Apache Error :: Could Not Reliably Determine The Server's Fully Qualified Domain Name, Using 127.0.0.1

Aug 1, 2008

Whenever I restart my apache on my VPS, it throws some wierd warnings:

Forcing reload of web server (apache2)...apache2: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for goebs
apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
waiting apache2: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for goebs
apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
.

where goebs is my VPS linux machine hostname.

I already have a domain setup with this VPS, and it works fine, just that I get this weird warning.

FULLY Managed Servers

Sep 26, 2009

I own a pretty high traffic soccer blog. Nothing out of the ordinary!

It generates an average of 8k unique visitors/day - but can reach 30+ unique/day.

According to the guy who is currently hosting it - it does around 30-50gb bandwidth per day.

I'm not sure if I even need a Dedicated server for this. However, the old host said that the HUGE peaks of traffic in the middle of the day are causing him problems.

I'm not very technical - just the writer of the blog - do a couple of other web developments aswell, but I've never really needed a dedicated server before!

Thus, I need this fully managed - and want it to basically work as a reseller hosting account (if thats possible).

I need this quickly as the website is going to be deleted by the end of THIS month! He just told me today . He was taking the revenue from the site in exchange for the hosting. I'd now like to just cough up and pay for it!

If anyone can give me any advise, do I need a dedicated server? Would a VPS do? What prices am I looking at? Are there any companies which suit my needs?

Apache :: Using External Webpage To Determine Rewrite Condition

Mar 11, 2015

I am looking for a way to put a rewrite condition into my configuration where I can poll an external web page and based on the http status code, allow the rewrite or not.

I am doing this in order to set a maintenance status on two different proxy servers, one is apache the other is a big-ip. I already have the maintenance pages and control setup on the big-ip, but I need a way to poll a url and pull a specific http status code served up by the big-ip.

Will My VPS Run Smoothly And Reliably

Mar 16, 2009

I have a question similar to this as well.

I plan to get a semi-dedicated account for reseller hosting purposes.

Specs:
Quad core Harpertown 2.5 GHz
100gb dedicated disk space
1gb dedicated DDR2 RAM
100Mbps Connection
1000gb dedicated bandwidth
(cPanel and fantastico included)

I was just wondering if a server like this would be able to handle 100 users, each being given a 1gb account with 10gb bandwidth.

Apache :: 2.2.22 Picks SSL For Every Single Domain Error

Jul 3, 2014

I have one valid commercial Comodo certificate. It is correctly installed and works fine on my 443 port when I go to https://www.domain1.com

However, I have quite a few other virtual hosts that also work fine on my port 80 when I go to http://www.domain2.com then http://www.domain3.com and so on.

Now out of curiosity I have typed https://www.domain2.com and it picked up the SSL certificate from my first domain1.com when it wasn't supposed to (I guess)! It reported an error but worked! Then I tried all my other domains 3,4,5 and so on and the issue repeated.

How do I keep this single certificate to the only domain name it belongs to? It has no wild cards and is valid for only one domain name I bought it for. The example of my hosts' configuration is below:

<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "/directory/home/place"
ServerName domain1.com
<Directory "/directory/home/place">
allow from all
Options +Indexes
</Directory>
ServerAlias www.doamin1.com
</VirtualHost>

Apache :: Configuration Error Causing Internal Server Error

Oct 10, 2012

- Apache version : 2.2.21
- operating system : MAC OS Lion Server
- mod_ssl : 2.2.21

I have a certain area on a homepage which is protected by an .htaccess file. The code of the .htaccess file is the following:

Code:

AuthType Digest
AuthName "Password Required"
Options +Indexes
# code for HTTPS
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond
%{SERVER_PORT} !^443$
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI}
Require valid-user

Usually everything has been working fine with this .htaccess-file until today. There hasn't been any change on the system.

If you click on the hyperlink to the restricted area the login window appears where you need to type in your username and a password. After typing in these data the following message appears in the browser:

500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or
misconfigruation and was unable to complete your request. (…)

The apache error log file contains the following message:

Request exceeded the limit of 10 sub request nesting levels due to probable configuration error.

Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary.
Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace.

The increase of the LimitInternalRecursion does not solve the problem. So I switched the LogLevel in the httpd.conf file from warn to debug and looked again on the entries of the error log.

The following appeared (I have replaced ip addresses, usernames and URL by xyz or <URL>) :

Code:

[error] [client xyz]
mod_digest_apple: Client is using a nonce not issued by this server for this context:/rb/Vorlesung/WS12/Downloads/, referer:
http:<URL>

Domain Name Servers

How would I go about setting up Bind on one of my Dedicated Servers? I noticed that you use three dns servers through pipedns and I thought you might be able to help me answer this question.

How would I be able to have my friends and I point our domains to my server(s) and have bind make it work? I want to have one dns server and then I have my friends each on there own DEDI using my bind dns servers but I'm not sure how to do this.

How would we add domains and the bind server know which server they are hosted on? Do you have to add the domains through bind? If so, how would I do that automatically and how would it work through cPanel when someone parks a domain?

