Can 260w PSU handle this cpu?

and the the motherboard 4 or 8 GB of RAM plus two SATA HD?
I am going to buy a new server and I am unsure of which route to take.
Basically the cost is identical for a Dell server with:
1 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.4Ghz
OR
2 AMD Operton Dual Core 2.0Ghz
What is the felling? Does the 4 cores out weight the extra 400 mhz per processor, but only having 2 cores?
The server will be running:
Windows 2003 Standard x32
Plesk 8.2
IIS 6.0 [ Application Pools Setup ]
MySQL
Microsft SQL Express 2005 [ONLY CAN USE 1 CPU/CORE]
MailEnable
Can my applications even handle/utilize four cores?
If you have experience with large mysql databases please share your thoughts about a new MySQL server. If all other parameters are the same, what is better for a 6-10 GB MySQL db, dedicated server?
Dual XEON or Dual Opteron 2212 Dual Core Processor?
Also, any advice on suggested RAM, partitioning, OS, etc. are welcome. Current MySQL version used is 4.1.21.
Which is the better performer?
(1x) Quad Core Intel Xeon X3220 2.40GHz 2x4M Cache
OR
(2x) Dual Core AMD Opteron 2216 2.4GHz 2X1MB Cache 1Ghz HyperTransport
This is for a web/application server running, Windows 2003 Server Professional, IIS, MySQL, MSSQL 2005 Express, Plesk 8.5. The price is about the same.
Which one is better?
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz goes with 2GB RAM
and
Dual Opteron 246 2.0 Ghz goes with 4GB RAM
I use this server for a little big forum with about 16,000 member, 300 members + visitors online everytime and 2 more sites (small sites).
One more question, Is 10Mbps switch port or 100Mbps switch port affected to speed?
Does the single physical processor Core 2 Duo beat the Dual (physical) CPU AMD Opteron 244 in general?
I am curious as I don't see many people offering them anymore, and someone told me that the Core 2 Duos are actually faster than the 2 CPU Opteron I am talking about.
Trying to determine how much better, if any, the Dual Opteron 265 would be over the Quad 6600... this is for a dedicated server.
Also... would it be worth $20 per month more for a Dual Opteron 2212?
Which one you suggest for running database server and VPS's?
Dual Xeon3ghz 1mb dual core vs Quadcore 6600 2.4ghzx4 core 8mb.
if these were decent pricing for the following dedicated servers:
DUAL QUAD-CORE XEON
2x XEON 5345 (8x 2.33ghz)
2GB FB-DDR2 667 RAM
250GB HDD
THIS CONFIG - $350 / mo
DUAL DUAL-CORE OPTERON 285
2x OPTERON 285 (4x 2.66ghz)
2GB DDR 400 REG/ECC
250GB HDD
THIS CONFIG - $250 / mo
SINGLE QUAD CORE Q6600
1x Core 2 Quad (4x 2.40ghz)
2GB DDR2 1066 RAM
250GB HDD
THIS CONFIG - $200 / mo
They are all listed as 10mbit unmetered and they show the following for their providers:
Qwest, MCI/Verizon, Savvis and BTN
Does it seem about right? I'm new to hosting and just wanted to make sure that it is decent pricing.
I don't think it got any security feature that allow you to lock the server with key or some sort. what do you guys with SuperMicro mini 14" 1u server do when you deploy it?

what does the bracket do? do i need rails for colo or can the server be mounted on the rack and where do i get the rails for it?
edit: i just read the comment by one buyer.
"Pros: No expenssive rackmount rails required, mounts using the intergrated ears, very good airflow for such small case. Very well built, pretty solid for price range. "
so no rails is required...by intergerated ears i assume he mean the two handle on each side and the bracket can be use to mount the server. how strong are they? Can they really hold the server?
We are going to buy 2 servers. One will be a Apache webserver (PHP, ZendPlatform) and other will run MySQL.
which one is better Dual Xeon or Dual Opteron? Below are the available options.

