View 14 RepliesI've come across an issue where our users are not logging out of their terminal services session properly. Whether via TSWeb or MSTSC (remote desktop), if they close the browser or RDP window using the x it keeps the session alive for upto 1 minute.
The problem with this is that we use terminal services to host an application for users who can't install it, so other users that login (using a generic username and password) are adopting/hijacking the original session and seeing someone elses data.
Does anyone know of a way to force a new session each time a user connects to RDP? Whether via TSWeb or MSTSC (remote desktop)?
how customers feel about being forced to use secure protocols?
For example on a cPanel server this would mean:
FTP: requires authentication over TLS
SMTP: relay requires SMTP authentication over TLS.
POP3: requires SSL
IMAP: requires SSL
cPanel: only https port enabled.
WHM: only https port enabled.
Webmail: only https port enabled.
Honestly, I don't think most customers would notice the difference so long as they were initially configured using secure protocols.
Combined with forcing reasonably strong passwords this should prevent a lot of iframe injection issues and SPAM related issues.
Could you guys look and see if what I am seeing is right? They offer Global Crossing and Cogent officially. So if I use GLBX looking glass, I get this.

one.com (aka the worst webhost ever) are holding my domain to ransom they refuse to unlock it. Is there anyway i can go over their heads and get control of it? the address is mine, so is the phone number and email. The admin contacts are not.
View 13 Replies View Relatedusing somewhat clever techniques, I've managed to put together a script that will check various rbls, honeypots, and the like, ie: to keep the bad guys out, and the good guys in.
I've managed to put this into play on a per site basis, using simple
PHP Code:
<? require_once("/home/user/httpbl/script.php");?>
so that I don't have to change 500 scripts every time I want to modify it, I just change it once per server. Pretty simple there.
The problem is that I'd like to use this on a more global basis, as in putting it in apache configurations, so I don't have to load it on a per-site basis, and can catch more of what needs to be caught.
I've been a layeredtech customer since early 2005, and until this last insane price-hike fiasco, I've never had a major complaint.
But now it keeps getting worse.
I wound up keeping this particular server around after the price hike (for several reasons, one of which was misinformation from a LT sales person regarding the prepay option) and several days ago received an email stating that my server would have to be moved, and that due to the chassis type of my old server, they could not move my server, I would need to migrate to a new server.
The email was less than forthcoming with details, so I tried to phone the person who sent me the email. The call went straight to his voicemail, where I left a couple messages asking him to return my calls, which he never did.
Finally I called their Sales department to figure out what was going on, and finally spoke with a nice & friendly guy (in a different department), who he stated that he felt like he was in the middle, and he just wanted to help us (the affected customers) out.
Okay, I figure I can handle moving all my custom software to a new server figuring that they would find some comparable piece of hardware to move me to at the same cost.
No.
I was told I would have to pay around 10% more per month for a server with only a slightly faster CPU, only 1GB of ram and only 1 hard-drive (current server has 1.5GB of ram & 2 hard-drives mirrored)
Oh, and I have to have everything moved by the 18th of October.
And I'll have to pay for 2 servers while I move.
Or, I might be able to have the server moved to a different space at Savvis, but that would likely only be a short-term solution, and this situation would come up again.
I find this really appalling--they really must hate their customers who helped them through the early years!

I'm having problem on my server AMD x 2 4200.
When insurance button F5 to refresh the page of my site server climbs the load and lock, when i restart Apache it back to normal.
I just have a website with a dedicated IP address and shared SSL generated in CPanel.
I ask then my host to finish install, which they did.
Now, when I get into the certificated pages (HTTPS), I can see the https:// in the address box of the browser, however the lock sign does not show up.
How can I fix this? I would like to show this lock sign to show the site is secured, since not everybody knows what is a https connection.
I was looking at my qmail queue using qmHandle and noticed that one of the emails sitting in the queue was simply there because of a blatant typo in the email address.
Therefore, I went to the appropriate file in
/var/qmail/queue/mess/*/*
and edited the file to reflect the new email address.
Does this work at all, or should the user resend the email? I naturally don't want to look at email that isn't intended for me (which is why qmHandle is a useful tool -- because only headers are available) nor do I want someone to know that I know their email is sitting in the queue (because they might assume that I *am* reading their email even though I'm not!)
I tried qmHandle -a to no avail; the email address has been edited as per my changes, but the email is still just sitting there.

