Advanced mods, require compilation to standing installation of apache but the server status is said to be precompiled with the version.

Long Running Apache Processes In Server-status
Feb 13, 2007I'm not sure I understand the server-status page enough to know if this is a problem or not, but I have several processes that seem to run forever, or until I restart Apache. e.g.

They are almost always on a single domain (there's about 100 on the server) that's a Wordpress site. These processes are also almost always a search engine.
On the rare case I see them running on other domains on the same server they're always on Wordpress sites.
The longer the processes run, the more processor/memory they use, the more they slow the server down.
It seems to have just started in the past few weeks, I've had the site there for a couple years.
Apache :: Error Reading Status Line From Remote Server
Aug 6, 2014We are currently using Apache 2.2.10 as the reverse proxy for the SAP portal server 7.3.1. The SAP applications are built based on webdynpro abap technology.2 of the apps are getting intermittent spinning circles. The Apache server will ultimately timeout and give the "bad request" and HTTP 400. We were never able to reproduce the problem except we do see users are running into them. Obviously, the problems occur very randomly, but often enough to generate a lot of support tickets. No error was generated in the sap system log.
Here is what I see from the apache access log and error log:

I found bug 37770 and went to see the apache admin. But he thinks that the parameter(proxy-initial-not-pooled=1) that fixes the bug only applies to mod_proxy_http. However, we are using mod_proxy.
Apache :: Reverse Proxy Modules - Error Reading Status Line From Remote Server
Oct 17, 2013We have been using Apache 2.2.x with reverse proxy modules for our clients to access their OWA servers for over a year. I want to get us to Apache 2.4.x so I setup a test box with latest 2.4 on it. I fixed the config file issues since 2.4 has changes in it. OWA proxy is working on my test server with Apache 2.4. But with 2.4 I do have an issue I cannot figure out. Note that this does NOT occur with Apache 2.2. I get the following errors when using ActiveSync through reverse proxy:

So somehow with Apache 2.4 there is some sort of timeout that was not there with 2.2.
Apache :: Accept Files In Home Directory - Development Server Access Denied
Jul 19, 2014I have recently switched from Ubuntu to Mint because I would like to enjoy out of the box functionality. I installed Apache, PHP and Mysql. When I go to localhost, the page displays correctly indicating that the server is functioning. In /var/www/html I created devPages. In devPages I created a symlink to a directory in my home directory where I keep all of my html/php files.
When I point my browser to http://localhost/devPages/1/ I get "You don't have permission to access /devPages/1/ on this server". This appears to be a permissions/ownership issue. I don't want to change the permissions for the directory or files in the home directory because they are set to work properly on my production server. Is there a way to get apache to accept files in my home directory?
I have set owner and group for devPages and the symlink to www-data. Set permissions to 755 for devPages.
By the way, under Ubuntu, I have always used a symlink and it always worked without any issues.

Jun 30, 2014After upgrade to Parallels plesk v 12.0.18 update #5 we were getting a blank screen. We have managed to get logged into the server but have errors - plus all the websites are down with a 404 error Apache Server at gardenbuildings.domainame.co.uk Port 443.
On the Plesk management it is showing: New configuration files for the Apache web server were not created due to the errors in configuration templates:

I have a certain area on a homepage which is protected by an .htaccess file. The code of the .htaccess file is the following:

Usually everything has been working fine with this .htaccess-file until today. There hasn't been any change on the system.
If you click on the hyperlink to the restricted area the login window appears where you need to type in your username and a password. After typing in these data the following message appears in the browser:
500 Internal Server Error

The apache error log file contains the following message:
Request exceeded the limit of 10 sub request nesting levels due to probable configuration error.
Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary.
Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace.
The increase of the LimitInternalRecursion does not solve the problem. So I switched the LogLevel in the httpd.conf file from warn to debug and looked again on the entries of the error log.

On our production service, we've been getting numerous malformed POST requests to some of our CGI scripts that are showing up as 500 errors in our logs. They are malformed in the sense that the actual content length doesn't match the Content-Length specified in the request.
Here's the most trivial example I can come up with that reproduces the problem for us:
POST /some_valid_alias HTTP/1.1
Host: example.org
User-Agent: Arbitrary/1.0
Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------41184676334
Content-Length: 769
-----------------------------41184676334
In addition to the 500 error in the access log, we see the corresponding error in the error log:
(70014)End of file found: Error reading request entity data
Based on the nature of the POST request and the error response, it does appear that Apache is doing the right thing here.
The POST never actually makes it as far as the script being targeted (/some_valid_alias in the above example); in other words, Apache returns 500 to the client, writes the error to the error log and never executes the script.
Is there a way to capture/avoid internal Apache errors like 70014, and return some other HTTP status besides 500 (like 403)? It's particularly annoying in our case, because our server sends us an email for all 500 errors.
So far, our best "defense" against these 500 errors is to disallow POST for these aliases, which normally just ignore the POST data anyway (when the request is not malformed):
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^POST$
RewriteRule ^/(some_valid_alias)(.*)$ $1$2 [R]
But this won't work for all our scripts, because in some cases we do want to permit POST.

Server Access Denied
Sep 18, 2009I have a strange problem that I encounter sometimes. I have 3 websites on my hosting account. About once a week, I will try to access one of those sites and I will get a timeout or connection error in my browser. I will not have any problem viewing any other websites and as soon as I restart my computer, I can view my sites again.
It seems like either my computer, wifi router, isp or webhost decides to block me from accessing any of my 3 sites for no apparent reason. Restarting my computer fixs this. My ip does not change when I restart my computer so I do not know why it would suddenly allow me acces again but it does.
What is this problem likley to be? A bug on my computer, a bug on my server? My isp being retarded? No one else seems to have any problems accessing my site, I would guess it is a local issue. What I can not figure out though, is why it only happens to my own websites on my hosting account. This never happens when trying to view any other websites except my own(on my hosting account). This cannot be a coincidence. It is a big mystery to me.
FTP: Access Denied On Whole Server
Apr 12, 2008I have many accounts on my server, everyone can connect via FTP but when they try to upload something they get "access denied", i get it too, sometimes it works for a few minutes and goes back to giving me access denied. I have not changed any settings since it was working just fine before. I checked the folder permissions, user permissions, used chown command to make sure the folders belonged to the correct users/groups and I disabled the firewall same thing, any ideas what might be going on? do you this I have a virus on the server? it's a linux server

It's already up and running with static IP address, however hosting offers a "Static IP Address", which doesn't really make sense, cause I already have one?
Other thing is domain name. Current domain name is registered with a different company and we don't really want to transfer it from that company. Can I get away with importing a domain name and changing MX records in the domain control panel?
Last thing is an email server. What do I need to set up an Email Server? I have a domain name with few POP3 email addresses. I thought about using hMail server for windows. What else do I need to do, pay for?

to understand this page on cPanel. I can imagine that red dots are not a good thing while the green ones are, but I don't know what it all means or if I should be complaining about this to my host...
Fopen Permission Denied On New Server
Jul 26, 2009I'm migrating from shared hosting to a VPS. I have transferred my files right over, and permissions are all the same as they were on the old server.
The fopen scripts are giving me an error when trying to write to files.

The permissions on the file are 644 and it can read from the file just fine. Giving the file world write permissions fixes the problem, but I don't want to do this for obvious reasons.
I think the reason this worked on the shared server had something to do with the apache user being defined differently but I'm honestly not sure. The php file executing the command is owned by the user that owns the document I'm trying to write to (in fact one user owns everything).
how I can fix this without giving world write permissions?
