Best Unmetered Option For Starting My Viral Site

Oct 26, 2008

What benefits/features do you think an unmetered dedicated server will need for a starting file hosting website that will market agressively/daily in forums/warez with the free benefit of 500mb of free hosting?

Simple/ but important details:

*I would like to manage the server myself with cPanel/WHM + Fantastico as I control about 60 of my websites in hostgator shared baby account(however, hostgator prices are way to high for dedicated)

*I have never had experience with dedicated server management and only have done dilligence as of today

* My budget is from $65.00 to $100.00

Will this next unmetered example be the perfect solution for fast uploads/downloads to start?

1 GB RAM
80 GB IDE DRIVE
Unmetered
5 IPS

Starting FILEHOSTING Site. Need A Fast Server

Mar 8, 2008

Starting FILEHOSTING site. Need a Fast server..

I am mostly looking for Unmetered Servers. Like FDC, but their servers are too slow as i heard from some of my friends.

Any other servers that are unmetered and offer good speeds?

I want a shared 100mbit for the start, maybe i will upgrade later.

I currently have 10mbit unmetered, but thats not enough for filehosting sites.

Viral Hosts ...

May 17, 2008

I'm having a little problem with web hosts and servers. I am launching a website very soon which involves viral marketing (like facebook, hi5 and other sites scripts which allow you to invite your friends on the site).

The problem is that every host I've tried till now had delivery problems with at least one email provider (like yahoo, hotmail or gmail). I even tried dedicated servers (Hostgator.com actually) and didn't have results.

I want to find a host or server which can ensure delivery on all email providers and that can work regularly.

VPS + Unmetered

Jun 20, 2007

I am trying to have vps because I have 130 websites in shared server.

My current reseller account has WHM/Cpanel, WHMReseller installed. - no ssh access

I think need VPS + Unmetered shared reseller(currently have one) for 2 reaseons.
1. backup/restore
2. Disk space

1. backup/restore =======================
I had a problem with hosting company, so I had to move all 130 websites in 12 hours without ssh access in both old/new server. (can you imagine?)
New server admin helped me, but their response were so late, so I want to do it my self.
Also, I need one more server that can immediately be switched if hosting company blowup everything. (hosting will be my life line)

2. Disk space =========================
All 130 websites are smaill size cloned websites (1mb~20mb) because I sell cloned websites with hosting.
I have unmetered space/bandwidth reseller plan now, so I can provide 5bg-10gb space for each customer. (they use only 1-20mb though)
If I have vps(15-30GB plan), I won't have enough space if, some clients really use 5GB space. So I may move clients who use big space to my unmetered shared reseller account.(currently have one)
In other words,
vps- many small sized websites
unmetered - big sized websites (a few)

I may need only one vps, but it's too much overselling if I give 5GB to each client. (that's why I have to connect vps to my current hosting).
Am I wrong?

I have no idea how to make this concept works.

I see many ebay sellers who sell unmetered hosting, and they have 2-5 datacenters and backup servers....etc.

Also, how can people generage a bunch of ips? Is it one of the function in vps?

Last question- Does it back up all sub-account if I do full backup reseller's cpanel?

Plesk - Fantastico-like Option?

Dec 30, 2008

I'm using Plesk on one of my webhosts (GoDaddy) and would like to know if anyone knows of a good Cpanel Fantastico-like option that allows you to update a string of sites with the latest updates. I'm more familiar with Cpanel.

Do you know of any?

Migrating From 1&1 Shared - Best Option

Aug 18, 2008

I'm fed up with the overloaded 1&1 shared hosting, looking into VPS now as I'm finally getting serious about one of my sites.

I tried offloading scripts and images to amazon s3, which helps a bit, but any sort of php application processing is painful.

Admittedly, I haven't implemented caching at all yet and my query count is definitely bad but even so load times seems excessive as the site isn't getting any real use yet, just me testing (and I will make heavy use of caching for all entry points in the near near future).

My must-have:

-PHP5

-2 seperate MySQL databases

-htaccess/mod_rewrite

-fast initial response time on loads

-unlimited subdomains would be nice

Don't really care about the control panel as long as it does what I need. I'm fine with command line and managing myself... looking for a cheap option that will allow me to grow to a medium sized site before I consider a full dedicated option.

Also, don't need an outrageous amount of bandwidth as I'm using S3 for css,js,images, and video right now.

I will be running two domains on this site... one is the actual site and one is a single sign on gateway that won't put too much load on the cpu but needs to serve up pages in timely fashion.

Unmetered Bandwidth

Oct 30, 2009

I was looking at a VPS plan that offered unmetered bandwidth on a shared 100mbit/s port. I thought it was a bit suspicious because it was at a very low price--but would this be what it means?

100mbit/s converts to 0.125 megabytes per second
= 7.5mb/min
= 450mb/hour
= 10,800mb/day
~ 334,800mb/month
= 334.8gb/month

Would that mean that I would be getting less than 334.8gb of bandwidth a month, but it's just filtered through to make sure I don't go over?

