So, I have one VPS acting as DNS server and few VPS for domain site hosting.

DigBuddy is an email deliverability and MX monitoring service. Customers sign up and input all of the email addresses at their domain and our monitoring system will check to make sure that these email addresses are able to receive email by logging in and attempting to send an email without actually sending one. It also checks the DNS, SPF records and a bunch of other stuff so our clients can be assured that they are able to send and receive email to a variety of networks without issue.
We need to set up monitoring servers on a number of networks across a number of countries that can be used to send and receive email. Basically all we need is a VPS with 512mb of ram and 19 IP's. It also must have an unblocked SMTP port 25 and the IP's must have a neutral or better senderbase score. We also need to make sure that the IP's have proper forward and reverse DNS entries.

I have a fresh server running CentOS 6 (final). I am trying to install Plesk 11.5.30 but i am experiencing some problems. When i run the plesk-installer i get this message:
Your host name must resolve to the correct IP address of your server, unless you are using network address translation (NAT).
Please quit Parallels Installer, fix the host name resolution problem, and then try installing again.
You can skip the hostname check and continue the installation, however, in such a case, the installer cannot guarantee successful installation.
Now, in my /etc/hosts file i have this:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
Is this correct? Or do i need to add/change something else?
My server is in the clound.

I am setting wildcard nameservers that are meant to resolve any dpim pointed to them. I need for my domain parking service.
I was able to set wildcard A records with BIND, and this is good. However, some registrars seem to look for the SOA records, and it seems that BIND doesn't allow creating such records. Therefore, I need to switch to another DNS software, but I can;t find any that supports wildcard SOA records.

I have a Cpanel DNS-ONLY secondary nameserver at ns2.frozenblues.com that returns A records but does not return MX records, despite the zone files having correctly synched with the primary WHM (11.11.0)/Cpanel server (at ns1.frozenblues.com). Again, the files in /var/named are all correct on the DNS-ONLY server incuding the MX info, and it is returning A records, but not returning MX.

One of our servers was incorrectly set up before migration occurred. Now the ns records are incorrect on many domains' zone files. Does anyone have or want to let me hire you to write a script to change all the ns records and that are currently ns1.something to dns1.something. It can't be for every domain on the server, just the ones pointing to the incorrect ns, as some of them are correct. Linux server.

I have Plesk installed on the master nameserver ns1.example.com, the dns slave manager extension installed, a working slave ns2.example.com and Plesk installed with working WHMCS autocreation of customers and subscriptions on a shared hosting server web1.example.com. I feel there's probably something obvious that I'm missing, but I can't figure out how to autocreate DNS records on ns1.example.com for customers on web1.example.com when new accounts are created.

I have just moved away from Kloxo Hosting, and I am a bit confused as to how I go about setting Client domains to use the (Already Registered) Nameserver Records I have created on the server.
You see, when I create a customer, the template adds the domain with it's own nameservers, ex: (ns.customerdomain.com -> 0.0.0.0) I don't want this to be the case.
What I would like to achieve, is for all my client's to have their NS records pointing at the NS records I already have registered on the server.
The reason for this is, when I submit the registration document to my local registrar, I have to specify the nameserver address for the domain, however, I only have 2 IP's on the server. I cannot glue every customer's domain FQDN to an IP.

I'm trying to save some money, so I will be moving from a dedicated server to a hosting plan, and I am going to downsize bigtime as my websites do not generate money they are just for fun.
I was thinking about going with godaddy, to host multiple different websites under one plan.
If I go with their hosting plan, it looks like I can create sub folders for each website, and the hosting is not a problem.
I do however use gmail to handle my mail. Is it possible to specify gmails MX servers under the account? or are they going to make me use godaddys?

Does a typical LAMP setup for a high enough traffic site(s) take enough resources to affect the performance of a game server? (we'll say 1million page views per day)
I'm speaking of say, 2MB of ram, dual xeon 2.8 type machine, with IDE drives. Nothing too fancy. 1 milion page views per day may be pushing it, so what about say, 200 per day?
Just wondering if anyone has a setup like this and how it fairs out at the game server end. I'm thinking of moving my websites over to my game server + add more sites over time, but don't want it to lag the game. I know as a fact bandwidth would not be the issue, I'm thinking more ram/cpu. The game I host (Ultima Online) uses very little bandwidth with even 30+ people online. I use less then 1% of my link capacity at most times. I've seen it spike to 5% and that's most likely when I was downloading data.

