How do you get like for example ROOT of cPanel in a VPS? How would you be able to use it besides like giving permission to use WHM and stuff on accounts. As doesn't remote reboot and such have to happen on the whole server?

Is there a way in shell, to find out information on the CPU(s) in the server?
I'm using Centos, on a cPanel server. However, I'm looking for more info than what WHM's "Server Information" provides.
Trying to find out what generation Xeon is in the server, so I can read about it's specs.

I understand that servers can do automatic backups of information, yet I also see forum modifications that enable simple ways of doing a backup. Are there different types of backups? Why is it necessary to manually backup a forum database when its done automatically by the server? In terms of assuring the data, what is required and whats a typical procedure, what does it entail, is it manual and if so usually how often, or is it usually automatic?

I was checking my server information today on WHM panel and this is what I saw:
Processor #1 Vendor: GenuineIntel
Processor #1 Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz
Processor #1 speed: 1596.000 MHz
Processor #1 cache size: 4096 KB
Processor #2 Vendor: GenuineIntel
Processor #2 Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz
Processor #2 speed: 2660.000 MHz
Processor #2 cache size: 4096 KB
Why is the Processor #1 speed labeled as 1.6 ghz? Processor #2 speed never goes down no matter how high the load is. Could it be the reason that my server can't handle 4 websites with a cumulative total of 20k unique hits per day?

We are planning for a clustering archirecture for our mail servers,The basic idea is put all of mailservers behind a load balancer which will monitor and distribute the n/w load as server load and forward the requests accordingly can u suggest any good hardware loadbalancer which could give us 'server load balancing' as well as n/w load balacing.
I would also like to know if it is a good idea to go for a software load balancer(like linux heartbeat) or to h/w load balancer.

I just want an expert opinion if what I am doing should be considered to be secure (or if there is a more secure way to do what I am doing). I made our hotel's online reservation system and it stores the guests' credit card information.
The card is encrypted using AES (MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_128) and the key that is used to encrypt/decrypt must be entered from the client side in order to log in. It is not stored on the server. So that my employees do not have to enter it every time they want to log in, it is stored in a cookie on their computer or entered manually if the cookie is deleted. When logged in, I have the key stored in a _SESSION variable in a subdirectory of that account's home directory and have the following attributes (for example):
Quote:
-rw------- 1 nobody nobody 0 Jul 9 16:48 sess_c1744d96fe87def6814db2c5936e1b1d
Does this seem like a secure enough way to store/encrypt/decrypt credit card data?

I am trying to get a hold of the abuse department of Layered Technologies. They host a splog which is continually ripping my content - takes the content down after a complaint - just to publish it again after a few hours.
I only have sales@layeredtech.com - and even so they promise to forward the request - the latest rip is from yesterday evening and still on the other site.
I really like to have this resolved.

I work for Microsoft. Used to be a regular participant on Web Hosting Talk a few years ago (then moved over to Europe at that time). I've been doing some work recently that has led me back to the community here to ask for some input on where administrators of Windows-based hosting services go to find technical information.
How often might you use the following two Web sites?
1) [Hosting Solutions on TechNet]
2) [Windows Hosting Discussions]
I've just re-registered a new account so I have to do the five post thing before I can insert links, otherwise I'd to a direct link to the two above. If you're not familar with them, just do a Web search for those phrases and the sites will be at the top of the list.
Are there other Web sites that you use regularly for technical information on operating Windows hosting services? Or do you mostly just enter a phrase in Google and temporarily use the Web site/s that come up in the search results?

I recently migrated a load of domains from a pleks 8.? install to a plesk 12 one. As part of the migration a new reseller was created but all the resellers domains got "lost". They were all there and working but not appearing in the interface.
I did some googleing and fixed this problem and can now see all the domains and when I look at the reseller plesk tells me it has 0 own customers, 0 own plans and 0 own subscriptions. However, if I look at the resources tab it tells me that 7 domains out of unlimited are being used.I just wondered where plesk get's that info from and if it is safe to delete that reseller without risking the domains getting deleted too.

I have recently setup PPA and already use WHMCS.I can provision accounts without any issues, however i need to be able to send a good looking welcome letter like the regular plesk panel integration. As i don't know which server the account is provisioned to, i can't really send any IP informations to the customer.
Should the welcome e-mail be sent from PPA..Also, i noticed that FTP username and password does not follow the WHMCS login.username is like sub2_ 87 or similar with a password i don't know.Last, the configuration options was not created as the documentation states. Is there an easy way to add them?

I run a the polyglot website [URL] .... and my question is about "how to serve a page in the language preferred by the user, if available?"
At the moment I use Multiviews to add a language code to the requested URL according to the AcceptLanguage header (e.g. if "tr", serve index.html.tr instead of index.html), but this information doesn't always match user wish and I was told that serving different filenames for the same requested URI can prevent proper pages indexing by search engines.
So, I will now store web pages in each language in a specific directory, e.g. subdirectories en, it ru, tr, etc. For instance /tr/index.html will be in Turkish.
On every page, user can change language clicking on a link showing e.g. "uk" for Ukrainian. Now I want that once they do that all pages requested by the same client be served in the same language, unless/until user click on another language link.
I know that I could set a cookie or use HTTP-REFERER for that, but possibly the browser can be set to refuse cookies or not sent the Referer HTTP header.
So my question is : knowing that when a user click on a language link we serve a page in the corresponding directory, how could I reuse that information for next request of the same client (same IP address), including it in a RewriteCond directive so that I can serve requested page in the same language directory, if it exists.
I wish to avoid server side scripting (at present the website is 100% static).
