Email Server On Dyn Ip
Oct 23, 2008
i have a rolling IP and on a bt business connection and have a dyn host name from dyndns.org (xtcservers.mine.nu.
i have an email server setup up an is now receiving email wit no problems but sending is a different matter.
i am using Dovecot IMAP server an Sendmail and roundcube webmail client ad i say receiving mail is fine from both outlook an webmail client. but when trying to send mail it shows this error (reason: (554 Mail from 86.159.133.235 refused, see RBL server zen.dnsbl)i think this is because this is from a dynamic ip.
is there anything i can do when i first set the server up i could sent mail to but just stopped after my server crashed an had to install a fresh copy of linux.

I currently have a domain on Server 1 (Linux, Apache, Ubuntu, Matrix control panel).
This server does not have any spam filter, so I have moved all the email accounts to Server 2 (Linux, Apache, Fedora Core, Plesk) which does have a brilliant spam filter; and have changed the DNS record for mail.domain.com to the IP address for Server 2.
Emails are being successfully received on Server 2.
On Server 1, when an email is sent through SMTP to an address at that domain, it does not send it to Server 2, it gets delivered to the hosting account for the domain on Server 1. So what I am guessing is happening is that Server 1 detects the domain has an account on the server, and instead of looking up the DNS info for that domain, just assumes it is on Server 1.
What I need to do, is force Server 1 to send email for that domain to Server 2. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be achieved? If more info about the server is required for a solution please let me know and I'll provide what I can.

I have a client who has his own hosting account, and wants to leave his e-mail on his own hosting account, but his website on my hosting account.
On his own hosting he has created a sub domain called shop, and pointed its A record to the IP address of my server. On my server I've setup his domain name, and created the sub domain shop. That all works fine.
The problem I have is that the site under the shop domain needs to send an e-mail to sales@hisdomain.com. Now my server thinks the main domain is setup on my server, so it sends the e-mail to itself.
I'm justing wondering how I can get the server to point the mails back to his hosting?
A previous host I've used said they had to add the domain as a remote domain on the server, then they had to make some changes to /etc/localdomains because I was getting errors trying to send mails to the address.

This is the scenario, domain.com are setup on server1, however server2 also has the same profile of domain.com as we use ns3 and ns4 using domain.com. This works fine with the nameserver setup on server2.
However I encounter problems as the emails from server2 won't reach server1 as there are duplicate profile on server2.
My question is how do I setup the DNS in cpanel/whm from server2 so the emails from server2 will reach server1?
Server1 (www.domain.com)
ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com
Server2
ns3.domain.com
ns4.domain.com

I have a collocated server which I'd like to do some upgrades to. I'm having it shipped back to me so that I can do the upgrades myself. However, since I use this as my primary email server, I need help setting something up so I have no email downtime.
I have a cheap shared hosting account with DreamHost so one idea I have is to point the domain to their servers and handle things through there for a bit. This seems like the "brute force" way to do it though since I have to wait for DNS propagation and what not. Another idea was to use a service like DynDNS' MailHop BackupMX which does storage and forwarding. However, this service is kind of expensive ($30) considering I'm only going to use it a week or so.

I'm a web and software developer that owns and maintains two servers. Mainly I use these servers for hosting my clients (I dont sell hosting as a stand alone) and for development. I offered email as a service to my clients, but after 3 years of doing it, its just too much. I want to get rid of serving email. Certainly there is someone who has had a simular expierence and found a solution?

well we have a reseller pack due to some reasons all the mails from our sites are going to bulk/junk ..all scrits and webmails.... our mailserver is clean not backlisted and not even warned we tried many things ..but have not worked
so as a solution we have though of following ..are those possible and might work
1) as all sites mails are going to bulk i think they are using ip for that .ip of mail server..can we use another mail server with another ip ..with in existing dns address...just chaning ip of mail server ..and use another mail server whose mail are going to inbox...
is it possible
2) can we use smtp server to send mail ..we have smtp address of our isp and google smtp as well
can we use it to send all emails in our all websites...
is it possibles.....what can be problems
is there any other way ..without changing(service provider) of the reseller package
any way

I'm using a shared hosting plan. I dont want my emails to be blocked if other sites spam emails. Would a dedicated IP for my domain/email prevent other sites spam on the server from affecting me (ie being blocked from hotmail, etc.)?

I am having trouble delivering email to hotmail from one server that was reported as spam source yesterday.
We have removed the offending account and placed a request to msn support to remove any block on our IP address but still have not answer to our request since almost 24 hours. Still keep receiving the same answer:
Quote:
550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit [url]for email delivery information and support
Is it possible to route my server email though another machine at least while the ip address is kept blocked? I mean may I use any firewall rule to move all port 25 trafic to a clean server to avoid the delivery problems?
I have 100 customers who can't communicate with its partners due this problem.