Purpose: I want to make my site load faster
Different Options Host images under the same domain - So no additional three way TCP handshake required.
Different subdomain for images - Browser pipelining can be utilized.
Different domain altogether - Browser pipelining can be utilize and also can avoid the site wide cookies with every request.
What is your opinion about this?

Do website builders generally go with shared hosting or dedicated server? I mean, if they work on several websites would they get a dedicated server instead of shared? From what I understand through reading shared hosting is basically if you only have one website. So one with multiple websites would go with a dedicated server?

I am in the process of setting up my server and have come to the stage where I am uploading my actual website scripts and files. I am a little confused however as to what permissions and file/directory ownership my website files should be set to.
My web root is set to 755 (rwx/r-x/r-x) with Owner as root, and Group as root. All files within the web root are set to 744 (rwx/r--/r--) with the owner and group the same as the web root. The permissions set allow php scripts to function but I am not sure if the group should be set to root on all these files, is this correct?
My site users have no ftp access if that makes any difference to ownership.

I got this error from dns report.
FAIL
Open DNS servers
ERROR: One or more of your nameservers reports that it is an open DNS server. This usually means that anyone in the world can query it for domains it is not authoritative for (it is possible that the DNS server advertises that it does recursive lookups when it does not, but that shouldn't happen). This can cause an excessive load on your DNS server. Also, it is strongly discouraged to have a DNS server be both authoritative for your domain and be recursive (even if it is not open), due to the potential for cache poisoning (with no recursion, there is no cache, and it is impossible to poison it). Also, the bad guys could use your DNS server as part of an attack, by forging their IP address. Problem record(s) are:
Server 71.74.*.* reports that it will do recursive lookups. [test] Server 71.74.*.* reports that it will do recursive lookups. [test] See this page for info on closing open DNS servers.

I'm asking because in HyperVM, I can see the max ram for the 2 packages as 2GB. how to check the guaranteed ram?
Also both of these are quad core but the other is showing 2.7Ghz per cpu while the other it's 0.5GHz.

I recently came from a VPS server where my provider gave me the names of their DNS servers which I then pointed my domain name to with GoDaddy.
I recently signed up for a dedicated server and asked my provider for their DNS servers. They replied that I needed to run DNS on my server.
Is this normal for dedicated hosting providers? Do I just need to point my domain to the public ip address on this server or do I need to load/configure DNS on my server? Is there sofware that I need to install?

I have found few web hosting services with support for:
- ASP.NET 2.0
- SQL Server 2000
Can anybody recommend such a provider with a solid reputation? In addition I should mention my site will be accessed by visitors in Europe (besides the US), how would I know the page load times are going to be acceptable? Do some providers 'specialize' in hosting sites for which a large part of the traffic comes from abroad?

We'll its time our business finally moved off of the Godaddy $30/month VPS server. We're setting up an eCommerce site with X-Cart and need a better server. Rather than paying $80 or so per month for a good VPS, we're considering buying a server (maybe a Dell) for around $1000 (Dual Core Xeon, 1gb ram, 80gb HDD) and running it off our Bell Business High Speed Ultra 6mb package (with dedicated IP) at our business. I'd likely install CentOS and a free control panel.
What are your thoughts on doing this? The site isn't super busy and we don't use much bandwidth. Would our customers likely have speed issues with the site if we ran off our own connection?

I'm working on a young site that will be changing its focus and its domain name to reflect the new focus. What is the correct way to change the domain name? In the past, I've simply created a new site in WHM/cPanel under the new domain name and copied the old site (and database) over, which was a great deal of work. Is there another way to do it that is less time consuming - without having to copy files? Are you not able to just change the domain name setting in WHM without having to copy the entire site over to a new directory on the server?
