On jaguarpc.com, their terms of service state,
"We do not allow programs to run continually in the background. This is to minimize system resources used and operational maintenance needed. We do not allow any chat or topsite programs on our servers other than the ones we pre-install for our clients to use. IRC: We currently DO NOT allow IRC or IRC bots to be operated on our network."
I thought the whole point of using a VPS was so you could run a continuous application (like a chat/game/etc server)? Why are so many VPS services against IRC (the chat server I use is not IRC based, but I just think its wierd so many prohibit IRC)

I'm running a script called hlstatsx which is a ranking system for game servers and it needs to be run 24/7
I use ssh to start it with this command:
perl hlstats.pl
However, I have to keep the ssh window open otherwise the script will stop. Is there a way to keep it running in the background even after I close the ssh window or logout?

So ive installed a bit torrent client on a server for a corporate client to server an internal application they use.
When I run the following code, it starts to seed it fine, however as soon as I close the ssh session which started the seed, it stops seeding.
Ive tried adding an & to the end of the command, however the same thing happens.
Anyone got any ideas how I can get the following line to start as soon as the server boots, and keep running 24/7?
The command is;
btdownloadheadless.py --url [url]

I am attempting to setup a script which will automatically append the proper file permissions [posix & acl's] to any new files on certain folders that I specify.
Someone Recommended
find /Users/Kevin/Desktop/TRANSFER -type f -exec chmod 777 {} ;
This only seems to run once and when new files put in I have to have the script run every so often as a cronjob, I really just want to have a script to change the permissions of files going into a folder.

I have small issue with load speed of pages when number of apache running processes goes over +-310, during peak traffic of day. IE: They load really slow.
Here's pic of what I mean:
=> [url]
Only thing that fixes it temporarily (at least until peak traffic ends) is to stop either httpd or mysql for several seconds, as everything cools down, then start it back up. Stop/starting mysql usually has longer terms temporary fix.
Anyway, would you have any ideas on what to configure or change within the system in order to keep the processes under 300?
The load is normal. Even at load 40, pages are blistering fast, as long as processes are under 300. So it's got nothing to do with load.

I'm not sure I understand the server-status page enough to know if this is a problem or not, but I have several processes that seem to run forever, or until I restart Apache. e.g.
Code:
13-1 21045 0/697/4264 W 59.45 19641 0 0.0 43.28 274.97 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/2005/01/ HTTP/1.1
19-1 408 1/834/1831 C 83.52 32463 0 14.8 149.66 263.48 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/ HTTP/1.1
30-1 14416 0/430/431 W 35.19 13347 0 0.0 37.42 37.44 66.249.66.133 www.example.com GET /wp/category/issues/ HTTP/1.1
They are almost always on a single domain (there's about 100 on the server) that's a Wordpress site. These processes are also almost always a search engine.
On the rare case I see them running on other domains on the same server they're always on Wordpress sites.
The longer the processes run, the more processor/memory they use, the more they slow the server down.
It seems to have just started in the past few weeks, I've had the site there for a couple years.

We found an issue after running plesk mchk command to restore all the mail server settings with SpamAssiassin settings enabled for all email accounts on the Plesk Server.
After running the mchk command, we found many warning messages in the psa maillog as following "authpsa : No such user [Email account] in mail authorization database".
We checked the mysql database for records on the Email Account that the error is referring to but found that the Domain Email Database was deleted (email address, password, email data). Is this something normal that the plesk mchk command does? Plesk 12.0.18 Update #37

I just ordered a server which has that setup:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core
8MB RAM
2x750GB RAID 1 HD
Now I wanna run it with DirectAdmin, but obviously DirectAdmin doesn´t support the Debian 64 which is installed but only 32 bit Debian.
Now I wonder wether I could setup a Debian 32 as well on that system and if yes, wether it would give me a deficit in Performance?
Or would you rather go with CentOS 64 which Directadmin supports?

For one of my new websites, I need to have the ability to record a video. The basic idea will be that a COD4 player uploads a demo file, which isn't a video file at all. Just a file with actions in the game which the engine then represents. So the user uploads the demo file, and then this is transferred to a server, where the game loads up and then records the demo. Does anyone know any software which has a API of some sort which I can use to control how long to record.
Maybe a hardware screen recorder would be better suited, but which provider would offer this?
Should I be running linux or windows? Windows has more games written for it so I was thinking that but I'm honestly not sure.

I have a CentOS system (under VPS, virtuozzo) and I would like to run a background job.
Here what I did:
1. ssh into the server
2. execute:
$ ./myscript.php > output.log &
After executing that command, I got back to the shell prompt.
Then I can see the log file:
$ tail -f output.log
But when I close my ssh session (using putty), the background job is also closed!
Anyone know why?
How can I run background job, leave it running, and quit my ssh session?

I have a server that crash at random time intervals. Mostly it crashes in between 7 days. The console is just chowing a blank screen.
The specs of the system are:
Linux Distro: CentOS 4.5, kernel 2.6.9-55.0.6.ELsmp (tried multiple kernels).
Control Panel: cPanel 11.x
Hardware Info:Tyan server barebone - GT20 B5350G20S4H
dual processor intel xeon
4 GB Reg. DDR RAM
4 x 250 GB Western Digital WD2500JS-00 Hard Disks
ARECA-1110 4xSATAII PCI-X Raid controller.
I tried everything on the software part. Update the kernel, keep system software up to date. Nothing workerd.
The load is just normal and memory usage is only 1GB out of 4GB.
There are no entries in the log files witch are pointing to an error.
Everything is leading to an hardware issue. I suspect the raid controller or memory. The power supply is not an problem I think because the server consumes still power when it has a blank screen.

I wished i had run it in screen now! If i close my SSH session the install will stop half way through which will not be good.
Is there anyway to pause the current process, and restart it in a screen session?

I am unable to set the background for the users on a terminal server.
The server is running Windows server 2003 R2 64 bit Enterprise edition.
I have setup the background path correctly in the group policy for the ou where the users are located. However the background does not load. I have also enabled Active Desktop in the terminal services configuration manager.
Also when I try to set the background manually as the administrator, everything is grey and I am unable to set the background. I have tried to start the Themes service but this does not resvolve the problem. Do anybody here have a suggestion on why I am unable to set the background even on the administrator user manually? (the administrator user does not have any group policies activated).

So, let me start off by saying I am completely new to website and FTP server hosting. I've hosted game servers in the past so I know about port forwarding and the like but this is obviously a step-up. I've managed to get a fully-functioning FTP server that works great on the domain I'm using but the website using Apache just gives people a blank white screen (as stated in the description). I'm using port 55567 for the website as I don't know want to use 80 because of security risks and what not. The domain being used is delawaretexasrepository.t28.net. Below are the error.log, httpd.conf and httpd-vhosts.conf.

After a few minutes or after specific actions Plesk shows the login screen without obvious reason. For example when I am trying to modify a file online and try to save it for the second time it always shows the login screen.
Also, when I enter the credentials I can see that the previous session(s) remain open. I have configured the session idle time to 1000 minutes, although I do not remain idle for 300 min anyway.

I am trying to access my server remotely using Windows' Remote Desktop Connection. It functions perfectly, but it does not go full screen because my local screen res is 1680x1050 ...
Does anyone know any other remote desktop applications which work better in this way?
I know I could just change the local res settings but it is a bit of a nuisance and looks really weird if I set it to something non-wide-screen...
