later be load balanced or clustered in the near future.
Please only experienced professionals with this server range reply.
This is possibly not the best place for this question but none the less, I am giving it a shot.
to pickup a dedicated MySQL 5 server from Dell running Linux. I have the option of either getting:
(1x) Quad Core Xeon E5430 2x6MB Cache 2.66Ghz
OR
(2x) Quad Core Xeon E5405 2x6MB Cache 2.00Ghz
They are about the same price. What option is best? The 4 cores but 666mhz faster each core, or double the cores (8), but less mhz per core. Can MySQL 5 even use 8 cores effectivley?
is this any kind of Intel Processors comes with 32 Cores? Or can anyone Build Dedicated Server with 32 Cores?
As i see today someone offered me via Email Inter Xeon 7450 Processor with 32 Core!!!
So is it Right ?
which type of CPU would be better for a web server that will run Windows, PHP, ColdFusion, mail, DNS, and IIS. Would a dual core CPU with a higher clock speed do better than a quad core CPU with lower clock speed? For instance, would a dual core 3 Ghz processor do better than a quad core at 2.4Ghz?

Firstly I wonder if there is any possibility to limit the number of cores the plesk backup zipping tool uses? This pigz takes up all my CPU. Is there any way I can reduce the amount of cores it uses because all my websites are down every time a backup takes place for around 3 minutes.
Secondly I get the following in my syslog:
1 baby plesk sendmail[20189]: Error during 'check-quota' handler
I don't know what is wrong. I think it's since the upgrade to Plesk 12. I now have 12.0.18 Update #13.
I'm on a vps and sometimes hit 100% of my allowable cpu - this company allows me to burst to one cpu but no farther. I also have a new vps at Servint and have yet to learn their cpu allotments.
My older host that is hitting CPU limits and slowing and having times of outages, suggest i take their high end 4 CPU cores (Intel Clovertown E5310 or better), SAS/SCSI drives (in RAID), 8 GB memory for just $250/month (basic management, no control panel).
CPU is my weak point so should i consider 8 cores?
I can add 3 times the volume of traffic once I'm capable of handling it.
4 or 8 cores? How much more will 8 cores cost?
I am noticing that some hosts are now offering duel-core Atom Processors. Anyone have any experance with this (as a cPanel Hosting Server)
View 14 Replies View RelatedWe are comparing these 2 systems:
Intel Quad Core Q9300
4x2.5 GHz
250GB Sata HD
2 GB of ram
vs.
P4 3.0 w/ HT
250GB Sata HD
2 GB of RAM
Thoughts? Would the quad core blow the other away? We are looking to take 2 of the P4 and condense them into 1 of the Q9300...thoughts?
Has anyone done something like this?
How well does the Q9300 perform?
How much better are Xeon processors than Core 2 Duo processors? What goes into the brand difference? I know that they're built on the same architecture, but I'm unsure as to which is better.
I've got two choices, both Intel processors built on the Kentsfield Core 2 architecture.
Stats seem exactly alike, except one difference: the Core 2 Duo processor has a 9x multiplier (2.4GHz), while the Xeon processor has a 8x multiplier (2.13 GHz). I really see no advantage in taking the Xeon processor, which costs more. Multiplier difference shouldn't make a big deal.
So, anybody know what goes into the "Xeon" brand these days? The exact model numbers, by the way, are Q6600 for the Core 2 Duo and X3210 for the Xeon.
I am looking at some options for a server and have a dual processor question.
I am looking at a server with two Dempsey 5050 processors.
My question is this.
Is it possible to put two Dempsey 5050 processors in a server and turn one of them off so it can not be used?
I know some are going to say why do i want to do this and I might as well explain it now to get it out of the way. My colo will not let me keep space parts on hand and I have a client that may want to single Dempsey 5050 processor in his server and I would like to keep one Dempsey 5050 on hand as a spare for my server and other servers that use the Dempsey 5050 processor. I figured if put one on a board that supports two Dempsey 5050's and turn it off it would be like keeping a spare on hand.
I just got an Atom 330 and it shows that i have 4 Cores. Is it normal?
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep Atom

servers for a freehosting project and came across a good quote on some dual quad core amds for $320 a month. Is this about right? I don't want to give the exact location away as this was a custom quote but it's located in chicago. The network is Internap FCP optimized with internap, level3, and comcast.
Specs:
Quad Core AMD OpteronŽ 2376; 2.3 GHz,6M Cache,1Ghz HyperTransport
2 x 500GB 7.2K RPM Serial ATA 3Gbps 3.5-in Cabled Hard Drive
RAID1
16GB (4x4GB), 800MHz, Dual Ranked
I might get a couple more for virtualization.
I'm contemplating whether to get a quad core high clock speed OR 2x quad core lower clock speed processor for my rack server.
The question boils down to.. Does Apache, PHP, and MySQL support multi-threading? Will having a bunch of cores just be a waste if high-traffic web hosting is the primary goal?
I run a PHP/MySQL intensive shopping cart.
I've spend some time today in reading about different Intel based processors. I'm learning fast (I didn't know too much about chips... untill now ) but there is something I still need to ask, since I didn't find an answer. So:
Which Quad-Core Xeon processor (from low cost ones) do you like more?
... Kentsfield, Yorkfield, Clovertown, Clovertown" (low voltage), Harpertown, Harpertown (low voltage).
From waht I saw I could guess that Clovertown is the most popular...?
"The purpose of irqbalance is distribute hardware interrupts across processors on a multiprocessor system in order to increase performance."
If I'm running a Xeon Quad, do I really need irqbalance running?
The code name for the upcoming 12 cores cpu from amd will be named Shanghai. It will be based on 45 nanometer.
But will 12 cores really be necessary for small/medium websites? not to mention the big ones?

what is the fast and best way?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering whether it is possible to perform a full server migration to a new Plesk server with the same hostname or will Plesk give an error about the hostname being the same?
The new server would not be accessible by hostname (only via IP) until DNS and glue records were changed after the migration.

We do not offer Plesk or cPanel.
Which Linux do you want installed on the server ?
I plan to install Joomla and AmemberPro software on this server
Joomla Requirements:
"Basically any Linux distribution will be fine, but for Security and Stability Debian, for useability and ease of maintenance Fedora/CentOS"
AmemberPro Requirements
* PHP version 4.1.0 or newer;
* MySQL version 3.23 or newer;
* Apache WebServer (it usually only installed on Unix hostings, and almost never on Windows);
* Ability to run one ionCube Loader or Zend Optimizer.
So far I was developing site in HTML only. I used to host them on windows based server. I use to place site in web folder using filezilla program
Now i have taken space on Linux server. I would like to know how host files on that as I have developed site in php with mysql as database with local apache server. It works ok offline.
I would like to know

so far i've tried installing mod_mono, both via whm as well as manually. also tried the perl module APACHE:ASP but no matter what i do it doens't work, a sample .asp page just shows regular code.
i've been told to try out chillisoft's ASP server (now owned by sun).
before i devote any more time or potentially waste more time on this, could someone point me out to a solution that actually WORKS? most of these tutorials i'm seeing are years old and most don't even work...