I am having a slight email issue after moving my DNS to DNS Made Easy. On my wordpress blog I have it set to email me comments which the blog does just fine but ever since the DNS change I am having a weird issue. I use gmail for my email which threads emails. Now everytime I get a comment on the blog wordpress sends a new email and gmail doesn't thread them like it used to.
Do i need to add something to my DNS for mail. I never added anything and the server is obvisoulsy sending mail. Yep I am a noob and a little lost. I hope you understand what I am getting at here.
* GMAIL threads emails
* After DNS Change GMAIL is not threading my wordpress comments only
* Never added anything to DNS records in regards to email from the server
Thanks a lot guys. hope you got an idea. I did search google and wordpress with no luck.
I added a screencap of my DNS

I am setting up a web server (2-3 websites, colo) but am wondering if setting up a mail server (IMAP/SMTP/Webmail for 4-5 mailboxes) alongside is a good practice?
Furthermore to my question, I only need SSL cert for email server and not for websites. Can this be done? Yes or no would be enough for now.

The way Exim is setup on Cpanel/Centos is that it adds the origination IP and server IP address that the email is relayed through.
Because many RBL's flag Verizon and Comcast ISP IP's as spam sources; it causes my email relayed through my server to be rejected. Note: My server IP is not on any RBL for spam or abuse.
Is there a way to edit Exim to only use the server IP adddress that I relay through?

My company has been having some issues with our email periodically but our host provides no help other than a graph showing the amount of daily relays.
Does anyone know of a good email server montior or diagnostic solution that works with MailEnable? Preferably something free or cheap.
I basically want to be able to get in and see what emails were sent and received from who and the IPs if possible. I don't care about seeing the content of peoples emails but just a report similar to a telephone bill would surely help.

I received many email spam recently, with the sender address from my own server.
Eg.
my domain = www.shashinki.com
email spam that I received = shop@shashinki.com which is being sent to my own email address of shop@shashinki.com. Yes, the sender is my own email address account.
I checked using gmail and the sender is from my own server IP address and the sender's email address seems to be valid and is from my own email account.
I have changed the password of my email address, added SPF to my email system...etc. I have done all that I can think of, but I still get the same spam emails.
What can I do and what should I do? I got really tired of this and I am worried that my server is being used to send spams to others.
My server is with LayeredTech, unmanaged server, so I dont have a manager to help me.
Hope to get some insight and help from sifus here...

I would like to help my friend to host his email service on my VPS server. His current shared web hosting unfortunately has a quota limit on the number of emails he can send each hour, which is very inconvenient for him.
I know how to modify the MX record of my friend's domain in his current web host using Cpanel, but I don't know how to set up my server to accommodate his email service. I'd appreciate if anyone can teach me how to do it. My server also has Cpanel/WHM installed.

I have a community web site with high traffic. The site is similar to facebook, meaning we send a notification for every action (new messages, poke, ....).
I was wondering what solution would you suggest for mail server? For now I have a powerful server with postfix that sends around 12000 emails per day (using the php mail function at every action).
Is there a better solution? Should i get another server and relay to 2 servers?
Is there any tools to check if the server is able to handle all emails or if I need another server.

I recently signed up a new client to my dedicated server - The minute they switched over to my server, it seems that all hell broke loose. (I'm going to refer to them as "Company A")
Company A called me up and said that one of their employees was getting a huge amount of SPAM and that after a day or two, they were having issues with their E-mail.
I looked at my logs and it showed something unusual-
LOGIN FAILED, user=myclientuser@companya.com, ip=[::ffff:XX.XXX.170.47]: 110 Time(s)
When I explained this to Company A, they ran some virus checks on their computers and 3 out of 5 computers had viruses on them.
They claim to have fixed the viruses but now, they cannot send e-mails to specific clients.
I checked their I.P. against blacklists and they are using Comcast cable internet at their location and I cleared their only blacklisting (spamhaus.org).
I'm still getting calls that Company A cannot e-mail a few of their clients and just to make sure it's not JUST them, I tried to send a test e-mail to the same clients as Company A.
The e-mails from me were rejected due to time-out.
HERE IS MY QUESTION:
Is this an issue on MY end that must be taken care of *OR* is it due to the fact that they had viruses on their computers and now they are blocked because the virus tried to attack everybody in THEIR e-mail address book?
None of my other clients are complaining of e-mail issues or that e-mails are getting kicked back. Just Company A.

If i want to run e-mail server on my machine are those thing all that i need:
1) Separate machine running Linux + UPS
2) Internet connection - ADSL/WiFi (what is minimal acceptable down/up speed for running server normally?)
3) Domain name + one or two static IP addresses acquired form my ISP
4) Email server and webmail software
5) One man that know everything about server security and settings.
Why i want to run server at my home is because i have two spear machines with lot of HD space which can be perfect for this use. Only problem could be internet connection... Is ADSL good enough for me?
Also target public for my E-mail service will be 99% from my country (so ping should be lower than other commercial VPS from USA...)
But still i would like to hear opinions from people that know much more about this topic than me. So what do you think is VPS better soultion than hosting server at home?

We just moved our website to a dedciated server and everything is up and running fine. We also send out about 5,000 emails on a monthly basis and the list continues to grow. We currently have one IP Address for our website and want to have a mail server also. We would just send the emails from our new server, but are affraid to use the same IP address because we read about people getting their IP blacklisted. We don't spam, these are all people who have requested our emails, but you never know and would rather be safe than sorry. If we want to create a dedciated mail server, do we just get a new IP address and use the same server or do we have to go with a completly new server? What programs are best for this type of email?
