View 11 RepliesAnyone can share their experience? I am interested in RELIABLE email only for personal use (I will probably order Windows hosting package but I will not be using it much). My domain is registered with Godaddy and will stay there.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhich one is better in shared hosting between godaddy and 1&1?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have had problems with all three hosting providers and the support and such seems good at first. However as time goes you will see more problems and they will be slower and slower to respond to your questions.
I have now found better ways of hosting and learned more, It's also saving me a bunch of money.
I have already bought my package with godaddy, so I want to get started as quickly as possible. As I go to enter my blogs URL at godaddy so I can create it, it keeps telling my the selected domain is invalid?
I am entering it in the correct place under 'Domain not registered here'. I think it would have something to do with my settings at 1and1 but I am lost
Basically I registered the domain www.technetnews.com with 1and1 and want to use it to host my blog with godaddy
Ok, I'm a few lost about which dedicated server to choose.
First, I need 2 dedicated servers. These servers are only to download static content.
Downloadable files are small (50-400k).
I'll use lightweight server.
If there are too many user, I'll buy another server.
I search for excellent uptime, US server and fast download server.
I've visited some popular web hosting but if you know better, lets me know
1and1
Price (Root Server): $99
CPU: Single Core AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
HD: 2 x 160 GB
Bandwidth: 2,000 GB
Bandwidth Cap: 100 Mbps
GoDaddy
Price: $68
CPU: Celeron 2.0GHz
RAM: 1GB
HD: 1 x 120GB
Bandwidth: 500GB
Bandwidth Cap: 10-20 Mbps
Also, the price between 1and1 and GoDaddy is $31 but 1and1 give more on cpu, hd, bandwidth(4x), connection...
One of my question is 1and1 offers a average price for dedicated server or GoDaddy spends a part of money with Amanda, Candice and Danica?
Do you have some suggestion for dedicated server or web hosting?
attending to clients and their email inbox limits is occuring more frequently
i'd prefer to minimize this chore, especially now i have some clients using IMAP it means the server fills up rapidly.
google apps -just for handling email- seems attractive (6GB free) compared to increasing the monthly fee for extra server space which seems to be kind of expensive at my webhost.
i would actually prefer to keep using the Webmail interfaces offered on the servers but i dont think my clients will change their bad habits of filling up their inbox, and lets not forget the increasing levels of SPAM.
what are other people doing with email?
are many people outsourcing it to google?
i'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions.
I am looking for a host for my emails, i have about 25 and another 15 forwarders and was wandering if anyone can tell me how is the google email hosting service, i am referring to the free service. Were any emails lost? Does the service decides on it's what is spam and waht is not or can i configurate that? Is the lack of customer service noticable?
View 14 Replies View RelatedA client has told me that his brother wants to put the company email on a remote server through Google. Currently the email goes via the hosting company.
He has asked me to send his brother the username and password for "updating domain information" so he can demonstrate what he is suggesting.
I am not really sure what he wants (as I always set up email via the hosting company and am not familiar with any other way): domain details or hosting company details with the email passwords etc? If the latter, I am not too happy about giving him access to all the website files that I am responsible for.
Does anyone know what he is talking about?
I have a question regarding Google Apps when it comes to my email login. (Have searched extensively on Google App's support, but to no avail)
I have created the email address kim @ kimstewart.ca through Google Apps and have set my MX records through HostGator. Propagation looks to now be complete and my emails are sending and I am able to receive. However, when I access my emails through the Google Apps dashboard, it takes me to this rather long and convoluted URL:
[url]
I was hoping to just be able to log into www.gmail.com and enter my email/password to be able to login. It this not possible? Or do I need to do some more tinkering from Google Apps in order to make this work? (I also have an iGoogle account I would like transfered over to my Google Apps email.)
Not sure if it's the best forum to ask this, but it's related to hosting.
I have a Windows hosting for our business and send a newsletter twice a week to almost 10,000 subscribers through the hosting mail server.
I'd like to move to google apps so we can use the gmail interface. The problem is that I see Google apps has some limitations for sending mails (500 per user per day if I understood right, no matter if it's free or premier account).
Does anyone send a newsletter through Google apps? What can I do?
I would like some help on setting up google apps emails on a PLESK hosting on 1and1.com.
Here is my MX server setup, and doesn't seem too work. I set it up before but i didn't save it and now I forgot how to do it again.
where the error is?
