View 6 Repliesi have a strange issue on one of my servers where dns keeps freezing or hanging every now and then, if i restart the service on cpanel.
View 6 RepliesOne of the linux servers I run is just *not* stable, like freezing every 48 hours at random times, being unable to respond to pings or connect through SSH. The server comes back after a hard-reboot.
Since other boxes I manage, a lot more busier and using the same kernel and OS are just up and running for months, I'm just wondering if I should switch hardware / server to test
OS is CentOS 4.4, official kernel 2.6.9-42
I see *no* kernel panics at /var/log/messages
I see nothing weird at other logs (apache, etc) so I'm kinda lost as I don't know where to look for clues.
One of my server hang w/o obvious reason. What is the checklist to adhere when troubleshooting? It is running on FreeBSD

how can i find out what has caused my server to hang/overload once its rebooted?
I know that the SWAP maxed out but i am unsure why.
I've recently upgraded squirrelmail to latest version, and now I get problem like 3 or 4 times when u login and logout and try to login again the page freezes and gets stuck it's saying "connected waiting for reply" it keeps happening not only to me but every user in the server (multiple connections and multiple computers)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run the OpenVZ PAE kernel with 8 gigs of ram to back the server, however the server keeps suffering from hangings.
It starts 2 or 3 vpses fine, but once it hits 4 or so, it hangs without a kernel panic or any other proper error message.
The kernel version is 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5.028stab039.1PAE but it also does it on 2.6.18-ovz028stab039.1-enterprise
Anybody have the same problem and come up with a solution? Node is running CentOS 5.
I have a dedicated server running CentOS which has been been running fine for a while now.
On the odd day Apache used to hang, I presume due to load so I installed SIM (System Integrity Manager) to check the status of httpd and to re-start when necessary.
Every now and again SIM would email saying that apache was re-started, no big deal.
Then this morning I got a email from SIM saying apache was down but couldn't be re-started. I then logged into the shell and tried to do a: service httpd restart
I then got a message saying something like: could not bind to port 80. I then tried to kill all httpd processes and re-start apache but the problem persisted. I then just rebooted my server and apache started fine.
Since then I have had hundreds of emails from SIM saying that it has had to re-start apache. Somehow it is detecting it as down and re-starting it. Apache seems to be up and fine. Re-installing SIM does not help.
The weird thing is when I logged in using Putty I got the "server's host key did not match the signature supplied" message like something had changed.
Rkhunter does not return anything just a couple of warnings.
Does anybody know what would cause sim to constantly detect Apache as down in this situation and also how this could happen with no changes being made?
For the last week, my vps (directadmin on centos on xen) has become unresponsive every three days at approximately 5 AM, and I'm baffled about why. It doesn't crash, but it stops accepting incoming connections until it's rebooted.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. /var/log/messages gives no useful information. There are no unusual cronjobs running at that time.
Anyone heard of anything like this before or have any advice about how to troubleshoot?
Recently brought a new server, works fine however when ever i run the command "make" either apache, eaccelerator or any kind of software a few seconds later the server hangs. It is then hard rebooted, no errors are shown the server just freezes.
Ive had a OS reinstall.
We had a Coldfusion site running MySQL without issues. We are in the process of doing some upgrades and as part of that we recently switched over to MSSQL 5. Ever since that happened, we will have random page hangs. This usually happens on pages with more complex queries, but it is very random. There is no timeout error on the server, no page cannot be displayed errors, no errors of any kind, the page will just hang. We have been monitoring our server resource monitor and we can see when the page 'gives up', we will go from 100% CPU down to almost 0, and then the page simply never recovers. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? When there is no error message of sorts it makes it very problematic to troubleshoot.

Is there any idea for fixing? It's SM PDSMI+ board. Kernel 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp #1 SMP Tue Jun 26 14:14:47 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I installed latest kernel ( 2.6.24.4 or 2.6.24.3 ) with grsec which either panics or hang on reboot before reaching boot prompt, just when /sbin/init runs. Experienced the same with grsec patched kernel 2.6.22.9 on several servers with the same hardware.
On server with AMD Operton, I was able to successfully compile 2.6.24.4 with grsec and boot into.

