Open Proxy Server Blacklists
Apr 10, 2007I'm having problems with users using open proxies accessing, abusing, and defacing my website.
I'd like to get a list of all open proxies and incorporate it into my site (i.e. block open proxy accesses)
I've already looked at SORBS, but that is DNS based, and I'm not sure I want to go that route. (I am running one DNS server for my own webserver to use. Don't want to mess with adding another zone for the dnsbl).
I've be much happier building my own php/mysql lookup of the proxy blacklist.
So I'm looking for somewhere I can simply download a proxy blacklist, and update it periodically as needed.

Has anyone else noticed that JUST WHEN YOU NEED TO GET AHOLD OF MIDPHASE their %^&*() phone system goes down.
I swear they've programmed the ^&*( thing that way!
Either "we're sorry, that option isn't available right now" (which is the Tech Support option) or you can't even get through.
Does anyone else find this issue with them?
And of course, their 24/7 online chat service just keeps on saying
"All operators are currently assisting others. Thanks for your patience. An operator will be with you shortly."
Some days ya can't win for losing!
Issue #2
Some idiot on the same shared server that I'm on has done something that has now blacklisted the IP my account sits on and I'd like to know what the normal time is to get something like this taken care of should be.
I was told it would only "take a couple of hours". Well, we're now pushing 12+ hours and it's still not taken care of.
Midphase indicated that it was an issue with another account on the same shared server.
Yes. It's probably my own fault for using a shared account and it's part of the risk I'm sure I take, but my gosh, this sure seems to be taking longer than I expected.
Meanwhile, the Black List gods have my emails held hostage. I can't send ANY emails out from my account because all the ISP's out there show the IP address my account rides on as black-listed because some dufas brain that shares' the IP address must have done something really stupid. Guild by association with the moron!
Changing Webhosts
Oct 25, 2009I'm changing my webhost after getting screwed around with countless downtimes and now their own site is completely down.
I'm looking for a new host, and had been looking at alot of review sites. After looking at a few of them, found that they were obviously fakes with almost 100% good reviews for some hosts, completely dissing some other hosts, and the complete opposite on some other sites.
Looking for recommendations for your own host, do state your site too so I can try out the response.
Criteria
excellent uptime
responsive support + live support chat
h-sphere preferred, but not a must have (I like having subdomains in directories at the same level as domains)
does not ridiculously overload their servers (well, who can tell?)
good site response time
budget at 10usd per month
allows many domains/sites, no need for super high bandwidth as I just host many small sites
PHP with .htaccess access + imagemagick/gd

I'm using the Bravenet thing because it was free and easy. But now I need to set up a vBulletin for computer repair and I only know how to navigate php in CPanel. (I had a bad experience with Plesk a few years ago)

Why Criticize The Overselling Webhosts
May 8, 2008I am owner of a web hosting company with a plan with overselling and I see plenty of criticism lately for resources that we offer.
In the country where we work, offer such a plan has allowed us to grow our business and invest in infrastructure that other web hosting companies can not afford. We have a large number of servers (Dell 2950, Xeon Octo Core, +8GB, Large RAID 10, ISCSI remote backups) and a network increasingly large/quick.
In addition we have highly qualified technical staff and technical support 24/7.
All this (managed correctly) allows us to accommodate all types of customers even if they have a relatively high use of resources. In conclusion, our customers are generally very satisfied.
Can Any GOOD Webhosts In The UK Give This ?
Jun 29, 2007Speaking from personal experience only, who are the good, helpful hosts, who can give a reseller account, with servers physically located in the UK, giving 20Gb Bandwidth and 1Gb Disk space, has excellent email support (in English!!!!!) within 20 minutes of sending the email, full access to Cpanel including access to HTAccess, all for less than 20 pounds a month.

I see in the plesk documentation that the screen to enable SPAM filtering for an individual there is an option to "Move spam to the Spam folder". I don't see that option so I am wondering if it is only available on some versions of Plesk, or in combination with certain mail servers. How to make that option available?

Currently, the only firewall on this system is the standard windows one.

Aug 19, 2007through some accounts on the server and the amount of spam in their mail queue is really frustrating. I had to set admin accounts for each site I run and the spammers have discovered them, so I am looking for a ssh command where I can just easily clean all the spam out. I tried cat /dev/null > /var/mail/"the username" but that didn't work.

I think it sent more then 30.000 mails in 2 days.
Also received a complaint from aol.
How can I trace this? What can I do to fix it?
Is it a some crappy written php script?

It seems that the servers used by the reseller account had some level of basic spam filtering installed; my provider suggested I look for a filtering program to install on my server.

I am a web host from the city of Kolkata, India.
Almost 95% of my clients are from my city - others are also known to me. I know many of them face to face - there are very little chances that any of them are SPAMMER.
Still my server IP is blacklisted - several times in last 1 year - I changed my datacenter - but the problem still persists.
Spam Being Sent From Our Server.. But How And From Where
Apr 2, 2009We're using whm/cpanel and we're always up to date with the latest upgrades (with all our scripts).
2 weeks ago, we receive a notification from SpamCop saying that our server was sending out spam. We verified everything and found nothing. 2 days ago, same story.
We tried looking at our logs and found nothing. Does this mean that there's a security hole somewhere? How can we find out from where the spammer is sending his viagra emails from ? We do not want to be permanently banned because of a spammer.

In my server there are many accounts and now I discovered that not all accounts, when they send email to hotmail and yahoo, go to spam.
It does not happen in all accounts.

It shows blocked because of this reason:
no reverse DNS, MX host should have rDNS - RFC1912 2.1
Is it actually possible to setup some kind of generic ptr records on IPs, even if they are assigned to dedicated server clients?
