Transferring Hosting Plus New Site
May 1, 2009
I have agreed to update website A (with url A) on host A. Both are rubbish.
I would like to build the new site with host B for various reasons (essentially I want / need more than one 50Mb database).
If I build the new site B on host B under a temporary URL, I'll then need to transfer the domain from host A to host B. So my questions are:
How easy is it to transfer url A to host B and to point to site B? What will happen to the approx. 70 email addresses on host A? Will I have to manually recreate them at host B and any emails stored on the server will be lost?

I have read another recently created thread about their woes but this is a separate issue so I figured it deserved a separate thread.
Here is my problem.
I am transferring my site, osrec.com from my old server to
Hostgator.
The old server is quite primitive and I am using this piece of crap:
Matrix Hosting Appliance Control Panel v2.0-33
I have hardly any control or options.
I am using Joomla 1.5....but my concern is that the MYSQL database will not be compatible.
I am also concerned about downtime...What if they transfer and it isn't compatible, am I then stuck with a site that won't function properly. Is there a way of transferring it to another domain hosted with Hostgator first?
Has anyone transferred a Joomla site over to Hostgator? have you any advice?
I know, a lot of questions and not really structured. Fact is, I have never experienced this before and so this is my first time facing it.
I'd contact Hostgator, but....ya know...their technical support is useless.

Currently i want to transfer my site to new server :
1. I go to site cpanel -> backup
click on "Download a home directory Backup " and "Download a MySQL Database Backup"
I download all file and mysql data to local pc first.
2. I go to new server cpanel -> backup
browse the zip file and upload it, for mysql database same, browse zip file and upload it..
Then problem come, after i have done, i go to cpanel->MySQL database, i can found my database is there, but all the mysql user is lost, I try it again and again.. but the result is same.

I'm trying to transfer a site(that I did not create) that is written in PHP4 and uses global variables from MediaTemple as we have been having extremely slow performance over the last 6 months. The site is database drive and uses an SSL certificate with PayQuake to handle membership.
We tried MediaLayer but had too many problems. Then I placed a copy of my own test site on Site5 and it all worked great. So, we created a new account and are trying to move the code over there.
Basically, I have functions (accordion menus) and a search function (the form isn't passing the field to the action URL) that are not working. Site5 isn't being very helpful. I'm getting extremely frustrated.
And yes, I know I should get rid of the globals but it's a complicated site and we want to get it moved before we start messing with the code.
Is there a webhosting company out there that is helpful in getting these kinds of weird issues straightened out? Or do I just need to slog through? I'm a programmer (ASP, .NET, Java, PHP) but my weakness is in configuration of servers - the whole hardware/network side of things so I'm not great with the intricacies of web server hosting.

I have a question about SSL certs.
How do you transfer an SSL cert that you have on your current hosting plan to new servers hosting plan?
This is on Plesk and on a VPS and I have root access on both servers and both are Plesk if this even makes a difference.

What is the best way to transfer the cost of webhosting to a client?
What I'm trying to establish is for instance, if you design a website and offer to set-up the hosting for them for say, an inital 2-year period, how do you go about getting them to pay for the hosting after the 2 years has expired? The same obviously applies to a domain right?

I just want to provide what it takes to change hosting company or moving from one to another.
Here is 10 steps how you can do it.
Please correct me if I forgot something or I am totally wrong (wing-wong)
1.Identify a web hosting company that provides the features and services most suitable for you.
2.Order an appropriate hosting package from the supplier.
3.Use the Control Panel facilities to manage your email boxes and such like.
4.Begin the transfer of your domain or change the domain records and change email settings if required (your new web hosting supplier
should provide guidance and support to make this as simple as possible).
5.Copy all your files from your previous web hosting service.
6.Upload the files to your new hosted web space.
7.Transfer any databases required for your website.
8.Check that all files have been copied and uploaded successfully.
9.Test functionality and content related to any databases.
10.If you have not done so already, cancel your previous hosting service.
By the way I think that the most biggest problem is to know how to get moving from one to another hosting that’s why people always thinks that
they will stick to one hosting company and forget all major problems with that company (downtimes, long servers maintenance and etc.)…
I am trying to analyze cPanel, DirectAdmin and Plesk and will provide all (as much as I can) information regarding how to transfer your website.

Anyway I think it would be great idea to have all information together collected.