I am using apache proxypass to proxy to 4 different ports (java/jsp applications) with the following configurations (for each):
<VirtualHost *:80>
ProxyPreserveHost On
ProxyRequests Off
ServerName *****.org
ProxyPass / http://*****.org:8080/ retry=0
ProxyPassReverse / http://*****.org:8080/
</VirtualHost>
Everything seems work fine until an awkward delay / connection timeout occurs. The web application hangs for about 5 to 15 seconds and starts working normally after that period. It's certainly not the application's issue because everything is fine when using IP address to access it.
When I enabled the debug log in apache, I found out that every time the server seems to hang, the following error appears in the apache error log and the number of apache child processes keep on increasing (ps aux | grep apache).
[Thu Apr 11 10:20:41 2013] [debug] proxy_util.c(1818): proxy: grabbed scoreboard slot 4 in child 13208 for worker proxy:reverse
[Thu Apr 11 10:20:41 2013] [debug] proxy_util.c(1837): proxy: worker proxy:reverse already initialized
[Thu Apr 11 10:20:41 2013] [debug] proxy_util.c(1934): proxy: initialized single connection worker 4 in child 13208 for (*)
[Thu Apr 11 10:20:41 2013] [debug] proxy_util.c(1818): proxy: grabbed scoreboard slot 3 in child 13208 for worker http://*****.org:8080/
.....
Also, the access log (access.log) completely stops during that hang period.
This debug message keeps on repeating as long as Apache/web-application is not responding. The application starts to work normally after that duration and the number of apache child process decrease to the normal number.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for.
To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page.
We use cpanel servers and are wondering how easy this is to do? I've seem mention of wildcard dns? Is that the answer?
i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly..
Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS??
I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries..
anyone?
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names.
I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries.
Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel,
ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40
ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41
But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries?
Is it really required?
I've been having some DNS problems with one of my domains for quite some time now. The domain does not always resolve - some go days without being able to access the site.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I have gone over the DNS records countless times and see no problems. The site is hosted on my own dedicated server.
I´ve a domain but haven´t set the DNS servers yet....now I get a free hosting and I wanted to associate the DNS servers to my domain but I don´t know how!!!
It would be great If you could help me...and let me know if you need more info..
This is the scenario, domain.com are setup on server1, however server2 also has the same profile of domain.com as we use ns3 and ns4 using domain.com. This works fine with the nameserver setup on server2.
However I encounter problems as the emails from server2 won't reach server1 as there are duplicate profile on server2.
My question is how do I setup the DNS in cpanel/whm from server2 so the emails from server2 will reach server1?
Server1 (www.domain.com)
ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com
Server2
ns3.domain.com
ns4.domain.com
I have been searching everywhere trying to find a tutorial but It is not going anywhere. Basically I need to create 2 nameservers for Godaddy and pretty much so when i type http://mysite.com it goes to my site. I can access everything from http://myip and everything works. Now is there a step by step on how to actually do it in the DNS Manager? I need help like what IP address do I use is it the router ip? The external IP?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi am currently with a host, hosting my important sites. I am now going to purchase some space from another host purely for storage purposes and bandwidth usage as they are within my budget.
Now i have my primary domain with my main host, and i would like to have a script or link from my current host which leads onto my 2nd host for users to upload their images or files. Now i have a problem, the second host that i will have will not have a registered domain attached to it, but rather it will be just storage.
I would prefer to have a subdomain from my primary host pointing to my second host. The problem is where will the subdomain point to? Or will it even work that way without having to purchase another domain?
I have 1 server so I setup dns as ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com ip address pointed to server1. So, now I just bought another server. Can I setup ns2.mydomain.com pointed to 2nd server. Also how to setup more servers ie. 10, 20 server because I can only set up to 6 dns in one domain name.
