Any Recommendations For Ffmpeg Adult Web Hosting
Feb 12, 2009
I am planing on running I guess you would call it a semi tube script. It pulls videos from others sites and thumbs them at your own site in categories. The viewers however do view the videos at my site in a popup video player or another page.
Hostgator looks like a good host however I just talked to them and they don't have ffmpeg....

I wanted to build an Adult Video Sharing and i don't know what hosting to buy some say that VPS some says Shared Hosting
Here is my Plan
1. i will not upload videos from my site i'm just planning to embed videos from others site like redtube, youporn etc. so that i will minimize my bandwidth from my site.
2. i want to create many site like 5 site with my 1 hosting plan
3. my budget is $10/mo below because i will just start from this business so i don't have a high budget for this business.
my question is that.
1. embedding videos from other site will not eat the bandwidth of my site right? (just to make sure)
2. is ffmpeg really needed if i will just embed videos from other site?
3. what plan will i choose VPS some says Shared Hosting?
4. can you help me find or do you own a business like what i planning to do. and can share it to me to buy from your web hosting site. [note they must be allowing Adult Content or Adult Video Sharing]

I am currently running the script vshare (youtube clone) on APThost shared. I really need to upgrade. I opened the site on the 28th of May and already using 13gb of space and 26gb of bandwidth in just a few days. I am looking for either a dedicated or VPS host that can at least provide:
- 100gb of space
- 150gb of bandwidth (maybe more?)
- ffmpeg
US based as they are cheaper.
I don't really have a lot to spend, as this was meant to start as a fun site but it is growing rapidly.
I have no idea on how a dedicated or vps server works like is it the same as a shared server?

For the past 3 weeks I have been trying to set up a joomla web site.
At first, I tried to host a joomla website on liquid web's shared host.
They seemed to be quite good. They had all the feature I needed, but then I couldn't upload files into my webspace via ftp.
They told me they don't know what is the problem, and that I should use what is available.
I have stopped hosting at liquid web, and tried a different web host.
HostNexus.
There I had the same problem with myu ftp account, but they told me the problem is either in my firewall or ISP.
This really allowed me to look into a solution for this problem, and I partially solved it.
I believe this was the same problem I had with liquid web, but liquid web support didn't tell me the information that helped me to solve this problem.
Though my problems are not solved yet.
I need to create a ftp account into the httpdocs or public html folder so joomla could use it to update its own files.
I was able to create such ftp accounts in liquid web, but it is possible that I am unable to create such ftp account via the hostnexus control panel, and I have asked them if its possible for them to create me such an account.(Asked them topday, so I didn't get a reply yet).
Now, what should I do?
I need a ftp account in order for joomla to work properly.
Should I go back to liquid web?
Should I look for a different web host?
Maybe HostNexus will solve my problem, and all this will be irelavent.
But assuming host nexus won't solve my problem, what should I do?

My boss has recently asked me to source a new host for our servers. At the moment we're running 8 Windows boxes but are unhappy with the service we're receiving from our hosting company. We are looking for a managed hosting company, that has offices in the UK and US to look after the servers.
At the moment we haven't nailed down our exact requirements so I'm just really looking for any recommendations you guys might have. I've done a wee bit of Googling and have found a company called Rackspace but I'm ideally looking to contact around 5 companies to see who can offer us the best deal.

I have accounts on site5 and hostgator (shared plan, not dedicated) and was trying setup knowledgetree a open source document management portal built on Linux/PHP/Apache/MySQL platform.
Everything worked fine except the indexing component as that required Java/JRE. Indexing is very important to me.
So all my hard work for the last 2 days came to a screeching halt.
I badly need to find a hosting service that offers LAMP + Java technologies for a decent price.

A friend of mine basically just wants to get his business on the web. He wants a website that is entirely informational (e.g. no commerce or anything like that). Basically a home page with a couple of links to download some documents and some contact info.
He does not have a domain name, so he would need that.
And the person wants an easy to use website designer for this simple site.
My initial thoughts were:
Microsoft Office Live - but that doesn't seem to be totally free anymore.
Wordpress.com (I am not sure this would work as well especially if you wanted to post documents or something)

Anybody know if this is okay to run on a regular shared enviroment? Should we dedicate an entire server for this or what?
Does ffmpeg streaming often cause large server load or is the effect just on bandwidth?

I have never worked with an adult oriented website before, so I really don't know a whole lot about the arena. I might be making a web site for an exotic dancer that may contain explicit photographs (no sex, topless images probably). This is more of a homepage, not a pay for membership adult site.
Anyways, whenever I have signed on with a host in the past they all seem to have the uniform user agreement that states no pornography, warez, etc. Would this type of thing be considered a pornographic web site? If so, are there any hosts that provide affordable shared web hosting that allow this, or would I be forced to get a dedicated server or something?
Just trying to get a feel for how much of a pain in the butt this could end up being, I might decide not to do it if this will require some expensive specialty hosting. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm after some hosting for some adult content (nothing too bad!) as my current host won't allow it (no big loss, they're atrocious anyway)
Preferably something UK or US based, not too bothered either way as long as it's fairly reasonable in price and has a good service.
Not sure about bandwidth limits, to say the site is in it's early stages would be an understatement, but something flexible would be good.