This is very perplexing, a few days ago our WHMCS stopped sending email to our google apps account. I soon found out that the server WHMCS is hosted on, that Cpanel is catching all email.
However, we have the DNS set @ everydns.com including a SPF+MX records which worked before on our DirectAdmin server; Our email use to go fine to google apps however it seems like Cpanel is somehow acting as the MX server?
The following setup has been working fine for several months, I came to check the site today and I'm unable to connect. Email and site are split (email is with googlemail).
@NS ns1.domainregistrar.com
@NS ns2.domainregistrar.com

I can send and receive, but no emails arrive, probably because the registrar has a resolve issue?
Site is also down.
With a competitive price, comparable to Google Apps Pro Edition.
In my opinion is a very good product, http://tinyurl.com/68d9h5
that unfortunately I can't resell yet
I still think that Scalix and Zimbra provide a better -final user- experience that Open-Xchange but in business, speed is a must, and having a product before a competition is a competitive edge. You can't keep waiting a company forever.
BTW, Just wanted to take advantage to comment how poor and oldie look the webmail interfaces, we hosting providers provide to our users. With the exception of Windows Email systems and Roundcube, most control panels come with Squirrelmail and Horde, look old. They are good and stable but they are and look good.
Some days ago, I got a new customer and after I gave him the login info for their Cpanel 11 account and webmail, he told me:
"..I don't like the webmail.. I use Yahoo email all the time, and it is easy to use. Squirrel looks simple, but it is "ugly"..."
I must admit, that I felt embarrased.
What did I finally do with him? Configured Google Apps for free for him. Now he is happy. But I am thinking is that if I start to find more customers like this, my business will end up in charging for configuring "nice webmails..."
One of my hosted domains have an email problem, every email account that is hosted on that site, is able to send and recieve email, but when sending to gmail or hotmail, it is delivered as SPAM.
Someone told me it is because this domain doesnt have a MX record at the DNS zone..
What is the sintax for the MX record ? I have enterd A(ddress) and CNAME records, but never MX records.. can anyone tell me how to do it so I can send mail in the way it should be.
I want to use Gmail to host my email. I have already confirmed my domain and now I can successfully send emails via my domain.
However in order to receive emails I need to add/update the MX records on my server. I did that (I think) but now, 24h later, the records don't seem to be updated yet.
For instance intodns.com still shows that there is only one MX record: [URL] ....
This is my setup where you can clearly see the MX records required by Google:
I changed the TTL to some minutes but still the changes don't seem to be propagated.
The screenshots are taken from "Website & Domains" -> my domain -> DNS - that should be the right thing to change, correct?
I hope some of you are using Google Apps and can help me to find an answer to the following question:
I own two different and independent domain names (e.g. domain1.com and domain2.com).
I'd like to use the Google Apps (Standard, free edition) with them to create two different and totally independent mailboxes (e.g. abc@domain1.com and xyz@domain2.com).
But how many Google accounts I need to do this? Can I manage two (or more) independent and fully functional domains using one Google account?
P.S.
Help section contains descriptions of aliases for multiple domains, which are just pointers or shortcuts, but not a fully functional mailboxes, so this solution isn't something I'm looking for.
I want to buy vps server from 1and1.com but I am from Turkey. 1an1 said me " The dedicated server packages are only available for US and Canada only ". For this reason I cant buy VPS server from 1and1. is there anybody sell vps and dedicated from 1and1? or does anybody help me for buying vps or dedicated server. I can pay broker price.
I want to use 1and1 because when I send email on 1and1 based server, all mail to inbox. I am building Email hosting company in TURKEY. If you know other hosting company as 1and1. all email going to go inbox. I may work with him.
There is probably a simple explanation for this, but in our Google Analytics stats one of the most popular pages is
/?wcw=google
Can anyone explain exactly what this is?
What do you guys think about this company?
Is it good as SoftlayerThePlanet is?
Would you recommend them?
Yes? why?
No? why?
looking for an ip from 1and1.com - i will look if the webhosting server are the same like in germany. if not may its interested to get backlinks from an unbranded ip outsite germany.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, my current hosting at streamline.net is expiring in a couple of months and I don't want to stay with them for a minute longer.
I have about 5 domains that I require hosting for, and another few which will be aliases to these domains.
I had a look at fasthosts.co.uk and would need a separate hosting package for each domain.
