How To Transfer Data From Shared Host To Dedicated Server(burst.net)
Jun 29, 2008
have set up a server at burst.net.But burst.net said they will not transfer my data from Dreamhost.com to my new server.I think it's a bad idea to download all my data from dreamhost to my computer and then upload them to the new server. So,is there any easier way to transfer the data from Dreamhost.com to my new server at burst.net?
It seems dreamhost has no SSH and cPanel, but my server has both of them.I heard that I can use the get/mget command to do that,
choosing an appropriate webhost solution. I'll be launching a site that will initially serve around 3000-4000 pageviews per day (say 2000-2500 uniques per day) but will go well over 10-15K eventually. Pretty small based on that metric. With just PHP (no dynamic content), my shared host has handled that fairly well for an existing site.
However, this site will need to track search queries...so, each page will do a simple MySQL lookup and either upgrade a count or do a small insert. Again, very simple stuff but not sure how this affect performance and CPU load. Still, I know my provider has pretty low thresholds on max db concurrent connections and they've loaded my server with lots of other sites recently. I'd rather not take a chance after launching.
Based on that simple operation, would you recommend moving to a managed VPS or possibly a semi-dedicated server? The traffic still sounds low but I'm just not sure of the mysql effect
If VPS, it seems like 512M memory should be the minimum for this setup or could I get away with something smaller, like 384M/256M?
I've read good things about MediaLayer's "application hosting" but it still sounds just like shared hosting.
How can I find the data transfer rate on the server. I have done ifconfig -a , it display the amout of data has been received and transfered. I want to see the live data transfer date. Can I able to check it?
I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 with Plesk 12.0.18 Update #25 with single IP address assigned to the server.
Is it possible to do the following with only 1 IP address:
-Host 4 shared hosting websites on the same IP but also use the same IP address to install and setup a shared SSL Cert. for hostname AND for 1 of 4 hosted websites ...
One of my Cpanel servers is showing heavy data transfer this month. In 6 days, it crossed 600 GB data transfer which is equal to what it did last month. Also, all the websites collectively have only consumed around 60 GB data transfer in 6 days. How do I find out what exactly is causing heavy data transfer?
I changed servers. It's been three days since we swapped DNS, and I have a slew of people that still can't access anything.
The thing is, the old server should have been set up to forward everyone to the new server, and it wasn't initially. This was done by the admin company by changing the "localhost" setting on the old config file for the mysql database to the new server's IP address.
So, I have people, a LOT of people, who have been unable to reach anything for the last three days. Neither old server nor new server. Nothing, zip, nada.
Yesterday, the admin company said that they had found something wrong with port 80, and had changed the settings, and we began to see some traffic, FINALLY. I though maybe we were fixed, but this morning, I still have a crapload of emails from people who can't reach anything.
This was a cPanel to cPanel swap, in the same datacenter, on the same vlan.
We're working on Day 4 here, and everyone seems to be guessing, and In get the sense that if I don't stay proactive, nothing will be resolved.
Thing is, I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous, which is why I pay professional server admins.
how to limit the amount of data transfered for a single client in a share hosting scenario using Windows 2003/2008 and NOT using a off-the-shelf control panel.
Within IIS you can limit the number of connections and throttle the transfer rate, but I don't see how to limit the amount of data transferred.
Are the Control Panels monitoring the log files and totaling the amount of data transferred or is there another way to implement data transfer limits?
When there are problems with the site, people may be sent to our status site. We just did that, with the site hosted on Dreamhost and it barely lasted 5 minutes (hehehe). Is there any viable host/option that could support these circumstances?
Near-zero users a day but may suddenly spike to more than 5,000/day?

I have been with Page-Zone for a couple years now. Just the past year I have had little problems with them.
-For instance once I was trying to update my website and their server went down. I thought it was something on my end so I started trouble shooting it for an hour and then it came back up.
-Another time the users on my website were without e-mail for a week, because they changed IP address.
-And finally the e-mail accounts couldn't receive any e-mails from Comcast, MSN, or Hotmail accounts. So I ended up setting up a Google Aps account for us to use for e-mail.
Granted they are very cheap but I have been having many problems with little support. Also today I just noticed that in the whois it lists Network Solutions as the technical contact. Are these things that I should be looking for a new host for?
