Looking For A Ffmpeg Enabled Host, Recommendations Please
Jun 1, 2008
I am currently running the script vshare (youtube clone) on APThost shared. I really need to upgrade. I opened the site on the 28th of May and already using 13gb of space and 26gb of bandwidth in just a few days. I am looking for either a dedicated or VPS host that can at least provide:
- 100gb of space
- 150gb of bandwidth (maybe more?)
- ffmpeg
US based as they are cheaper.
I don't really have a lot to spend, as this was meant to start as a fun site but it is growing rapidly.
I have no idea on how a dedicated or vps server works like is it the same as a shared server?

If FFmpeg Enabled on shared hosting, does it mean that I can use it on other kinds of hosting services of the company that provides this services?
The company I'm talking about is apthost.com.
Sorry if my questions seems not very wise but I'd like to clear up the situation in this way.
That's important for me to know.

I am planing on running I guess you would call it a semi tube script. It pulls videos from others sites and thumbs them at your own site in categories. The viewers however do view the videos at my site in a popup video player or another page.
Hostgator looks like a good host however I just talked to them and they don't have ffmpeg....

Can anyone recommend me some good hosts located in the UK?
This would need to handle 2 sites for now, lots of ajax requests so a fast response is priority over diskspace. neither site gets barely any traffic now, but i haven't started promotion yet. One is a photo gallery other a store with few products.
linux/plesk with centOS preferred with something close to full management.

I'm looking for a good ASP.NET Windows shared host. Here is my current experience thus far:
- WebStrikeSolutions - Excellent web host but doesn't offer MSSQL as part of base package.
- WebSecureStores - Excellent host that does offer MSSQL as part of base package but hasn't updated their website in over a year and hasn't released support for .NET 3.5.
- DiscountASP.NET - Excellent web host, CP is a little wimpy, doesn't offer MSSQL as part of base package.
For me, the essential features are:
- Reliable, reasonable performance (especially uptime).
- Includes MSSQL databases (limited number, but at least 3-5).
- Can handle CMS sites like DotNetNuke without significant slowness.

I'm looking to move from Infrenion.com. The Infrenion VPS has been really great as far as speed and performance. However, Infrenion leaves the number of max diskinodes to 200,000. I've tried fighting with them to get it increased to where it should be (for a 20GB partition), 2 million nodes. I run a social networking site that uses Smarty templates and requires as much nodes as possible.
So, I'm looking for a VPS that has FFMPEG pre-installed, speed, 15 to 20GB of space, and is under $50/month.
Infrenion, if you're reading this, please reconsider your configurations of your servers.

I've been using SiteGround for about two years now and want to upgrade. Here is what SiteGround offers: siteground.com/hosting_features.htm
I would prefer a shared server that meets the following requirements, but if this isn't possible, directing me to a site with dedicated servers would be great.
- Must have PHP/MySQL support with at least a few MySQL databases
- Must support ffmpeg, flvtool2, and mencoder (I want to add a videos section on my site using a script that requires those)
- I'd really really like ASP support along with PHP support, but the above requirements are more important to me
And I'd like it to be about even or better than my current hosting, overall. Good customer support, very low downtime, etc.

I have dedicated server running CentOS 5.2 with the latest release of cPanel.
Every night /scripts/upcp runs and I get e-mail. I am worried about this part:
Checking /dev/sda....S.M.A.R.T does not appear to be enabled for this device.
Checking /dev/sdb....S.M.A.R.T does not appear to be enabled for this device.
How do I enable S.M.A.R.T. (should I?) permanently?

SNMP enabled thermometer, hopefully one capable of reading both inside and outside temperatures. A fair bit of Googling only turned up the Poseidon 1140, which apparently is not available in the US. I figured that someone here has to be using something like this in their DC.

/etc/init.d/iptables status
Table: mangle
Table: filter
Table: nat
/sbin/iptables -v -I INPUT -s 1.1.1.1 -j DROP
no "response"
.. this means the iptables are simply empty I guess!
CSF is enabled and working, at least it's sending me mails that it's blocking IP's or if CPU load is too high.
/etc/init.d/iptables status is working but not saving anything
My current iptables:

It there any good way to stop using from reading /etc/passwd?
I have suPHP enabled and open_basedir enabled by WHM too. But it seems susphp ignores open_basedir restrictions?
Here is virtual host config:
<VirtualHost x.x.x.x:80>
<IfModule concurrent_php.c>
php4_admin_value open_basedir "/home/xxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/lib/p$
php5_admin_value open_basedir "/home/xxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp"
</IfModule>
<IfModule !concurrent_php.c>
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
php_admin_value open_basedir "/home/xxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/li$
</IfModule>
<IfModule mod_php5.c>
php_admin_value open_basedir "/home/xxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp"
</IfModule>
<IfModule sapi_apache2.c>
php_admin_value open_basedir "/home/xxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/li$
</IfModule>
</IfModule>

## User xxx # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf
<IfModule mod_suphp.c>

</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c>

</IfModule>

# To customize this VirtualHost use an include file at the following location
# Include "/usr/local/apache/conf/userdata/std/2/xxx/xxx.com/*.conf"
</VirtualHost>
Scripts are running with user's UID, and that is fine, but it can still read /etc/passwd file for example.
How to fix that? Is it really open_basedir value is ignored by susphp? It works fine if I remove suphp and run scripts with nobody uid.

when trying to add several useraccounts to our mail domain using the cli, we have a problem enabling the antivirus. We add user with the following CLI command, the antivirus flag is set. /usr/local/psa/bin/mail --create mail@mail.box -mailbox true -antivirus inout -passwd yourpassword -cp-access true
But when we got to the web interface and select the newly created user, the antivirus is still disabled for him and has to be enabled manually. Is this a known problem? Or is there any other way to automatically enable antivirus than using the "-antivirus" flag? Because we 're talking about more than 100 users it would take a lot of time enabling the AV manually for each of them.We 're running 12.0.18 Update Nr. 29

Currently I have a websites thats pretty new, about a month or too. Anyway, the site has a forum which is the area most used, and it's quickly growing. The topic of the site is automotive.
Basically I'm looking for decent ram, about 15gb of storage (forum db, pictures, and an occasional video), and 100gb+ of bandwidth. Once things really pick up, I'll just go out and get another server for this site, at the month however I want to stick to a VPS.
So who do you guys recommend? Please don't recommend primaryVPS, as I've been with them for less then a month and my experience has been less then pleasant.

i run a forum and wiki with an average of 20-30 users 24/7, and up to 60ish at peak hours.
currently, it uses <100gb transfer per month, but it could grow.
i'm looking for a us vps that can run this quickly and smoothly, while staying under 30 usd per month.
users are mostly from the us, although there's a large percentage of eu, asia, and australian users as well.
doesn't matter if it has a control panel or not, as long as it's got lamp and shell access.
what specifications and hosts would you recommend?