I'm trying to find at least three web hosting companies to choose from to host a Joomla websites on a shared server. Would consider dedicated if the deal was right. I have a friend of mine who wants to create a church website, and is looking for the best deal. I use Netfirms which I have never had an issue with, but I didn't want to be bias, and would like give him other options to choose from.
Is there a good WebHosting Review site, I could check out, or maybe someone could recommend their top three. I reading threw the forums here and I noticed there are not that many complaints with Hostgator. Again, I just want to see if there was anything out there better.

As somebody who has bought the 'Build Your Own ASP.NET 2.0 Web Site Using C# & VB' by CRISTIAN DARIE and ZAK RUVALCABA, I wonder what Hosting deals are considered the best and most user friendly (robust and support).
By this I mean, the most competitive for users like me who are just learning the technology and maybe want to set up some basic book examples online using SQL 2005.

I have looked far and wide for a hosting company that supports ASP.NET as well has SQL server (and that allows remote connections via MS Enterprise Man). I have used Godaddy for years, but trying to access a SQL or MySQL db for development is complicated and pathetic. I have looked at many new Hosting CO's, including m6,1and1,ixwebhosting,************,hostmonster,bluehost, and others mentioned here; but All I can find is dozens of reviews, mostly bad and very few good, on about ANY company that I google for except the ($20+) monthly ones. I have found a site called reliablesite.net, that interests me. (I am non profit org paying out of my pocket). I have seen good reviews but a couple that are very 'bad' for me, such as no sites hosted on this provider, no phone number or where the company is at. Any insights on the provider. I am needing an ASP.NET / SQL provider (low volume traffic). (I found a reliable ? discountasp.net but there price w/SQL is too high..) , so am looking at reliablesite.net. Just tired of looking at dozens of bad reviews on about any site I google for...

I'm after some hosting for some adult content (nothing too bad!) as my current host won't allow it (no big loss, they're atrocious anyway)
Preferably something UK or US based, not too bothered either way as long as it's fairly reasonable in price and has a good service.
Not sure about bandwidth limits, to say the site is in it's early stages would be an understatement, but something flexible would be good.

Well when it comes to anything that isn't windows hosting, I'm pretty knowledgeable about but when it comes to windows hosting I'm clueless about it as I pretty much never have any need for it. One of my business partner is looking to place there site on a more affordable hosting since there current rate is pretty high.
They have a simple site, which they are really not looking to get much traffic or use anymore then 2gigs of space. Probably needs at least one MS SQL Database and that's it. No more then 5gigs of bandwidth. All they want is something for show thats it, other then that they don't utilize the site for anything.
Can anyone recommend a good host for this with 24/7 live support?

I own a few domains without websites; is it a good idea to show ads on them; do people actually earn anything by displaying ads on empty domains; my current hosting plan doesn't have quota for additional domains so how do I do that without buying a hosting.

I've recently re-designed my website to WP and my host which I've been with for the last 5 years has suspended my site for system abuse. Is WP no good? They suspended it last week so I added a cache which they said had fixed it, now they've comeback and said its still overloading. My site gets around 500 visitors a day. Does this sound right?
I've already had to ban google bots from my forums because of overloading in the past.
Can anyone recommend a host that can handle a wordpress site that gets 500 visitors a day?

I have always had cpanel reseller hosting accounts and am familiar with WHM. However I need to spread my sites out a bit and am noticing that multiple hosting is a fair bit cheaper than reseller. I don't host for others so dont really need reseller but am used to whm.
My question is how does multiple site hosting work? As I understand it you just have one logon with one ftp account. How do you upload and seperate/configure your sites? and can I still use .htaccess files for redirects?

I am not a programmer. I saw boonex software and i liked it.
I am thinking to launch similar site for my univesity.
I am expecting to have 40 000 users, and maybe 4000 users logging in at the same time.
I saw shared hosting offering lot of storage and bandwidth, like hostgator, vistapages, servage.....
My question is: do you think these shared hosting can handle my site? because i dont want to end up for dedicated server , specially that it is free site.

I am planning on starting an online arcade site, as well as work on other projects. Probably will start a network of websites to do the obvious.
I need:
- A good amount of bandwidth (as i plan to pay for advertising) (500GB+?)
- A decent amount of space to host multiple projects (25GB+?)
- Support for hosting unlimited domain names
- Unlimited MySQL databases
- Unlimited pop3 email accounts
- Support for PHP, AJAX
I am not planning on hosting any adult content or doing any reselling. I just plan to start up multiple websites and need space to experiment. As for a budget, i'd like to pay quarterly, so 20$ max every 3 months for now. Let me know what ya got,
