FTP Timing Out When Uploading Small Files
There is a behavour with my server FTP when uploading a whole directory with many files in many sub-directories
Very often, the server disconnect itself when actively uploading files and the log simply says 'timeout'
It is as if the file got 'stuck' half way, and the FTP consider them as idle, therefore it disconnect you with a 'timeout' before reconnecting you.
But i have no problem uploading a single 200mb file to the server via FTP. I suppose no problem with 'keep alive'
So what is this behavior and how to solve it?

I'm facing a very strange FTP issue with one of my shared-hosting accounts, while all of my other servers are having no problems but only this one, when I try to upload a file (whatever file) larger than 500kb from my local PCs, in most cases, the file would stop uploading during the process and hang there until it times out. There are 2 interesting things though: The file transmission typically hangs when approximately 248kb of the file have been transferred, pls see the attached screenshot for example. If you look at the attached screenshot, you will notice that the uploading transmission hangs when 248kb of the file have been transferred. This is very strange and what I mean is that for example, I randomly pick up a file, and attempt to upload it onto my host for 10 times, now see, 5 times it will hang when 248kb of the total size have been transferred, 3 times it will hang at other points *near* 248kb (224kb or 280kb typically), 1 time it will hang at another random point, and 1 time it might be uploaded successfully (yes, there is still a tiny chance for the file to be uploaded successfully). My default internet uploading speed is 80kb/s-100kb/s, lately I found that, when I limit the uploading speed on my FTP client (e.g. max. 30kb/s), everything WILL WORK without any problem! No hangs, no interrupt.. Whereas when I free up the uploading speed limitation and let it upload with my regular speed, the problem appears again. It seems to me that the FTP hangs only when the uploading speed is higher than 60kb/s. However my host provider told me that they have customers uploading without any problem at over 400kb/s, and they said "there's no problem or limitations on the server at all". Up until now, I have done following things to troubleshoot the issue but with no luck: Contacted my host. Disabled/Enabled the PASV mode on my FTP client. Tried different FTP clients on different computers (FlashFXP and Filezilla). Rebooted my router and reseted everything with the factory default settings. Contacted my ISP for the issue, they "did something" but nothing were helpful. Rebooted all my PCs. Disabled both firewalls on my PC and on the router. Furthermore, I have asked another friend of mine in another city with another ISP to test the FTP uploading, but unfortunately he got the exact same problem. And I've done some search on the internet for hours but no one seemed to have the same problem..

Browser Timing Out/ftp Issues Asia Pacific/Australia/Oceania To US
I have a VPS located in LA, USA. For over a week now I have had the following network issues: - browser timing out (for me and visitors to my site) - ftp connection issues The server load is low so it's not server related. Traceroute TO the server appears fine. Traceroute FROM the server to users IP's appears to have issues over the SingTel/Optus network. My webhost says it's an issue for SingTel/Optus. SingTel/Optus Engineer say: "Our testings point to a problem either within Cogent's network or on a peering link between Cogent and Singtel in LA. I'd suggest that the owner of the domain (me!) approach his hosting provider and have them escalate to Cogent. We can't escalate to Cogent as we have no peering with them." So I've been the meat in the sandwich for over a week with no sign of a fix. My options appear to be to either move the VPS away from the webhost and host it locally (Australia) or to somehow wait for someone to step up and take responsiblity and get this resolved. My heart says wait as it's not *my* responsibility but it's costing me financially and professionally. Anyone else experiencing similiar/same issues from the Asia Pacific region to the US?

