View 14 RepliesI'm doing some research on the ages of owners of companies in the current hosting industry. It seems like there's increasing numbers of minors starting up hosting businesses every month. I've compiled a short list of providers that have been mentioned on WHT to be run by minors. I want to see what's the general perception of minors running hosting businesses on WHT.
Can any customers of these companies comment on their experience with their provider?
Crissic Solutions, LLC
VectorLevel LLC
PC Core Hosting
Addictive Hosting
Also, how are they getting LLCs registered? Isn't that illegal?
I recently moved a client of mine to a dedicated server with a hosting company called the NYNOC. After losing a few weeks of data for my client in the incedent described below, I am wondering if what happened was industry standard, or this was a case of choosing the wrong hosting company.
After signing up and paying the initial hosting charge, I received two notices - one on 18 july, and the second on 26th july - for a bill that was due 25th july.
On 2nd august I get a complaint from my client saying the website is down. I figured the hosting company had cut me off for a late bill. Fine, I figure i go and pay the bill and the reconnection charge and they put me back on.
After waiting 8 hours to get a support person (they dont have 24 hours customer service), I was told that I no longer had a account with them! No client log in. No server. Nothing. The disk was wiped clean and the server was sold to another customer. Without any warning that this would happen.
So my client lost a few weeks of customer data and I lost my credibility.
I was just wondering if this is standard practice in the dedicated hosting industry, or these guys are just bad news.
One more thing. When you talk to these people (they have only one customer support person) its almost as if they really really dislike their customers. As in, they talk down to you even as they exhibit complete disregard for your interests. This I know is not an industry standard. I have several accounts at Hurricane Electric, and they are tops. Unfortunately they do not offer well priced dedicated hosting.
I think I will try Interserver next. I spoke with one of the support guys on AOL late at night, and they seem good, and more importantly, are able to have a pleasant conversation with their customers.
I am just wondering if the Global financial crisis has any negative impacts on hosting providers and IT sector? Do the crisis consequences lead to hosting sales decrease? How does the World hosting industry experience financial crisis? How can hosting business owners comment the current situation in the World?
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently i took a windows dedicated server. I am facing some strange problem that i never heard before. My site is : somex.com developed in ASP. I am hosting it in my dedicated server. When i am checking through copyscape.com i found some strange url somey.com has the interface same as my site.. & all of my content is displaying these.
Looking like an exact clone. If i update a content page in my site .. it is getting updated directly there also.. I am really surprised & confused with this. All did he changed in the site is " he is using his own adsense publisher ID "...
All of those site urls are looking like this : [url]
Check these uncanny symobals in url = ?l=
Previously my hosting provider used to block this domain... Now i took a dedicated server with plesk. I got the IP address of that site but i don't know how to block it using plesk or remote desktop ..Just give me an idea if you can.. i will try to resolve the issue.
While iam doing research on this topic i got this url :[url]
It seems the same issue but i do not have .htaccess fine in my ftp.. i never used it.
Does anyone have experience with the cheap $1 web hosts?
I don't mind paying for hosting, but I only need one script installed on a server that runs a cron file once per day and I don't want to pay $5 to $10 for that.
My question is basically this: is my credit card safe with these $1 web hosts? Can they be trusted to keep my identity safe?
i have seen many posts here regarding godshost.com hosting company, as i have noticed that the owner of that company is hosting 80% of the identity theft networks for illegal credit cards trading.. i have reported this issue to admin@godshost.com and support@godshost.com / abuse@godshost.com a weeks ago without receving 1 reply from them about it,
all of the ircds server that keeping the illegal network up is from godshost.com 86.106.137.* - 89.40.71.*, Even this company used to supply alot of other illegal networks of ircds as i believe the reason behinde that is to force the network owners to pay more or even the double of the server cost so this how it make more profit!
i'v sent to sharktech.net - rackvibe.com / an emails since a week about an illegal hosting on thier ircd services, but can i know why the identity theft irc servers is still running?
i have sent to both abuse emails to:
abuse@rackvibe.com
abuse@sharktech.net,
from a differnt email addresses with a hope to see a responce, but they never did.
i wounder how the both companies feel when people credit cards and thier bank accounts are being sold and traded under thier service.

Why do most VPS servers have CentOS as the default/most common OS for linux?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am writing an article about managed colocation (what it is, what are the benefits, how is it different from other hosting options, etc.).
What are some common questions you get from your customers regarding your managed colocation or managed services?
Do they see the value right away? Why are the hesitant? Is it clear to them which aspect of their server is under the control of the hosting company and which is still their responsibility?
I want to have a static server for my website which runs on the same machine as the dynamic server. I have read on the internet that port 8080 is a good alternative port to use.
Is common enough that it will work in all cases like port 80? And that it won't be blocked by firewalls and so on since it's not a service port (port < 1024).
Is it common for 10-15$+/month to provide only 1 database?

I want to use something like PHPBB forums and using one MySQL user and database. Just wondering, what are common user permissions I should set for the user? I want to try to minimize any permissions that can cause big risk to the server security.
