Apache :: Accept Files In Home Directory - Development Server Access Denied

Jul 19, 2014

I have recently switched from Ubuntu to Mint because I would like to enjoy out of the box functionality. I installed Apache, PHP and Mysql. When I go to localhost, the page displays correctly indicating that the server is functioning. In /var/www/html I created devPages. In devPages I created a symlink to a directory in my home directory where I keep all of my html/php files.

When I point my browser to http://localhost/devPages/1/ I get "You don't have permission to access /devPages/1/ on this server". This appears to be a permissions/ownership issue. I don't want to change the permissions for the directory or files in the home directory because they are set to work properly on my production server. Is there a way to get apache to accept files in my home directory?

I have set owner and group for devPages and the symlink to www-data. Set permissions to 755 for devPages.

By the way, under Ubuntu, I have always used a symlink and it always worked without any issues.

New Files /home/virtfs Directory?

Feb 24, 2008

I'll mention this is a cPanel/WHM server with about 15 accounts on it.

I get an e-mail everyday from my server's backup script telling me what new or changed files it found. Yesterday this summary was massive, and it showed new or changed files in these directories:

/proc

and

/home/virtfs

The type of files it contains:

"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/140/task/140/exe"
"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/139/exe"
"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/139/task/139/exe"
"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/227/exe"
"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/227/task/227/exe"
"/home/virtfs/[username]/proc/374/exe"

The /home/virtfs directory is something I haven't seen before, and it contained two directories belonging to two accounts on the server.

Does anyone know why these directories would be created or what they are for? The bit of reading I've done on this so far mentions that these directories will be created as a result of jailed SSH, but neither of those two accounts have ever had jailed SSH enabled.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Transport Error - Unable To List Directory / Access Denied To Remote Resource

I seem to have an error with backing up to my personal FTP repository. I have only just noticed the issue, but i believe it originated when I upgraded Plesk Panel 11 to Plesk Panel 12. I am currently running version 12.0.18 on Cent OS 6.5.

Note whether i check the "Use passive mode" option makes no difference to my problem.Below is what I get from the panel.log under /usr/local/psa/admin/logs

Home Directory Move Issue With Apache, CentOS 5

Apr 19, 2008

I moved the home directory for apache from /usr/local/apache2/htdocs to /home/username/www

When I go to browse the site, I receive a 403 error, You do not have access to / on the server.

It gave the OK default page for apache before moving so I am assuming it is a permission issue.

What do I need to do? apache is running as the default "daemon" user and group.

Apache, Linux, Access Denied Error

Jan 2, 2007

I have apache, php, and mysql setup on CentOS 4.4. I have phpMyAdmin running perfectly in a folder in /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin. I can access phpMyAdmin and use it perfectly. I downloaded Cacti which is a server monitoring application written in php, nothing special. I untar the file and it creates a folder, I simply do a mv command from /home/sys/cacti to /etc/www/html/cacti. Then when I open my browser and attempt to access: [url]I am getting a Access Denied error. It makes no sense though, I have verified the permissions of the files and folders, all good.

The group owner and owner are root, the files are all -rw-r--r-- and the folders are drwxr-xr-x.

Server Access Denied

Sep 18, 2009

I have a strange problem that I encounter sometimes. I have 3 websites on my hosting account. About once a week, I will try to access one of those sites and I will get a timeout or connection error in my browser. I will not have any problem viewing any other websites and as soon as I restart my computer, I can view my sites again.

It seems like either my computer, wifi router, isp or webhost decides to block me from accessing any of my 3 sites for no apparent reason. Restarting my computer fixs this. My ip does not change when I restart my computer so I do not know why it would suddenly allow me acces again but it does.

What is this problem likley to be? A bug on my computer, a bug on my server? My isp being retarded? No one else seems to have any problems accessing my site, I would guess it is a local issue. What I can not figure out though, is why it only happens to my own websites on my hosting account. This never happens when trying to view any other websites except my own(on my hosting account). This cannot be a coincidence. It is a big mystery to me.

Apache :: Localhost Doesn't Update When Change Directory Files

Jul 15, 2013

I'm new to Apache. I'm using a version 2.4 for Windows 7. It didn't come in as an .msi so I had to configure the appropriate web-server name via the httpd text document.

Each time I go to http://localhost, I am present with a page with the content "It works." I tried adding a different .html file into the directory to see if I could access that also, but I was not able to navigate to it via the address bar. So I edited the content of index.html from 'It works!' to "It works?!!!" but sadly, the actual page is still showing 'It works!' for its content (Rather ironic, huh?).

So, for whatever reason, the actual 'localhost' page isn't updating or even noticing any of my edits in what I presume to be the correct directory.

Here's my httpd document for referenc [URL] ....

Apache :: Prevent Access To Files

Mar 6, 2014

When a user enters the whole url to a file on the webserver he/she can view this file. I want to prevent this and only allow access to the files from within the application (under apache). How can I do that? I already tried:

<Directory /var/www/html/folder/files>
order deny,allow
allow from localhost
</Directory>

This works BUT the file also isn't viewable from within the application anymore.

Apache :: Access Files Without Login / Authentication

Nov 18, 2014

In web application we are facing high vulnerability issue based on the session validation.

We can download the files from the server whenever we are passing the link even without login. The links are directly hit into the server and download the files any type of files extension such as .txt, .xml, .zip and so on.

Need the solution for this issue: How will we resolve the issue using validate the session in apache side?

Scenario as below:

When user manually passing the request if user logged they should access the files
When user manually passing the request if user is not login they shouldn't access the files

Here both the scenarios they can access the files but we want to restrict when the request is coming to apache without login.

EX: [URL] ....

When i tried above link I can able to view the file in browser. Even able to download all different fies extension which are having in the under tomcat webapps dir.

How we can restrict this in apache code or any other files in apache side or is there any way to validate the request is logged one or not?.

Active Directory Home Folder

Jul 31, 2009

I am using Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition. I have installed Active directory and created users and their home folders. Everything works fine except a problem.

When a user from the domain uses the UNC to connect to the server, it shows the shared folder. The user can view and change all other users files, home directory etc. The user can browse all the folders.

I need it to be setup so that the user can only view his own home folder and files and not others. Also when using UNC to browse the server, I want an administrator authentication even if the user is from the same domain.

Here are my current permissions.

NTFS Root folder permission
=================================
Administrators - Full Control
CREATOR OWNER - Special Permission
System - Full Control
Domain Users - Read & Execute, List Contents, Read, Special Permissions.

Share permission of root folder
================================
Domain Users - Read

NTFS Permission for user home folders

Created User - Full Control
Administrators - Full Control
CREATOR OWNER - Special Permission
System - Full Control
Domain Users - Read & Execute, List Contents, Read, Special Permissions.

IIS: Access Denied

May 7, 2009

I am installing a .NET application on a client's server but they don't know much about IIS and neither do I.

I am having an access denied issue when browsing a recently installed website on a fresh .NET framework. The "%systemroot%Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files" folder appears to have the correct rights, I read that incorrect rights could be a reason for this issue. What else could it be ?