FTP Uploading Corrupt
The Details: XP Home, Verizon DSL, AVG, ZoneAlarm, CoffeeCup FTP, FileZilla FTP So this all started about 5 days ago and I cannot think of anything that I did to associate this issue with. I'm very computer savvy and no one else uses this computer except for me (to help move things along faster). Essentially what happens when I start CoffeeCup FTP or FileZilla FTP (testing to make sure it wasn't just a problem with CoffeeCup FTP) and try to upload image files it fails, not the upload itself.. but somehow the image files are corrupt (no they're not CMYK, they're RGB). So it shows the file on my server, correct size, no error messages. However, when I go to the image URL it just shows the image URL where the image should be. I then restart CoffeeCup FTP and everything uploads properly. I've checked the lines on DSLReports.com, I've checked ZoneAlarm to make sure that I didn't somehow accidentally click no to something (which is unlikely). I keep my computer very clean and very organized and very up to date so it would be more helpful to me if someone could share some ideas of something that could happen that's not of my control. Could this possibly have anything to do with SP3 (the only thing I can recall being a change on my computer).

Uploading Files
I've just uploaded my website files onto the server, the website is working fine, but I'm not sure my files are 'arranged' right. I uploaded my images in a folder, but all the rest of the files are 'loose' along with the index file. If I go to either of my domain names, the website appears, which is ok for now, but I only really intended it to under one domain name, so there may be problems if I want another site up there. I think my files should be in a folder. Is this right? Should the index file be in the same folder, or should it be outside the folder with the links changed accordingly. I've been emailing my hosting service, and they 've been trying to help, but I feel a bit thick because I don't really understand what they're saying. Could someone tell me in very plain english how the files should be arranged?

Uploading SQL Databases By FTP
we have been trying to import sql databases through cpanel. The old server the client was on did not have any control panel. While the new server the client is migrating to, has cpanel. We try importing sql databases through cpanel, but because the sql databases are so large in size, they corrupt while importing them. The client's old server he would be able to access all his sql databases through FTP. While with this new cpanel server, we can't upload sql databases by FTP. We are wanting to use FTP because when using cpanel, the sql databases corrupt. So is there anyway to upload sql databases with FTP directly into mysql when using cpanel server?

Uploading Files Through CMS After Moving To New Host
Hi guys, I've been having problems trying to edit my php.ini file which I think I've now fixed. The whole reason I wanted to do this was because I've just moved to Media Temple from another hosting company and I'm having a couple of problems with the switchover. Basically I use a CMS system to add properties which appear on the main website. I also upload PDFs and images. On the old hosting company, the PDFs and images went into folders called dnDir/pdf and dnDir/images but on Media Temple, they are going in to a folder called tmp. I really want them to go to the same place as they used to. Is this an issue with php.ini that I need to rectify? If so, could you point me in the right direction?

Prevent PHP Files Used For File Uploading
It appears that some people like to take advantage of those files for online web applications such as Wordpress which have php files with permissions set to 777. They use those as a means of creating an upload file. The upload files that they create then have access to the whole server somehow... Is there anyway of preventing this from happening?

People Uploading Much Bigger Files To My Server, That I Want (using Php)
i have free hosting server and a rule to upload 3MB file max. it works for FTP, but somehow it doesn't work for php. Uploading Flash Video Files To Host_A Doesnt Play Well But Plays FIne On Host_B
to upload some flash videos over to our web host. All the videos have been uploaded to << link removed >> and in there you will seea flash_video directory, in there should be a html file where you can double click and watch the flash video. Now go ahead and try it, click on the HTML file and click CONTINUE and try clicking on MODULE 1.. You will see a video play to the left but on the right are bunch of POWERPOINT slides that will appear as the guy continues to speak. THAT DOESNT SHOW.. I have a website that just serves small files, under 10kb most of them. I just need a server that lets me ftp the file to it, set up subdomains and domains for one website. Don't need to manage mysql or anything. Not even php. Just serve files. A good fast OS? Something like lighttpd? Ioono? I'm currently doing 600gb of bandwidth per month. I'm expecting to do about 1000gb by the end of the year. Would a small server like a pentium 4 be able to handle just serving files?

When I upload a file in FTP I can not see the file, When I upload the file again asked me to file any replaced it exists, When using Cpanel can upload any file, And working well. I'm having a problem with one of my users on my box. For some reason they cannot delete files or change permissions and sometimes while uploading, it says the server has reset. I haven't had any issues myself but what could be causing this? I am using a Linux Fedora 4.0 box with Cpanel.