experience with teamviewer launching its own webserver and preventing apache from starting.
This is a confirmed teamviewer "feature" that launches a web server showing teamviewer advertising.
I do not know too much about iptables in general as I mostly use APF or CSF firewall.
However, I have a virtuozzo vps node that uses iptables by default and it always locks up on a reboot. Even that, it even causes the server to lock up as well, then needing a reboot. What would cause that and how do I remedy this? The node is using Centos 3.6 at this time. Right now, it just pings intermittently.
We have a customer requirement to enable Direct Push email on our Outlook Web Access servers to a number of mobile devices the customer will be supplied from Vodafone - running Windows Mobile 5
Therefore we need to create a public HTTPS address to allow access to the OWA/OMA part.
We do NOT (at this stage) want to allow general access to OWA over HTTPS (we have an eGap solution with RSA for this) so we need to be able to lock down access to the OWA server only to specific devices. One way would be to use Firewall Rules at the Outer DMZ and lock down by the IP ranges of the phone but thats prohibitive to other devices and will fail when the phones change IP (i.e. international roaming)
Therefore Im wondering if we can use self signed SSL certs where there is no trusted CA provider (if there was all browsers would simply be prompted to trust the source and then get access). If we use our own self signed certs and have them installed on the client devices would this work? What would be the downsides (i.e. less cryptogrpahy without the CA part?)
we have a brute force attack:
Code:
188.132.180.106 - - [14/Jul/2014:22:03:37 +0200] "POST /administrator/index.php HTTP/1.0" 303 262 "-" "-"
188.132.180.106 - - [14/Jul/2014:22:03:38 +0200] "GET /administrator/index.php HTTP/1.0" 200 7244 "-" "-"
188.132.180.106 - - [14/Jul/2014:22:03:38 +0200] "GET /administrator/index.php HTTP/1.0" 200 7117 "-" "-"