Does anyone know of a decent adult hosting provider thats not going to give me any problems?
i've been with cirtex for 1 month and in that month i've had my account suspended due to high cpu usage.. and the sites mysql has been down due to disc space full cos they didnt clear the tmp folder.. all in the space of one month..
My site gets currently 4,000 uniques per day with around 13,000 page views..
its a tube site however the videos are embedded from another site so bandwidth is relativly low at around 4gb/dayso if anyone else runs a similar site i'd like to know who you host with and if you get many problems.

I'd like to get your recommendations on how I should approach this problem. I posted this in another part of the forum, but I feel that this is a more appropriate place for it.
Problem:
How to handle large amounts of traffic with for a social network website? If a user uploads a photo or video, how does it become accessible on all of the server? If traffic is expected to be about 500,000 visitors a day, how many machines do you think I should use?
Possible Solution:
I've come up with the following possible infrastructure.
One load balancer. The load balancer has 3 PHP/Apache servers behind it. Behind each of the PHP/Apache servers is a (slave) MySQL server, from which data is read. Behind the slave MySQL servers, there is 1 master MySQL server, which handles all of the database writes. The master MySQL and slave MySQL servers are synced up, so data is up to date.
The actual photo and video files are not stored in the database, only the links to them is stored in the database (to keep the database small). The photo and video reside in a central location (like a SAN or NAS), which is accessible by all of the 3 PHP/Apache webservers.
Questions:
1. How many machines do you think will be able to handle photo and video uploads for 500,000 visitors a day?
2. Is having a SAN with Terabytes of RAIDED disk space an available option?
3. If a SAN or NAS is not an option, does anyone have any ideas on how to make sure all of the web servers have access to the same photos and videos? Is rsync a viable solution?
4. Which hosting provider do you think I should go with?
5. Is clustering what I need? What is clustering and how will it address my concerns?

I have been building a business around blogs and other social media items on mostly OSS technology - but unfortunately, my current reseller account is inadequate for what I need (especially with sites that query a DB) and unable unfortunately to upgrade to what I might need. I don't want to rip on them because they've provided me great service, but they're just not able to ramp up. My thought is there won't be any reseller to meet my needs after learning more info, so I'm going to make the leap up.
I'm not going to go pound the pavement for hosting business; this is only really for my clients I serve as a agency/consultant/designer and my clients need and deserve more.
I have been considering Mosso; but also weighing a dedicated box as it's around the same price and looking around here for the solutions people recommend for the past few hours. But since I sort of have a specialty application, I thought I'd ask for your recommendations.
I want to say that I came here from another forum because my provider was affected by the Planet outage and the conversation and knowledge was great; you are a very smart community. I hadn't heard of this place beforehand but am glad I found it.

I have started building a site that allows registered users to upload video clips.
Until now I have always used shared hosting, but my host says I need a dedicated server with ffmpeg installed to allow video uploads.
(This annoyed me because when I asked about this shortly after buying a year's worth of shared hosting they told me I only needed to pay $75 and it would be sorted).
Anyway, I can't justify the cost of a dedicated server, so I need to learn a bit about shared hosting with ffmeg installed.
Is it worth it? Can shared servers cope with bandwidth demands? Are there any reputable and reliable hosts offering it?

escortName.someDomain.domainSuffix
Also, need CGI, PHP, MySQL, good amount of web space & bandwidth as she may want a video or two -- besides gallery images -- to be put up, etc.

I had a few specific questions about ADULT hosting. I've been refining an idea I had for an adult website after getting some good feedback from this site, but I had a few specific questions I still need addressed. If you think this forum is the wrong place to be asking about this, do you happen to know of any other forums that specialize in discussing adult web hosting?
My general plan is to set up a video-based adult site that charges people money (a monthly fee) to see the premium content. I have a general idea about my start-up investments, but not necessary how much each would cost, and I'm trying to put together a budget. If anyone could help me fill in some of these blanks I would really appreciate it!!
I'll need a lawyer to set up site disclaimers, contracts, etc. - I assume this will be a few hundred dollars - does this sound correct?
I need to build the site- this is where I'm not sure about costs. The general specifications are like any other adult website - users pay to register - so I would go with one of the established companies that deals with secure online credit card transactions - any ideas which ones are good? How much do they normally take?
Users then can watch the videos, rate and give feedback. Since I don't really know any programming besides HTML, I'm assuming I need to hire someone to build the site and make sure it is secure. I'm also assuming this will be the most expensive part of the investment. Can someone give me some estimates about this? Are there general templates online that I can use that will save money? Is guru.com a trusted place to hire programmers? Is this something I could do myself without spending years learning a new programming language? How DO I make the site secure, and how can I keep people from stealing my premium content and posting it on other sites? I'm obviously trying to make this as cheap as possible without sacrificing all the quality - but unfortunately I have thousands to invest and not tens of thousands (i don't know if this will be a problem or not).
Also - hosting. I was told that a popular adult video site will cost a fortune in bandwidth. If I'm charging a monthly membership fee I'm hoping that can offset the costs. Can someone recommend good, scalable adult video hosting - and give me a general idea about what kind of server I need, how much bandwidth etc. I figure since this is membership driven I can start small and then increase bandwidth depending on how many members join, so I'm always making a profit. Does that sound realistic?
Finally, can adult pay sites still make money today? Not just a couple bucks here and there, but enough so I can eventually quit my day job?
The wonderful feedback I got here before helped me to reshape my ideas, and now I'd like to begin the next steps. Thank you all very much again for ANY help you can give me - I sincerely appreciate all the generous, knowledgeable people that make this forum a pleasure to visit!