Here is a full list of permissions I can grant to the user (via Webmin):
-Select table data
-Insert table data
-Update table data
-Delete table data
-Create tables
-Drop tables
-Grant privileges
-Reference operations
-Manage indexes
-Alter tables
-Create temp tables
-Lock tables
This is part 1 of a personal tragic-comic narrative starring myself, a simple, unassuming end-user of value-based web hosting services, and the supreme villain of this pathetic tale, the Iago to my Othello, would be a verminous, sub-human parasite collective disguised as a professional web-hosting company in the vicinity of Columbus, Ohio.
Speaking of Shakespeare, it seems to this humble WHT supplicant that the comedy of errors authored by the entities in question, a craven crew of possum-bellied, pigeon-brained menagerie of cubicle-dwelling subhuman troglodytes masquerading as ethical business-persons and capable hosting providers, is so egregious that if a scale of measurement is ever devised for web-hosting incompetence, it should be named after this company, in recognition of their utter incompetence and arbitrary imbecilic buffoonery disguised as reasonable technical support and customer service.
Apparently this company thinks it's more important to use their scale-encrusted rat-tails to cover up their own mistakes instead of giving reasonable responses to customer questions regarding apparent server issues.
Which brings me to my initial question:
MySQL's docs say that Error Code 28 results from lack of disk space or write permissions.
What are the common causes of this? Who has the power to control it from happening, the web host or the end user?( in this arrangement, the host is running an overloaded server and controls all of the configurations and aspects of the server while the user is using secure software with moderate usage of bandwidth and database queries).
I have additional questions in regards to a more general issue regarding failure to write/open to directories as well, but I'll wait for some responses first.
Excellent forum, by the way.
I use Basic Auth to limit access to a web site. This seems to work ok. I noticed though in the logs that the logged in user is not logged:
80.....188 - - [16/Jul/2013:09:56:29 +0200] "GET ..." 200 1844 "...." " ...
I would expect the second - to be replaced by the logged in user. The doc says, the user is logged if the document is protected. I do protect the whole directory using directory match. Without log in I fail to retrieve the document in question.
Why can't we have Unlimited data on dedicated servers? People say data costs alot of money so dedicated server providers cannot offer unlimited monthly data, but why don't hosting companies lay their own underground/underwater cables coz then they cud charge what they want? Or talk to the current cable owners and see if they can get unlimited data deals.
When u think about it, when u get satellite tv, they don't say u can only watch 100 hours of tv per month, coz u can watch as much tv as u want, yet the satellite still uses data, so y is this not the same for dedi providers?
I have a project (using multiple servers) that has generated 3TB of data (compressed), with another .5TB or so each month, and the hard drives on my servers are very close to capacity.
The data doesn't need to be accessible online, so I'm trying to find a low cost way to deal with this data. Keeping the data on dedicated server(s) raises the monthly cost every few months, which isn't good. Transferring that much data to my location via the Internet is costly and inconvenient.
I'm thinking the best option would be to find a host that can ship hard drives to me, after I copy data over. Does anyone know if that is something that hosting companies are willing to do?
who use the service dedicated servers in redrocksdatacenter? I was searching to find, but the reviews did not find.
View 4 Replies View Relatedto ask about this offer (millenniumdata dot com/BUSINESS/Business-Default.asp?include=Business-Dedicated-Servers.asp) I found. They have live chat support so i talked with someone and what he did say me is: servers come with Fedora and whole LAMP environment installed, you can SSH to the server, and install VNC, you have full ADMIN rights to install anything you wish, servers are not managed (he said that they are Managed in the sense that they are monitoring PING POWER and PIPE), they can Re-image to default for free, no setup fee, month to month payment.
I didn't use any dedicated server, I only used shared hosting. What I planed is to move my OpenX (former names OpenAds and phpAdsNew) installation to this server for now to see who is that working. I think that server is capable to run it, since it is currently run on shared hosting.
have set up a server at burst.net.But burst.net said they will not transfer my data from Dreamhost.com to my new server.I think it's a bad idea to download all my data from dreamhost to my computer and then upload them to the new server. So,is there any easier way to transfer the data from Dreamhost.com to my new server at burst.net?
It seems dreamhost has no SSH and cPanel, but my server has both of them.I heard that I can use the get/mget command to do that,
I have 100+ sites on this hard drive, and one site in particular that meant the world to me.
My host sent the drive to Gillware first, but they failed saying that the file system was so severely damaged that they could not recover anything.
Then shortly after, my host sent it to DriveSavers, a very well-known company, but they also FAILED.
I'm extremely depressed because of this. Please don't post if you're going to say "make sure you do backups next time" because I've heard it 504329504395 times now, and while I do realize my mistake, saying that does NOT help me.
I am willing to spend ALOT to get my sites back. I still have hope. Are there any other companies out there BETTER than DriveSavers? Assuming that you'd still have hope even after two companies failed, where you would you go or what would you do?
