I've been looking for a host for a few hours now and would like to get some opinions on what people think of the following companies or what other companies I should be looking at.
altushost
godaddy
1and1
hostgator
these 4 all allow "pornographic" material
requirements:
500mb-2gb space
20-100gb monthly bandwidth (option to scale this would be best)
php 4 or 5
sql (2 databases)
ftp
ssh (not required, but would like it)
5-10 a month, payable yearly
I want to ask about some tips to prevent my blog from hacker attack. My friends experience this and i dont want this happen to me. Is web hosting technical support can fix my host server if hacker break it out?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAs far as hosts, ive been through hostgator which sucked.. not for the hostings in the fact i barely had any downtime, but for the outa nowhere ban/support they have. So i left that.. If they had better support id stick with them.
Moved on to nakedhosting... that site gets fustrating because every early morning their servers slow/stop for about 4 or 5 hours then back to normal.. their support sucks! Only tech support is ever online for live chat and ive only received a reply once from their ticket system outa the 4 times i tried getting support. Honestly i think theirs about 4 or 5 people running that site because i pretty much talk to the same guy on live chat everytime.. on top of that, everyones gone after 8pm+.. really, you wont get live chat or ticket support.. which further leads me to believe they have a small room of servers which 4 or 5 people run. Probably a family business who knows.. Dont pay attention to their 99% up time, most flat out lie.. but if your record your down times you do get a discount if you convince them its their fault..
anyway im looking for a reliable VPS host that does have decent support and uptime. Im not one to make alot of mistakes that need support, at most maybe 1 or 2 every couple months but most of the time i dont.. i just want a host that will be their when i do have one.
Price isnt an issue. Also it would be great if i could pay with paypal. Not a needed but would help start me off since i have to wait 3-4 days till it hits my account.
looking for a a quality webhost where users can post adult content. Know any?

our site is having problems since a week or so our forum is down, our emails are all down
we have 10 staff using different aliases on the same email domain our hosting provider is bluefishhosting.com we have been unable to reach them since the last week we have contacted the company that bluefish buys their reselling account from, but they also tell us to wait another 7 days our office cannot bear this down time of 14 days
IS THERE ANY OTHER FASTER SOLUTION?
there was a site that showed the host company if you searched by domain. unfortunately I didn't bookmark it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if all hosts can pretty much handle streaming mp3 and video, or if there are certain things I should consider when looking for a host? I dont have a big budget or anything, so I guess a shared server package is what I would have to go with.
I am an independent musician with my own (very) small record label.
Do you host your hosting company's sites at your competitor's company/servers?
Eg. You sell VPS, your company site is hosted at another VPS provider..
Does anyone know anyway that "rm -rf /" can be disabled? OR any selinux rule or something to prevent this?
Or if I wanted to prevent a certain directory from being deleted like backups but something unlike chattr that someone can figure out quickly.
Im sure LOTS of people would like to know about this. Ive searched around and only somewhat useful thing I have found is an rm wrapper that sends everything to a trash file in the root of the mount point.
I have a file named dos-1.2.13.4 (i changed the IP address in purpose) inside the log and inside the file there is a 4 digit number that is constantly changing. more

View 12 Replies View RelatedIs there anything that takes the concept of a CDN (localised content delivery), but applies it to dynamic stuff like PHP and databases, syncing across worldwide servers as necessary? It'd be nice to deliver the entire site in a localised manner.
I'd imagine Google does something like this for their own sites, and maybe other large companies too — but I have no idea if such a technology exists in the consumer space.
I can see it being a logistical nightmare having to keep all versions of the database in sync, so it wouldn't surprise me if nothing like this exists.
i have two domain names:
domain.net and domain.com
I want to transfer the FTP content of domain.com to domain.net without havin to do it manually, (transfering data to my PC via FTP and resending it again)
Is that possible in WHM? and How?
Will it work with "Restore a Full Backup/cpmove file"?
My company provides various reports and dynamic website content to clients whose websites we design and host as well as to clients who have their sites designed and hosted elsewhere. We do not want people to be able to easily link to our content or bring it up in an iframe or whatever unless they are a paid subscriber. We would like to be able to limit the content to the domains of paying clients and keep it from displaying elsewhere. Note also that out of several reports, publications and content we offer, clients can mix and match, subscribe to just one element or all of them (The subscription levels are managed by us on the back end.)
Currently we have a system that is built in Perl/Postgres SQL and it is problematic(constantly failing and not very secure) Also it requires that the content be loaded into an iframe on the client's site or linked directly. We would like a solution that is PHP-based and can talk to our existing database. We would also like to be able to display the content on the page without an iframe so it is more search engine friendly, etc.
An off-the-shelf solution would be preferable if one is available - and we like to support the open source community.
I am aware that modern-day browsers support decoding GZIP-encoded content, such as a GZIP-encoded JavaScript file.
Apache supports delivering content like so, however, the server-side must generate the file, then compress, and then deliver.
So I was wondering, is it possible to GZIP the files ahead of time and then allow Apache to deliver them in their compressed state.
I am planning to do this only for static content (images, css and javascript).
I know, it could depend on the company, where you have your vps. So it is a general question. Do I have to take care, which content I put on the machine, assuming that it is _not_ illegal, at least in the European Union? So I do not mean illegal mp3 or warez.
But what about erotic things. For sure, I do _not_ mean hardcore-pornography, but I think of erotic paintings, which you can see in Europe at prime time on tv and these paintings got prizes already, while in other parts of the world, it would be banned.
So do I have to check this exactly before a sign-up?
any problem to delete /tmp content?