Webhost With FTP Accounts That Cannot Overwrite Files
I need a webhost (Linux preferably) with some fairly specific FTP account requirements. I am going to need to be able to create an FTP account that multiple users can log on at once and they can upload files but NOT overwrite files of the same name. Can this be done? Anyone know of a host with these options? This is for a program I'm working on where users make images and they upload them to the web. I don't want to use HTTP uploading because I don't know how to script it when FTP is easier for me. I wouldn't want people to learn the filenames of images and upload images with the exact same name to delete people's files.

How To Automaticaly Download All Files In A Folder Via FTP
I am having trouble with moving my files to another server. i have 1 servers, 1 hosting account (no ssh), both are using different control panel and i need to move all of the media files(movies) in the hosintg account to other server since hosting account contract will expire soon. So, i am thinking of using FTP to transfer multiple files using mget command for FTP. But the thing is i will need to be there any press enter( to accept download) for every single files to be download. Which is very time consuming since i have hundred of files to move. I'm not sure why my brand new dual proc quad core xeon 2.5ghz harpertown gets time out when the server load is under .5 Like it'll be running ultra fast and suddenly, I can't get into ssh, whm, my websites or anything. When I ping it, no reponse. Is it because it restarted itself?

I am pleased to say that the server is now responding well and the load is always below 1.00. However, sometimes a user will experience a time-out through their browser. A Tale Of Woe And Bad Timing
I decided to merge 2 old dedicated servers into 1 colocated machine with better specs the old machines have a combined number of about 280 accounts. I purchased a Broadberry Server and requested a specific setup and OS (CentOS) after some delays they finally got it working and shipped it to the Datacentre I chose 49pence/RapidSwitch for colocation in the UK I received a email from 49pence on how they wanted it setup and Broadberry did this as well which was good. Unfortunately I got the email it had been received and installed from RapidSwtich before I received the email regarding server admin and password info Broadberry set a very weak password up a bit of an oversight this As within 12 hours of it being installed it was hacked! Being a UK bank holiday we were unable to do anything till today And now we are having to retrieve the server to reinstall everything and start again! I hope the companys involved will be cooperative so we can get this up and running asap. My severs at Coreix end later this month. A lesson to be learned for us and I hope anyone reading Next time we have a check list to make sure nothing gets overlooked! Luckly no data on the server and no harm done other than cost and time.

Geo Load Balancing Via Timing Connections
I'm working on a script to help users get routed to the nearest, fastest server for the best ping. I'm in 2 datacenters, one on the east and one one the west coast of the US. I've looked at some of the geo lookup programs based on IP, but they either seem inaccurate or expensive.. and just downright difficult to use. I found out that some geo load balancers use the connection speed to figure out the best route. So, I'm trying to think of a way of timing the users connection from multiple server locations. Has anyone here done that sort of thing before? Any suggestions on how to best do that? Two completely different methods I've considered: 1. putting 2 images on a web page, and using javascript to time the loading of them. 2. pinging the user IP from each coast and seeing which is fastest. (Is there a lighter way than ping? )

The FTP access will be transparent to the user. Does our dedicated server sound like it could handle this? My guess is yes.

Uploading To Multiple Servers
A website I am involved with may soon hit a problem due image uploading being stored on only one server. We are unable to find a realistic solution which would allow us to upload images from 1 central location. The website is programmed in PHP and is on a standalone web-server - currently the images are uploaded to the same directory as the website however we are looking to move the images to another server for scalability. Is it possible at all to upload using a directory link of some kind, eg, the directory would be /serverip/path/to/images which you would upload to? Or any other realistic approaches that you know off.

Uploading To Htdocs -> Err...
I've been using a Fedora Core 6 box to develop my site with PHP and MySQL. The web directory is /var/www/html. I just recently bought my first hosting plan, and it says to upload my site to the Htdocs folder. Is this a BSD server? I know nothing about BSD, and I'm worried, because I don't know if my site is going to need to be re-written. You see, some of my files, like the db connection script, are in /var/www/myfoldername ... Is there an equivalent on my new rented server, where I can put these files? How about my databases? When I run the installer I wrote to create them, it just creates them, and FC6 has been doing what it will with them to get them working. Am I going to have issues connecting, because they're stored in a different dir?

