We're currently testing Postini after checking with Message Labs, etc and it seemed that Postini was the most highly recommended out of all of them. We shall see, as there does seem to be ALOT that get past their filters with spam level filtering set at their most sensative level.
However, what could I do for accounts with Hosting Firms. We have a couple on Pair, and while they use SA, their filters doesn't seem to be really effective at all. Users can come in over the weekend, and have 5 valid emails out of 200 junk......
BTW, has anyone used any of the spam appliances out there lately.
We tested them about 1.5 years back and none were really effective
Has anyone had any good results using spamassasin? If so, how did you go about setting it up? I was hoping someone would share some real world settings that work.
Can you control SPAM on a server ? I've got this email account that all receives is SPAM, nothing else. I'd like to eliminate this so it doesn't get any more SPAM.
Assume that I want 3 URLs -- a main, 'real' URL and two misspelled variants.
Through a domain registrar, I register theCorrectSpelling.com, misspelling1.com and misspelling2.com.
I retain the services of a web host and set up theCorrectSpelling.com with them.
What's the mosti) effective way andii) cost-effective way to establish misspelling1.com and misspelling2.com so that they refer/point/bounce to theCorrectSpelling.com?
Do I have to establish additional sites (with potential associated costs),
I'm considering the advantage of using some of my hosting space/accounts to offer an affordable reseller package. (Yes, I do have permission to do this)
Anybody got advice/tips on how you've/would set this up?
We have a linux server running cPanel/WHM and using Exim for mail, we're also using SpamAssassin to label messages as spam. I have made a few modifications to settings and installed things like DomainKeys, but am wondering if I am doing enough.
My objectives are to:
1) Prevent mail users on the server from being inundated with spam, and/or be able to effectively manage any spam that does come through.
2) Ensure that messages that my mail users send out remains as highly deliverable as possible.
3) Make it difficult for third parties to exploit my mail server for their own spamming needs.
Are there any good tutorials out there on this stuff that should at least cover some of my bases? Where should I begin? The only thing preventing me from hiring out the work to someone else is that I'd like to learn how to do it myself.
I currently have a vps server from GIGEServers, running at 512mb of dedicated and 1024mb spike it seems like apache is using alot of resources, does anyone know of a less hog, or tips on tweaking it, and the same for mysql server any tips on tweaking.
Customer wants to move his website in-house along with his email. The hardware guy installed a windows 2003 64-bit exchange server. I logged in with logmein and created a directory c:Inetputwwwroot hewebsite. Copied iisstart.html to the new dir. Put the company name in the iisstart file. Opened IIS6. Went to properties of the default website and pointed to the new directory on the home dir page. Added iisstart.html the Documents page and moved it to the top. Closed everything. Opened Internet Explorer 7 and put in http://localhost. All worked well. Brought up the new start page. Opened IE7 on my pc and put there ip address in and it also brought up the new webpage (tested the port 80 in the router). Said we were ready to go.
The hardware guy sent me an email stating that he was having problems with the 64-bit version and took the server back to the 32-bit version of windows exchange server. I logged back in with logmein and followed the same exact steps as above but it will not show the new webpage. Am getting a page not found error.
I have done the above on several 2003 servers and several xp pro machines. Always works.
Have done one 2003 exchange server. Went to a couple of those servers and made sure the default website settings were exactly the same as the ones that work. Still no help.
Downloaded an iis6 troubleshooting program from microsoft but cannot locate the error. I have been studying the II6 documentation and 2003 exchange server documentation. Went thru all the tutorials in google on iis6 and exchange I can find no help.
We are starting to bring a few servers in-house rather than leasing them. We decided to do it ourselves for our email server and a few others. We are starting with a 15mbps commit on fiber (via ethernet hand off), and don't plan to exceed 20-30 any time soon, but if we did we need remove for expansion on equipment.
What Router/Router Series would you guys recommand for a small budget friendly project, but more importantly something that is very stable? I'm pretty tech savvy, however easy to configure and maintain will be high up on the list....
Also what switch brand/series would you recommend that are cost effective and can handle a decent load?
It's recommended to make thread_concurrency = Number of CPU's x 2. But this is really effective with latest mysql5 versions? [url] Default 10 Range 1-512
Why to set it to 8 (4 cpus), for example, if recommended default value is 10? And why to set such a low value if range is till 512?
Also, how to check assigned value as "show variables;" command omit this value.
Some of you may have read my previous posts about a dual server configuration I am currently working with. I run a high traffic forum which has up to 2-3k of people online at once. I was wondering if it could be effective to setup MySQL Replication of certain tables which are read very frequently and then modifying the script to grab data from the slave server rather than the master? For say viewing threads, forums etc. Information which isn't updated literally every second.
A few questions...
-Will this place a lot of load on the master having to write the data to the slave as well? As in would the load I save on SELECT queries be used on writing to the slave anyway?
i've got a server that averages 3-4 TB a month. it is starting to max out the limits on the servers capacity and i want to setup another server on a different network that can help load balance, and if one of the servers are down for any reason the other server would take on all the load while the other server is down.
I've few servers which just transffered to another data center. After switfed, my sites having the problem to be access in some area. So I thought the propagation hasn't work fully. However, yesterday my technical team found that there's actually an error at the broadcast ip(entered wrongly). So we immediately change to the correct ip.
Can we get the broadcast ip work immediately cause my sites having trouble to be displayed.
Can anyone recommend a good case/enclosure for a sata raid array? I would like to build an array using 500 GB SATA Harddrives. Will the server need much processing power and ram if I am going to use a decent hardware raid card? What card would you recommend? Are there any premade sata arrays that allow you to just pop in your own harddrives and don't cost thousands of dollars?
Also, can anyone recommend a enclosure if you had a server that had build in raid with 8 sata ports, but only two harddrive bays and wanted to use the entire 8 ports?
Does anyone know of decent data centers in or around the Orlando, Florida area (possibly as far east as Tampa...) that allows 24/7 walk-in access and doesn't charge a fortune? I'm looking for a really small amount of bandwidth but I'll need around-the-clock access to the machine.
Currently my site is having a extreme surge in traffic (in and out). My webhost just sent me a warning, saying that my site is generating abusive traffic to the host's network.
Code: Please be aware that abusive traffic is being generated from your IP, xx.xxx.xx.xxx, directed to our network as seen in the logs below. We have added a Nullroute for this IP on our network for a period up to 24-hours. Please take action to remove and prevent this abusive traffic from being generated. Repeated offenses will result in a permanent Nullroute of your entire network block.