[code]....
And so on, but the Fail2Ban doesn't lock this ip address, why? And how can we manually lock about the webinterface this ip?
I'm wondering if someone can recommend a host to me. I know that researching a host before I go with it is important, this is part of my research.
I would like to make a site with ASP.NET 2.0 and a database (MS SQL preferred).
I'm just starting, so I don't have any traffic, but I don't want to rule out the possibility in the future.
I'd like a host that has no lock-in (Does not own my domain name, lets me backup and download my own database files) to a host that scales (allows me to upgrade plans easily, or purchase add-on space and bandwidth), although both are useful, I really don't want to be locked-in.
The site is not for profit (personal) and budget is a concern.
Right now Lunarpages Windows plan is looking good, it does give me a ‘free domain’, but specifies that they do not own it. Does anyone know how easy it is to transfer a free domain from lunarpages to godaddy or another registry? Has anyone had experience with this host for asp.net?
I'm also interested in finding a unbiased, legitimate host searching site that allows me to search hosts by features, with no affiliate links to the hosts reviewed, that do not sell hosting, etc.
if i can lock a file from being downloaded or viewed in ftp editor even if i give some one ftp access?
View 3 Replies View Relatedevery 4 or 5 days the lock table permission keeps getting revoked, does anyone have anything that can point me in the general direction of what would cause this? The only thing i can think of is a cpanel layer 2 update has occured a few times during hte periods where the permission is revoked
unfortunately whenever it happens it results in my SQL backup script failing
It's a VPS host running CentOS btw.
How do I lock down my Windows 2003 server so NO ONE can terminal service in UNLESS they are connected through the PRIVATE network? The server is hosted with Softlayer which allows a private network.
Basically, I want to connect to the SL private network and then terminal service in to get in.
When I connect to the private network, my primary IP/network is STILL my ISP's network. If I goto ipchicken.com, I see my ISP's ip.
However, if I do an ipconfig listing, I see the SL private network ip listed as well (it's just not primary). Hopefully, that won't restrict me from terminal servcing in when I lock down the server.
Has any one been with jaguarpc for VPS?
I have and I found them to be slow and unreliable.
My VPS is down, and I thought it maybe a planned downtime, but I can't even reach jaguarpc.com.
I am receiving timeout errors, anyone else having problems?
My JaguarPC VPS keeps killing the services everynight, and the techs reply saying it won't happen again, but it does.
View 14 Replies View Relatedjust changed to JaguarPC's VPS for less than 3 days. Till now, bad experiences.
Firstly, the VPS was activated after more than 24 hours, too far away from their stated "in a few minutes".
Secondly, Server has been down for nearly three times during the last 24 hours. At least, I got three times today, when all my IPs were not pingable. Responses from JaguarPC was either they were rebooting the server, or that server was offline and they were contacting their datacenter.
Thirdly, just after I've uploaded all of my websites and repointed the domains, I realized that named was not working. I tried several methods and failed. So I turned to their support. When I think the problem should be fixed, I got the reply from the support, stating the server was offline, they've contacted the data center. Further more, they asked ME to contact them once I find the server is back online, so that they could go on with my named server problem.
So, my sites are still down. They are not big sites though. I'm now thinking hardly, if I made a mistake when I decided to change to JaguarPC.
Anyway, their 24/7 support responsed really fast...
One of two VPS at jaguarpc.com is down. I can not reach support or main jag site either.
Anyone with same results? What is happening!
I'm trying to find a VPS Hosting service [url], and wonder if JaguarPC is reliable.
If not, which other services do you recommend me?
I have a server running cPanel.
At the moment, I am been hosted on an unmanaged server (dedicated).
My server provider is offering $25/hour for managed support.
My Kernal and Centos have not been updated for a while and I am looking to upgrade both of them. I am wondering how long would these 2 jobs normally take?
Jaguar PC seems to have some aggressive pricing. Can anyone speak to their level of support once you are a customer?

i joined jaguarpc a week ago with the intention of setting up a java based mud server on the system. after the vps was set up, i sent a ticket in requesting help on installing gcc, yum and java. when java 1.4.2 was installed, i requested a newer version be installed, in which case they informed me it would cost $70.00/hr to perform. i had linked the installation page for the program i was installing that stressed the need for the most up to date java jdk, of which 1.4.2 is not.
i then decided to attempt the install myself. however, there were numerous errors involved, to which support attributed to corruption of the data files. the solution? reinstallation of the os. the cost of this procedure is $15.00. i sent a response to this, making sure that the reinstallation was really necessary to make the latest sun java jdk work. the tech confirmed that it was needed to get rid of the corrupted libraries.
I paid the $15.00 for the os reinstall, and had the tech install gcc, yum and the newest sun java jdk. however, when i attempted to check the version, a memory error occurred. after trying to set the xms and xmx settings to no avail, i sent a ticket to support asking for the issue to be looked into.
support responded with this:
Java requires a lot of resources to initialize which a VPS can't provide and that is why it is failing to initialize. If you really need Java you should go for Dedicated sever.
when i replied asking why this was not revealed 10 tickets ago, the support responded with:
We are sorry for that. In fact Java is quite resource intensive and can't run correctly in VPS environment. Even if you add more RAM it will work for sometime but again afte some time starts failing. So it is recommended that you do not use Java on VPS and go for Dedicated server.
thank you for apprising me of this after i pay to get the os reinstalled. nearly all of my tickets concerned java, and i stated that it was needed by the program i wished to run. at no point before this was it mentioned that the latest version of java would not be capable of being run on the vps.
overall, i am disappointed with this company, and plan to cancel my account.
