Directadmin - Cpanel Backup
Dec 11, 2008I have a direct admin server and I am planning to take backup of all the accounts in my DA server to my friend server. This is just for safety precautions.
My friend server is Cpanel.
I have a direct admin server and I am planning to take backup of all the accounts in my DA server to my friend server. This is just for safety precautions.
My friend server is Cpanel.
I'm trying to decide what panel to get, I've used cPanel and DirectAdmin before so trying to figure out which is best suited for me.
Obviously cPanel has more features but uses more ram. Do I really need all the features of cPanel or can I get by using DirectAdmin?
The server I'm going to get will have 8GB RAM so does it matter that cPanel uses more memory because there is so much ram anyway?
If you were looking for a web host, which control panel do you want?
cPanel or DirectAdmin?
I know most will choose cPanel, but I want to find out how many choose DA and how many choose cPanel.
i am swtiching the hosting package from company A to company B. Company A is using directadmin and company B using cpanel.
How can i transfer all my mail to cpanel?
On average, how much memory does cpanel use when compared to a standard directadmin setup?
I've never had a chance to use directadmin before, but I've been reading quite a bit about it around the web and that it uses much less memory than cpanel.
Anyone used both? Which is better for VPS hosting?
I have been using cPanel for long and some custom panels like DreamHost and Site5 provide.
I have seen DirectAdmin a couple of times but never used it. Now my question is that:
Why we should we use cPanel instead of DirectAdmin, when:
* DA is cheaper than cPanel.
* People says DA support is better.
* DA have nearly all features cPanel have.
* DA looks prettier than cPanel.
I could be able to state more if I have been using DA.
Now, please list your REAL world reason to not use DA but cPanel. Lets keep it on topic.
My reason, as of now, is:
* Transferring site from cPanel to cPanel is easier than cPanel to DA.
I really need at least 10 reasons for not choosing DA.
I wanted a move 1 accounts from cPanel to DirectAdmin server platform. I know it has to be done manually. But this one account has 800MB.
So the question is:
Is it possible to tar public_html while keeping every permission & folder ownership at it's correct setting?
(Sql is not a problem for me)
I have heard that Direct Admin is much faster then cpanel & require much less resources then cpanel... I was just wondering if I get vps with 128 ram with Direct admin on it, would it be better than vps with 256 ram with cpanel installed... I am running 3 websites with almost 10 to 20 users at a time (at max 50).... I like both cpanel & directadmin but was thinking if 128 ram with DirectAdmin can give more speed on 128 then I won't spend more money on 256 with cpanel... If anybody have an opinion then please put it here...

So is important that the host have all the plans :
one with cpanel and one with directadmin (if have plesk and others is also better but not fundamental )
Is important also to have server in europe ;
For your experience are both stable the panels and which are the principal difference?
I have a reseller account that is hosted at ns1 / ns2.mydomain.com and it is configured via cPanel / WHM and is accessed by mydomain.com
I recently purchased a dedicated server and would like the dedicated server to have a ns3 / ns4.mydomain.com I also would like that the dedicated server be accessed by another domain (other than mydomain.com). Is this possible?
If that is not possible, what way is a good way of doing this?
I receive my server tha preinstall diectadmin. May I know is it possible I remove the directmin adn install the cpanel without format the drive?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to transfer (migrate) an account from cPanel to DirectAdmin?
And the other way, DirectAdmin -> Cpanel?
Has anyone done this or currently running this setup? to try it with my directadmin server first but havent found very good documentation or howtos. Ive looked the last week or so and havent really found anything helpful. So if anyone is running such a setup Id like to know how you did it and how much better if any it is.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI'm new to using directadmin and I've got a problem; I've not yet switched the DNS over to the directadmin server 'cause I want to make sure the sites work first, however I can't find how to view the sites. With cpanel you can go to http://192.168.1.1/~username (where 192.168.1.1 = IP of server and username is username of account).
is this possible with directadmin? I can't find anything about it, anywhere.
I have a vps with directadmin and some servers with cPanel.
I need migrate the emails of a client (only 1 client) in the directadmin server to the cPanel Server.
The problem:
The directadmin use mbox format email, and cPanel use Maildir format email.
(Note: The converter not work exactly for my issue).
My understanding is that if I join a webhosting company that operates the cPanel web control panel then my Outlook Express email program would get configured automatically.
However if the webhosting company were to be using DirectAdmin web control panel would I get the same benefit in this respect please?
VPS package and I have the choice between LxAdmin, cPanel, Webmin, and DirectAdmin.
I'm used to cPanel, so that's my comfort zone, but it costs extra.
I'm leaning towards DirectAdmin because I liked the demo site.
what the other webheads here might think.
I have transfer full backup with cpanel to ftp backup,
But,How transfer full backup from FTP Backup to cPanel?
Whitch software?
Recently I stumbled along a host on here with a good rep and that uses direct admin.
Because they were very nice on the live support I signed up to see what direct admin was like.
Its very diferent from cpanel. Some parts seem to be harder to use like the phpmyadmin requires the username and password to the database you created not the control panel username and password like cpanel. Although I guess that could be a good security feature just in case some one gets into the control panel they can not get into the phpmyadmin, then again if they are smart and were able to get into the control panel they could get into ftp and look what the username and password is on the config file for the script you are using.
The bandwidth meter seems to be better in direct admin although I think its acting up for me as its putting yesterdays bandwidth on todays. I was told by the host that it updates every 2 hours and at first it did but now its gone to every day. Oh and unlike cpanel this bandwidth meter includes bandwith used by the control panel.
Niether one from what I can tell counts sftp though at least for the hosts I have right now.
I am receiving errors while executing domainname.com/cgi-bin/folder/filename.cgi files in directadmin. The error is Internal server error.
I have tried the below things,
./script.cgi : no errors found
checked domain log : got premature end of script headers
checked suexec log : No errors
Checked the permission : all the files and folders under cgi-bin is 755