Im getting about 60KB down and 500KB up.

further since i havent been able to hold the number of radio slots I used to I feel like something is not right, i seem to get normal ping and traceroute but noticed that an mtr router displays some sort of odd results, am I reading this correctly?

seems like there is always a couple of hosts with a ton of packet loss. how can i tell if there is some kind of problem here? the server worked great for 6 mos and now it just seems like it never has come back .......

USA Unmetered Server

May 24, 2008

I've currently got around 10 dedicated servers for the MMORPG we run, 3 of which act as patch distribution servers / download servers.

The patch distribution servers are fairly low spec (Single CPU, 1-2GB RAM, 250GB HDD), but connect through a 100MB unmetered port - all of these are currently in the EU.

I'm now looking at a USA patch server, but not sure where to look. The only provider that springs to mind is FDC Servers but not sure how good they are these days. I don't mind if the provider is on the East or West coast (or even Central), but they must provide 100MBps unmetered (shared is fine).

Currently paying around $100-$200 for each other patch server, so would ask that $200-250 is the limit.

Unmetered Vs. Metered

Mar 8, 2008

Someone mentioned corenetworks.net in one of the posts, so I went to look at them, then checking out the options, it got me thinking about this, what is the difference/what does it mean?

Unmetered Bandwidth Options vs. Metered Bandwidth Options?

Unmetered 3Mbps/month +$0.00

Metered 1,000GB/month +$0.00

So, are they saying that I can get 3Mbps 24/7 for an entire month for no extra, or 1,000GB total transer at? Mbps (I would assume 10Mbps or 100Mbps depending on the setting.)?

Ok, so I am trying to answer my own question...

Let me just ask it. What's the difference?

They have an Unmetered @ 10Mbps for $350.00/month, but come on... Is it "really" unmetered? (Just like those shared "unlimited transfer" type accounts, where they hack you off at the knees when you go past their invisible "unlimited" number.

Metered Or Unmetered

What is the diference between metered and unmetered bandwidth. I was looking a one provider that I will not name and they have 1Mbps metered for $109 and then they offer 10Mbps unmetered for $139. To me unmetered sounds like a better deal. Is there something that I am not knowing or seeing between the two?

50+ Domains, What Is The Best Option? Seo, Mirroring, Forwarding, Etc?

Jul 22, 2008

I have a client that has one main ecommerce site and search engine ranking is very important.

They also have about 60 other domain names that are relevant to their main domain. example: pizzapie.com & cheesepizza.com.

The question I have is what would be the best way to utilize these domains without getting search engines mad (lose rank). Mirror? Forward? Or should I populate them with the same files? Or same files but change the text around as much as possible?

The last question is basically the same but they also have international domains with the same situation; pizzapie.jp, pizzapie.nz, etc. Would this be any different or does anyone have suggestions how to treat international domain names for ranking in US & the corresponding country?

Corei7 Kernel Config Option

Jun 16, 2009

I just got one of the new corei7 boxes, it looks pretty sweet. I am compilig a custom kernel now, doing linux-2.6.29.4 (latest grsecurity test patch kernel) and I do not see an option for the corei7, just Core2/Newer Xeon. I had been googling and seem some posts about kernels now supporting i7 but no info on the config. I do know the installed distro - centos5 64 bit, it ran fine on the first old kernel and latest kernel got in yum update.

Does anyone know of any patches or anything out there that will help harness the full capabilities of the i7? Or has anyone else compiled custom kernels for your i7 without issue and what processor type did you choose?

Backup Option In Master Reseller

Jun 18, 2008

I have bought a Master Reseller recently.

I have some technical question in my mind regarding backup.

I will start step by step.

1) I login to the WHM.

2) I click to WHMreseller Master Resellers placed on the bottom of the left menu.

3) There I saw some options at the bottom , 'Migrate' , 'Backup' ,'Change Owner', 'IP Delegation'

4) I clicked on 'Backup'.

5) There I saw two check boxes:

Enable Weekly Automated FTP Backups

Enable Weekly Automated Local Backups (will only run if cpbackups are disabled by root)

My questions are very simple:

Q1) What these two check boxes mean ?

Q2) If i check 'Enable Weekly Automated FTP Backups' and save these settings then every week , back of my all cpanels including cpanels of reseller will be generated or wht?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Cannot Add New SubDomain - No Such Option

Feb 21, 2015

After I post my desired subdomain as mysubdomain.domain.com on /mysubdomain.domain.com/

I get "Error: phpinimng failed: Usage: phpinimng [options] [php_ini_file] phpinimng: error: no such option: --global-config" on main window.

Tried to search how to fix this error, i managed to find that there is also " missing or incorrect /usr/local/sb/include/init.php ". As for this error this doesn't work [URL] .... It's already correct permission 755.

The subdomain appears only in DNS records on my domain. But not in the main plesk panel window.

OS is Debian 7.6 and Plesk 11.5, mysql runs over sock

Maybe I could create manual configuration over ssh in /var/www/vhost/ dir ..?