Dual Xeon E5335 Quad Core (Clovertown)
Dual Xeon E5420 Quad Core (Harpertown)

What's a better choice DUAL XEON 2.8GHZ 533FSB w/HT or Pentium D 925 3.0 Dual Core?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust recently while browsing Newegg and Ebay, I realized I could build a great server consisting of Dual Opteron 270's to 280's with Dual HDD's, Great Asus 1U Barebones Setup , 4GB of Ram for about $650 if I went with used CPU's
Now I don't know about you, but that sounds like quite the bang for the buck. Also considering I have an aggregate bandwidth commitment, and only pay $50 per server I add to my rack, it really isn't a huge downside to say build three of these rather then one Harpertown setup.
Well at least this is my opinion. I was curious to see what others opinions are. I figure with the up and coming cloud technology, and the high prices of new technology, this would be a good investment, but do you think it is worth it to build outdated hardware? Would I be better off just building higher spec servers? How do these servers stack up to some of the newer technology? Are they still considered poewrful?
Anyways just thought I would get some opinions before I went and bought a bunch of outdated hardware
Does anyone know how a Pentium D 2.8ghz would stand up to a Dual Processor Opteron 246, when running gameservers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm considering two hardware options for a server.
2 x AMD Opteron 265 (1.8 GHz clock speed x 4)
2 GB ram, 2 x 160 GB RAID 1, Windows 2008
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6 GHz clock speed x 2)
2 GB ram, 2 x 160 GB RAID 1, Windows 2008
Which hardware should be better to run a Mail server, IIS, MySQL and a few other http based services?
The X2 5000+ is around $8 more than the Dual Opteron 265 per month.
Which one do you prefer?
- dual opteron 252 / 2GB RAM DDR / 15K rpm SCSI disk
- core2duo E6400 / 2GB RAM DDR2 / raid-1 sata (raid-edition) disks
It will be used for a big vBulletin forum. Price is around $200 different, core2duo a bit more expensive.
I now have 2 options for my new servers, first one specs:
Core2Quad Q6600
4GB DDR-II 800Mhz
2 x 250GB SATA II
and another one:
Dual Opteron 280
4GB ECC DDR (it should be 400Mhz)
2 x 250GB SATA
They are about same price as the second one is used system and the first one is brand new.
So which one should i choose?
I want to colo dual xeon 3ghz/ 2 x 250 sata drive and Dual core 3.0 / 2 x250 Sata drive.
How much amp these server need? One colo company said 4amp for dual and 2 for dual core. Do I need 6amp for 2 servers? Rack comes with 15amp so I need half rack?
I've had a dual Opteron 285 (dual core 2.6ghz) server with Layered Tech for the last couple of years, and I have a nice offer for a Core2Duo e8400 machine.
Currently my sites generates an average of one thousand simultaneous connections -- will the Core2Duo 8400 be more responsive than the two Opterons 285?
There always seems to be some Quality issues with the Nvidia chipsets, so I was looking at getting some feedback on boards if any of you have been using anything else yet.
Normally I only use Tyan for server builds but the only alternative to Nvidia chipset is the Thunder h2000M (S3992-E).
I'm looking for stability #1, performance #2
I'm looking for something non Nvidia but simular to the "TYAN S4989WG2NR Quad 1207(F)" as far as features.
I run a large forum and I currently use dual Amd Opteron 248 with 2 gigs. I am looking am moving server to Canada and I am looking at Iweb and they don't offer opterons. Do any of these compare to a my opterons? I also plan on adding 2 more gigs of ram.
My options at Iweb
Core2 Duo 2.4GHz (800MHz FSB)
— Add $45.00 /month
Core2 Duo 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB)
— Add $70.00 /month
Core2 Quad 2.4GHz

different opinions on dual cpus and dual core.

AMD Dual Core X2 4000+ vs Pentium IV 3.0

where is currently the "best" places to rent a dual core atom with about 2gb of ram, storage requirements are very low sub 50gb.
I am interested in getting two of these in total in different dcs (US/EU only).
Also something which I feel would be interesting is getting one up with a SSD. Has any one come across any where offering this?
There seems to be alot of variation on prices directly in the atom niche, and then we you compare it to the same companies offering on their bigger brothers (quad core xyz) it makes things much more confusing.
I have no interest in cheaper 5 year old hardware which might compare speed wise