I have purchased my own 3 IPs so I'm sure this is not the case of sharing the same IP with another account.
I've checked the cgi-bin directory but there is nothing there except the usual default file (test.cgi). And I never have the right to alter the cgi-bin directory (can't remove, can't add files).
The traffic surge costs me 10 GB (in) and 5 GB (out) bandwidth a day as opposed to the normal 100~200 MB a day. I haven't ask them the exact form of the abuse. So far, I think my IP has becoming the source of abusive traffic that burdens THEIR server.
I've checked the latest access.log and everything looks normal.
But when I checked using menu Virtuozzo/Traffic Statistics, I can see that the incoming and outgoing traffic are surging up unnaturally (this is the third day).
I have ffmpeg installed on a webserver. If I enter the command to begin a conversion process, or the command is sent through PHP via exec(), it keeps going until it finishes or runs into an error.
Is there a way to cancel a conversion process after it's been started either through the command line or via PHP exec()?
I have CSF on my server (configserver security and firewall) and it blocks the IP when my server gets attacked, but it always seems to be a little too late... Apache goes down, even though the IP is blocked. I end up running:
iptables -I INPUT -s xx.xx.xx.xx -j DROP service httpd restart
And that tends to sort things out... but the thing is, sometimes they still manage to attack and even though csf sends me messages explaining how it is connecting, I can check the "deny IPs" and the ip shows as blocked...
What other software is there (eg. mod_evasive... but how can I install it...) that I can run without harming my server, causing problems with CSF or any problems for that matter and how can I install it?
I designed one of my web services so that 'nobody' has to put commands to cron. Unfortunately this thing stops to work from time to time because "someone" is putting 'nobody' back to cron.deny file.

Is there a script or program which I can use to start my game servers remotely? I am giving my friend a free game server, but the problem is that he wants the power to start/stop the server because he wants to update the binaries. I am not looking for a game server control panel, but more like a small script or program that has the power to start/stop the server. The game server I am hosting for him is Team Fortress 2. Also, it has to be free since I am not going to make any profit of this.

I will move my vbulletin site from one server to another server.
my web data is more than 10G including mysql data, I know I may stop the vbulletin at first and move data. but I am expecting a minimal forum-stop time or no forum-stop time.
My concern is, if I don't stop the vbulletin at first, after I dump sql data out and retore them to the new server, it would be more than 3-4 hours, there must be some new data come in during that period. how may I keep the vbulletin running and move all data to new server?
I am trying to run backups to an off site location, however, I have noticed that even if I try on the server side, it will only backup 2gb, which when I check the backup, the file structure is there, but there arent any files in the backups.
I saw some spams and I try to remove them on my cPanel server from WHM > Mail Queue

We have a VPS Server from one of the most reputable VPS Provider. We have 384 Guaranteed RAM and 1GB Burst. We have Dual Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 265 - 1795.503 MHz with 1024 KB cached allocated to our VPS.
It is only hosting 2 average forums (10-15 concurrent users in total) and 30 small websites, low traffic websites.
The problem we are having is, almost 3 times a week, the cPanel, named and apache services keeps stopping. I am monitoring our server when this is happen and prior to the event its only using about 300MB RAM and low CPU..
What could be causing this problem? Do I need to upgrade our RAM?