MySQL Phpmyadmin Uploading
I am using Windows XP (my laptop) to run a server for localized testing for a site that I run. I am using the WAMP5 on Windows XP. I got everything setup (phpbb board) vanilla install. Everything went fine, no problems. The script uploaded all the tables on its own. I pulled the database from the real server to drop into the test site. Every time I try to upload a sql file that's 11.9Mb in size, I get a "Error: You probably tried to upload too large file. Please refer to documentation for ways to workaround this limit." so I checked the configuration and set it to a 1024Mb file size and like 2048 memory size. I even tried a 30Kb sized file and I still get the same error. What do I need to do to get this to work? Also when I check all tables and use the drop down menu to select drop, it just bring my back to the start phpmyadmin page and nothing happens. I can drop the table individually, but that'll take too long, there are over 40 of them. What else do I need to look for/configure so this will work?

Uploading Scripts And Hosting Policies
I'm working on a php app that will be publicly released at a later point, that includes uploading functionality, but on my testing account, I get acces to /temp denied for permission reasons. How normal is it for this type of obstruction to occur with webspaceproviders in general? If this is a fairly common policy, I need a solution of somekind. Perhaps uploadig the file temporarily to a folder on the users own webspace, instead of the location on the hosting server, being used by PHP by default (/tmp)

i have a problem trying to upload files to a server, when i try and upload a file, (.htm) i get a message: file already exists (even though it doesn't), which if i then say to overwrite, it creates an empty file of 0mb, (with the name of the file i am trying to upload). i don't know a great deal about web servers - are there any web server settings which may be causing this.

Can someone volunteer (using the word "volunteer" because the one who agrees to help can be getting some really beginner level questions) to help me on uploading my website to a web server. The thing is i have designed and optimized (seo) some websites but i never had an experience of uploading a website on webserver (in other words launching it). I have this simple webpage and a free hosting service (Frihost) ... once i learn how to upload a webpage and get it running online .. i will make changes in the webpage and go for some paid hosting service. Error 406 When Uploading From Flash
I've recently moved to a new provider and noticed that one of my sites that was using a flash file uploader without any problems now receives a 406 error whenever a file upload finishes. After some digging online i found that the problem could be caused by mod_security and found a tutorial which explains that by using .htaccess u can disable mod_security for the particular domain. I've tried that but receiving internal server error who seems to indicate that mod_security is not actually running. I looked at the domain's error log file and no entry is being written to the log when the error occurs. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it? Or at least where to look for the causes. I'm using the following flash uploader: [url] Server is running CentOS and WHM .. the original server that didnt have a problem with the uploads was running Fedora and WHM.

Uploading 500MB Tar.gz File In Telnet
I am having trouble uploading a 500mb file with File Manager in the control panel as well as SmartFTP. I was told to upload this large file through Putty. I able able to login through SSH as root, but i can't seem to find the right directory to upload this file into. This file is a backup file of the home directory. I am transferring all files from my old host to my new host. How would I find the right directory and upload this file through Telnet.

Here is the procedure to upload websites and their subwebs (subsites) with FP 2002/2003 Upload the website with FTP Install FP extensions Wait for the DNS to pullulate Open your remote website with FP Convert folders to subwebs as needed Upload (again) all your website files with FP An error message will appear: "cannot find a web server at <domain name> on port 80 ...." select <OK> Wait for FP to stop and a message "status unknown" will appear start uploading again A message asking something about replacing remote files will appear. Select <YES> Repeat the process for each subweb (it might take a while) At the end, you will find a status message: "Successful upload", or similar That was all It works for some hosts with cPanel but I cannot be sure if it works for all Some just require oppening the remote site with FP and convert the requiered folders to subwebs as neeeded.