2 Servers 1 Domain

May 5, 2008

I know reminds you of something else doesn't it? Seriously though, If I have 1 managed linux dedicated server (CentOS w/ cpanel v.11) and 1 managed windows dedicated server (Windows Server 2003 w/ Plesk 8) and want to the setup automatically through WHMCS under the same domain name (or appearance) how would I accomplish this task?

I know that I could simply add additional servers to the server configuration of 1 whmcs billing software installation. The problem is if I had to buy a separate domain for the other server and run them through 1 website it may appear shady to have the domain name change in the url during checkout.

I've seen few web hosts other both kinds of hosting through 1 website without redirecting to a different domain. If I have to have 2 different domains assigned to 2 different server boxes could I mask/cloak/I don't know the technical word for it so that the url appears as the same domain weather purchasing shared hosting for windows or linux?

Domain Name Servers

Nov 13, 2007

I recently had my registrar change the name servers of
[url]
to point to a new host. Its been a month since that change was made.

When I go to the website on my work computer, it seems to point to the new host during the day but in the evening around after 5PM for some reason it points to the old host. My registrar refuses to acknowledge a problem because they see the WHOIS information pointing to the correct name servers.

When it is pointing to the new host I can login to cpanel and webmail using the new hosts' credentials. When it is pointing to the old host I can only use the old login credentials for the old host.

So far this has only happened to me at work. Could it be something to do with my work ISP? When the domain is incorrectly pointing to the old host I can ask friends on other ISPs over instant messenger to check the domain and they are referred to the new web host.

Fully Managed Vps

May 31, 2007

i'm beginning my search for a fully managed vps host. I plan on sending an email to each of these hosts and asking questions but i want to inquire here to see if i've missed any prime candidates. I'm choosing VPS mainly because of the security of having your own server + flexibility to do custom stuff down the line if need be. And my site doesn't really need the resources of a dedicated machine.

My current host goes down all the time and has a really long support response. We've also been having lots of connection issues with the clients we have in china. While this may be unavoidable due to the great firewall of china, i think there's got to be a better setup. We'll see.

My website:
This is for a small business (10 or so people) and the website is only used internally for project management, email, and the like. The bandwidth + load are minimal but there is quite a bit of file storage. The main application being used is dot project (mysql + php).

Fully managed:
I just want the OS / basic installed applications (mysql, php, ftp, apache, cpanel, possibly dot project, etc) to be kept up-to-date for security reasons. I don't want to have to monitor each of these to see when a new bugfix comes out. If a service fails (like email) i'd like it to be looked into. I can handle the user management / coding / etc. I don't expect security audits of my website or anything. Yes, i will be asking each host if they will do these items as i understand "fully managed" means a lot of different things to different people.

Requirements:
5+GB space, 5GB Bandwidth (overkill), php, mysql, cpanel would be nice, dot project

Price:
hopefully under $60/month

Here's the hosts that i'm going to look into, please let me know if i've left someone out. Yes, i'll be searching the board for reviews of these hosts as well.

liquidweb.com
rackspace.com
knownhost.com
servint.net
myriadnetwork.com
zone.net
primaryvps.com
rosehosting.com
prohosters.com

Managing Two Servers In One Domain

May 28, 2009

I'm trying to set up a new site on a new server, primarily informational, while maintaining the old order-taking and database functionality of the existing one. This new one is an Ubuntu vm with samba and apache all set, but the old one is running Tomcat and basically takes java programming to update. How can I properly route incoming requests to the proper server, pass back and forth login information (which resides on the old server), etc? I'm a relative newbie to all this, so the solution might be blindingly obvious, but it's a bit daunting to get them working in tandem.

Same Domain And Nameservers, Two Servers

Aug 2, 2009

I have two VPS packages.

Both are running exactly the same stuff - Centos 5.3, cPanel/WHM, etc
One domain (example.com), already pointing to first server (server1)
Nameservers (ns1 & ns2.example.com) are set up in WHM of server1.

I then bought a second VPS (server2). I want to be able to set up subdomains of my main domain (sub.example.com) on the second VPS. I also want my existing nameservers to work for server2.

This way, I can provide subdomain packages to people and utilise both servers, and I can also provide the same nameservers to people regardless of the server they are on.

I went to the clustering section of the WHM's, I enabled, and I can see server1 in the WHM of server2, and the other way around. I selected Sync Changes under DNS Role. However I don't think that's really done anything.

How can I get this to work? Sorry if I've written it in a confusing manner.

One Domain On Multiple Servers

Feb 5, 2008

I run a vbulletin based web forum ([url] and everything is going quite smoothly. We are currently in the process of getting a partnership with a supplement store.

Basically, our goal is to have our own store for Lean Bulk, but it will be run by a different company, and will be on their server.

Soo, the store database and custom script will be staying on their server, but my forums will be staying on my server. What I want is for the store to be located at [url]or [url]

Either one works for me. However, the tech guy that runs all the stuff for the store, is trying to tell me that this is "impossible." While it might be somewhat difficult, I have a hard time believing anything is really impossible.

The tech says the only thing we can do is have the store located at:

[url]

Personally, I think this looks unprofessional, and would rather stay away from this solution.
