Exim Keeps Sending Thousands Of Messages To Non-valid Email.
Feb 14, 2007
For the last 5 days, exim has been retrying to resend email to a recipent every
1 millisecond.
As result, logs are huge, and load is being affected.
So I'd like to know how can I set/configure exim to ingore sending to any
email I'd tell it.
I mean is there any config file I can look into, to set a ignore list, or even
how to have it so that it retries sending every 1 hour, instead of every 1 millisecond.
My server has plesk 12 with Ubuntu. The problem I have is that the messages go with a valid domain keys signature, but without the DKIM signature.I'm not using opendkim.
We're on a VPS and lately we've been getting a few 'exim has failed...A restart was attempted automagicly.' messages. Support indicated that we're hitting our limits and suggested that we move to a bigger package or remove accounts. I only have 2 active sites on this account. We're new at this and don't know if there's anything else we can do.
Does anyone know what could be causing exim to fail?
exim queue is always being filled by millions of spam mails...
In 5 minutes more than 1000 messages..
I have removed all several times but they insist in coming back..
In 1 one min:
1Ju7q6-00039t-031mDeleteDeliver Now ALEXNSONIA@MSN.COM 1Ju7q6-00039w-161mDeleteDeliver Now ALEXNSTEPH4-1-98@MSN.COM 1Ju7q6-0003A0-2s1mDeleteDeliver Now ALEXIA27@BELLSOUTH.NET ...
I migrated a client from a Windows server to Linux and everything is fine except that mail sent to this client (say, example1.com) from a particular domain (say, example2.com) simply disappears and does not reach at all. Mail sent to that other domain (example2.com) from my new client (example1.com) is delivered correctly.
Incidentally, that other domain (example2.com) from which the mail is sent is with the hosting provider who was earlier providing services for my newly acquired client. Should I suspect anything? Or, is there a way to figure out what's happening?
I have MailScanner running on my VPS, but it isn't configured to filter at RBL level, only at Exim level, so I don't think this is the issue.
on whm/Cpanel I have set max emails per hour limit to 250 for the server, but when a user tries to send thousands of emails, the server still accepts them (they are placed in queue but not delivered) and load spikes.
I am wondering is there is a way for exim to reject those emails when the user attempts to do so.
I have a customer that wants to send emails using Exim and SMTP (using outlook), withouth authentication. Now.. the big question is ... how can I configure the Exim server to work withouth any authentication?
I know the risks of this withouth any authentication, but is my customer's server and he want to work in this way.
He is also asking if he is able to send emails withouth authentication using SMTP for certain IP addresses.. is that possible? Can be done for only 1 domain, or for the entire server?
I need to backup some emails from my VPS, Can you please tell me where my emails are stored, I have a VPS running CENTOS, PLESK and POSTFIX mail server.
i'm wanting my users to be able to upload pictures to their accounts via email by sending the picture to a central email address (pics@mysite.com, for example).
from there, i'd like to take that incoming email and parse it how i see fit. (matching the email address to the user account, inserting the subject as the photo title, etc...)
I was checking my emails today, and have had several that have bounced back. They all returned a message like this:
Quote:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at web1.daniel15.com. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
<email address removed>: 167.206.4.79 does not like recipient. Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 Your mail from IP 66.79.185.81 was rejected. We can't currently accept your message. : <email address removed> Giving up on 167.206.4.79.
One of my users is receiving way too many Mailer Daemon messages and his mailbox is full. I've had this problem from time to time and I am trying to figure out how to block mailer daemon messages for a specific domain so that they do not even get on the mailing queue...much like when you set a default address to ":fail:". So I came up with this:
refuse_md1: deny message = The original message did not come from this site. condition = ${if eq{$sender_address}{}{yes}{no}} condition = ${if eq{$local_part}{userdomain.com}{yes}{no}} log_message = Refused a bounce message for userdomain.com
However, this doesn't help. The emails are still going to the mailing queue and when I look at the Exim log I see the usual error message saying that the email was blocked because the account has run out of space.
Since upgrading to Plesk 12 I am experiencing a strange bug:
When enabling the limitation of outgoing email messages, is not possible to RECEIVE emails to a account that is only redirecting the email messages (to a different account which also lies on the server).
I reproduced this behavior on two different servers from which one is a complete reinstall.
The maillog will then show the following error when receiving mails to a redirecting address:
Aug 1 04:04:34 xxxxxx plesk sendmail[16709]: handlers_stderr: DATA REPLY:554:5.7.0 The message could not be sent. You are not allowed to use sendmail utility.#012REJECT Aug 1 04:04:34 xxxxxx plesk sendmail[16709]: REJECT during call 'limit-out' handler
I can find very few information on this error message, but when disabling the limiting feature, everything works as expected.
I have a server(godaddy) with plesk. It was all working well till 8 - 10 days ago. I didnt notice it one week later where I started receiving a lot of failed mail notices. Then on investigation, there were more then 50K spam mails in the mail queue and the mails that were supposed to be sent(registration, forgot password) were also held up in the queue. I found the source of the spam and fixed that.
Also I cleared the mail-queue. Now when I try to send out a test message, it still gets held up in the mail queue. But I can send a test mail to the same domain (info@mydomain.com). All new user registration mails are also held up and this is greatly affecting the site.
I have a problem with my server. If you send any message to any gmail account, that message will only arrive in spam/bulk folder. I tried changing subjects, and no use any message that you send only goes to the bulk folder. Ip of the server is not blocked in any know database, I checked.
I've managed to setup my cPanel box to allowed connections to port 995 for receiving POP email over an SSL connection.
However, I can't get sending to work.
My setup: RHEL 4 cPanel 10.9.0 Stable APF firewall
I allow outbound ports 25 and 26. I'm not sure where to put them in APF to allow this.
Also - it won't work with the firewall off either.
This is the error I receive in OE:
Quote:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.EDITED.com', Server: 'mail.EDITED.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 26, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I purchased a shared hosting with these guys. I transfer domain / Set up email accounts, ect. Everything is working flawlessly.
So, yesterday my boss was riding my ass because he said he couldn’t send email. I went over to his house, and he was right it wouldn’t send (his client is entourage). I verifier’s smtp settings, and it just wouldn’t send. I found the problem to be his SBC.
Of course he doesn’t believe that (still thinks the mailserver is the issue).
So to draw this to a close. is there any way to verify that an email is being sent.. such as a receipt that the 'message has been sent'? He's using entourage on the mac.
Also, what is you're normal procedure to troubleshoot smtp/pop issues?