I then looked at 1and1's virtual private servers. These hopefully fit the bill as it is quite cheap at £15/pm.
http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/VpsRoot
I was wondering if this fits my needs. Would I be able to host several websites here? Or just one domain?
Also, they say that I have root access, will I be able to do just about anything on there then? E.g. install imagemagick, edit php.ini, enable wildcard DNS and use mod_rewrite for subdomains... etc.
Given that I have root access to the VPS, how can it be that they say the max number of email accounts is 150, what else is restricted?
I'm a bit confused as to what sort of abilities a VPS will give me. 1and1's site doesn't explain what I could use it for as well as I would like.
Is it any good? Any reviews?
Anyone used it since they started?
i recently saw an ad for 1 and 1 in pc magazine and was wondering if anyone has tried out their services. it looks pretty legit and extremely cheap pricing. i might look into going to them for my future domain purchases. from my experience the cheaper the fees the cheaper the service.
View 2 Replies View Related1and1 has always getting a lot of fudge here on WHT and a lot of times they deserve it. In the past their support has totally sucked. However, I have noticed lately that their support is actually improving A LOT!! I've been getting responses within a few hours and that is really good considering it would take days before. Also, in the past their responses were just generic and non-helpful but lately they have actually provided personal help and attention and fixed all the issues I've had. I know this should be expected from a registrar/webhost but I have to say I'm quite impressed. They are after all a really budget company.
Btw, I use them for all my domain registrations and also have a small hosting package with them for my static small sites. I'm not brave enough to put my more busy sites there yet.
Does anyone have VPS from 1 & 1 ? How do you like their server/service ? Their price is quite cheap...
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is the problem I'm facing:
I have a domain registered with 1and1.com (klenwell.com). I have a VPS running Linux with a different host. I have configured bind to run as my nameserver for the domains ns1.klenwell.com and ns2.klenwell.com. (I have run dig to verify the bind is configured properly.)
The problem: when I try to change the primary and secondary name servers for klenwell.com at 1and1.com using the form provided by the 1and1 control panel, I get the following error message:
The name server is not sufficient or hasn't been approved.Subdomains of the original domainname as name servers for the original domainname need a fixed IP! Please refer to the FAQ (keyword: Glue domain)!
So I enter the IP address and I get the following error message:
The name server is not sufficient or hasn't been approved.
So I called 1and1.com support hoping they could fix this. But it appeared that the young woman who took my call was unable to comprehend the problem (she kept referring to Plesk -- which had nothing to do with the issue here).
I was prepared for this and hoping to get passed up to someone who knew what she was doing. But before that could happen, after going around in circles with Level 1 support for about 10 minutes, I mysteriously got disconnected! (I guess I had used up my time quota.)
Am I SOL here? It seems like a chicken-and-egg problem. I can't change the DNS settings until 1and1 is able verify that my nameserver domains are valid. But they won't be valid until 1and1 changes them. And 1and1 support seems totally incapable of providing any help.
I know I could use a free third-party service, but I wanted to have some practice running my own nameserver. Also I want to be able to add subdomains myself. (Right now, I have to manually add them through 1and1.com and am limited to 5.)
Any help is appreciated. Otherwise, I'll just use this as an opportunity to vent my frustration at 1and1.com's support. <sigh>
I have been with this hosting company for almost five years now and until today the service has been excellent. I am having massive ftp issues. I have 41 different domains that I run for a variety of projects. Needless to say I keep each website in a different folder. I just tried to switch one of my blogs from blogger to wordpress. Blogger won't let me have my domain back and keeps blocking it with a 404 error. But that is a separate issue. I tried using one of my extra domains and pointing it at my new blog folder. But it keeps bouncing back to my root directory. I contacted 1and1 and they reset the server, but now they are blaming me for the issue. I can access the blog through it's subdirectory but I can't post the blog there.
Anyways, I am not ready to move over all of my websites, but I do want to move my blog to a new host. I am mainly hoping that I can escape 1and1 and blogger in one move if I change the host of this one website. It's funny I have been happy for years and recommended them to friends, but now I am very disappointed. Can someone recomend a reliable host? I am looking for one with a cheap lowend package to start off. If I end up staying I will need a lot of bandwidth as I have a podcast that had a lot of traffic. Basically, there are so many companies that I just can't tell which ones are reliable. That's my main concern. Also I use SQL a lot. Thanks!