I am giving few tips on securing your server against hack attempts. You must check these inspite of other securities like firewall, rootkits detectors etc.
1. Most Important, do not disable safe_mode under php.ini. If any customer asks to disable it, turn it off on his account only, not on whole server.
As most of the time attack is done using shellc99 (phpshell) script. In case safe_mode is off on server and there are public dirs with 777 permission, he can easily hack through.
2. Compile apache with safe mode as well.
3. In cpanel under tweek settings, turn on base_dir, if someone requests to turn off, turn it off on his/her account only. As using phpshell one can easily move to main server dirs like /etc, /home.
4. Do not allow Anonymous Ftp on your server. You can turn it off from ftp config under WHM Service Configuration. If its allowed, one can easily bind port using nc tool with your server and gain root access. Always keep it disabled.
5. Make sure /tmp is secured. You can easily do that by running this command /scripts/securetmp using ssh. But do make sure, /tmp is secured. Else one can upload some kind of perl script in /tmp dir and can deface or damage all data on the few/all accounts on your server.

Does anyone know how to prevent some shell, php script change file name from file.php to file.jpg or file.gif and upload to server and run it to attack server?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have been using our L2 switches functionality to only allow IPs that are assigned to a particular server to be accessed for sometime. However, the latest version of this particular switch no longer includes this feature. Moreoever, it is quite a labor intensive task which is not good for "budget" servers.
I am considering moving the rules to the main router, but am afraid of the scalability of this. Will it hold up with a few 1000 servers?
How are other hosties going about this? I have heard that some just don't bother at all, which leaves their clients open to having their IPs duplicated by others on the same subnet. This can't be good....
If I want to use GoDaddy as my host for a website with adult content on it i.e. porn, would it violate any agreements or TOS? If so, what if I bought a dedicated server?
View 10 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a good web host that allows adult content? No porn or anything hardcore, basically it's just half-nude/topless/erotic posing pictures.
I will definitely need a web host that allows a lot of bandwidth, I'm actually doing this for someone who just got in the cover of Penthouse. So.. I'm sure there will be a lot of traffic.
Something less then US$ 150 for the start and an option to move to a full blown (4 Cores, 4GB) dedicated server later would be optimal.
Requirements:
1000 GB Transfer
10 GB Disk
1024 GB Memory
Plesk Panel
There will also be download links to copyright protected material but this are only links, there is no copyright infringement on the server itself which is absolutely legal at least in Europe.
I have been looking for adult hosting services. Of the businesses I have found that do allow adult hosting, I have seen one stipulation. "Legal adult content". I'm not quite sure on what this means. Does it pertain to the obvious, like no child porn, bestiality, etc. Or is there legalities to the access of the adult content? Though I live in the US, I was not raised nor educated here, and thus not aware of the details here.
All I wish to host is a general content forum where my members can have a section to post 18+ pornography such as you would see in any regular adult video store. I plan to have this in an invite only section of the forum as to keep the content inaccessible to under 18 year olds. I believe this should be within the requirements of legal adult content.
Anyone who knows the details of the term "Legal adult content", could you please clear this up for me?
Does anyone know? I can't find the words 'sex', 'porn' or 'adult' anywhere in their knowledgebase, so I'm not too sure!
